It also means there will be no special features and the cheapest possible packaging will be used. MickeyMac 10-09-2010, 01:53 PM It means this title will not be available in stores. That sucks biffbronson 10-10-2010, 03:22 PM I'll be interested in this, though I must say that it's past my favorite era of the series which had Edna Skinner and Larry Keating playing the Addisons. A shame though that it won't get better treatment. faraj 10-12-2010, 11:12 PM It means this title will not be available in stores. It can only be ordered directly from Shout Factory. Those are what I'm worried about. Why would they do this in the first place? MickeyMac 10-13-2010, 10:27 AM Uh oh. Hope it won't affect the CCing and the future releases for the last 2 seasons. Those are what I'm worried about. Why would they do this in the first place? Because they're idiots. 1960'sTVfan 10-13-2010, 11:48 AM It's possible this show undersold at retail, so they transferred the series to their Shout Select program. While I like many fantasy sitcoms of the 60's, a talking horse is a little too much for me. Mister Ed does have some funny moments, but I don't plan on having the show in my DVD library. Rambo Stallone 11-13-2010, 05:40 AM That sucks big time for overseas Marvo301 11-13-2010, 05:32 PM That sucks big time for overseas As a Canadian I have the same problem. However I've found that Shout Select titles can be purchased at sites like E-Bay and Amazon. And even for a very reasonable price if your willing to take the time to shop around a little and check out several vendors. So you would rather have the series completely abondoned?, I and several others on this board were instrumental in getting Brian Ward of Shout to start this exclusive site for niche series that simply don't sell well enough, do you know that companies have to pay for shelf space at stores such as best buy? As for your "no special features and the cheapest possible packaging" quote, all of their releases have been top notch, with color silk screening on the discs (paramount gave that up long ago) and come in standard amaray cases just like all other dvd releases and season 4 does have a special feature about mr ed selling US savings bonds..and are completely UNEDITED!...and every title I have bought off the site has arrived before the street date as I got Mister Ed 4 early....and yes shout has supplied a special amazon seller whom is affliated with them for those who don't wish to buy off the site...... so why so bitter? I'm not bitter. I'm just stating facts. The packaging for Shout Select titles is different than for titles released to stores. It was for Mr. Belvedere and Small Wonder and I'm sure it will be for Mr. Ed. And Shout Select titles don't have extra's like cast interviews, commentaries, cast commercials etc. I'd still rather have the show released this way than not at all. I guess I'm just frustrated that some shows get full series releases with all the bells and whistles (i.e. Leave it to Beaver) whereas other shows get quietly shuffled off to the Shout Select department. I would like them to treat all series with the same respect. I guess that's the fan in me talking! TeeVeeCloset 11-13-2010, 10:29 PM I'm not bitter. I'm just stating facts. I understand your point that if a series starts in a two slimline case with a cardboard wrap-around than changes half way through, they don't look the same on the shelf....but that is the fact that has happened to 90% of all series, look at season one of gomer pyle, happy days, etc and then towards the end. There is no difference to what paramount uses for their releases and shout select, most companies are giving up on slimline's and cardboard sleeves...and for the avid and passionate collector (in which it seems we both are) it is all about shelf space, so if I can have 4 dvd's in the same size case that a few years only one would be in, it is a welcome relief. As for beaver, it is all about the distributor, the first season was riddled with technical problems in the famous lunchbox, double sided discs and it took years for it to get a proper timely release. It is all a matter of taste but for a company like Shout & MPI (the leaders in classic tv in my humble opinion) we should be grateful.....who else would have released Small Wonder???? Also a lot of stuff online you cant buy without a credit card, and I dont have one. TeeVeeCloset 11-15-2010, 09:40 AM I am not bitter either. Some of us like to shop the old fashioned way: Going into a store and buying something. Not that I dont buy things online. Also a lot of stuff online you cant buy without a credit card, and I dont have one. That was the point...Stores like Best Buy, Boarders & FYE, just about the only stores left because they sent their own customers to their websites while in the store when they "didn't carry" a particular title....I repeat Best Buy and similar refused to give their precious shelf space to smaller companies like shout to carry their product without paying....by the way this is the way standard retail works....when you are in your local grocery store, on the end of the aisle where you see 100 coke bottles, do you think that is out of the good gracious of the store?, no it is called "product placement" or "point of purchase".....the