View Full Version : The Patty Duke Show has been brought to you by..... peyton6469 07-20-2011, 01:29 AM Breck Hair Products, Sterling Drug(Bayer), Noxell Corporation(makers of Cover Girl Cosmetics and Noxema Face Cream), General Mills and NAtional BIScuit COmpany. TV Knowledge Fan 07-20-2011, 03:37 AM ...was the series' primary sponsor on ABC. And, as such, Patty (and "Cathy") usually appeared in an "integrated" commercial for Breck shampoo and their other hair care products at the end of the episodes sponsored by them. The other sponsors were often "participating advertisers", buying one minute commercial spots here and there (no "integrated" ads were done for those advertisers). Today, Breck shampoo is marketed by Greenbrier International, the parent company of "Dollar Tree", where you can find them exclusively in their stores. :tv: peyton6469 07-21-2011, 09:34 PM thanks..any more information on sponsors will gratefully appreciated:) missy's pop pop 12-04-2013, 12:47 AM In its first two years, Breck and General Mills (Cheerios) were alternate sponsors, but Breck always had the integrated spot at the end of each of their shows. To this day I can recall the taglines for their major products: "Breck Shampoo...for dry, normal or oily hair" and "Breck Hair Set Mist...so fine your hair won't know it, but your hairdo will." In the third season, if I recall correctly, most if not all the other sponsors referred to in TV Knowledge Fan's earlier post were participating sponsors, but Nabisco and Bayer Aspirin often made the tagline in opens and closes. And lest we forget, the most unusual product placement promo ever seen in a sitcom credit always appeared at the very end of each episode: "hair preparations provided by BRECK" peyton6469 12-04-2013, 10:19 PM I did my research and you are correct Missy!..General Mills was a sponsor..You are worthy! If you know more, please don't hesitate to share..Looking forward to more of your updates..Thanks Missy:) bliss 12-05-2013, 09:55 PM The irony of BRECK sponsoring the show when Patty & Cathy wore synthetic wigs peyton6469 12-06-2013, 02:08 AM Bliss..you are so right, that is ironic indeed! bliss 12-07-2013, 12:24 AM Bliss..you are so right, that is ironic indeed! I remember seeing a commercial on YouTube where Patty Lane was using Breck hairspray on that flip wig. MichaelKeith 12-10-2013, 05:50 PM Did Patty and Cathy wear wigs in all of the episodes? I thought some of it was their actual hair. I wonder why they had her wear wigs at all as Patty Duke has beautiful hair as I've seen in many of the other shows she was in. On TPDS, specifically when was she wearing a wig? bliss 12-11-2013, 01:19 AM Did Patty and Cathy wear wigs in all of the episodes? I thought some of it was their actual hair. I wonder why they had her wear wigs at all as Patty Duke has beautiful hair as I've seen in many of the other shows she was in. On TPDS, specifically when was she wearing a wig? Patty Duke had beautiful thick healthy hair. I guess the endless changing of the hair for both characters would damage her natural hair plus the "flip" & "turned under" wigs were quicker for shooting scenes. peyton6469 12-11-2013, 10:59 AM Bliss..I thought about that a few days ago..I agree with you, it would make sense for her to wear wigs. All that hair manipulation wouldn't have been good on her hair and she was playing both roles-Cathy and Patty. bliss 12-12-2013, 12:05 AM Bliss..I thought about that a few days ago..I agree with you, it would make sense for her to wear wigs. All that hair manipulation wouldn't have been good on her hair and she was playing both roles-Cathy and Patty. Very true. Especially in seasons 1 & 2 when she played both identical cousins about equally. I'm assuming Pat started wearing the Patty/Cathy wigs since day one of the show & of course Rita/Diane would have the same styled wigs too for the "back of the head" scenes  peyton6469 12-12-2013, 01:40 AM I read about Rita, who was Miss Duke double but who is Diane, because I've never heard of her. I was watching this on Antenna Tv today and I saw this scene where Patty was next to her bed and her stand-in was on the bed and had her head down but we could