Doug Hutchison, well known as the former Dharma leader Horace Goodspeed on "Lost", got married in Vegas — to a 16-year-old!
The 51-year-old actor, who also appeared in The Green Mile and on "24", married aspiring country singer Courtney Alexis Stodden on May 20, according to E! Online.
Despite their age difference, the May-December couple insists they truly are in love.
"We're aware that our vast age difference is extremely controversial," the couple said in a statement. "But we're very much in love and want to get the message out that true love can be ageless."

Marvo301 06-20-2011, 07:33 PM Not only is their large age difference controversial but what about the fact that she is still a minor? To me that's an even bigger controversy and it's the part of this story that I have the biggest problem with.
Retro4Life 06-20-2011, 07:38 PM Yeah, I'm all for being in love no matter what the age difference but the fact that one of the partners is a minor is very disturbing to me. There's the whole issue of emotional maturity (yes, I know 16 year olds can be very emotionally mature but as a rule, they are not and should not be expected to be as mature as a 51 year old). The issue of exploitation of the girls' naivete comes up, too. Is someone, at age 16, even ready to think about being married to anyone, let alone a 51 year old?
I dunno. Kinda creepy, really.
Zoneboy 06-20-2011, 07:40 PM This thread needs a puke smiley instead of a heart icon before the title.
catlover79 06-20-2011, 08:50 PM WOW. :eek2:
James28 06-20-2011, 09:43 PM I'm for being in love as long is the age difference is not 24 years or more, but I hope Doug Hutchinson's marriage fails, and until he divorces that 16-year-old tramp, Hutchinson is banned from entering my nightclub, the House of James. I should be furious at him for this.
Plus, that tramp was born after 1988 (seven years too late to have saw the beginning of Hutchinson's career), and she was born after the X-files premiered. and she was four years old when the Green Mile was released in hteatres. I hope the marriage is annulled.
dlemond 06-20-2011, 10:27 PM What's he wearing to prom?
Zoneboy 06-20-2011, 11:47 PM I thought the marriage was sickening enough but her singing is even worse.

Apparently so, since this girl's mother signed the parental consent form to allow the marriage to happen.
The mother made a statement as well saying, "Courtney is one of the most level headed girls out there and I’m not just saying that because she’s my daughter. Doug is the nicest man I’ve ever met in my life."

Oh I assumed she thinks she's ready. What I meant was "does someone at age 16 really possess the type of judgement needed to go ahead with marrying a 51 year old man (or for that matter, anyone, regardless of age)?"
My guess is 99 times out of a hundred, the answer is "no". I hope I'm wrong, though. It's a done deal and no one wants to see anyone end up unhappy.

Yeah, I'd go with "no" for the most part too, but they seem to think this is o.k. ...
Just asking for the sake of asking, though she is of the age to get married (with parental consent) can she have intercourse with him yet?
I know that according to federal law in the U.S. you are considered a minor until the age of eighteen, so I was wondering on how this works...
Retro4Life 06-21-2011, 04:41 PM ^ No real idea but I'd guess if it's legal to be married then the court would assume that "relations" were part of the marriage.
It is an interesting question, though, and one I never really thought about.

I would imagine that when her mother signed the document permitting her daughter to get married that the same document gave the daughter permission to consummate said marriage. But then again I could be wrong.
What's he wearing to prom?
Good one.
catlover79 06-21-2011, 09:32 PM Gosh, and I thought the (now-cancelled) potential marriage between 85-year-old Hugh Hefner and 25-year-old Crystal Harris was gross...
Actually, I still think that pairing was gross (they could be grandfather/granddaughter!!!), but at least she was of age!! Marriages with 10-, 15-, even 20-year age gaps have never bothered me (as long as both parties are in love and of age), but this is going too far!!! puke:
catlover79 06-21-2011, 09:33 PM What's he wearing to prom?
Maybe he should ask Woody Allen for some pointers.

JamesG 06-22-2011, 01:47 PM I think that, arguably, one of the most famous "old-young" couples are Celine Dion and her manager René Angélil.
They first met when she was 13 and they started a relationship when she was 17.
At the time of the marriage in 1994, Dion was 26 and he was 59.
I remember at the time that a lot of people were saying how much they thought this was bizarre when the marriage happened.
catlover79 06-22-2011, 02:03 PM Not to mention Anna Nicole Smith and her billionaire husband who was 89 when they married!!!
Retro4Life 06-22-2011, 03:56 PM I guess as long as both partners are of legal age I really have no issue with it. Couples with great age differences face special challenges, but so do couples of different races, religions, economic standing, and same sex partners. It isn't easy for anyone, and I think in general our society needs to kind of get over the Puritanical finger pointing when it comes to great age differences. If you are the older man, you are a "sugar daddy" and if you are the older female, you are "robbing the cradle" (though it does seem we are more accepting of the older man/younger woman dynamic.) It's all close minded silliness and ultimately, nobody's business but the couple's.
But as I say, when one of the partners is a minor, it kind of raises some alarm bells. I hope for the best for this couple, but I think they have a very rough road ahead and I worry about exploitation of the girl's naivete.
catlover79 06-22-2011, 08:23 PM Why is this song now constantly ringing in my head???

They could use Benny Mardones' "Into the Night" as their theme song. You know, the one that begins, "She's only 16 years old..."

They're still married, though aren't they? This I can see because they did have a long relationship beforehand. I didn't realize that she was 26 when they married, though.
But the marriage in question... now THAT sickens me! There was a segment on CNN the other night about that marriage and the "girl" was such a ditz, the way she was talking. Yeah, let's see how long THIS marriage lasts! What in God's name could a 51 year old possibly have with a 16 year old? And I'm talking about interests other than what's probably going through everyone's mind!

Yup, they are still married and recently welcomed twin boys.
JamesG 11-01-2013, 07:54 PM Courtney Stodden and Doug Hutchinson Split, Prove That Love is Dead Forever
11/1/13
Courtney Stodden, 19, and Doug Hutchinson, 53, are ending their three-year relationship, according to Radar online. Sources told the tabloid that the child bride is "heartbroken" since "busting out" of her marriage.
After receiving parental permission to tie the knot in May 2011 at the age of 16, Stodden and Hutchinson appeared on the reality television show "Couples Therapy" to defend their controversial relationship.
Additional sources attributed the break up to Stodden's growing publicity, saying, "Doug knew he was taking a risk with the marriage, but he genuinely fell in love with Courtney and didn’t realize how much his life would be changed after they got married."
Hollywood Life reports that Stodden has not been seen with Hutchinson since October 2nd, after she went under the knife to achieve those elusive double Ds.

JamesG 08-12-2014, 12:44 PM Courtney Stodden and Doug Hutchinson Engaged (Again)
Aug 12, 2014
by Robyn Ross
Courtney Stodden and her estranged husband Doug Hutchinson have reconciled, her mother tells Fox News.
"Courtney realized just how much love she really had for Doug," Krista Keller said. "They really love each other and wanted to be together."
Stodden, just 16 at the time, married the "Lost" actor in 2011.
"We're aware that our vast age difference is extremely controversial," the couple said at the time. "But we're very much in love and want to get the message out that true love can be ageless."
The couple, now 19 and 54, respectively, soon appeared on the second season of "Couples Therapy", but were kicked off when Stodden refused to cover up in the house.
Stodden most recently appeared on "Celebrity Big Brother" in the U.K. They separated in November.
On Monday night, Stodden tweeted the news, saying:
"Thank you everyone for all your sweet congratulations msgs, love & support! It means so much #kudos2love"
