I saw on my cable box earlier that "Bewitched" episodes Mon-Fri will be replaced with "The Nanny"! Agh!

And they just brought it back a couple months ago! :(

I presume you mean TVLand.Well, that's TVLand for you.One minute, they bring a show back(like "Bewitched",or some other real classic 1960'sTV show, and yes,I know classic TV is in they eye of the beholder,so please,do NOT go there),and then cancel it .Well, anyway,if you can get WGN America,it's still on there(but not, unfortunately, the black and white gems).

Oh, yeah I have WGN. :)
But they only show it once (which at least they show it).

Oh I was just being cute/funny like Monika. ;)

What if it were the 1970's and this was happening?
But on a serious note, they really do need to stop. I may be satisfied if they edit things out of The Nanny the way they edit Bewitched...

I wonder if a second TV Land channel, devoted entirely to shows from the 50's to the 70's, might work? The TV Land currently on seems to be increasingly focused on "newer" classics (is that an oxymoron, or what?) like Rosanne, the Nanny, the Cosby Show, etc, so maybe the only way to ensure that those revered older shows have a chance is to create an entire channel for them?

It wouldnt work because they would find a way to screw it up.

Neither do I. Plus, the DVDs are great because they are uncut, no commercials, and you can watch them at your own leisure.

Even if I do now have all the seasons, except 5 & 6 still.

I hope WGN America keeps Bewitched, but I doubt they will for a long time. They have slowly been removing/cutting back classic programming.

...that 'TV LAND' adapted a "let's throw this on the wall and see if it sticks" approach to their daily schedule. If a "classic" show doesn't attract enough viewers or interest {as in the case of 'BOSTON LEGAL", "DESIGNING WOMEN" and "JUST SHOOT ME!"}, they'll remove it from their schedule and replace it with something else. In this context, why should "BEWITCHED" be treated any different?

And who cares if the closing credits are "repositioned" and quickly flashed at the bottom of the screen during the final scene, to easily provide a smooth transition to the next show on the schedule, freeing more time for additional commercial revenue? Every additional 30 seconds is worth at least $100,000, so let's trim the scenes a bit more than required...viewers won't really know the difference, because they're too stupid to change channels when we're on, and, this is to our advantage, they just don't care! And we got "HOT IN CLEVELAND"! Everybody's a Betty White fan, aren't they? They'll even stick around for that new dumb sitcom following it, "RETIRED AT 35". We got the "buzz", man!

well, here's my reaction to that :brent :brent

I no longer have TV Land...since I cut off expanded cable. Thank God for what is on DVD...I'm not too much at the mercy of cable channels who program for the lowest common denominator all the time. i had a chance to watch BW two weeks ago--just to see.......and the editing was horrible....scenes outright chopped off with those quick fade ins.....I felt I was watching a slightly expanded minisode!

Everyone stop saying that!!!! Yes, I realize that! I've heard it a million times, I even started a thread about it a few months ago. But this is what they WANT us to do, you guys. They know that if they crop and edit scenes out of Bewitched, (to make more money) then we'll have to go out and buy the tapes and DVDs and stuff. And do you know what? That means that they're making even MORE MONEY. It's money they're after! They want our money! We can't give them what they want or they'll walk all over us! Yes, if we buy the stuff, then we can have them for our own enjoyment, but what will happen later? Pretty soon, it won't just be Bewitched. Oh, no, those greedy people won't stop there! It'll be Bonanza, Andy Griffith, I Love Lucy! All of the classics we know and love! And why should they stop at the classics? They'll keep going and going until TV is nothing but commercials. Just so that they can make more money.

...All right. I'm done.

^ Yeah I don't agree. I thought fans of shows, were all about supporting shows? Watching the show on TV Land supports the show being edited, but buying the DVD's supports the show as a whole

Plus you Bewitched fans have NOTHING to complain about, the Nanny doesn't even have the whole series out on DVD unlike Bewitched......

I do like the idea of shows, especially older ones like Bewitched, getting exposure on television because that may attract new fans to the show that might not be too familiar with it or have never seen it before. It's kind of hard to buy a DVD of something you've never seen. JMO.

Regarding the DVD issue, people can always see episodes of certain shows online, or check the sets out of the library, etc. You don't always have to buy the episodes to see them. Let's just agree to disagree before things turn into a fight.

well, not everyone can afford a DVD player. I know that may sound unbeleivable since you can buy one for just $40, but not everyone has that kind of money.

Agreed! I do own a few DVDs, but I'm not entirely comfortable with them. I'm not going to repeat myself because I've already started a rather long thread about the subject a few months ago:

http://www.sitcomsonline.com/boards/showthread.php?t=271997

And I may sound like I'm 170 years old here, but I miss the good old days. Back when it wasn't too easy to get entertainment (like watching TV online and things like that) and when you finally did get your entertainment, you appreciated it. I'm not saying that nobody is appreciative here, but what I'm saying is...when you watched TV, it was for enjoyment. Not long, pointless commercials and "Follow us now on FaceBook" and YouTube and HD flat screens! And when TV time was over, you played outside or spent time with your family. So I'm not just talking about editing and replacing Bewitched, I'm speaking for the sake of television. For America. For our families.

This isn't off-topic, is it? I hate to be off-topic...

I know what you're getting at - we'll never again see the likes of one-TV households, that had only major networks at the time, that signed off at a certain early AM hour and showed test patterns until 6 in the morning. Those were indeed simpler (and in many ways BETTER) times.
