View Full Version : Did Aunt Clara Die?.
snelson 08-11-2010, 10:49 AM since marion lorne died i was wondering if the character of clara died. let's face it she was very old her powers were waning. i'm glad she wasn't replaced no one could have filled her shoes not even alice ghostley. i must say alice did a pretty funny job mimicking clara.
catlover79 08-11-2010, 11:20 AM After Marion Lorne died, the character of Aunt Clara was never heard from nor mentioned again. I guess they felt it would be better that way, and hired Alice Ghostley to play a similar character.
old grouch 08-11-2010, 04:23 PM Do witches die???
snelson 08-11-2010, 04:25 PM yes they do they can live for 4000 years.
DemandYourPickle 08-11-2010, 11:15 PM No, that's silly. Aunt Clara perhaps just decided not to pop in as much...perfecting her skills, I suppose...a Bewitched character wouldn't die! Trust me, I know.

Or if they did, the show of course would never say.
Larry Tate 08-12-2010, 11:27 AM Oh Aunt Clara visited all the time, as much as she ever did, it was just always during the week in between our once a week glimpses into Darrin & Samantha's home on 1164 Morning Glory Circle in Westport Conn.
Larry Tate :)
old grouch 08-12-2010, 02:19 PM 60's sitcoms dealt with an actor's death by not dealing with it. When an actor died, they were either off visiting relatives or were just never mentioned ever again. Just look at 'Petticoat Junction' for example. It wasn't until the 70's when TV characters were allowed to die after the actor who portrayed them also died.
Jude The Obscure 08-12-2010, 02:36 PM I posted on this previously....Bewitched never discussed the subject of death directly. I prefer to think that Clara simply went on to another dimension.

That's right. Dennis the Menace is another good example of this.

So do I.
comedyfreak 08-13-2010, 01:22 AM . i must say alice did a pretty funny job mimicking clara.
I don't think she mimicked her at all, she was a different character. Esmarelda was shy and faded when nervous or things popped in when she sneezed and she didn't have any confidence. Clara had confidence her powers gave her trouble due to her age.

Exactly. She was a bit scatterbrained but I think that's where the similarities end. Well, that and they almost always screwed their spells up.

Esmeralda sure did, and she wasn't even old!!
missy's pop pop 12-28-2013, 09:28 PM The producers felt that no one could replicate Aunt Clara the way Marian Lorne did, so they wrote in Esmerelda as the new bumbling witch after Adam was born (you'll remember Alice Ghostley and Dick Sargent joined the cast in 1969-70).
Even after "Bewitched" left the air--and Alice Ghostley found new success on "Designing Women," she still signed her autographs as
"Best Witches, Alice Ghostley."
