It has been almost 3 months since ME-TV went national . Does anybody know if they are ever going to start signing any affiliates ? Its seems that they had good intentions , but they seem to be having a hard time getting channels to sign up . While I enjoy Antenna TV , its getting old as they seem to show a smaller library of shows. I like the ME-Tv much better...

I'd definitely like to see this station in the NYC market. Any news? Antenna TV is good, but ME-TV has more of the shows that I like.

There haven't been any affiliates for Antenna TV outside of Tribune Broadcasting stations either.

I wish RTV would just go away and be replaced by one of these!

Maybe Antenna/Tribune or Weigel/ME should offer to buy RTV outright......BAM, instant national coverage!

That's not true. Plenty of non-Tribune stations, like Louisville's WDRB.

As for Me-TV...it's coming. Charlotte and Louisville launching soon. Try to be patient.

I know television these days has become so complicated, however I don't understand why ALL the cable and satellite companies don't just add this station and also Antenna-TV to their line-up of tv stations.Ok I know the answer, cable etc. s*cks.oprah winfrey has a channel available nationwide that maybe 3 people watch, and ME-TV etc. which would attract millions of viewers has a hard time getting national exposure.

Jude The Obscure
03-03-2011, 01:45 PM
Antenna and ME are designed for OTA, allowing entertainment to reach those without cable, by necessity or choice. Not everyone can get cable or even wants cable/satellite. Yes, them getting added to systems adds exposure, but their existence is to serve the OTA market, not to be another generic cable channel.

Pavan
03-03-2011, 01:53 PM
Perfect reply, Jude. LUNCH, Oprah Winfrey Network produces ORIGINAL series for the most part. That generates money and ad revenue, while a cable network devoted to just old TV series would NOT. Why do you think TV Land airs original series? They need ad revenue! No one will pay for spots on Andy Griffith Show!

It is better to air the classics over-the-air on broadcast digital stations where there is less pressure! It is perfect. And it is FREE! Cable companies do not have to add it. If it is added, it is a bonus for you.

LUNCH

Thanks for the answers guys. Now I have a better understanding of what's going on.--As far as ads on The Andy Griffith show, when TVLand runs it,almost half of the show is commercials,so someone is paying for ads on that show and other classics, but that perhaps is a different topic.

I see Antenna has added some more affiliates, but just a handful. It's worrisome that MeTV added an affiliate and it only lasted for a week.

I'm wondering if Weigel is going to try to get MeTV more widespread through group deals like they did with THIS to get it national through Tribune. Hopefully when channels' deals with RTV run out they'll start switching. RTV is the most disgraceful thing I've ever seen.

The future of classic television is through digital television. Not cable channels. In my opinion, that's pretty much over. The channels that air classic shows (Hallmark, TV Land) rarely have good ratings unless they air something newer or original events. TV Land is coming up with original programming and more recent shows along with movies, and I expect in the next few years that is what will take the schedule over. Who knows about Hallmark.

I've been extremely pleased with both Me and This, both of which make me not miss cable at all. Typically, here's my M-F daily "must-see" schedule:

6:30 am Mister Ed on This
10 am Perry Mason on Me-TV; sometimes Bat Masterson on This
11 am Cannon on Me-TV
12 noon Streets of San Francisco on Me-TV
1 pm Gunsmoke on Me-TV
3 pm The Big Valley on Me-TV
4 pm Daniel Boone on WHT (now on Season 2 -- Veronica Cartwright in color!!)

For most of these series, I'm seeing episodes I've never seen before.

chris, there was a station that started with ME-TV but then dropped it a week later??

I think RTV should be concerned since it is lacking in library diversity. it's been playing the same shows for what 2-3 years now?

I emailed WMCTV 5 in Memphis (NBC) that has This TV on 5-3 and requested they add a 5-4 with MeTV. I love Antenna TV in the afternoon and night but I don't care about the movies, and I don't care about anything on RTV. I read it used to have some CBS Paramount shows I like like the Brady Bunch, Happy Days, Laverne and Shirley, and Family Ties, but unfortunately Memphis didn't get it until December 2008 and all of that was gone by then. MeTV has some shows I would like so I hope we get it.

RTV never does any promos or anything anymore. They run the same shows on the same schedule over and over; seems like they lost the CBS shows when they got more coverage.

I think Weigel was not expecting such a tepid reaction to the national METV network. I remember when THIS started, it spread like wildfire across the country. So far, MeTV has been a total dud, which is really unfortunate, because it's probably why they haven't said anything about the supposed Me-Too that is supposed to come to Milwaukee. Oh well.

BTW, I noticed that RTV has removed their Facebook page. I guess they were tired of it turning into a complaint forum.

I noticed last week that they have returned Stooge-a-palooza to the lineup 8-10 AM sunday. According to the "national" schedule, that time slot is supposed to be E/I programming, so maybe this is only in Milwaukee. I wonder how this works, given that AntennaTV also airs the Three Stooges, and I thought only one network would have the rights to air a given show.

I put in my zip code and it says KLWB, which is the THIS-TV affiliate here, so if it's true, it will be on a digital subchannel, most likely 50.2 (50.1 is THIS). Just hope my local cable decides to add it to the broadcast analog package--otherwise, I may have just buy an amplified antenna and drop the cable for good.

WEIGEL BROADCASTING CO.’s “Me-TV” EXCEEDS
45% CLEARANCE MARK FINALIZING DEALS WITH
14 DOMESTIC STATION GROUPS

Partnerships Include Hearst Television, Raycom Media, Cox Television,
Newport Television and Media General

CHICAGO/LOS ANGELES April 4, 2011 - Weigel Broadcasting Co. and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. (MGM) announced today that Me-TV(Memorable Entertainment Television), the new digital classic television network, has surpassed the 45% clearance mark including 14 leading station groups.

