View Full Version : What character bugged the hell out of you?
mets82 06-20-2011, 01:51 AM I could talk forever but I want to make this quick as Im getting very tired but what character annoyed the hell out of you. I could say Donna Martin and her goody two shoes attitude all the time. I could say Lucy Ricardo and her never ending annoyance. She complains she has no clothes or hats, yet she has closets full of them. She complains about not going anywhere or something to that effect. She went to France, Maine, Switzerland, California. She also bought every sovenier when she was in Cal., yet she had to get John Waynes footprints. She pushed her way into movies when she should have been grateful that she even got a vacation to Cal.
Ok, with that mini-rant over, sorry about that btw, there is a character even more annoying and aggravating then the 2 I mentioned above. That would be, Wayne Arnold. This guy should have gotten his ass whipped everyday in every episode. He annoyed Kevin constantly. Kevin or his dad, or somebody should have just kicked his ass. He was just so annoying. What do you guys think? What character annoyed you the most?
Goldilocks 06-20-2011, 05:19 PM Skippy on Family Ties (His obsession with Mallory was disturbing.)
Monica on Friends (Get help for that damn OCD, already!)
Fred on I Love Lucy. (How Ethel could be married to such a crochety old coot, is beyond me!)
The baby sister on Growing Pains...Chrissy? - (Uggh. I stopped watching at that point.)
Mr. Furley on Three's Company. (First of all, Don Knott's playing an obnoxious landlord trying to be a hipster just made me uncomfortable. )
I'll think of more later.
Sophia's Wrinkles 06-20-2011, 06:13 PM Bob "Bulldog" Briscoe from Frasier - Just obnoxious and added nothing to the show in my opinion.
Charlie Harper from Two and a Half Men - I suspect I will enjoy this show much more now that Charlie Sheen's insufferable character will be gone. He had no redeming qualities whatsoever.
Don from 3rd Rock From the Sun - Again, added nothing to the show. His relationship with Sally was more of an annoying detriment to the storylines than anything else.
I know there are more but these are the three that immediately came to mind.
CaliforniaKid 06-20-2011, 06:35 PM April Rush Henry's Niece in Season 2 of Too Close For Comfort
Ross on Friends
Torry on the last season of Saved By The Bell
All 3 Blondes who replaced Suzanne Somers on Three's Company
Sam on Diff'rent Strokes
Schmoopie 06-20-2011, 08:39 PM Bob "Bulldog" Briscoe from Frasier - Just obnoxious and added nothing to the show in my opinion.
I couldn't stand him at first either but then he grew on me and now he's one of my favorite characters!
The one character I cannot stand-and probably never will is Mel from Frasier. She was just cruel and heartless toward Niles-who tried his best to please her. True, he told her he was in love with another woman, but even Frasier didn't like her when he first met her.
DSfan 06-21-2011, 01:34 AM Kenny Banya on Seinfeld
Miss Caruthers on Full House (prob the most annoying on any sitcom ever)
Myrtle Urkel on Family Matters (those episodes were so obnoxious)
Lauren on What I Like About You
Randy on That '70s Show
Kristen 06-21-2011, 03:06 AM I couldn't stand him at first either but then he grew on me and now he's one of my favorite characters!

Well, Andrea, I know you will be completely shocked to know I agree w/ you 100% about Mel! ;) She was just mean and vindictive. Although I did love seeing Niles finally stand up to her! I know if I'd been in the studio audience for that ep, I'd have been clapping like crazy!
jimpickens 06-21-2011, 03:23 AM Meathead oh how I wished Archie would've just clobbered him
Hawkeye Peirce too bad the North Koreans or the Chinese didn't waste him
Marcy D'Arcy after all those years of her foiling their plans you'd figure that Al and Jefferson would have arrainged for her demise or Steve for that matter
Fonzie something about an adult male who hangs around with teenage boys and hits on teenage girls that kinda makes ones skin crawl
Joy Turner how both Earl and Crabman put up with her is amazing
70s show watcher 06-21-2011, 05:28 AM sam royer from one day at a time i just wanted to punch him in his mouth every time he opened it

old grouch 06-21-2011, 08:57 AM Mr. Mooney on 'The Lucy Show'
Warren, Helen and Howard on 'The Andy Griffith Show'
Steve Urkel
Ricky on 'The Partridge Family'
KurtfromPitts 06-22-2011, 11:43 AM Lois on Malcolm In The Middle.
Goldilocks 06-22-2011, 03:57 PM Ricky on 'The Partridge Family'
On the old "Jump the Shark" website, Ricky the neighbor was a category all it's own.
More characters that bugged the hell out of me:
Wally Plumstead on The Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet. He was such a moocher - always showing up at dinnertime at the Nelson's house. Then, he was always trying to pull a fast one on Ricky or David @ any given time. Plus, he would never spend any money on his girlfriend, Ginger.
