Rezny@gmail.com 12-17-2010, 02:03 AM Perry Mason comes to mind.In 1964-1965 the late Raymond Burr almost called it quits(in 2 episodes that season Mike Connors and the late Barry Sullivan subbed),but was convinced to stay on for the remainder of the 1964-1965 season, and one more season,1965-1966.Know of any others?

comedyfreak 12-17-2010, 05:26 AM Friends was going to end after the 9th season but the cast was persuaded to do one more season. Each got a million per ep to do the 10th season.
MickeyMac 12-17-2010, 01:31 PM In the second season of Dallas Steve Kanaly was ready to leave because he felt the Ray Krebbs character had too small a role on the show. Larry Hagman persuaded him to stay, and the next season it was revealed that Ray was Jock Ewing's illegitimate son.
retrofan05 12-17-2010, 03:01 PM Bewitched. I believe Elizabeth Montogomery was ready to end the show after season 5 or 6 (I can't remember which) and Dick York of course did leave the show due to health issues. The ratings were still very good though, so ABC persuaded her to stay. I had heard that they wanted to do a 9th season too, but that never happened. I can't imagine what that would have looked like considering they were really struggling for material in season 8.
comedyfreak 12-18-2010, 01:45 AM Ms Montgomery also wanted out after season 7 but the network talked her into doing an 8th.

I have met a few cast members of "Bewitched." But not Mrs. Montgomery; I sure would have liked to have met her and Dick York.

jimpickens 12-18-2010, 09:07 PM Yeah I met Buck Owens one time and he said the reason he wanted to and eventually did leave was because he didn't like that the show was moving away from it's pure country root and was becoming more of a typical 70s variety show.
Rezny@gmail.com 12-18-2010, 09:10 PM I read in a TVGuide article a long time ago, that Andy Griffith was going to call it quits on "Matlock" when the 5th season ended, but NBC persuaded him to stay on.In fact, the article was called "Matlock:Case Closed".
70s show watcher 12-18-2010, 11:51 PM Yeah I met Buck Owens one time and he said the reason he wanted to and eventually did leave was because he didn't like that the show was moving away from it's pure country root and was becoming more of a typical 70s variety show.he did the right thing quitting in 1986 because the show just got worse and worse starting when ed gaylord got his greedy mitts on it
treky 12-19-2010, 12:17 AM Patrick Duffy wanted to leave "DALLAS" after, I think, the 7th season, and did but after one season without him Larry Hagman talked him into coming back.
Nichelle Nichols wanted to leave "STAR TREK" after the first season, but Martin Luther King talked her into staying.
mstewart 12-19-2010, 01:52 AM Ted Knight nearly quit The Mary Tyler Moore Show because he felt people was seeing him as Ted Baxter but the producers talked him into staying. Ted Baxter became a bit more human especially when the relationship with him and Georgette.
Bonnie Franklin nearly quit One Day At A Time because of the quality of the scripts during the first season. Glad she spoke when she did.
Rezny@gmail.com 12-20-2010, 09:57 PM And ,I read the late Lucille Ball wanted to quit "The Lucy Show",after the 1964-1965 season, but after a lot of (William S.)"Paley Palaver"(talk) .Paley convinced her to stay on.
Patrick Duffy wanted to leave "DALLAS" after, I think, the 7th season, and did but after one season without him Larry Hagman talked him into coming back.
Nichelle Nichols wanted to leave "STAR TREK" after the first season, but Martin Luther King talked her into staying.
MLK said that Uhura was one of the few positive/non stereotypical black role models on TV at the time.
Patrick Duffy's character was supposedly killed off but it was later revealed to be a dream by Victoria Principal's character (thus, meaning that the entire past season didn't really happened). This complicated things since sister show Knots Landing kept referencing Bobby Ewing's death and pretty much carried on as if it was canon.
i read somewhere where Mr.t was going quit the A Team during im sure it was the third season premier of judgement day but was talked in to staying in
Mr. T was pretty much arguably, the actual "star" of the show so it's easy to see why he was talked into staying.
megamanj2004 12-22-2010, 06:41 PM HUNTER - Fred Dryer reportedly almost walked away from HUNTER before the start of Season 3 unless his salary, reportedly $21,000 per episode, was raised and creative changes were made. Cannell hit back with a $20 million breach-of-contract suit. A compromise was reached, with Dryer reportedly landing a new deal worth US$50,000 per episode.
Silly Lily 12-23-2010, 04:03 PM How many times has Charlie Sheen threatened to quit Two and a Half Men? Gah, just let him go already!

The same thing with his first show. In both cases they should have let him move on.