The station groups clearing the Me-TV Network include: Hearst Television, Raycom Media, Cox Television, Newport Television, Media General, Capitol Broadcasting, Bahakel Communications, Gray Television, Quincy Newspapers, New Age Media, MPS Media, London Broadcasting Group, Bonten Media Group, and Titan Broadcast Management.

The announcement was made today by Norman H. Shapiro, President of Weigel Broadcasting Co. and John Bryan, President, Domestic Television Distribution, MGM, the distributor of Me-TV.

Said Shapiro, “In this era of constant change, it’s sometimes nice to spend time with old friends...friends like Rob Petry, Ralph Kramden, Lucy Ricardo, Perry Mason, the whole Brady Bunch, Mary Richards, Hawkeye, Maxwell Smart and Sam Malone, who, as many of us know, works in a place where everybody knows your name. It’s comforting. And in the more than five years we have broadcast Me-TV locally in Chicago, viewers from all demographics have responded to Me-TV in that kind of way: as a place that’s familiar, where old friends meet. We are proud to bring Me-TV to the country, and thank our affiliates for their confidence in Me-TV and faith in their old friends.”

“We are grateful to the FCC for their creation and advocacy of digital broadcasting,” said Bryan. “Our affiliates understand the value of their digital spectrum and with Me-TV offer a great new programming service to their millions of over-the-air television viewers."

“It is gratifying that the marketplace has recognized Me-TV as the clear choice for classic television programming,” said Neal Sabin, Executive Vice President of Weigel Broadcasting Co. and who is directly responsible for Me-TV. “Stations, viewers and advertisers are finding Me-TV to be the destination for the best collection of iconic and timeless TV classics. We are passionate about delivering a quality brand to our affiliates that is consistently classic, comfortable and compelling.”

Me-TV’s library includes series from Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution and CBS Television Distribution as well as independent series owners and producers. Me-TV’s programs are some of the best television programs ever produced, including: M*A*S*H, Perry Mason, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Bob Newhart Show, the original Star Trek and Hawaii Five-O series, in addition to 60 other programs.

“It is a privilege to announce the partnership for Me-TV with these excellent broadcasters as they join Weigel Broadcasting Co. in delivering ‘Memorable Entertainment’ to viewers through their stations across the country. To achieve over 45% clearance in less than three months with a new 24/7 broadcast network, created by an independent broadcaster, is extraordinary,” said Jackie Comeau, Sr. Vice President Digital Channels & Syndication, MGM.

With the creation of Me-TV, Weigel Broadcasting Co. and MGM continue its leadership in providing quality programming for the broadcast digital spectrum. MGM and Weigel are also responsible for the creation and distribution of the highly successful national digital broadcast movie network THIStv, launched a little over three years ago.

The station has maintained solid growth in year-to-year and book-to-book
comparisons and holds its own against local broadcast stations and cable
networks. This past February, Me-TV Milwaukee beat the CW, the My Network and
the Antenna TV affiliates, Monday – Friday, 9A-3P.* In head-to-head comparisons,
Me-TV Milwaukee has beaten the My Network affiliate 64% of the days, The CW

Well, I am very disappointed in them. I sent them an email I discovered was dated January 28 asking when MeTV would come to Memphis, and they didn't even reply until just this afternoon and here is what the reply said:

Me-TV is currently unavailable in your area. We are in the process of adding
new stations each day - check back here for more announcements. You can
search for stations by entering your zip code

If you'd like to receive great classic programming in your area, please
contact your favorite local station and encourage them to become an
affiliate. Refer them to this site, MeTVNetwork.com, for network and contact
information.

Sincerely,
Me-TV

That's the same damn excuse that's on their website when I put in my zipcode. Almost makes me wonder if a robot sent the message and why it takes almost 3 months to get back. It is a disappointment that MeTV isn't being more interactive with the public. I'm not making excuses for them, but Weigel isn't a huge company like Tribune/Antenna TV is and probably don't have the resources they do. Tribune is an established company that has tons of local TV stations, a radio station, newspaper, a national cable channel, etc....Weigel just has a few local channels, a recent startup digital channel (THIS), and now MeTV. I would imagine they are short staffed.

Thanks for the answers guys. Now I have a better understanding of what's going on.--As far as ads on The Andy Griffith show, when TVLand runs it,almost half of the show is commercials,so someone is paying for ads on that show and other classics, but that perhaps is a different topic.

MeTV started in my area on April 2. The local FOX affiliate, WRAZ, replaced RetroTV with MeTV. I guess this makes sense since the affilate's sister station, WRAL, airs THIS on its digital subchannel and both networks are distributed by MGM. It's the first time our market has had an advantage in a long time. For example: in many places THIS is available as basic analog cable channel, but not in our area. It does go out in our area over the basic cable coax, but you need a digital QAM tuner or a cable box to see it, whereas I've seen THIS on the basic cable coax in other parts of the country like South Carolina and Virginia with an analog tuner. In Clemson, SC, THIS can be viewed on a basic cable channel (2, I think it was), on an old VCR or old TV with only an analog tuner--no digital QAM tuner or cable box required.

When I went to check on the upcoming RetroTV programming on my cable box guide for Saturday, April 2, and saw MeTV programs instead, I practically flipped!

So we lost RetroTV, and I miss some of the shows like Daniel Boone and Emergency and Marcus Welby and Adam-12 and Leave It to Beaver, but MeTV has much more variety, and is on 24 hours, and does not have huge blocks of Roseanne and Three's Company and Bonanza and Sanford and Son like TV Land, and...has commercials about the TV shows! You know, the way TV Land used to. It even has commercial spots with some of the classic TV stars in which the stars have actually made commercials just for MeTV--they are not clips from the old shows, but the actual current, aged stars:

(1) Several with Ed Asner. There is one in which he says, "Watch MeTV or...I'll FIRE you!"--a takeoff from one of his lines on The Mary Tyler Moore Show. It then shows the MTM logo with the cat but has Asner actually saying, "Meow." Sort of the way Bob Newhart did in the MTM logo at the end of Newhart.

