Mr. Television 02-09-2011, 09:44 AM Wow this is so sad. She was great in all her roles. I had no idea she was 89. R.I.P. Peggy. Thanks for the memories. :(
Leigh Ann 02-09-2011, 10:12 AM :rip: She was great in The Waltons.
McGillicuddy 02-09-2011, 10:17 AM Peggy had started her television acting carrer before the 1960's, as she appeared in I Love Lucy in the '50's. She also appeared in Here's Lucy in the '70's, and does one of the episode intros (Lucy & Eva Gabor) on the first season dvd set.
Mr. Television 02-09-2011, 10:29 AM :rip: She was great in The Waltons.
Yes she was. I loved her as Lulu Hogg on DOH and also as Grace's Mother-in-Law on Grace Under Fire. What a completely different character that was. :(
Cliff Barnes 02-09-2011, 10:56 AM She was pretty funny in the first season of Step By Step with Patrika Darbo, but there were an excess number of characters that first season I guess so they got written out after that.
old grouch 02-09-2011, 12:52 PM RIP

Robert 13 02-09-2011, 01:49 PM So sad. I will always remember her as Martha Birkhorn, Edith's friend, on "All in the Family" as well as Hazel's competition in an episode of "Hazel" where Hazel tries to win a trip to the World's Fair. She was a lovely actress. Always a pleasure to see her on screen.
Pavan 02-09-2011, 01:59 PM She will be missed. Our tribute:

Marvo301 02-09-2011, 02:47 PM :rip: Peggy Rea. I remember her best as Cousin Rose on The Waltons, Lulu Hogg on "Dukes", and as Grace's mother-in-law Jean Kelly on Grace Under Fire. Three very diverse roles each of which she handled with great aplomb. She was a very talented and very likable character actress. She will be missed.
catlover79 02-09-2011, 10:29 PM :rip: to a wonderful character actress. My favorite role of hers - Lulu Hogg, Boss Hogg's wife (and Rosco P. Coltrane's sister). Hilarious!!

They were a great couple. :(
catlover79 02-10-2011, 12:15 AM I love that picture. Cute how all J.D.'s pet names for his wife were all food-related. Sugarplum, pudding, etc.

"I married your fat sister" was always my favorite LOL
I think every single article I've read says she played Grace's mom, but she was definitely her mother-in-law.
James 02-10-2011, 02:36 PM Interestingly, I was the one to break the news on the message board on www.the-waltons.com (http://www.the-waltons.com) (fan site for "The Waltons") moments ago. I remember her most for her Rose Burton role on that show, as well as early on in Step By Step. Rest in peace, Peggy!

Yes, she was the mother of Grace's no good ex-husband, Jimmy. Jimmy was played by veteran character actor Geoffrey Pierson (Ryan's Hope, Unhappily Ever After, etc.). Yes, Boss was always complaining to Rosco about "your fat sister, my wife!!!" - loved it!!!

You might want to pass along the news of John Crawford's passing, it doesn't look like anyone has done so.
Edison 02-11-2011, 03:54 AM Especially wonderful is she in "In Country".
storrs19 02-11-2011, 11:11 AM That's not "Johnny Crawford" from The Rifleman is it? So many stars seem to be passing away now. I was surprised to see that Peggy Rea was 89 years old. I've seen her in seemingly a million tv shows.
Mr. Television 02-11-2011, 11:25 AM Especially wonderful is she in "In Country".
Oh I forgot about that movie. She was great in it.

No, John Crawford played Sheriff Ep Bridges, he was 90.
McGillicuddy 02-11-2011, 07:43 PM Check out Peggy Rea's filmography (on IMDb). She worked pretty steadily for almost 40 years.

John Crawford also once played one of The Bookworm's (Roddy McDowell) henchmen (Printer's Devil) on Batman. One reference book that I have erroneously stated that JOAN Crawford had played this role, and this misinformation was passed forward to other sources later.
