Hot in Cleveland has a midseason finale?
I'm guessing it'll go on hiatus for several months then resume with new episodes in May or June.

They need to bring MWC in to primetime...

Hot in Cleveland is splitting up the 20 episode order into two 10-episode blocks. First block airs Jan. 19-March 23 with Retired at 35. Not sure when the remaining 10 from the season will air, probably in summer.

One question:I presume Boston Legal DIDN'T do well the first time TVLand aired it(or DID it?).So why are they bringing it back?

This is not February news, but TV Land is taping 3 sitcom pilots the next three weeks in February at CBS Studio City. They are just pilots, but should they come out good, they could be ordered to series and join Hot in Cleveland and Retired at 35.

Here are the pilots, which we have mentioned before (http://blog.sitcomsonline.com/2010/11/tv-one-december-2010-highlights-tv-land.html) but now we have more details on them:

Ex Men (Untitled Mark Reisman Pilot)
A new comedy for TV Land from creator/producer Mark Reisman (Frasier) revolving around 3 divorced guys, who live in an apartment building where their landlord is their sexy female divorce attorney. Starring Donald Faison (Scrubs), Kristen Johnston (3rd Rock From The Sun), Wayne Knight (Seinfeld, Hot in Cleveland), David Alan Basche (Law & Order), Beth Lacke (Happy Hour), Kelly Stables (Romantically Challenged, Two and a Half Men), Edi Patterson (The Groundlings) and Golden Brooks (Girlfriends).

Happily Divorced
A new comedy for TV Land based on Fran Drescher's real life. In addition to co-writing/exec producing, the former The Nanny star will star in the project, about a woman who re-enters the dating world after finding out that her husband is gay. It focuses on how she juggles her relationship with her current boyfriend and ex-husband post-divorce. Rita Moreno, Robert Walden and Tichina Arnold (Everybody Hates Chris) co-star.

Rip City (Untitled Terri Minsky Pilot)
Creator/producer Terri Minsky (Less Than Perfect), presents a new comedy for TV Land set at a regional beverage manufacturer and distributor in Oregon centering on a thirtysomething, Ivy League-educated New York woman who takes over as the boss. Her enthusiasm is dampened when her boyfriend doesn't follow her and nobody at the new company wants her there. Starring Christine Taylor (The Brady Bunch Movie) and Sherri Shepherd (Sherri, Less Than Perfefct).

So, does this mean Bewitched will be back at 11 on weekdays?

Hot in Cleveland has been down this season greatly and R@35 is not doing impressively. They need to move them out of Wednesdays at 10 (why air sitcoms at 10PM when there's nothing else to air?) and try Tuesdays or Thursdays at 9PM. I don't know why they are so dead-set on keeping original shows on Wednesdays at 10PM.....these aren't reality shows like they've always aired then. Cutting back on the encores may help also.

I hope HIC doesn't go below 2mil next month. I could see Retired falling further.

Why not air Hot in Cleveland and Retired at 35 at 8 and 8:30 on a certain day? Then when they add more original shows to the lineup, they could air after. Eventually, the original shows could encompass 8 PM-11; the same time frame as the major networks.

Since "Hot in Cleveland" and "Retired at 35" are shows that belong in prime-time,and,since they have NOT done well so far,TVLand will probably,no doubt, move them to where they move ALL shows that have not done well at night-to the morning.Because,"Bewitched"is just one example of the many shows that WERE on in prime-time .Besides, can you see "Hot in Cleveland" and "Retired at 35"in the morning?I don't think so.

They are not going to be moved into the mornings. They do better than Bewitched repeats. Hot in Cleveland may be down from last season, but it is by far their highest rated series.

I don't really care for Retired at 35 after seeing the second episode so I'm not really concerned about it. I think they need to try to move HIC out of Weds @ 10 in to an earlier slot.

One more thing, something else needs to air from 8-9PM instead of Sanford and Son. That doesn't fit anymore. I love the show, but it just seems weird in primetime there these days. Maybe they should try to get MWC for weekdays? Roseanne, Home Improvement?

I'm sure Hot in Cleveland will do better when it airs in the summer anyways. No need to worry! :)

It is a bad timeslot with so many shows on. I don't watch it live and I can't even DVR it until 11.