(2) One with Carl Reiner talking about follicular-ly challenged classic TV stars, with a montage of Fred Mertz, Sam Drucker, and one or two more, and then he says none was greater than the great Alan Brady played by the "even greater Carl Reiner." A sendup of the egotism of his Alan Brady character from The Dick Van Dyke Show.

(3) One with George Wendt from Cheers saying "Watch me on MeTV!"

(4) A commercial with Betty White, Marion Ross, Carl Reiner, Anson Williams, John Ratzenberger, and George Wendt all saying watch them on MeTV. At the end it goes back to Betty White, who is wearing a Sue Ann Nivens-like apron, saying, "And most of all, me," as she shrugs her shoulders, and then back to Marion Ross, who says, "Sit on it." I think the intent is to make it look like Marion Ross is saying that to Betty White. The Marion Ross ending is priceless.

There are other commercials that are basically just clips from the shows, like
a commercial for The Mary Tyler Moore show showing her picture in a TV set with the theme music playing and her saying "Aww, Mr. Grant, wouldn't it be fun? Lots of fun!" This is an actual quote taken from the show. It's a lovely commercial.

This is obviously a network that cares about classic TV. I watch it all the time now. At first I mourned the loss of RetroTV but after a few days of MeTV, I was out of mourning. Besides, I hope maybe another local affiliate will pick up RetroTV.

When we lost RetroTV, we lost Ironside, but we gained Perry Mason with MeTV, so we still have some Raymond Burr. And I like Perry Mason better...

When we lost RetroTV, we lost some tough noir-ish crime shows like Mike Hammer (the B&W one with Darren McGavin), but with MeTV we gained The Untouchables with Robert Stack, which I am really enjoying.

When we lost RetroTV, we lost some sci fi shows like Buck Rogers and Battlestar Galactica, but we gained The Twilight Zone.

MeTV airs Marshal Dillon (the syndicated version of the original 30-minute B&W Gunsmoke episodes) AND the color episodes. Unlike TV Land, I can watch the color Gunsmoke episodes and see the full closing credits and hear the full closing music. And the picture is much sharper than TV Land!

MeTV airs Bonanza like TV Land does, but again, with full closing credits and music.

MeTV airs Dobie Gillis, which Nick at Nite used to run several decades ago.

MeTV airs Petticoat Junction, which TV Land used to air.

MeTV airs My Three Sons, which TV Land, Hallmark Channel, and Nick at Nite used to air.

MeTV airs I Love Lucy, which TV Land used to air, but dropped or lost to The Hallmark Channel. Unlike TV Land and The Hallmark Channel though, you get to see...you guessed it...the full closing credits and hear the closing music, AND hear the announcer say who the guest stars were. How TV Land and Hallmark Channel could get away with clobbering the announcing of the guest stars to air their ads and promos, I don't know.

MeTV has a nice block of shows at 8pm EST in the evening, including The Mary Tyler Moore, The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Bob Newhart Show, and Cheers. It's nice to see and hear the full Cheers OPENING theme on TV for the first time in many years. The first three shows USED to air on TV Land.

TV Land...nothing but a USED TO channel for me, now. If MeTV would just add The Andy Griffith Show, I'd be set. But since TV Land moved TAGS to an inconvenient time for me on the weekend afternoons, it will not keep me watching TV Land anyway. If I could get better OTA reception I might just ditch cable and/or satellite and watch THIS and MeTV for free.

MeTV has a Brady Bunch block on Sundays called The Brady Brunch. A Happy Days/Laverne and Shirley block on Sunday afternoons. Happy Days and Laverne and Shirley also run on The Hub Channel, but unlike that channel, on MeTV you can see and hear the full closing credits and music.

The only recent thing that bugs me is...starting this past weekend, the Dick Van Dyke Show began airing with the copy-protect flag enabled, so I can't record it to my standalone DVR/DVD recorder anymore. It should still record to cable and satellite DVRs and Tivos though, since these do not have fast DVD copy capability. Guess the owners of the rights to The Dick Van Dyke show are somewhat greedy, since most of the later season DVD sets are so overpriced even my friends, who are bigger fans of the show than I am, will not buy them. And after the closing credits there is a big splash on the screen with the name of the company that currently holds the distribution rights. I guess they don't like us having DVD-burning access to such a complete version of the show as that which airs on MeTV. They probably wouldn't bother enabling copy-protection if the show aired on TV Land or Hallmark Channel since it would be all hacked up and chopped up for commercials and overlays of ads and popups that those channels love to use.

Forget "Take me to TV Land!" Instead, "Take me to Me TV!"

So much more I could say about how much I love MeTV, but I've probably said more than anyone wants to hear already. Hang on, I expect it will eventually get to everyone's area!

Two other things I would like to say about classic TV on MeTV:

1. I've mentioned over and over how much I like seeing the closing credits full-screen and hearing the full closing music, as MeTV and RetroTV and THIS all do. Maybe AntennaTV does as well--we've never had that in our area. It's important to me because in many cases, like with The Beverly Hillbillies, and at least the first two season of Happy Days, the actual opening and closing songs are different. When I first got some episodes of The Andy Griffith Show on DVD, I listened to the closing theme over and over again, because it's been years since I've been able to hear it on TV Land.

But another difference is that these channels show the episodes without any annoying popups. Yes, there is the MeTV logo, but there are none of the annoying popups like TV Land and Hallmark Channel have for their upcoming specials. You know, popups like "The TV Land Awards are coming up in a week" or "Hallmark Little House Marathon this Saturday." I'm easily distracted, and these popups are very distracting. So it's nice to see some popup-free TV on MeTV, RetroTV, and THIS.

