That was the words of a critic who denounced LHOTP as "Cheesy" & "Preachy"! Do you think Little House became to preachy? It certainly wasn't cheesy. I don't think a baby being burned to death can be categorized as cheese. Do you???

Well, some of the stories DID border on the melodramatic, but I think this critic was a bit harsh.

and sometimes it looked more like a parody of the actual little house books and the real ingals family but that was part of its charm no one could have pulled it off the way michael landon and company did .i know little house puraists liked the abc mini sereis and thats fine but give me landon;s overacted verison any day

No way.

The difference between Little House On The Prairie, and an Afterschool Special, was:

Little House had excellent production values.

Little House had excellent actors.

Little House had excellent writers.

And,

Little House wasn't afraid to praise God.

Amen. Also, the 'Afterschool Specials' didn't have the wacky Olesons.

"NELS!!!!!!!" "MOTHER!!!!!!" I always felt sorry for poor, henpecked Nels. Then of course, you have Willie, who eats the family out of house and home. Of course, when Nellie leaves town, you get the psychotic Nancy.

I think he killed himself in real life, if I'm not mistaken.

Don "Red" Barry did kill himself. He committed suicide in 1980 by shooting himself.

That's what I thought - thanks for confirming it.
