Not that there has been any discernable call for it but the creators of “Dynasty” plan to bring back the franchise as a series of big screen movies.
Citing TV-to-film successes such as “Sex and the City,” “The A-Team” and “Charlie’s Angels,” co-creator Esther Shapiro said, “The time is right,” in a statement released with the announcement.
Esther and her creative partner/husband Richard feel bigger budgets and the ability to steam it up on the big screen make the revival viable.
“We want to go back to the beginning with these characters and use the film to trace their roots. We’re taking Blake Carrington back to his young manhood when he met Alexis, and setting the movie in the ‘Mad Men’ era of the 1960s. It will give us the opportunity to start fresh, without the constraints that television placed on our characters.”
Don’t line up for tickets. The script hasn’t been written but the Shapiros hope to have cameras rolling some time this year.