2. Many of the shows on these networks have been release on DVD, but the DVD releases sometimes have significant changes. When the second season of Happy Days was released on DVD, due to music rights issues, they replaced the opening theme used in the second season with the one used in the third season. So the second season DVD doesn't have the "Rock Around the Clock" theme at the beginning the way the second season of the show originally did.

Also, due to music rights issues, the DVD releases of My Three Sons have had much of the music within the episode replaced. I have some of these DVDs and could not recall the original music very well, so when I read about these alterations, I wasn't sure how big a difference it was. Until I began watching My Three Sons on MeTV and hearing the original music in the episodes, and then I remembered how much better the original music was that what I hear on the DVDs.

It's a shame these shows can't always make it to DVD completely unaltered from the way they aired on TV, so it's good we have networks like MeTV, RetroTV and THIS where we can still hear the original music.

ME-TV sounds like a wonderful network. Would love to have it in NJ. As for Antenna TV , I have it and they do show the closing credits w/o credit crunches or voiceovers. Also, they have no annoying channel bug on the screen or popups/banner ads to ruin your enjoyment of the show. Overall, Antenna TV is a really good network IMO and I hope that they stay that way for many years to come. And this is coming from a guy in his 20s, who enjoys watching the classics over a lot of other filth on tv.

It's great to hear that younger viewers like classic TV as well, contrary to what we are told by apologists for the former classic TV networks who tell us classic TV does not attract advertisers or younger viewers.

I wish we had Antenna TV as well, and I wish we had not lost RetroTV, but we'll be lucky if we can hold on to THIS and MeTV--as I said before, our area is usually poor in TV choices and getting MeTV earlier than most has been an exception for us--but I expect most markets will eventually have all four--MeTV, THIS, Antenna TV, and RetroTV.

The wedding episode I am most looking forward to seeing is the My Three Sons one. They always seemed to have trouble getting to the wedding on time, even when they try to plan ahead. This is the one where they remember the chaos before Robbie's wedding and try to do everything early before Steve's wedding, but they end up falling asleep after everything's ready and still end up having to rush to get to the wedding...

I agree, the infrastructure here does not always keep up with the population growth. For a while in the mid-nineties, as the area was growing, there had not been any new movie theaters built in a long time. It was getting to the point that you could hardly get into a movie theater, they were so crowded, and the lines were so long. Sometimes there was not even anywhere to park because the lots were full and the streets as well. When I traveled to much larger cities, I could go to a movie and the theater was not nearly so jam-packed as the ones here were.

Finally they started building new theaters here and that helped the overcrowding issue some.

It's the same with other businesses, like bookstores. In the nineties the bookstore cafes here were so crowded you could hardly find a place to sit down. I could travel to a much larger city and find plenty of room to sit down at a cafe in a bookstore of the same chain. Unfortunately we are losing a lot of the bookstores we have here now, due to competition from the Internet, Walmart, etc.

Link (http://cincinnati.com/blogs/tv/2011/04/26/ch-5-adding-classic-tv-channel/)

M*A*S*H, Cheers, Taxi, Happy Days, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Bob Newhart, I Love Lucy, The Dick Van Dyke Show, The Brady Bunch, Laverne & Shirley, Perry Mason and the original Star Trek and Hawaii Five-O series will be free over-the-air on August 1, when WLWT-TV adds the Memorable Entertainment Television (Me- TV) to Channel 5.2. It will replace WLWT-TV’s 24/7 weather channel, which will be web-only.

Me-TV’s library includes series from Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution and CBS Television Distribution as well as independent series owners and producers. You will see everything from Hogan’s Heroes and Beverly Hillbillies to Rawhide, Bonanza, Gunsmoke and cult classics like Rod Serling’s Twilight Zone. Here’s a link to the Me-TV show list.

“Adding Me-TV was an easy choice for us. Me-TV’s library of TV classics allows us to provide our viewers with the some of the most beloved and enjoyed shows ever on television,” said Richard Dyer, WLWT president & general manager.

He explained why News 5 is pulling the weather channel off the air: “The way people get information is evolving, and we’re evolving with them. News 5 has been a leader in delivering news and weather information on wlwt.com, Cincinnati ’s #1 television website and via social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. With 3 million monthly visitors to our mobile site, it’s clear that putting weather in the palm of people’s hands better addresses the needs of today’s viewer.”

Channel 5.2 will remain on Time Warner and Insight cable — a huge advantage over Elliott Blocks’s low-power independent WKRP.TV on Channel 25.1 and Channel 25.3. Block airs a smiliar lineup of “Retro TV reruns – The Rockford Files, I Spy, Magnum P.I., Knight Rider, Incredible Hulk, Jack Benny, Dragnet, Kojak, etc. — but he’s on Insight, but not on Time Warner.

Me-TV is from Chicago-based Weigel Broadcasting Co. and distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc.

KFTY-TV50 has switched to a new name and a new programming format.

As the new Bay Area affiliate of the fledgling Me-TV Network, the Santa Rosa-based Channel 50 has begun re-broadcasting the sit-coms and dramas that Baby Boomers grew up watching.

The lineup includes classics from the 1950s through the ‘80s: “Dobie Gillis,” “Wild Wild West,” “Hawaii Five-O,” “Perry Mason,” “Untouchables,” “Rawhide,” “MASH,” “Taxi” and “Cheers.”

John Burgess, the station's vice president and general manager, said Tuesday the retro programming targets primarily viewers 35 and older. But, he added, stations that have switched to Me-TV believe there are younger viewers who've heard of the classic shows and “will do some sampling.”

Me-TV (short for Memorable Entertainment Television) was created by the Chicago-based Weigel Broadcasting and is distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. Channel 50, which in earlier incarnations produced daily local news programs in the North Bay, is owned by Newport Television of Missouri.

Me-TV appears on Channel 31 on the Xfinity/Comcast cable, Channel 50 on the DISH and DIRECTV satellite systems and Channel 10 on both Horizon Cable and Mediacom.

