View Full Version : Carlina White has been found!!!!!
Charli-Ann 01-20-2011, 02:36 AM Carlina Renae White, who was kidnapped by someone posing as a nurse when she was hospitalized at just three weeks old, has been located alive and well!! She was featured briefly, along with Christopher Abeyta, with the Marlene Santana segment.

truthbtold 01-20-2011, 04:12 AM Saw this on a local news teaser but wasn't sure if it was an "Unsolved Mysteries" segment. Good news! Can't wait to hear the details....

I don't remember it from UM and I saw most of them. I do remember the baby ready to be brought home from the hospital for the first time, abducted by a woman holding a gun to her head.

WishfulDreamer 01-20-2011, 05:19 AM Yes, she was featured on UM in either a special alert or one of those "here are some other missing children" features. I remember the baby picture. So glad she was found!
Apostapler 01-20-2011, 06:26 AM Oh man I got teary eyed reading the news story. Her mother kept her baby picture on her dresser all these years. And then the "baby" solved her own mystery!
Just awesome.
crystaldawn 01-20-2011, 08:02 AM Great news!
MegtheEgg86 01-20-2011, 09:07 AM Awesome!!
Or So It Seems 01-20-2011, 12:33 PM Incredible! As soon as I saw the story I thought immediately of that segment. The only thing better would have been if the daughter saw UM herself.
Jason K 01-20-2011, 05:50 PM The plot thickens, friends! For some time, I've been meaning to start a topic about this and I suppose I'll finally do it this weekend, but basically:
My girlfriend recently began reading the author John Updike, and she started with his Rabbit series; a series of books written periodically through decades following a once successful high school basketball player. The novel for the 1980s, Rabbit at Rest, finds the main character stuck in a middle American lifestyle, watching television with his wife. He discusses popular television shows and what a particular night's episode was about. For example, he'll discuss a night's particular episode of The Cosby Show, and he's really describing an actual episode.
Well, one of his wife's favorite television shows is Unsolved Mysteries! One segment he describes is a baby being abducted from a hospital. Hmm...
nohwheregirl 01-20-2011, 06:09 PM I saw the NY Times article this morning and thought it sounded vaguely familiar but wasn't sure. Great news! I just find it so amazing that Carlina solved her own mystery!
mah79 01-21-2011, 02:00 AM Wonderful news!!!! I remember seeing the Carlina White story with the Marlene Santana segment, and I remember her story on the Charley Project as well. I am so happy to hear that there was a happy ending to her story.
I am pasting a link that I found on abcnews.com

sdb4884 01-21-2011, 06:58 AM I seriously thought this was a UM case when I saw it on TV. Wonderful story, great they have been reunited after all these years. Hopefully they catch the kidnapper too.
Cori aka ChrisSCrush 01-21-2011, 06:41 PM Reminiscent of the 1995 TV-movie The Face on the Milk Carton, based on a couple of novels by Caroline B. Cooney.
A 16-year-old girl becomes suspicious when her birth certificate isn't available to obtain her driver's license and no pictures of her exist before age three.