I agree that it will do better when it resumes in the summer. I just think the timeslot and competition is working against it. Last week's episode was awesome.

I would do this for a schedule, IF I were them:

Weekdays

8:00AM Home Improvement 2X
9:00AM The Nanny 2X
10:00AM I Dream of Jeannie 2X
11:00AM Bewitched 2X
12:00PM Leave it to Beaver 2X
1:00PM Gunsmoke
2:00PM Bonanza
3:00PM Bonanza
4:00PM The Andy Griffith Show 2X
5:00PM Good Times
5:30PM The Jeffersons
6:00PM All in the Family 2X
7:00PM Sanford and Son 2X
8:00PM Married...With Children 2X (Raymond 2X on Thursday)
9:00PM Everybody Loves Raymond 4X (Best Night In on Mon., Comedies on Thurs.)
11:00PM Roseanne 4X
1:00AM The Nanny 2X
2:00AM Three's Company 4X
4:00AM M*A*S*H 2X
5:00AM Boston Legal

Weekends

6:00AM Roseanne 2X
8:00AM The Nanny 6X
10:00AM Home Improvement 4X
12:00PM I Dream of Jeannie 4X
2:00PM Bewitched 4X
4:00PM The Andy Griffith Show 4X
6:00PM Married...With Children 6X
9:00PM-on use weekday schedule of Raymond, Roseanne, Nanny, 3's, etc.

That would all flow perfectly. The above would only work really well if they could somehow air MWC on a daily basis which is unlikely. If they have to air newer shows in the morning, they might as well air Home Improvement along with Nanny instead of BL. Just what I would do.....I know a lot of people don't like the newer shows, but that's the direction they are going in so they might as well schedule them properly along with the older shows.

If I were them,I get rid of all of the originals period! Sure they get good ratings;for a week or two,but when people catch on to how overrated, overhype, and overblown these shows really are, they stop watching them.Of course with more news that even more originals comming, the remaining classics will be gone. Why not just get rid of the classics, and just do originals like they want to do anyway? They know they want to.

Retired at 35 is terrible. I tried to sit through the first two episodes and couldn't. Very sophomoric humor, in my opinion.

As for the new pilots, can we please stop with Fran Drescher. Egad! That woman is like fingernails on a chalkboard. There has to be a helluva lot more talented comedic actresses out there worthy of a series. The other two pilots...nothing interesting at all.

My theory about Hot in Cleveland is without Betty White, they have nothing. She totally carries the show. Malick, Leeves and Bertinelli...I can totally do without.

I liked Retired at 35 at first, but I agree, it's not that great. Neither are the ratings. It just seems very shallow and lacks creativity. I'm not too certain that it will come back for more than 10 episodes. Hot in Cleveland is much, much better. I like all three of the actresses but I agree that Betty carries the show.

I bet they will pick up the Fran Drescher show to go along with HiC when it comes back late spring/summer. The pilot that was called "Ex Men" sounds awful.

I too think that Hot In Cleveland will have better ratings in the summer. I'm not surprised that the first half of Season 2 is seeing lower ratings then Season 1. Like others have said, the show is actually up against broadcast network shows for the first half of Season 2.

Betty does carry the show but I love Wendie Malick and Jane Leeves. The one I could do without is Valerie. If the show gets renewed for a third season, I sure hope Betty signs on for all episodes again.

I love Fran and am excited to see her new show. I loved "Living with Fran," I think it was an under-appreciated show. If TV Land picks up more than one of these new comedies, they might bump HIC to 9pm to lead off a comedy night block. Who knows.

Official announcement for the 3 pilots (still no series pick-ups yet, though):