I have a question...how is the quality of the prints on MeTV? Are they syndication prints, uncut/cut? Are they sharp? I ask because I know CBS provided some dud prints to The Hub on cable (washed out/edited strangely with the old Paramount Gulf+Western ending).

I'm surprised they don't air Andy Griffith, it is CBS Television Distribution. That show doesn't get much love on cable anymore. It would be a good fit and is very popular.

I don't know how edited the episodes are, but I've found the quality of the prints on all MeTV shows to be top notch since I first started watching it in 2008. As for Andy Griffith, I don't think they can get national rights to that show, since at least in this market, it already airs on a different station.

Great news. Weigel is a top notch company. They've had great success with THIS and MeTV is doing pretty well also. THIS needs some more movies, though. I would not be surprised if they are over 75% available in a year. My only wish is that they would have more communication via social networking, etc.

Good that the prints are in good quality - I'm glad they aren't faded like those Hub prints from CBS. I guess it's like Antenna TV, some shows are probably edited, some not. I agree. The color Gunsmoke episodes look crisp on MeTV, while they look grainy on TV Land, and I have TV Land on both cable and satellite! I don't know what the difference is, but MeTV definitely looks sharper.

As for Andy Griffith, I don't think they can get national rights to that show, since at least in this market, it already airs on a different station.

By the way, thinking about how much better Gunsmoke looks on MeTV than on TV Land reminds me...airing on a different station does NOT necessarily preclude another national station from carrying a show. I guess it is the terms of the syndication package contract that govern it.

For example, Gunsmoke currently airs on MeTV and TV Land--the same color episodes, the same time of day. I know in the past Pavan has pointed out how Hallmark Channel could only air Little House during the day, and TV Land could air it at night, or Hallmark could air MASH during the day, while TV Land aired it at night, or TBS aired Married with Children in the morning, TV Land at night, etc., etc. Or TV Land is showing the early My Three Sons while Hallmark Channel is showing the later seasons. But apparently not ALL syndication contracts have exclusivity.

Because the color episodes of Gunsmoke are airing on MeTV at 1 p.m. weekdays and Saturday, and at noon and again at 1 p.m. on weekdays on TV Land. So the times overlap--both networks are showing Gunsmoke at 1 p.m. on weekdays. And they are showing the same episodes. Today TV Land is showing the Gunsmoke episode Chato at noon, and The Noose at 1 p.m., and I saw both of those episodes on MeTV in the 1 p.m. time slot within the past month or so. So there is no national channel exclusivity, no time of day exclusivity, no episode exclusivity--both national networks are showing the same episodes at the same time of day.

Furthermore, Gunsmoke is a CBS show syndicated by CBS Paramount just as The Andy Griffith Show is. So clj2's question still has pertinence--why can't a syndication deal be obtained for The Andy Griffith Show that allows it to air on both networks, just as Gunsmoke does? If it can be done for one show, why not another?

So, to rephrase the sentiment in such a manner that it cannot be pushed under the rug by casual oversimplification...I wish a syndication deal could be worked out that would allow TAGS to air on MeTV regardless of whether it airs on TV Land, in much the same way a deal seems to have been made for Gunsmoke.

Over the weekend I discovered that Dish Net carries ME-TV and what a lineup. An hour of Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley, My Three Sons, Family Affair. I was in TV heaven, LOL.

MeTV also shows My Three Sons weekdays at 8:30 a.m. I have been in TV heaven for two months now! I really love "The Brady Brunch" block on Sundays from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed by the shows you just mentioned, followed by three hours on I Love Lucy. MeTV calls 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. "The Brady Brunch"!

These were all shows TV Land used to carry--way back when TV Land actually cared about classic TV.

It's great to see Happy Days with the full closing credits and music, unlike the way it is shown on the Hub channel, which shrinks the credits and overlays the music with ads for other shows. The ending Happy Days theme was different from the opening theme in the beginning, and I actually liked the original closing theme better: "Hello sunshine, goodbye rain, she's wearing my school ring on a chain..." As I've said before, you can't even get all this on the Happy Days DVDs, because much of the original music within the episode has been cut due to rights issues. And the second season set of the Happy Days DVD replaced "Rock Around the Clock" with the opening theme that actually wasn't used until the third season, due to rights issues. But MeTV still airs the correct opening theme for season 2!

MeTV has all kinds of ads about their TV shows--lately I have been seeing a new one with several of the MASH actors. My favorite is still the one with Betty White, Marion Ross, Ed Asner, Carl Reiner, John Ratzenberger, George Wendt, Anson Williams, Kathy Garver, and then back to Betty White, followed by back to Marion Ross. Betty White says, "And of course, me!" shrugging her shoulders, as if she is being vain about her career upswing over the past two years. The commercial ends with Marion Ross telling her to "Sit on it." I love it, love it, love it! The fact that so many actors from these classic shows are doing commercials for MeTV is great.

TV Land used to do these kinds of things...when TV Land actually cared about classic TV.

I read on their Facebook page that MeTV launches on KDOC 56.3 on June 15th or possibly sooner. Great news for those in the LA area!

Wow! that is great news I cant wait thanks for the heads up.

Anyone seen any retromercials on the National Metv like the local Chicago Metv shows?

RobbieTV Land has had the rights to Gunsmoke since 1996, so the prints may just be old.

TV Land and MeTV are two separate types of networks - TV Land is a cable network, while MeTV is a broadcast network. Whether a show is or isn't airing on TV Land doesn't affect MeTV since they are totally different types of networks. They don't share contracts. Same way with networks like MyNetworkTV, the Antenna TV, and ION - they air shows that are seen on cable, but they are a totally different type of broadcast, so their contracts are different. So, MeTV's ability to air a program, or lack thereof, is not affected by any cable channels. Some cable channels share shows and don't have any limitations, for example, The Waltons airs on 3 networks at any time. The Golden Girls airs on WE and Hallmark at any time.

