I was kind of curious about this--
I wonder there are more men or women here, and if said men/women are older or young.

So, if you feel comfortable, just put your age/sex.
I myself am a 20 year old male. I sadly wasn't old enough when a lot of these cases occurred to help, but I used to watch the show all the time around 1995-1996 (I remember it was during the height of the OJ Simpson trial so it definitely has to be '95-'96).

And I have watched UM since the Raymond Burr/Karl Malden specials.
I own the "Bizarre Murders" DVD set, but I can't recommend it as the video quality isn't that great.

UM was my favorite show through Middle and High school, I watched regularly until it was moved to Friday night. I later watched re-runs on Lifetime and continue to watch it today on Lifetime/Spike and the site that shall not be named. I own the Mysterious Legends DVD set (a gift) - although I don't think most of them are that mysterious when you actually look at the facts.

I used to watch Unsolved Mysteries with my parents and grandma when it was on NBC. Then, once it went to Lifetime, I watched it almost every day. One of the best and most productive shows ever in the history of television.

I'm a 23-year-old woman. I suppose I must have watched on NBC initially, when I was a very small child. I watched irregularly on Lifetime during junior high and high school. A few years ago, I decided to look up some episodes on that particular unnamed website, to see if they were still as scary as I remembered. They were, and I couldn't stop watching.

I love UM. There's nothing else like it.

I've been watching UM since it started in 1985 - A lotta kids my age at that time didn't watch true crime shows or whathaveyou. As the old saying goes, "truth is stranger than fiction" I have been ever hooked ever since. You couldn't make this stuff up - I'm referring to the unsolved homicide and missing person cases. I learned that there are times one has to observe unfortunate dark side of life to really appreciate what they have

Not to mention that the theme music really chilled me to my core!

Retired, grown kids, love goofing off as much as possible on the UM boards. :)

I got married in 1985 and moved to a place with only 1 tv station. By 1987, I bought a house and had access to normal tv. I started watching UM regularly around that time, and in the early 2000s I watched it almost daily on Lifetime.

I've been watching UM for over 10 years. Have over 30 VHS tapes filled with UM episodes, strictly from when it was originally aired on Lifetime. I want to convert my VHS tapes onto DVD but it would cost a fortune to have it done.

They actually sell VHS to DVD converters for relatively low prices. And it's not hard to do on your own.
You might want to look into that.

24 year old male. My parents used to watch UM so I kind of started watching in the early 90's, back when it used to air with Rescue 911. Then my grandmother and I would watch the lifetime reruns when they would air back-to-back episodes at eight and nine o'clock.

I thought the same exact thing when I saw your post. :D I hardly know anyone my age who watches the show. I've been a big fan since junior high. Sometimes one of my roommates turns on the new version, so I retreat into my room and watch the old one instead. ;)

Heh.
Yeah Dennis Farina is good at playing like Mafia guys and whatnot, but UM doesn't really suit him. Stack's creepy, serious voice is one of the big things that the made the show as eerily awesome as it was.

What are your favorite kind of stories--Supernatural, murders, missing persons, legends?

30 year old male. Been watching since the "missing time" segment aired back in the good ol' 80s. It was a weekly event at my grandparents house.

Favorite kinds of cases: I have gone back and forth with that over the years. When I was younger I preferred the unexplained cases over all. I still enjoy those but take them with a grain of salt - I will rarely say that anything is impossible- but I have grown up a lot and so has my point of view. These days I prefer the final appeals, missing persons, and unexplained deaths mostly.

Oh, that's a tough call. I loved it when the show aired because of the variety of the segments, but I have to admit I probably like the murder/missing persons segments the most. However, I still have a soft spot for the supernatural/legend and lost loves cases. Which do you prefer?

I have to disagree. I like Farina's handling of the material, some of which is,frankly, ridiculous. He has a steady delivery and he manages to pronounce the names of a number of places correctly. This was a major issue w/ me about Robert Stack. He mispronounced the names of several areas in a manner that wasn't necessary.

Personally, I'd like to see some new episodes made covering either newer cases or older cold cases that may have slipped through the cracks of the older programs.

For me the stories that really interest me are the Bizarre Murders/ Unexplained Deaths - (ya just can't make this stuff up!) followed by Missing Person stories

I really enjoyed seeing updates on UM and seeing cases solved and the guilty parties receiving their just due. That's actually the reason I joined this forum - to find out if any more cases have since been solved or had gotten some kind of update. It's also really cool I've met some really awesome folks on these boards along way

I agree with Guardian that, when I was a kid, I really dug the Unexplained cases but years later I'm kinda "meh" about 'em

I started watching UM the same season Stack began hosting. I believe that was 1986. In '88 my parents and I went to Disneyland, and I insisted on being able to watch UM in the hotel room on the evening it came on. It was on NBC Wednesday nights back then.

Nowadays I have episodes on my desktop, episodes backed up on DVD, and the Ultimate Collection that my husband got me for Christmas two years ago. I watch episodes on a regular basis.

I still don't know why I liked UM so much when I was a kid. I guess I just liked the creepy element, and Robert Stack was a bonus.