companies pay for that eye candy space, same for magazines. Next time go into Best Buy and look for the FOX & HBO Series isles....so if Shout after manufacturing a niche series can't afford to manufacture the series and then pay for the shelf space....they created the online exclusives with a push from some members here at sitcoms....I also repeat from other posts....these online exclusives will DOUBLE OR TRIPLE in value over the years as collectors items because they were sold and manufactured in limited numbers.....try and buy any out of print series lately off amazon? Lost In Space, Doogie Howser? I really suggest if you like the series, support this endevor with more than "That Sucks"...not pointed at anyone in particular. However since I don't live in the U.S. (I'm Canadian) it is difficult for me to purchase Shout Select titles. Shout Factory (unless things have recently changed) don't accommodate international orders on their website. This means I have to find a vendor on E-Bay or Amazon who is selling the title and who will ship it internationally (not all vendors will!). This just adds to my frustration with titles being released through the Shout Select program. I have the same issues with WB's on demand releases. They only ship to U.S. addresses as well. I understand your fustration but I have gone to the amazon canada website and bought many titles that aren't available in the US like "The Hilarious House Of Frightenstein" (childrens 70's canadian series) and had no problem.....So you would think that you could go on amazon US and buy from the official Shout seller that is on there....or simply have a friend in the US buy it for you and ship it to you....yes it could cost a bit more with the US/Canadian dollar exchange rate but if you want the series it seems like a logical way to go.....good luck to you sincerely! Rambo Stallone 11-16-2010, 02:49 PM The problem isn't cheap packaging it's the format.I read some season sets of series are getting pressed on DVD R.DVD R are very poor disc the slight mark or dust it doesn't read. They also hard to look after. No Company should be releasing material on DVD R or CDR. I was annoyed i bought a CD from a old 80s band that was pressed on CDR that wasn't mentioned on their site. Plus you can look at the item and get the good one without any dents on it.The way something get shipped you amazed the actual DVD isn't snapped in half after the box is dented after someone sat on it and no padding to protect it. I wouldn't buy anything on Amazon if it' through a second/Third party done that and been screwed with Music Stack.I guess it's OK if it's offered on the Amazon site list price but not buy from these customers. The best bet would be ebay at least it's safer with PAYPAL not going through other channels. You quoted me but obviously didn't bother to read it, (no wonder the internet is full of false information) as stated the Amazon second party is an employee and hired by Shout to provide the dvd's....so no one will be ripped off....as for your other opinion of Amazon.....they are one of the best when it comes to shipping carefully...they actually re-shrinkwrap the dvd around another piece of cardboard....I too am very fussy about having dvd plastic hubs cracked or damaged, so I understand.....I am now done with posting on this thread....you either want the series or you don't, this is my approx. 5th post in this thread detailing nothing but factual information about how retail works and it seems some just don't get it, understand it, or just want to complain. I guess the people who complain would rather have this thread called "Why has Mister Ed been abandoned?" Rambo Stallone 01-12-2011, 07:07 AM Who is the seller on Amazon selling this as i don't see any at all.Their some guy on ebay selling it for $40 that not including shipping. This is very pricey compare to others and it would be shocking if they on DVD R as i have no clue as they shrink wrapped. The price is high but if they come out say they are not DVD R it's o.k if that's the case. For those who care or are having problems getting studio "on-demand" DVD's including Shouts, the very reputable company with its own catalog and website Critics' Choice Video www.ccvideo.com is now offering them all.......as for the exclusive Shout affliated employee selling on amazon, just check the feedback (I forget his name right now) but $40 is approx the same price as the Shout Store, the shipping may be different. Thanks for that i purchased Season 4 of MR ED.The Set is over 11 hours and most importantly looks uncut and not on DVD  R junk. The best thing also not a custom case they never come perfect in mail no matter how packed.Their is one small promo as special feature but as long as the series is uncut who cares it's just a bonus.I get the other 3 Seasons now possibly. I hope their a bonus video feature of a recent Alan Young interview and one of Connie before she died.I hope they make a smart move to release 5 and 6 together in a 39 episode package even if it's a little higher.I hope someone could pick up Perfect Strangers and complete that series.I have too say The Dick Van Dyke sets are one of the most ridiculous box sets I've ever bought a massive box that holds 5 keep cases. These sets are so wrong. |
