View Full Version : Create a Network...that already exists?
mets82 05-26-2011, 08:12 PM The title might be confusing but instead of creating a network, what would you do with a network that already exists? I will give you an example. Take the ION channel. Now the channel isnt really a channel because they show the same shows with the same episodes for seemingly forever. If you could take over ION what would you do? What changes would you make? What would your schedule look like?
You could do this with all the channels but for me I would like to create programming for some of the channels that to me are having trouble. Channels like My Network TV, ION. For me here in CT., even some of the sports stations like MSG and NESN dont really have programming outside of there sports teams coverage.
So, hopefully this will be a lot of fun. I hope I get responses because I think we have good people on this board with good ideas.
mets82 06-01-2011, 09:52 PM For ex., it seems like ION shows the same shows with the same episodes. What I would do? How about showing Mama's Family, Growing Pains, The Wonder Years, The Odd Couple on ION? Just change the flavor of the channel. Also get some new movies to show for a change.
mets82 08-19-2011, 12:06 PM I like to think that channels should be changed because there are some channels that are hardly worth watching. ION, My Network TV, we pay for cable service however much we pay for it and we get those types of channels with hardly anything on them.
Ion- I would add a daytime block consisting of old

USA get rid of all of the Law & Order type shows and bring it back to its original roots.
SPIKE can all those cheesy reality shows and get rid of all those CSI type shows (but I'd still keep Deadliest Warrior IMPACT Wrestling and Alternate History) and really make it a network for men.

I would definitely be watching your network all the time and big kudos to you for adding in the classic soap block.
mets82 12-07-2011, 05:38 PM Actually what I would do is put All My Children and One Life to Live back on ABC where it belongs and ship The Chew and The Revolution to ABC Family. That way it could save up on ABC Family programming(How many times can you burn through a series like 8 Simple Rules, My Wife and Kids etc.?)

ABC is never going to bring back All My Children and One Life to Live. CBS cut two soaps and is now MAKING $100 million per year in daytime only vs. previously LOSING $25 million with their soaps. I'm sure soon enough ABC will be doing the same and laughing all the way to the bank.
jimpickens 12-11-2011, 02:28 AM AMC the first thing will be to return to the uncut commercial free format and instill a policy of showing no movies younger than ten years old. IFC go back to the original commercial free format and get rid of those caceled network TV shows but keep the original programing.

Yankees, I didnt know that. I didnt know they were making that much money. Let me ask, though, ratings wise, is The Chew, The Talk doing better than All My Children and As the World Turns?

Yes, the Chew has nearly doubled what "All My Children" was getting, and also costs a fraction of what AMC cost to produce each year.
The Talk is doing well, but isn't getting as many viewers as "ATWT" got.

I'm surprised that no one has tackled the easiest targets which would be Antenna TV and Me-TV. Every day on the main board it seems that someone here will make a few programming suggestions regarding how to improve these 2 fine channels which really don't need much improvement. Now I was thinking that since between the two of them, they are showing, or are carrying the rights to show, nearly every classic sitcom from the 50s and 60s, what if they came together and merged into one (mainly sitcom-related) channel? Can you imagine how great that would look and how popular it would be? You may have your own ideas about how to do this. I simply took both of their fall 2012 schedules and for each block of the day, I picked a group from each network. The results are formed to create a new network which I will simply call

MeTV (http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?p=4713730#post4713730)
Next week I'll try to create what I think a Canadian version for both stations might look like, not that it will help bring them here in real life. I'm still praying heavily!
factsoflife 09-09-2012, 07:47 PM Yes, the Chew has nearly doubled what "All My Children" was getting, and also costs a fraction of what AMC cost to produce each year.
The Talk is doing well, but isn't getting as many viewers as "ATWT" got.
Sorry. I need to clarify my original post: AMC was doing nearly DOUBLE the numbers that The Chew is doing now. In the coveted 18-49 demographic The Chew has seen double digit losses over what AMC did a year before.
and The Revolution did even worse in the old OLTL timeslot.
