I'm just curious if the original Robert Stack eps of UM will ever be shown on TV again. I have most of them on VHS that I've recorded over the years, but there's still many that I don't have.

View Full Version : Will the RS episodes of UM ever be shown on TV again? The Slider 03-23-2011, 12:57 PM I'm just curious if the original Robert Stack eps of UM will ever be shown on TV again. I'd pay for Hulu if they got the original series. ms_bates 03-23-2011, 04:21 PM Given that they've invested the time and money to "modernize" the show, I doubt that they'd bring the original back. MyDenverMint 03-23-2011, 10:06 PM Strangely I feel the RS episodes were more modern than the new "techy cyber" approach haha. browneyes106 03-23-2011, 11:59 PM I think web syndication is our only hope. I'd pay for Hulu if they got the original series. I would do the same too. TheCars1986 03-24-2011, 08:39 AM The new shows have zero suspense not to mention zero charisma. The Stack hosted episodes would still give people nightmares if they re-aired them today. Why not just start at the beginning and re-air everything seasonally? asmitty 03-24-2011, 09:15 AM I think web syndication is our only hope. I'd pay for Hulu if they got the original series. I second, third, and fourth this amendment. asmitty 03-24-2011, 09:18 AM The new shows have zero suspense not to mention zero charisma. The Stack hosted episodes would still give people nightmares if they re-aired them today. Why not just start at the beginning and re-air everything seasonally? I agree, as do many others; however, as was stated above, the money was already spent to produce the new versions so they need to get some mileage out of that. Although, I think the fact that Lifetime came back to UM after dumping it a couple of years ago and gave it an afternoon time slot says a lot about its popularity. Hambone2421 03-24-2011, 10:31 AM The problem I have with the Dennis Farina episodes are that they are just re-runs that are redone by Farina. Why not just have some new episodes? If your not going to do new episodes, then just keep re-airing the Robert Stack episodes. 2trackmind 03-24-2011, 12:24 PM The problem I have with the Dennis Farina episodes are that they are just re-runs that are redone by Farina. What bothers me about the Farina episodes is not only are they reruns, the segments are rushed. Stack took his time narrating the stories. He never rushed at all. Agreed. The original Ethel Kidd segment was almost 20 minutes long. Now the new Ethel Kidd segment with the update is like 5 minutes long. dynoguy88 03-24-2011, 02:11 PM What bothers me about the Farina episodes is not only are they reruns, the segments are rushed. Stack took his time narrating the stories. He never rushed at all. It's rushed, all the great musical scores are gone. And Farina, who seems like a nice guy, can't narrate to save his life. TheCars1986 03-24-2011, 03:07 PM It's rushed, all the great musical scores are gone. And Farina, who seems like a nice guy, can't narrate to save his life. And it's been stated hundreds of times before, but it seems like the newer UM likes to edit a lot of the suspense and intrigue out of the segments. boechsner 03-24-2011, 06:54 PM I'm sad to say, I don't think we will ever see the Robert Stack episodes again. I'm so glad I decided to record many of the Robert Stack segments/episodes when I did. If anyone gets Netflix, you know that every Saturday Night Live season is now available to stream. However, the episodes are edited down, mostly due to copyright issues with the musical performances. They should consider doing something like that for Unsolved Mysteries. browneyes106 03-25-2011, 03:57 PM I'm sad to say, I don't think we will ever see the Robert Stack episodes again. I agree Netflix could so something similar for UM as they did for SNL. With UM, they could probably stream unedited episodes because UM rarely used copyrighted music. perl 03-25-2011, 11:36 PM Oooh, yeah - UM on Netflix. I would never, ever get anything done ever again! VikingsGal 03-26-2011, 12:09 AM I agree that the new episodes are super choppy. Ethel Kidd's segment is very short, and even the Alex Cooper episode (Canadian guy abandons his family) is in two separate short segments, one shorter than the other! browneyes106 03-27-2011, 11:59 PM I agree that the new episodes are super choppy. SpikeTV pretty much airs Unsolved Mysteries Cliff Notes. I think the shortened segments are what bugs UM fans the most about Spike's airings of the show. The only segment I can think of that they'd have to do some major editing on for that reason is the Kathy Power case because all that seventies music would cost a TON in royalties today! browneyes106 03-28-2011, 02:33 PM The only segment I can think of that they'd have to do some major editing on for that reason is the Kathy Power case because all that seventies music would cost a TON in royalties today! I remember that segment and the music. I sort of remember a few lost love segements that did use copyright music. One was the case in which a woman disabled by polio was looking for a friend she had as a teenager who moved away. I remember the segment had some 50's and 60's music in it. |
