View Full Version : Anyone interested in a "Unsolved Mysteries" podcast???
truthbtold 01-12-2011, 03:56 AM Hello all,
Being that I am an BIG fan of "Unsolved Mysteries" and I also listen to numerous podcast related to television shows, I got to thinking...Wouldn't it be a great idea to have a podcast about Unsolved Mysteries? We could discuss classic unsolved mystery segments, provide up-to-date updates on cases, discuss theories that fans have, possibly get interviews with people involved or related to cases, experts, etc. We could have 2 or 3 people involved with the hosting the show regularly. Many podcasts with more than one host involve the other hosts calling in over the phone so physical locations would not be a major problem. We could record a podcast, weekly, bi-weekly, or monthly. Each podcast could revolve around one classic case for most of the segment, perhaps even air clips from the segment itself(with the necessary permissions of course). There could also be a part at the end of the segment where we read listener/fans emails and discuss them.
Anyone who is a fan of this idea or even interested in helping make this podcast a reality please respond to this thread or message me.
I am extremely interested in getting this idea moving. Any input is very appreciated.

I think that it would be a good idea. You should probably check to see if someone has tried it before and see how successful at it they were. Also, you might want to contact UM's current production company and see if they have any issues w/ it.
They may not and they may also provide you w/ some levels of assistance.
Keep us apprised as to what you end up doing.
truthbtold 01-12-2011, 09:00 PM So I'm doing the research and figuring out the logistics. May be a while before I get some things set in stone. Rest assured, I am working on it. I would love for people on this site to be involved as this is the most comprehensive site out there regarding the show and its "mysteries". If anyone has any suggestions, feedback, opinions, or anything else please feel free to reply to this thread or message me.
MyDenverMint 01-12-2011, 10:24 PM I'd love for one to be made!
truthbtold 01-19-2011, 04:27 AM Still doing research on the necessary equipment, rights from production company, costs involved, etc. Considering reaching out to some of the forum regulars here to see if they would like to be involved in any way as well. Also, already compiling a list of the first 5 or 10 cases that will be discussed........STAY TUNED.....
nohwheregirl 03-02-2011, 12:49 AM Michelle over at TrueCrimeDiary has posted a podcast about Joseph Henry Burgess (http://www.truecrimediary.com/index.cfm?page=cases&id=120), who is a suspect in the Cutshall/Allen murders. Not a UM case, but highly recommended, especially if you're interested in a diy podcast.
truthbtold 03-04-2011, 02:11 PM Thanks for the info! I'll be sure to check it out.
BTW, still doing the research as to costs for equipment and working on contacts over at Cosgrove for permissions. The podcast could in theory go on anyway without the permission however it would have to be done without using ANY actual clips from the show. Plus, I would LOVE to be able to use the old school music for the opening of the podcast. I'll keep everyone posted...
QuenSolen 03-09-2011, 01:24 PM I'm interested in helping out anyway I can. We'll need a good group of people to host, so we have interesting round table discussions with many opinions/debates. I'd love to be part of that, but..if not, whatever else I can do :)
Mysteryphile 07-29-2011, 05:11 AM Are you still thinking of doing this truthbtold? I've just started a cycling program and I need something to keep my mind off the pain lol....
This would be awesome! I don't listen to many podcasts, but I'd be down for a UM one.
everybodylovesrs 07-31-2011, 02:15 AM Definitely interested in following such a podcast. Can't you use parts of Unsolved as fair use, commentary?
Orange_Sody_84 07-31-2011, 08:34 AM Yeah. even if you couldn't use soundbytes from the show it would still be enough just to have a Podcast discussing the cases! I hope this comes to completion. sounds really cool.
Hambone2421 08-01-2011, 11:24 AM I agree. This would definitely be fun! Count me in!
SageSlowdive 08-01-2011, 08:36 PM Let's do it! :)
By the way, if anyone wants to chat about UM, my AIM is Fruitcakemofo.
everybodylovesrs 09-14-2011, 04:48 PM Any word?
QuenSolen 09-09-2012, 10:53 AM Well since our original idea man has gone missing I'll take over the reins.
The only thing is, I've no idea how to go around getting permissions and such so maybe someone could help out with that aspect?
As far as getting it off the ground, one possibility is we could use the Skype Audio conferencing and simply record/edit our conversations about the cases.
welshman 09-09-2012, 11:54 AM Another option could be something like blogtv I'm new to it but I'm currently watching 4 people chat together on four different webcams and people can post comments or questions live.

Honestly, I think the smartest thing to do is just discuss "mysterious" cases and ALSO cover those that have been on UM and just mention that UM did a segment on it. While there is certainly a lot of ground you can cover with just UM, I think it'd be nice to not feel limited either. For example, a variety of missing persons can be profiled without feeling that they must have appeared on UM to qualify for the podcast.
I think this would also work in a regular ol' wordpress blog format with various contributors and an editor. :) I've followed a lot of fun blogs that reviewed tv shows and/or were pretty much like reading a podcast. The other advantage with a blog is that it's easy to publish and there could be stuff like every Monday profile a missing person, every Friday debunk an unsolved mystery/urban legend, etc.
QuenSolen 01-14-2013, 10:53 PM Not a bad idea. We could do live chats rather then something with audio. Perhaps watch segments together and comment? We could set up an offsite chat room so that we can mention "the unmentionable" website and link to segments directly as we chat.
We could try for maybe an hour or so a week? Go through one unemtnionable account, then move to another, etc etc. We could also comment on shows such as Disappeared, and other cases so that we aren't trapped as idyla suggested. Heck, we could each bring to the table a case that is local to our area and have a discussion on that.
So many possibilities :)