I love how MeTV is getting shows from the 50s through the 80s included. They have Cheers from the 80s and The Honeymooners from the 50s in primetime. A lot of people would disagree, but I think it's good they are paying the 80s a little attention with Cheers and some shows that ran into the 80s. I wouldn't focus on the decade, but a lot of those shows have been forgotten also and have their place.

National digital broadcasting network Memorable Entertainment Television (Me-TV) announced it will add Fresno as one of its markets June 1.

Me-TV airs classic TV programs like the original Hawaii Five-O, I Love Lucy, The Bob Newhart Show and other favorites from past decades.

The network is part of Weigel Broadcasting Co. and is distributed by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios Inc. The programming will be available on Cocola Broadcasting Companies’ KGMC-DT Channel 43.6. Reception is free of charge with a digital TV or converter box and an outdoor TV antenna.

Me-TV is capitalizing on the movement by consumers to cut down on their entertainment expenses.

“We've seen a dramatic increase in TV viewership via antenna in the past 24 months as result of the economic recession in the Valley,” said Gary M. Cocola, chairman and CEO of Cocola Broadcasting, in a statement. “Many people simply can no longer afford monthly cable or satellite services. Me-TV Fresno will offer viewers a free and viable alternative to paid programming.”

Cocola is optimistic the programming will eventually be available on cable.

“We expect Comcast will want to offer Me-TV on their digital channel line-up in Fresno in the coming months,” he said.

Ventura TV Video Appliance Center is one of the local advertisers that was quick to sign on to enable this service to come to Fresno.

“In celebration of our company's 60th anniversary, it seemed only natural that we partnered with a network that delivers some of America's favorite, family-friendly television shows, such as 'I Love Lucy,' which premiered in 1951 – the same year my father started his company,” said Mark Shirin, president of Ventura TV.

Me-TV originated in Chicago in 2005, entered Milwaukee in 2008 and began pursuing a national market in December of last year.

All of the ads were taped years ago when MeTV was in Chicago and Milwaukee only. The Happy Days cast scenes were shot when they were in Milwaukee for the "Bronze the Fonz" Statue ceremony in August 2008. The rest were shot in Chicago at various times between 2005 and 2009.

As for Andy Griffith, I don't think they can get national rights to that show, since at least in this market, it already airs on a different station.

For those in the Los Angeles/Southern California area, The Andy Griffith Show gets a showing weekdays at 9:30am (PT) on KDOC-TV 56.1 in Anaheim, CA. Luckily, I have all eight seasons on DVD anyway.

Be sure to contact your local channels and suggest that they add MeTV and send their web address, that's what I did.

Comcast has nothing to do with it. They don't even have to carry subchannels.

Don't forget, Pittsburgh gets MeTV on June 13th and as stated in the article above Atlanta gets it June 1! It is replacing RTV on both channels.

I don't really know about RTV because they haven't added any affiliates in quite some time. In a lot of markets (Milwaukee, Atlanta, Pittsburgh, Greenville/Spartanburg [my own]), MeTV is replacing RTV. With channels like ME, THIS TV, Antenna TV, etc that are more attractive to channels, it may be harder to get RTV (I've had them for like 2 years and they have never changed their schedule and have no promos or anything). I think MeTV and AntennaTV spell trouble for them....but I gues it doesn't hurt to suggest it.

OK, but my point to VisualSensation remains that TAGS airing on TV Land does not necessarily preclude it from airing on MeTV just because "it is airing on another channel," even a national one. If anything, the fact that they are different types of networks makes a stronger case that one doesn't necessarily preclude the other.

Yeah, right now The Waltons is airing on Hallmark, INSP, and GMC.

I'm glad MeTV is airing Cheers, too.

BTW, for fans of James Arness, who died yesterday, MeTV will have a full tribute to him next Saturday, June 11, starting at 11 a.m. EDT. Right now there are running "In Memory of James Arness" before and after episodes of Marshall Dillon and Gunsmoke.

RobbieNah, TV Land never does anything for classic TV stars that pass away. Such a shame, since they've aired Gunsmoke for 15 years. It doesn't pertain to Everybody Loves Raymond.

The James Arness tribute this Saturday will have Marshall Dillon episodes from 11AM-1PM, Gunsmoke from 1PM-6:30PM (Hogan's Heroes airs at 6:30  ), 7PM (M*A*S*H airs at 7:30), and Marshall Dillon episodes from 8PM-10PM again. Times EST and the episodes are on their schedule page.

You're right, it isn't Raymond or Roseanne. :( TV Land did a small "in memory of" interstitial when Bea Arthur died, so I thought they might do a little something for Mr. Arness, but so far, nada. At least, I haven't seen anything, but I have may have missed it, since I don't watch the channel much anymore. I did watch Gunsmoke on Monday on TV Land but I didn't see anything right before or after the episodes.

MeTV's marathon will start off with the very first four episodes, starting with the pilot, "Matt Gets It." I always thought the title of the pilot episode was a lovely play on words, since it seems to me to have two meanings: Matt "gets it," as in, he gets shot and almost dies, and he "gets it," as in, he "figures it out."

A complete schedule and a quite lengthy bio of facts about Mr. Arness can be found at MeTV's web site for the event:

http://www.metvnetwork.com/jamesarness.php

Also,: the Encore Westerns Channel will be having a 24-hour tribute to Mr. Arness, on Saturday, June 11 (same day as MeTV), starting at noon EDT.

RIP, Mr. Arness.

When I Love Lucy moved from TV Land to Hallmark Channel, I got to see some scenes that weren't being shown on TV Land due to syndication cuts to make room for more commercials. Apparently Hallmark Channel had a different package with cuts in different places.