can tell that she wasn't Patty. This was on the beginning of the 3rd and final season episodes. bliss 12-12-2013, 09:59 PM I read about Rita, who was Miss Duke double but who is Diane, because I've never heard of her. I don't know why she mentions this mysterious name when she was talking about her body double on the show. Hell likely Patty forgotten the poor girl's real name. I recall the episode you mention. Was that the Shindog episode?!?!?! I swear Rita/Diane/whoever looked up briefly and lipped Cathy's vocals. The director did the same thing again in another season 3 episode. It's like he got careless or the producers didn't bother since the Cathy character had limited appearances anyways. peyton6469 12-12-2013, 10:16 PM Bliss..The episode that I mentioned previously was "Operation: Tonsils", where Patty went to have her tonsils removed by the doctor that she has a crush on, who was played by guest star Troy Donahue. I agree with you..the director probably got careless and kept rolling the cameras:) Michael Keith...I'm not sure which episodes that Patty/Cathy were wearing a wig but if you look closely, you can tell:) bliss 12-15-2013, 12:50 AM Bliss..The episode that I mentioned previously was "Operation: Tonsils", where Patty went to have her tonsils removed by the doctor that she has a crush on, who was played by guest star Troy Donahue. Must rewatch my PDS DVDs it's been awhile. peyton6469 12-15-2013, 01:07 AM Bliss..I"m about to get the DVDs because when the show aired on Antenna TV and This TV, as you already know, at least 3 minutes is cut from each episode and if you multiply that by 30 episodes, that's 90 minutes worth that I'm missing out on..I'll start with the 2nd and 3rd seasons first and then get the first season afterwards. :) bliss 12-15-2013, 09:25 PM Bliss..I"m about to get the DVDs because when the show aired on Antenna TV and This TV, as you already know, at least 3 minutes is cut from each episode and if you multiply that by 30 episodes, that's 90 minutes worth that I'm missing out on..I'll start with the 2nd and 3rd seasons first and then get the first season afterwards. :) Good that you're getting the DVDs, Peyton, now you get to see the episodes uncut and can watch it anytime. It's nice to see the show syndicated still on TV though for new generation. peyton6469 12-15-2013, 10:56 PM Bliss--I agree with you about the continuation of airing TPDS for future generations. I remember watching this on Nick at Nite a few years back(you may have seen this during that time as well). I think that's why I've gotten DVDs on other shows as well such as, "Family Affair", "The Flying Nun", "That Girl" and "Bewitched" as well, because of watching it uncut--get all those juicy 25 minutes per episode, instead of the 20-22 edited minutes. bliss 12-16-2013, 10:44 PM Bliss--I agree with you about the continuation of airing TPDS for future generations. True I discovered The Patty Duke Show from the Nick @ Nite airings. I became a fan since then. Such an unusual show that captured the life of a popular outgoing 60's teen but with the twist of a conservative & brainy cousin who looks exactly like her. I also seen some Adam-12 episodes on Antenna TV I believe or one of those retro channels and it made me buy the whole series on DVD. peyton6469 12-16-2013, 10:50 PM Ooh Adam-12..I enjoy watching that too..Martin Milner and Kent McCord never disappoint;) ..I love the retro channels as well--Antenna TV, Cozi Tv and Me-Tv..With those magnificent channels, who needs cable?:) bliss 12-16-2013, 10:55 PM Ooh Adam-12..I enjoy watching that too..Martin Milner and Kent McCord never disappoint;) ..I love the retro channels as well--Antenna TV, Cozi Tv and Me-Tv..With those magnificent channels, who needs cable?:) *bowing* those channels make me discover shows I forgot about though some are edited lol. Thank the lord we get all these channels showing the classic and some forgotten TV series vs years ago when we relied only on Nick & Nite and TV-land. Screw reality TV  peyton6469 12-16-2013, 11:03 PM Yes! Reality Tv ain't got nothin' on the classics and we LOVE the classics..Edited classic TV yes but we'll take them any time, any day:) |