Irene on Two Guys, A Girl and A Pizza Place - she was Berg's stalker and then he ends up falling for her? Seriously? I couldn't stand her. She was freakishly short and sneaky on top of it.
Noel on Frasier. Speaking of stalkers.....he made my skin crawl just because he actually thought he had a chance with Roz!
Aunt Bea on The Andy Griffith Show. *runs and hides* I know! Poor, sweet lil' ol' Aunt Bea. How could she possibly bug the hell out of anybody? She was so "helpless" with her constant high pitched whine. She seemed to always play the victim with Andy. She'd pull that with Opey every now and then too. Nothing against the actress of course, but that character was annoying!
Mrs. Beasley on Family Affair. That doll was creepy.
howierules86 06-22-2011, 04:24 PM Eric Mardian from Head of the Class is easily at the top of this list for me. It's a shame that somebody as obnoxious as him got to be a main character for the show's entire run, because he tortured the very beautiful, very talented, and very pretty Simone Foster all throughout the five years HOTC was on (which is why the episodes Ode To Simone, The Write Stuff, & First Date are in my top 5 least favorite HOTC eps.).
Oh, and I'm sure a lot of you know how I feel about the sweet actress who played Simone Foster, so I don't need to explain that part.
Retro4Life 06-22-2011, 04:24 PM (I'll restrict this to sitcoms, just for clarity and brevity).
Almost everyone on Cheers. Sorry, but that was a group of really shallow and hard hearted people; the only ones that had any real heart were Woody and Kelly and Coach and they were all...cerebrally challenged, lol.
Lenny and Squiggy on L and S. Just never warmed to them, both really creeped me out.
Urkel...absolutely could not watch this character, it was that bad.
Frederick Crane. He was horrible to his dad, just an obnoxious repulsive brat.
Detective Dorsey on Barney Miller - I think he only lasted three episodes but it was obvious they thought about making him a regular. Paranoid, insulting, superior acting and just damned rude. Hated him.
Benny Goodman on Rhoda. Boring, weird and bland.
That's a start, anyway, lol.
Waterston_Fan 06-22-2011, 06:42 PM Kimmy Gibbler on FH. Sometimes she was just annoying.
Al Delvecchio on HD. Kinda like Kimmy, sometimes he was just annoying.
Stephanie Tanner, towards the end of Full House.
comedyfreak 06-23-2011, 04:28 AM Inspector Luger-Barney Miller couldn't stand the guy and wondered what he was doing on the show.
icecream 06-23-2011, 01:06 PM Jeffrey on The Waltons
the twins, Cecilia, and Rose on 7th Heaven
Mel and Julia on Frasier
Jenny on Happy Days
Sam and Maggie on Different Strokes
Ray on Everybody Loves Raymond
Alice on Wind at My Back
Grace on Joan of Arcadia
Wayne on The Wonder Years
Olivia on The Cosby Show
Elena on Without a Trace
waichingliu81 06-25-2011, 08:38 AM julia - caroline in the city- couldn't stand her throughout the end of season 2 and in 3
randy- caroline in the city- it bugged the hell out of me how the writers thought it was a good idea to throw in another love interest for caroline and yet do it towards the end of the season. it was a jump the shark moment. and i didn't find him that interesting either.
dee-what's happening?- the way she treated her brother, raj made me want to smack her. she was condescending and rude when she wanted to be
hilary- fresh prince of bel air- her attitude was just so off-putting and irritating. she was a stereotype of a dumb blonde. though credit to karyn parsons for playing her so well
steve urkel- family matters it was the voice that did my head in
ekkostar 06-25-2011, 12:06 PM Lisette and Wanda from the last two seasons of Night Court. I'm not fond of writers adding waste of space characters near the end of a show's life.
HHorseman 06-25-2011, 10:30 PM Debra from Everybody Loves Raymond she and Jamie from Mad About You I hate feminist characters and they were two of the worst. Phoebe from Friends was just plain useless also cant forget the Taylor family from Home Improvement Tim was fine the rest of them were just abunch of snobs.
McGillicuddy 06-25-2011, 11:00 PM sam royer from one day at a time i just wanted to punch him in his mouth every time he opened it
That Alex kid is the one that annoyed me on ODAAT. This character served no purpose, and was just obnoxious.
704Hauser 06-25-2011, 11:03 PM Debra from Everybody Loves Raymond
The mum from Malcolm in the Middle (I forget her name)
Gloria from All In The Family when crying
Randy from South Park (my least favourite character in all the television I've watched)
Beverly LaSalle from All In The Family, her first appearance was more than enough in my opinion.
