View Full Version : Are you comfortable undressing in front of others?
Janice 01-27-2011, 05:22 PM It seems that many men have no problem being nude in front of each other. Most guys I know, including my husband, had/have no problem in their birthday suits in gym class as teens; and as adults in gyms, showers, saunas, etc. Guys pee standing next to each other. Does any of this bother any men? I know many women are comfortable like this, as well, so let's hear from you too.
This thread has nothing to do with sex, so please don't steer it in that direction. It's about nudity in front of others, without the component of sex.
Marvo301 01-27-2011, 05:30 PM I have never felt comfortable undressing in front of others. I always tried to avoid showering after Gym class in high school if I could. I'm not crazy about undressing in front of others in the change room of the public swimming pool either.
browneyes106 01-27-2011, 05:54 PM I'm comfortable undressign in front of people I know well but not with strangers.
Crimson and Clover 01-27-2011, 06:00 PM It doesnt bother me, whether its people i know or strangers.
I'm a male and have never enjoyed undressing around anyone else. I guess I'm extremely private since it doesn't bother a lot of other people. My father is the same way.
JamesG 01-27-2011, 06:43 PM I'm more comfortable with it now as an adult then when I was younger.
I'm not really a fan of saunas or public showers, but I've undressed (partially) for massage parlors and at men's grooming lounges.
In my early 20s I performed nude at some "adult clubs" around NYC.

Yes, I've always thought the whole thing was quite bizarre, and I don't think I'll ever understand how people can be completely comfortable with it, thinking nothing of it.
Family Ties Forever! 01-27-2011, 08:05 PM I'm very uncomfortable with undressing in front of anyone. Of course in my case I'm sure that's because of what I went through as a child.
Nighthawk76 01-27-2011, 08:12 PM I haven't had to do it since high school physical education. At the time it didn't bother me since I was in really good shape. This was good since in gym class we often had to play without shirts on and the overweight kids got made fun of a lot. :( If it were now, I don't know.
Retro4Life 01-27-2011, 09:02 PM I don't care for it. To be honest, I can't think of a single situation where I would need to undress in front of strangers since showering in the guy's locker room in high school (which I never liked). I don't do saunas or public swimming pools, so really it's not a problem for me.
Like most things, it may come down to what you are used to. I never had to do this often enough to get comfortable with it, and at my age, I have no desire to change now.
catlover79 01-27-2011, 09:16 PM I hated changing in the girls' locker room in gym class in middle school. Mainly because girls that age can be so catty and always made fun of my figure and the fact that I was flat as a washboard. It wasn't so bad in high school (especially since we only had to take gym the first two years) and in college. The last time I remember having to undress in front of others was about three years ago for the church Good Friday drama, as we all had to be in period costume, as it was a recreation of the Crucifixion. They divided two big rooms in the church basement as communal dressing rooms - one for the guys and one for the girls. I was one of the older females then, because it was mainly the youth who were in this drama. So it was OK.
ZeldaGilroy 01-27-2011, 09:48 PM I don't even like to see myself naked, so I wouldn't want to torture others by forcing them to watch me undress! Luckily, it hasn't been an issue. The last time was when I was a bridesmaid in a friend's wedding and she actually asked for the photographer to be there and snap pics of us dressing! I refused and she was mad, but that is too much of an invasion of my privacy and if I had known beforehand I would have turned down the invitation to be in the wedding.

Same here, Michael. When I watch men showering together in movies, I'm like wtf, what am I missing here?!? It seems so normal to so many people. Even the way they casually stand beside each other in urinals is what you said -- bizarre. I do however, have the absolute funniest short video about men at a urinal stand. It was sent via e-mail, so anyone who wants to see will have to give me their e-mail. It's hilarious.
The people on the E train don't seem to mind.
;)
Seriously, I don't like undressing in front of myself, much less others.
dakert 01-27-2011, 10:48 PM I went to Haulover beach in Florida 10 years ago--it just seemed very natural. The funny thing was it seemed all the younger people wore bathing suits  The other funny thing was you had to go through the nude part to get to the clothed part
MickeyMac 01-27-2011, 11:06 PM I am not comfortable undressing in front of others. I have undressed in front of girls I was dating, and living with, and that didnt bother me. We already knew what we looked like naked so it was no big deal.
waichingliu81 01-28-2011, 08:25 AM for me no. always found it uncomfortable around other girls back at school during P.E and especially as i have a huge scar on my stomach.

