MikeLutton 03-30-2011, 12:57 PM after watching that mess, I can definetaly see why it only lasted for 4 episodes!!! it was good but i missed fred and lamont and them kids was not needed Cloud9 Lorraine 03-30-2011, 09:30 PM I was surprised to see Grady married ol' "Deputy Dog" Dolly. Wasn't the daughter, Angie, the same actress that played Fred's niece Elizabeth?? MikeLutton 03-30-2011, 10:24 PM I was surprised to see Grady married ol' "Deputy Dog" Dolly. Wasn't the daughter, Angie, the same actress that played Fred's niece Elizabeth?? thik so il have to check and see esthe looked young there Sammy Reed 03-31-2011, 10:13 AM Let me guess - He was gonna pay the $300, as soon as Gilligan got off the island. Do I have that right? magellan333 04-10-2011, 12:13 AM Thanks for posting this! Hard to believe that Fred and Lamont would move away with Grady having absolutely no knowledge of it since he and Fred were such good friends. Also, it was kind of sad how they had throw in a reference to Fred's famous schtick in the opening lines of the show. It was like, "Hey, the star of the show is no longer here, but we are playing on his material...." MikeLutton 04-10-2011, 01:50 AM Thanks for posting this! It was like, "Hey, the star of the show is no longer here, but we are playing on his material...." i know i wonder if bubba knew mabye he couldnt get a hold of grady cause he was out getting married home did look nice aunt esther seemed younger and surprised she was not cracking jokes about fred being gone with Lamont joke bubba made about grady wife was funny but you was right about them doing freds having the big one heart attack when he not there did not seemed right seemed disrespectfull no wonder it did not last a year. mabye a show about fred and lamont moving to arizonia would of been better just a thought TV Knowledge Fan 04-10-2011, 02:24 AM ...was because the two main stars of what had been "SANFORD & SON", Redd Foxx {he signed an exclusive deal with ABC for a variety show that soon disappeared, as did his contract} and Demond Wilson {he opted out from the new series because of a salary dispute}, were no longer available. NBC, which had VERY few successful shows going into the fall of 1977, was desparate to keep the "SANFORD" format going, deciding to build a show around the remaining cast members, and some new ones, and call it "THE SANFORD ARMS". Unfortunately, ABC was doing quite well on Fridays at 8pm(et) with their "DONNY & MARIE" variety show, and the new format was no match for the Osmond clan. So that's why the series was cancelled after only a month.... :tv: Cloud9 Lorraine 04-10-2011, 09:54 AM I thought the pilot show of Sanford Arms was downright boring. I didn't like Sanford either. The regular cast of Sanford and Son worked together like a well-oiled machine. There was a chemistry between them that couldn't be matched. Plain and simple. Setting Sanford Arms in the old Sanford house just made the audience expect the quality and ambiance of Fred and Lamont. Perhaps if the show was set in an unfamiliar setting like the Sanford Arms house, the expectations wouldn't have been so high. I felt sad seeing the old house without Fred and Lamont, and the new characters and "schtick" just couldn't compare. Let's face it--Sanford and Son spoiled us! :happyface magellan333 04-10-2011, 06:17 PM I thought the pilot show of Sanford Arms was downright boring. The same guy that posted the Sanford Arms pilot has also posted the Grady pilot on his youtube page. I found it more boring than Sanford Arms. For it to be a pilot it did little to introduce the characters. Mr. Television 04-10-2011, 06:29 PM As fred would have said, the only thing left of Sanford & Son was and. lol I'm sad to say that I actually watched that show when it originally aired. I wasn't disappointed when CPO Sharkey replaced it. Dr. Thong 04-10-2011, 07:55 PM How can you call a show The Sanford Arms when there's not one character named Sanford in the show...? rollo's girl 04-11-2011, 02:09 PM "you gotta be kidding" is all I can say. It might have been a little better if they just had written something for Esther, Bubba and Grady in a senior citizens center, church, retirement apartment, etc. I agree with the poster who said how can you have a show named Sanford without a Sanford in it. NBC embarrassed themselves worse with this than they did with "Hello Larry." And I never liked Teddy Wilson on anything, "That's My Mama" included. Hate to talk bad of the dead, but he overplayed "the cool black dude" so badly it was like fingernails on a chalkboard to watch him. I guess I was just spoiled to guys like Lamont and Rollo. They had it all over him. :) :) TV_on_the_Porch 04-14-2011, 04:49 PM The only thing I remembered from watching in 1977 was the family piling into the car at the end to go out for a hamburger. That seemed totally pointless at the time, maybe because I waited for a half hour for it to get funny and at the end they weren't even trying to be. The producers apparently thought they could do a Mayberry RFD number on the Sanford franchise, but the execution of the idea they came up with was just really lame and bad from top to bottom. Dr. Thong 04-14-2011, 07:01 PM I just read that when Redd Foxx came back as Fred in the 1980 revival Sanford, they completely ignored what happened on The Sanford Arms. Wise move.:D TVFactFan 04-16-2011, 01:02 PM How can you call a show The Sanford Arms when there's not one character named Sanford in the show...? Lamont was supposed to be on the show but wanted too much money TVFactFan 04-16-2011, 01:05 PM The only thing I remembered from watching in 1977 was the family piling into the car at the end to go out for a hamburger. What you are referring to is the closing credits of the pilot episode which also includes the Los Angeles Zoo featured in the THree's Company Opening TVFactFan 04-16-2011, 01:08 PM I just read that when Redd Foxx came back as Fred in the 1980 revival Sanford, they completely ignored what happened on The Sanford Arms. Wise move.:D Well since it was an extension of the original series it was no point in mentioning Sanford Arms because both characters on Sanford was not involved on that show Dr. Thong 04-18-2011, 01:09 PM Well since it was an extension of the original series it was no point in mentioning Sanford Arms because both characters on Sanford was not involved on that show I know what you're saying, but Phil Wheeler did buy the place, so Fred would have had to buy the place back if they'd acknowledged what happened on The Sanford Arms. Or found a new home. But fortunately, they ignored Sanford Arms and that was that. I never did see the Sanford revival series, but I can't imagine it was as good as the original with the absence of Demond Wilson. It was much better much than Sanford Arms and Grady since Fred was involved and his partner was a fat white guy-lol Rollo was also part of the show magellan333 05-18-2011, 11:53 PM It was much better much than Sanford Arms and Grady since Fred was involved and his partner was a fat white guy-lol Rollo was also part of the show The thing I didn't like about Sanford was that the young/old conflict of Sanford and Son was gone. It was just Fred living an old man's life. Sanford and Son had Lamont and Rollo living the single life while Fred was an old curmudgeon that found fault in it and vice versa. treky 05-22-2011, 12:53 AM I know what you're saying, but Phil Wheeler did buy the place, so Fred would have had to buy the place back if they'd acknowledged what happened on The Sanford Arms.