When I was younger, Marge from The Simpsons
Can't think of anyone else at this time.
catlover79 06-26-2011, 02:18 AM Alex (One Day at a Time)
Chrissy Snow (Three's Company, in her later seasons)
Michelle Tanner (Full House - I TOTALLY wanted to strangle that brat!!)
Schmoopie 06-26-2011, 02:48 AM I couldn't stand Stephanie's friend Gia who appeared in the later episodes of Full House. She completely ruined Stephanie's character. Stephanie went from a sweet little girl to a total... well, you know...
Goldilocks 06-26-2011, 04:34 PM Stephanie Tanner, towards the end of Full House.
How Ruuuuuuuude!!!

LUNCH 06-27-2011, 02:43 PM Debra from Everybody Loves Raymond she and Jamie from Mad About You I hate feminist characters and they were two of the worst. Phoebe from Friends was just plain useless also cant forget the Taylor family from Home Improvement Tim was fine the rest of them were just abunch of snobs.
I don't watch any of those shows, but I agree about the feminist characters on modern shows, they're obnoxious and my wife dislikes those types of characters even more than I do.
LUNCH 06-27-2011, 02:50 PM Warren, Helen and Howard on 'The Andy Griffith Show'
'
Most of the classic tv shows were so well cast that not many of the characters 'bugged' me,however I agree Helen was one character that was annoying.I don't know why Andy Griffith even cast her.
DSfan 06-27-2011, 06:28 PM How Ruuuuuuuude!!!
http://www.blogcdn.com/www.parentdish.com/media/2006/02/nfha01.jpg
You don't know how much I LOVED that Superstation bug on the right corner of the screen. I was so annoyed when they changed it to that other one and then finally the one they have now.
associate 06-27-2011, 06:38 PM Martin on Martin. A co-worker brought it into work and plays him on his break every day. Can't stand him.
Torgo 06-28-2011, 10:43 AM Urkel on Family Matters
The whole cast of Full House
That friend of Brad's on Home Improvement who was a really bad rip-off of Eddie Haskell.
Chrissy from Three's Company, not the early seasons Chrissy, but when they made her character into a childish snorting moron.
UMFaninMD 06-28-2011, 11:42 AM Debra on Everybody Loves Raymond---her increasingly b!tchy behavior is why I quit watching the show in its later seasons. It's hard to believe Patricia Heaton got an Emmy for playing such a shrill, unlikeable character.
Urkel on Family Matters and his smooth-talking clone, Stefan Urquelle.
McGovern on Murphy Brown---when you base a character off of an obnoxious 90's hipster MTV DJ, it's not going to be good. They should have created a character like Downtown Julie Brown.
Season 2 Rose Tyler from Doctor Who---so whiny and her return in Season 4 wasn't that great either. It's like Billie Piper forgot how to act!
ComedyGuy 06-28-2011, 01:15 PM Major Frank Burns and major Margaret Hoolihan who between them have less than a half a heart and they annoyed the hell out of me but the rest of the cast is awesome and I love M*A*S*H
Goldilocks 06-28-2011, 02:44 PM Debra from Everybody Loves Raymond she and Jamie from Mad About You I hate feminist characters and they were two of the worst.
Yes, yes, yes!!! I despised these two characters! Couldn't watch Everybody Loves Raymond because of Debra. I tolerated Mad About You for Paul Reiser. I love him. But Jamie was so condescending and bitchy to him ,that I was glad he "almost" cheated on her. Wish he would've cheated all the way. Of course, she would've played the poor little victim and manipulated Paul into feeling guilty. Wait, she did that about everything with him, anyway!
andress_jade 06-28-2011, 06:58 PM On Frasier I found the character of Noel to be extremely annoying. He was always hitting on Roz and trying to get him to sleep with her, he was creepy.
Chopper Dave on Frasier was annoying too, he always yelled because he was so used to talking over the helicopter when he did his reports. I'm glad his character wasn't on much.
Daphne's brother Simon on Frasier, I mean come on!
Nellie Oleson on Little House on the Prarie, I couldn't stand her!
ComedyGuy 06-30-2011, 11:25 AM Meathead from all In The Family because he has to be loud and yell and argue over every little thing Archie says.
704Hauser 06-30-2011, 12:25 PM Meathead from all In The Family because he has to be loud and yell and argue over every little thing Archie says.
I take it you're not a fan of AITF? Mike can be annoying at times, but Gloria when she's crying is more annoying if you ask me.
LUNCH 06-30-2011, 12:43 PM I take it you're not a fan of AITF? Mike can be annoying at times, but Gloria when she's crying is more annoying if you ask me.