I guess with some people, they can turn off their inhibitions when it's for "art". I know that models get dressed for runway shows so fast, that nobody even pays attention that the models are undressed. I've read celebrity interviews where some of the actors are very uncomfortable doing sexy scenes with their sexy co-workers. Others don't care. Different strokes for different folks, I guess. :)
Cactus Jack 01-29-2011, 01:33 AM It depends

Yeah, you're right about that.
The first few times I did it I was more nervous about being in front of people in general; the fact that I had no clothes on didn't matter. Eventually I got more comfortable and didn't think any of it.
Also, my eyes and attention was more on the instructions of my Dominant and I didn't really pay attention to anybody else watching. I knew we were being watched but I wasn't focused on it.
Actors get uncomfortable for different reasons. Some don't like "acting sexy" in front of a camera and it is awkward sometimes to act like you're in love with somebody you're not.
I've also read that some won't do any love scenes in front of a crew, the cameras have to be placed somewhere with just the two of them alone. I guess it's to try to act as natural as possible without thinking about all of the eyes on you.
Some porn stars are the same way. They sometimes want as few people in the studio as possible.
Zoneboy 01-29-2011, 03:02 AM I'm uncomfortable undressing in front of a mirror so that should give you some clue as to how I feel about doing it in front of others,

I see nothing wrong with this thread.
I have no issues undressing in front of anyone. I'm not ashamed of my beauty.

Back in my teens this threads would be giving me an erection. I don't want the youth to see this.

No teenagers post here. This is an OLDER FOLK message board. And there is nothing sexual about this thread. I mean, if you were on a sports team you'd be seeing nudity all the time in the locker room. Same for gyms. It's a normal topic to discuss.
Chad22 01-29-2011, 07:25 AM You kids stop talking about hanky panky right now.

That's true. I just hope no kids with raging hormones sees this. I don't read much here anymore and see this.

 Oh well, if they have raging hormones I'm sure they're looking at worse than this.
OH Nuts! 01-29-2011, 04:40 PM I rarely have to change in front of others. When I do, it doesn't bother me. The last time I had to change in front of others was YRS ago at a beach locker room. Since I don't like the beach I'm seldom in that situation.
When I work out at the gym, I shower when I get home--since I only live a few blocks from the gym. IMO gym showers tend to be nasty so I wait till I get home--so that has to do with sanitary issues not modesty ones.

Same here......

I do the same thing when I'm in the bathroom... I usually go for the handicapped stall so that I don't end up next to two ladies on either side of me. If it's a tiny 3-stall bathroom, I still take one of the end stalls. :)
To answer the question of this thread, no, I'm not comfortable undressing in front of others. Only the guy I have, well, relations with. That's it. I hated PE in middle and high school, because showering was mandatory. In middle school, the teacher (male) would send the PE teacher's aide (female) into the girls' locker room to watch us to make sure we were undressing and taking our showers. Not something a bunch of developing 12- and 13-year-olds are going to be comfortable with!
i am not comfotrable undressing my self in front of any girl but comfortable in front of any man
Georgia's on my Mind 03-08-2011, 03:04 AM I am ready to get naked anywhere, anytime.
Dude111 09-02-2022, 11:39 PM It doesnt bother me, whether its people i know or strangers.Im not shy either,Ill undress in front of anyone :)
Caroline13 09-03-2022, 02:27 PM It depends but once you've been in a situation where a health provider is taking care of you, ALL vanity goes out the window. And once you've gone to nudist situations, the same goes.
I was not born with clothes on, were any of you?
GentlemanJim 09-03-2022, 03:16 PM Nudity? No.....but I have a noticeably robust appendage, and I don't really appreciate gawkers. (same sex, anyway)
And like in the showers at the gym? If a total stranger tries to start a conversation...I just leave
Bonniegirl 09-03-2022, 05:04 PM When I was younger not at all. I was very comfortable getting undressed in front of other people !:) :cool:Now not as comfortable being I got heavier and flabbier !!:p
Dude111 09-03-2022, 08:42 PM I was not born with clothes on, were any of you?I dunno Carole, maybe some people were.........

But we all know what you look like anyway Ma,dont be afraid honey :)
I'm still uncomfortable doing it.
Dude111 09-09-2022, 09:50 AM Ya I can understand :)
GentlemanJim 09-09-2022, 01:05 PM Maybe it's not so much a matter of "fear" as it is a determination that strangers do not deserve a "peek"?
Obviously many people cop a cheap thrill from other's nudity. So shouldn't it be up to the individual whether or not they want to supply such a thrill?
Dude111 09-09-2022, 11:02 PM I am ready to get naked anywhere, anytime.Excellent :)
GentlemanJim 09-09-2022, 11:50 PM How does the old saying go? The more greenery, then the more scenery. If ya wanna gawk, then pay your dues.
