Benjamin Walker Cast as Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

Fox has found its Honest Abe.

Benjamin Walker has signed on to take the lead in Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, a horror-thriller about the 16th president and his quest to rid the world of vampires.




The film, which will begin shooting in 3D in March, will be directed by Timur Bekmambetov (Night Watch), who will also produce with Tim Burton and Jim Lemley.

Seth Grahame-Smith, who wrote the novel, will handle screenwriting duties. Fox is hoping for a June 22, 2012 release.





In Grahame-Smith's novel, President Lincoln's mother is killed by a supernatural creature, which fuels his passion to crush vampires and their slave-owning helpers ...

a cause that becomes a hidden motivation for the Civil War.


Now we know why Abe was splitting all those rails.

Say what !?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?

I know this is supposed to be quirky, offbeat attention getting property because of the bizarre title, but seriously, it seems like the "shock value" of seeing a staid, heroic and upstanding former U.S. President mixing it up with the legions of the undead is the only reason I'd be interested in this. And I'm not.

What's next? "Paul Revere: Exorcist"?? :rolleyes:

The first image from Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter has arrived online, courtesy of The New York Times, who also offer an update from the Louisiana set.

The film stars Benjamin Walker as Lincoln,the man destined to become the United State's 16th President, who must also deal with quelling attacks from bloodthirsty undead.





Described by director Timur Bekmambetov as "a very entertaining, epic history lesson," the film also also stars:

It appears 20th Century Fox's international division has been releasing some promo materials for Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter because, in addition to this one-sheet two fresh images from the film have surfaced.

Judging from these pics, we might be seeing young Abe going hunting with his axe. Benjamin Walker is the man playing the Prez who moonlights as a bloodsucker slayer.

The film opens June 22.

Entertainment Weekly has some new images from the upcoming horror movie Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter, which is based on the book of the same name by Seth Grahame-Smith.

The images show Abe in his younger years, then as the bearded iconic President we've come to know and more.





The film explores the secret life of our greatest president, and the untold history that shaped our nation.

As a young boy, Abraham Lincoln (Benjamin Walker) witnesses the shocking death of his mother, leading him on a path to an ongoing war - and ultimately to the presidency - he chronicles in a hidden diary. The journal reveals the incredible story of a clandestine warrior who never stopped fighting for the country he led and the people he loved.

Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Dominic Cooper and Adam Rockoff also star.





Timur Bekmambetov directs for 20th Century Fox; Tim Burton serves as producer.