FRAN DRESCHER, RITA MORENO, DONALD FAISON, WAYNE KNIGHT,

KRISTEN JOHNSTON, CHRISTINE TAYLOR AND SHERRI SHEPHERD AMONG

HOLLYWOOD STARS SIGNED FOR TV LAND PILOTS

TAPING FEBRUARY 2011

New York, NY, February 8, 2011 -- Furthering TV Land’s expansion into the original sitcom landscape, the network announced today that it has signed several popular television and film actors to star in its three upcoming pilots. Fran Drescher (“The Nanny”), Tichina Arnold (“Everybody Hates Chris”), John Michael Higgins (“Best in Show,” “Kath & Kim”), D.W. Moffett (“Friday Night Lights”), Rita Moreno (“West Side Story”), Valente Rodriguez (“George Lopez”) and Robert Walden (“All The President’s Men”) will star in “Happily Divorced” based on Drescher’s life; Donald Faison (“Scrubs”), Wayne Knight (“Seinfeld,” ”Hot in Cleveland”), David Alan Basche (“The Starter Wife”) and Kristen Johnston (“3rd Rock From The Sun”) will headline an untitled Mark Reisman sitcom; and Christine Taylor (“Zoolander,” “Arrested Development”), Barry Watson (“Samantha Who?,” “7th Heaven”) and Sherri Shepherd (“The View,” “30 Rock”) will star in a comedy pilot by Terri Minsky tentatively titled “Rip City.” Anne Meara (“The King of Queens”) will guest star in Minsky’s show. All three pilots, which were previously announced in January, will be multi-camera and will tape in front of live audiences in February.

“TV Land is very dedicated to finding the next great sitcom for viewers in their 40s,” said Larry W. Jones, president, TV Land. “With the successes of ‘Hot in Cleveland’ and ‘Retired at 35,’ we feel that we are really honing in on what our audience craves – sitcoms with a classic feel with funny, relatable and contemporary story lines.”

Based on Fran Drescher’s real life, “Happily Divorced” centers around how Drescher deals with dating after finding out her husband is gay. The show focuses on how she juggles her relationship with her current boyfriend and ex-husband post-divorce. Rita Moreno and Robert Walden will play the main character’s parents, and Tichina Arnold will play the main character's best friend. John Michael Higgins, D.W. Moffett and Valente Rodriguez have also signed on for the pilot.

Faison, Knight, Basche and Johnston will star in this yet-to-be-titled Mark Reisman project. Created and executive produced by Reisman (“Frasier”), the multi-camera sitcom revolves around three divorced men who live in an apartment building together in which the landlord is a smart and sexy female divorce attorney.

Terri Minsky’s project (working title “Rip City”) stars Taylor, Watson and Shepherd and is a multi-camera office comedy taking place at Rip City Cola, a regional beverage manufacturer and distributor. When an Ivy League-educated female takes over as the boss, the entire office is shaken up, particularly a beloved executive at the company who long ago decided to forgo college in favor of working his way up the ranks at Rip City. Anne Meara (“The King of Queens”) is also slated to guest star in the pilot. It is written by Terri Minsky (“Less Than Perfect,” “Lizzie McGuire”) and executive produced by Michael Hanel (“Rita Rocks,” “Retired at 35”) and Mindy Schultheis (“Reba,” “Retired at 35”).

TV Land currently has two hit sitcoms on the air. The network’s first original sitcom, “Hot in Cleveland,” stars beloved actresses Valerie Bertinelli (“One Day at a Time”), Jane Leeves (“Frasier”), Wendie Malick (“Just Shoot Me”) and Emmy® Award-winner, Betty White (“The Golden Girls”). White most recently won Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Comedy Series at the 17th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards® for her role as Elka Ostrovsky on “Hot in Cleveland.” “Retired at 35” is TV Land’s second original sitcom and stars veteran actors George Segal and Jessica Walter and newcomers Johnathan McClain, Josh McDermitt and Ryan Michelle Bathe. Both shows are currently in premieres on Wednesdays at 10 and 10:30 pm ET/PT, respectively.

Is Retired at 35 really a "hit?" It's well below HiC. ELR episodes almost do as well as the last 35 premiere did sometimes.

I like the looks of "Rip City" now.

No it's not a hit.Since those press releases are written by TVLand/Viacom it's no surprise they are so misleading.Like all of TVLands original programs(with the exception of Hot In Cleveland),it's a big failure. I just looked at the Nielsen ratings and TVLands prime time line-up is not even among the top 25 cable stations. And it's funny because it's not like the other cable stations offer much in the way of competition.TVLand can't win, place or show in a 3 horse race.

I agree about Retired at 35. I got bored with the show after like 15 minutes. I am looking forward to Happily Divorced. I love Fran Drescher and The Nanny. Hopefully it will be as good as Hot in Cleveland.
