View Full Version : Would You Consider 'WKRP' A True Sitcom Classic OR Just A Former Hit Show?
Brian Damage 12-04-2010, 09:26 PM Do you think 'WKRP in Cincinnati' is a classic sitcom or just a former hit show of the late 70's & early 80's that is remembered fondly by its fans?

Dr. Thong 12-04-2010, 09:31 PM Classic. It was one of those great shows from the greatest sitcom era ever, IMO...the seventies. Well acted, well written, well everything!!;)
Marvo301 12-04-2010, 10:40 PM Well I certainly do remember this show fondly. But I would call it a classic. This show could go from the outright farce of "Turkeys Away" to the drama of "Who is Gordon Sims?" and do it all with aplomb. This was a well written show with interesting and humorous characters played by talented actors and actresses. And that adds up to classic.
catlover79 12-06-2010, 03:08 AM CLASSIC!!!!!!!! :D
MickeyMac 12-06-2010, 11:37 AM A classic for sure, especially considering what else was on during that time.
catlover79 12-06-2010, 11:45 AM WKRP had some of the best actors, writers and directors in the business at that time. CBS treated the show like crap - moving it all over their schedule. I guess it wasn't until the show hit syndication that it became a real cult classic.
cocytus 12-06-2010, 12:33 PM Classic show.
Extremely strong writing, excellent characterizations, well-acted by a great cast. It even had a good music.
This underrated (at the time) show is a must for anybody making a list of Top Ten sitcoms.
Heidi Dawn 12-23-2010, 01:28 PM It's a classic for me! I just wish that they would release the remaining episodes on DVD (I can live with the music changes).
dlemond 01-05-2011, 05:22 PM It is a classic.
Well written, great characters, very funny and smart.
Great ensemble acting as well.
When I first searched for episodes of the series back in 2001 I thought I might be disappointed- with pleasant memories prevailing over the actual quality.
But it was exactly the opposite. My memories didn't even do the show justice. I was incredibly happy to get to watch the whole series again.
It's my alltime favorite sitcom.
Now if it was just on DVD-complete and unedited.
Miss Lisa 02-23-2011, 11:36 PM Classic. I just wish that a few tv networks would view it as a classic and show it once in a while.
Yooch 02-24-2011, 02:56 AM In my opinion, a definite classic.
catlover79 02-24-2011, 03:14 AM I couldn't have said it better myself!! :D
MickeyMac 02-24-2011, 12:39 PM Only thing that doomed this show, were the network idiots.

Or as Jay Leno once said, "the TV nitwit executives".
Marvo301 02-24-2011, 03:41 PM The fact that were still talking about this show (and in such positive terms) almost 30 years after it ended it's original run indicates to me that it is definitely a classic!