I agree,Gloria especially in the later episodes became very annoying, and not only when she was crying. I always thought that even though Sally Struthers was fairly good over-all in the role, someone like Adrienne Barbeau who was on Maude would have done a better job.
angiefan 06-30-2011, 05:38 PM Charlie harper,All he does is drink and womanize
Eustace bagg-he is mean To Courage the Cowardly Dog,he saves his wife ,Muriel and him from danger.
Mandy?-She never smiles she's always grumpy. She has no heart to Grim or Billy.
Cyrax 07-03-2011, 01:17 PM George's parents on Seinfeld
Emily on Friends
mets82 07-03-2011, 02:02 PM I'll add a couple to the list. What about Susan on Seinfeld, Emily on Friends, I agree with, and if anyone has seen the I Love Lucy Marathon today on Hallmark, what about that annoying, pain in the ass, to which Im talking about Lucy's mother. Just watch the whole Hedda Hopper episode and you'll see what I mean.
Goldilocks 07-06-2011, 01:55 PM I actually felt kind of sorry for Emily on Friends! I know Ross and Rachel had to end up together but damn! To have your husband say another woman's name on your wedding day?!
Lily on How I Met Your Mother - She is manipulative, whiny and treats Marshall like he's an idiot. (She'll turn into Debra Barone is she's not careful!) But what did it for me was when she uttered the words" Put a baby in me, Marshall." *gags*
Rosslover 07-20-2011, 11:56 PM Major Frank Burns , Emily on Friends, Janice on Friends, Newman on Seinfeld, and so was Kramer. Ricky on the Partridge Family, Miss Doctor Happy Face on Greys Anatomy, Rocket Romano on ER, Ted on Scrubs and The Todd.
mets82 08-19-2011, 11:53 AM I mentioned this in my opening post but Wayne Arnold takes the cake for me. What an annoying, obnoxious, overbearing ass he was!! Kevin or somebody should have just kicked his ass!!!
Ihavealife2uknow 08-20-2011, 09:54 PM Michelle Tanner seasons 3-6.
She was such a brat! She got away with way too much and I didnt think she was that cute. She wasnt that bad in the later years but she still had her moments.
Matthew-Newsradio season 5. His character was simply out of control, he did no work whatsoever, at least in earlier seasons he worked. He was an inept bumbler but his co-workers liked him, which wasn't true so much in season 5.
Just Shoot Me-The entire cast, but especially Wendie Malik. After three or four seasons, the characters seemed to stagnate and get very tiresome. This became especially annoying when NBC cancelled better shows (imo, of course) such as Third Rock from the Sun, and gave JSM a free pass longer than they should have. Didn't like WM being added to Frasier in the last season, if I cared to watch her I would've continued to watch JSM.
Ignatowski 09-09-2011, 03:58 PM Wow gooood topic and one that im sure everyone could spend putting down mannny characters haha. I'll just name a few of them, not all of them were "main" characters but were still around enough.
I HATED Casey Kelso played by Luke Wilson on That 70s Show. Luke is one of my favorite actors too but ughhhh i DESPISED that character.
On Happy Days I could not stand the later version of Potsie. The first season Potsie was a pretty cool guy, but the laters years he became such an annoying character.
On Wonder Years I couldnt stand either Wayne or the father. I thought both of them were way overdone with how they acted. The dad, to me, was just such a jerk 99% of the time that I felt no sympathy for him and the same for Wayne.
Three's Company it was Lana!!!! Im glad she was not around long. Any time she showed up I almost always would be like "oh man, not her again". Just a total waste of a character, added absolutely nothing to the show i/m/o.
Family Guy its Herbert. I cant believe an animated character makes me sick to my stomach!! Any time and I do honestly mean any time he is on the screen I either go away or do my best to not let it sink in. One of the most despicable characters ever on TV--and I love this show, but not him. That voice just grates on me and I find nothing remotely funny about him at all.
There are more hahah but those are the ones that immediatley jumped into my brain :D
Goldilocks 09-09-2011, 06:29 PM On Wonder Years I couldnt stand either Wayne or the father. I thought both of them were way overdone with how they acted. The dad, to me, was just such a jerk 99% of the time that I felt no sympathy for him and the same for Wayne.
I think they portrayed the dad that way on purpose, because the story was told through the eyes of Kevin and back in the 60's, that's the way most dads were. This was all before the touchy-feely-nuture-your-kid behavior was acceptable by fathers. Back then, a father could convey he meant business by just a look!

The dad, to me, was just such a jerk 99% of the time that I felt no sympathy for him and the same for Wayne. i cant stand casey ether i know he was meant to be the villin of point place after laurie left but the difference was that laurie for all her meaness deep down had a good heart where as casey had no heart at all and was just a plain jerk
Three's Company it was Lana!!!! Im glad she was not around long. Any time she showed up I almost always would be like "oh man, not her again". Just a total waste of a character, added absolutely nothing to the show i/m/o.