One cut that irked me was in the talent scout episode. Lucy and Ethel had cracked Mr. Benjamin over the head at the beginning of the episode, and when he came to Lucy and Ethel pretended nothing had happened. When Ricky arrived, Benjamin said he needed to leave because he had a headache. At the end of the episode, Ricky calls to say he read for Mr. Benjamin at the hotel. Apparently Ricky mentions the headache because Lucy says something like, "Does he still have that headache?" The line is cut from her phone dialogue on the Hallmark Channel. I've seen the episode three times on the Hallmark Channel and was watching for it every time. The line always struck me really funny so I was irked it was cut. I remember it wasn't cut on TV Land--at least, not during the first few runs on that channel.

The episode aired a few days ago on MeTV, and I was so glad to see the line back in the episode! Actually, I'm getting to see scenes from episodes that weren't shown on either TV Land or Hallmark Channel, as MeTV seems to have fewer commercials.

This show still seems to hold up to me. One of the oldest TV sitcoms, and yet it still seems to be holding up well. Today MeTV had the first episode in Hollywood, with the scene at the Brown Derby and Bill Holden. I love seeing Eve Arden in that episode. I've loved every performance I've ever seen of her, including movies like Stage Door (also with Lucille Ball and a bevy of other stars like Katharine Hepburn and Ginger Rogers) and Grease. I wish the TV series Our Miss Brooks would be released on DVD.

Now the question I want to know is what will be on OUR schedule. I noticed that Arizona's MeTV station has Mission Impossible and The Mod Squad on their schedule. I am hoping and praying that since I Love Lucy is on KTTV/KCOP here in L.A. we get other shows to replace that time slot.

My wish list: Love, American Style, The Mod Squad, Room 222, Rhoda, Phyllis, etc.

I wonder if they are counting obscure/short lived series that they may have access to that they don't plan to air on a regular basis? Or, perhaps there are more shows they plan to rotate in at a later basis? That's an awful lot.

Retro76: the station could be substituting that themselves with shows they acquired....for some reason they can't air Perry Mason. MeTV in Milwaukee pre-empts one of their shows with Roseanne, which MeTV doesn't have rights to. MeTV in Atlanta substitutes Cheers? with another episode of Dick Van Dyke, I believe.

Good to see that they are updating their Facebook page regularly now.

On KDOC, there will be overlap between KDOC/MeTV with the following shows:

Hawaii Five-O
Hogan's Heroes
Cheers

Since KDOC has rights to these shows AND MeTV has rights, since they are on the same station (same owner, 56.1 and 56.3), both might be able to get away with it (it's not like another channel that is a competitor to the MeTV affiliate is airing these). So, they can probably air them on MeTV and KDOC....I have no idea, though.

It doesnt air on KDOC but it does air on KTTV which means that MeTV will not air it on their L.A. affiliate so I was trying to speculate what they may show on 56.3 instead of Lucy.

Seeing what they're doing in LA and Atlanta (at least) with substitutions, it looks like they substitute with another MeTV show in most cases if one can't be aired.

I Love Lucy looks to be the only program on KDOC that will be replaced.

I've seen where MeTV will be replacing RTV tomorrow also on WJAC 6.2 in Johnstown/Altoona/State College, PA. It is sister station to WPXI. I also read on another site that MeTV is now listed as "coming soon" to KFMB-TV in San Diego. This is going to be a big week for MeTV!

KCOP airs 'Lucy' weekdays at 12:00 noon. KTTV still airs at 4:00pm-6:00pm on weekends depending on sports programming from Fox Sports. If their schedule's light or hardly anything going on, they will air Lucy.

The prints KCOP airs are the same, Ronny, looks fuzzy as aired on KTTV. I'll catch I Love Lucy on a weekday or Sundays during "Me-TV Loves Lucy" and judge for myself. I just have to wait for the TiVo Premiere box to get the programming schedule from KDOC-TV 56.3 in a few days.

Are there slight edits to 'Lucy?' I know the network makes every attempt to show an episode of a series as best as possible almost in full.

BTW, nice to see the legal station ID's for Me-TV Los Angeles/KDOC 56.3 at the top of every hour. Very cool!

Petticoat Junction seems to be time sped. Sometimes, they were talking so fast, I could barely understand them, but the picture looks marvelous!

I'm not crazy about the legal station ID's. On both days, it appeared before the start of Petticoat Junction and the sound went out for a few seconds so you couldn't hear the start of the theme song.

I wonder if they have rights to any of these since they seem to have library deals with their distributors:

20th:
Room 222
Lost In Space
Julia
Trapper John, M.D.
MacGyver
12 O'Clock High
Newhart

CBS:
Mission Impossible
Mannix
Love American Style
Barnaby Jones
The Andy Griffith Show (we already discussed that one, but who knows)
Family Ties

They have Batman and Star Trek, but aren't airing them now, so could there be others? There are tons of short lived series, but I would doubt they have those. There are some shows listed above that I wouldn't mind seeing (especially Mannix, Mission Impossible, Lost In Space)

MeTV comes to Phoenix on Monday (on AZTV 7.3). The 10:30AM-11:30AM slot will be The Mod Squad and the 11:30PM-12:30AM slot will be Mission Impossible instead of PM. I wonder what's with the Perry Mason pre-emptions?

BTW does anyone know if ME-TV are showing all the seasons including the B&W ones or are they starting with the color episodes like TVLAND did,and whats the deal with those they always seem to skip the b & w ones everytime a station runs them.

I'm now able to see Love, American Style on my affiliate in a half-hour timeslot, Mon-Fri. Very compelling. I've fallen in love with Mary Ann Mobley!

I also get Branded and The Guns of Will Sonnett every day except Sunday, two episodes of Family Affair every Sunday, and an ep of Honey West on Saturdays. This is the first time in decades I've been able to watch any of those locally.

My only complaint is that for some series, they are not showing all seasons. For example, they show only the first few seasons of The Streets of San Francisco. I'll keep watching to see actresses like Brenda Vaccaro and Lane Bradbury again, but I really want to see the later eps...!