Anyone know offhand how many such cases were featured on UM? I remember someone dressed as a nurse taking a baby to be weighed and walking out with it or attempting to do so but don't remember if it was on UM, as well as the two mentioned above.
Jason K 01-22-2011, 01:43 PM Here's one of what I'm told of several excerpts from the book regarding UM:
They are watching Unsolved Mysteries: pale, overweight American faces float into the camera's range, earnestly telling of UFOs seen over sugar-beet fields, above shopping malls, in Navajo reservations, while the plaid furniture and striped wallpaper of their rooms, exposed to the glaring lights the cameras require, have the detailed hard weirdness of diatoms seen under a microscope. Harry is struck by how well, really, these small-town sheriffs and trailer-camp housewives, and even the drifters and dropouts who just just happened to be tripping out on a deserted picnic grounds when the giant minds commanding the UFOs decided to land and sample the terrestrial fauna, speak - a nation of performers, of smoothly talking heads, has sprung up under the lights, everybody rehearsed for their thirty seconds of nationwide attention. During the commercials, Judy skips to other channels, to Jacques Cousteau in a diving suit, to Porky Pig in his big-buttoned blue vest (odd, those old cartoon animals all going around with bare bottoms), to a stringy-haired rock singer mouthing his mike in a lathered-up agony like a female porn star approaching a blow job, to a courtroom scene where the judge's shifty eyes in a second show that he is in on a deal, a hummingbird beating its surprisingly flexible wings in slow motion, Angela Lansbury looking shocked, Greer Garson looking gently out of focus in black and white, and back to Unsolved Mysteries, now about an infant who disappeared from a New York hospital, making Robert Stack, in his mystical raincoat, extra quizzical.
browneyes106 01-22-2011, 08:46 PM I saw this on the news a couple of days back. I saw a documentary on missing children that featured Carlina but I didn't remember this case being on UM.
Cori aka ChrisSCrush 01-24-2011, 01:23 AM With the bitch who did it in custody, time for the fur to fly.
Apostapler 01-24-2011, 12:20 PM Oh yeah, not only is the happiest ending ever happening, so will justice!
Corky Kneivel 01-24-2011, 04:31 PM She looks soooooooo much like her dad. Like both her parents actually but just like her dad.
Fantastic for them
Carlina is now the subject of an article in the February 7 issue of People magazine. I bought that issue today.
karenjanee 02-05-2011, 12:26 PM Not only is it wonderful news that Carlina has been found but that she has reconnected with her bio family makes it so much better!
mah79 02-18-2011, 11:17 PM Hi everyone,
I found this article online, in last week's Daily News. It is kind of depressing. It claims that Carlina has not had any contact with her biological parents since their reunion in January, and that she only calls to ask for money that her parents won from a settlement against Harlem Hospital (the hospital where she was kidnapped).
I am hoping that this story is not all that true--especially given the Daily's reputation as a tabloid paper--but it is really depressing. She came from an abusive household, and her parents wanted nothing more than to find her alive. I was really hoping that her story would have a happy ending.

Apostapler 02-19-2011, 04:33 AM If the way she was raised according to media reports is the truth, this sadly would not surprise me. We expect someone raised by a woman with morals such as this, to behave differently?
I certainly HOPE she would behave differently, but as I said, this wouldn't be that shocking to me.

Unfortunately it is true. I saw the bio Mom on one of the 3 major morning shows last week. I guess the parents did receive a settlement a long time ago. They did put it in a trust for their missing daughter, but after years had gone by, they eventually had to use it for some of their own finances.
The bio Mom is hoping that things will improve in time.
Really, whoever would have thought that this girl would EVER turn up and find them. Sad.

So this girl was kidnapped at 3 weeks old from a incompetent hospital and raised till 18 by the kidnappers?
Then she only asks her real parents for money and doesn't respect them? Is that about right?

That's what it sounded like the last time that I heard anything. I haven't researched since, so something could have changed.
bugnpinky 05-30-2011, 02:10 AM This makes absolutely no sense. There has to be more to this. I'm not saying it isn't true. It's just there's so little to go on, and the media is great for heavily editing and censoring themselves. Is this a misunderstanding blown out of proportion? Is it exactly how it was published? To me, IMO, the few comments made by Carlina seem to be very telling, that there's more. Maybe there is and maybe there isn't. I wish something more in depth would be published.

This is what I found from February 2011:

I don't see much after that.
bugnpinky 05-30-2011, 03:52 PM Thank you fo rthose links. IMO, it seems like the People link might be closer to the truth....I could be wrong of course but it seems almost a complete turn around of the NY daily news article. It's also strange that the father has a different take on things.
nohwheregirl 10-24-2011, 10:21 PM NYMag has an extensive article on the Carline White case (http://nymag.com/news/features/carlina-white-2011-10/). I haven't read it yet, but I thought I'd post it before tackling it...
crochetbuff 10-25-2011, 11:20 AM Thanks for posting the article! Long, but good. I think it speaks to how hard it is to reunite with a family you never knew. An extreme high at first, and then reality hits. Sounds like they are slowly working their way back to some sort of relationship.