I think they are also using Branded and The Guns of Will Sonnett as substitute programming, so maybe you'll eventually get those too. And neither was a CBS series, so it opens up more possibilities.

Other times they just run an extra of something currently on the schedule. For example, in place of My Three Sons, I get an episode of Family Affair to go with the one everyone seems to be getting. Interestingly, the extra ep is always taken from a later season...!

I wonder if MeTV will get any Universal programming sometime now that it is available.

When is ME-TV coming to the N.Y.C. market

When is ME-TV coming to the N.Y.C. marketNo affiliate has been announced. Since O&Os are so reluctant to pick up subchannel networks (which FOX, NBC, ABC, CBS, and MY are in NYC), I don't know if we'll see MeTV signed anytime soon, unless they try to get a rimshot affiliate or a low power one.

Cincinnati and Des Moines got MeTV today. According to a posting on their Facebook page, it looks like Buffalo got it yesterday on WNGS-TV 67.3. That station may sound familiar, as they were the station that streamed RTV/then RTN online back in the day.

Pav do you know when Me-TV is coming to WGCB in Harrisburg? I apologize if it was already mentioned in this thread and I missed it. I went to the Me-TV website and put in my zipcode and that channel came up and it said Coming Soon. That channel already airs alot of classic shows so it would be a perfect fit.

Back in june my local affiliate said metv would be here the first week of july, now they say august 1st. St.louis will probably be the last city to get it, if we get it at all.

I got a coming soon message for Buffalo NY. it's going to be on 67.3 WNGS out of Springfield.

Don't know when it is suppose to start though.

NOW I just have the task of trying to get that station to come in. I get everyone channel for the area BUT 67. I was able to get it coming in a little a few days ago, but the signal wasn't to great, kept breaking up every few seconds. The next day I couldn't even get that.

Thats the way my channel is, very low power.
I was hoping another channel would carry metv.

May I make a suggestion? On the test pattern for MeTV 67.3, could you please put some sort of note saying when MeTV will actually start broadcasting on a regular basis (I know that I, and others, would really appreciate knowing this).

Thanks for the info Dave.

That really stinks. And yeah, it isn't sounding to promising saying they have no confirmation IF it is going to be broadcasting at all.

I did see the test pattern for a few seconds and it's saying metv on it, I was so excited.

I hope something gets worked out. Or better yet, have MeTV take over RTV on 2.3 I get that channel no problem. :) I was really looking forward to MeTV.

Also, I notice your location is Niagara Falls, are you able to pick up the channel well over the air? I'm on Grand Island, so if you can get it in, it gives me hope that playing with that antennea more I can pull it in and keep it.

Meanwhile, some good news for MeTV on WNGS. I asked Svengoolie on his Facebook page (since his movie show is on Saturday nights on MeTV) about the situation, and he replied It should be on in August, from what I'm hearing... (so that sounds promising).

WPXI in Pittsburgh added MeTV last month and I just can't get enough of this channel. Their lineup blows any lineup RTV ever had out of the water. The syndication edits they are using seem to be better overall than any we've seen in the last 10-15 years. This is a list things I've noted that some of you may be curious about, some already pointed out by others:

- Most of the source prints are virtually as good as possible.
- They air all closing credits without any interruptions whatsoever.
- There are no preposterous banners that take up 1/3 of the screen.
- Just a conservative simple watermark in the corner.
- Cheers has the FULL theme song that hasn't aired on TV in far too many years. It also has the original bumpers that aren't even on the DVDs.
- It seems there is more of a compromise in editing by having fewer cuts and speeding up some parts (although it often leads to dialogue spoken so fast its difficult to understand).

Nowadays I can't see why no one simply time compresses an entire uncut show in order to fit in a shorter time period. With good editing software a 25-minute show can automatically be sped up to 22 or 23 minutes without it being noticeable both visually and audibly. This would make cutting unnecessary and eliminate any segment sticking out as "too fast." But I digress...

Those of you who are patiently awaiting MeTV will think it was worth the wait. It's pretty similar to the old Nick@Night and TV Land - before we all started hating it.

The TitanTV listings show the marathon starting at midnight on Aug. 6 (Friday night). Seems there are a couple blocks of The Lucy Show throughout, which otherwise doesn't air at all on my affiliate. From 8-11 on Sat and Sun mornings they are still having E/I programming so its not technically a "non-stop" marathon.

St.louis is supposed to get me-tv monday , you would think that the station carrying it would show promos by now. I will have to do some antenna turning to bring it in because the station that will be carrying it only comes in about 30 to 40 percent on my signal strength meter. I know I will knock out a couple of stations by adjusting the antenna, but as long as they are not antenna-tv or this-tv I dont care, because the only things I watch on fox, cbs, nbc and abc is my local news, until football season starts.

EDIT: WJHL in Johnson City, TN also gets MeTV on 8/1!

I totally understand where you're coming from. Before WPXI started carrying MeTV my antenna was fixed so that it was the only station that fluttered in and out of solid signal. Then MeTV came along and I was torn whether to adjust it to accommodate that one channel. By doing so meant losing the signal strength of 3 or 4 stations. But I soon realized that MeTV comprised 70% of my TV viewing and said to hell with The CW and CBS. :p

They've added so many affiliates the last couple months I wonder what their national clearance is up to now. They announced it was at 45% back in April. Considering half of those new affiliates replaced RTV I imagine their coverage area has sunk.

MeTV started today in Buffalo on Ch 67.1.

Luckily for me it's on the 67.1 and not .2 or .3, so I don't need to fiddle with my antenna anymore trying to get that channel. It's on my directv ch 67. It's on time warner in the area on channel 5. So far- 1 day and loving the channel ! :)

the channel used to be wngs, but also today the station changed call letters to wbbz and me tv took over 67.1 from this tv. This tv is one of the substations now.
