to see if they sold well?

I'd certainly buy all 3.

I own the Unsolved Murders and UFO dvd's but have held off on buying the others due to the fact that maybe one day the full seasons will be released. I can only hope.....

Yeah, they should've done it that way in the first place. Like 1988-1993 or so (the pre-Keely years), also since even though those are the oldest, they're the most iconic and memorable ones for most fans.

Even though Stack didn't quite live long enough to see the majority of DVD releases (I'd say most tv shows didn't start coming out en masse until '04/05 or so) and therefore couldn't have done the commentaries, it would've been even neater to have some commentary or even just more notes on all the cases. Even if they hadn't been solved, just any leads that could possibly have helped. Also, maybe releasing some old interviews with RS as a bonus feature.

I bet those would sell better than the existing sets did, even if they decided to do so now.

Cosgrove/Meurer, last I knew. And they don't seem too willing to do so. About a year ago, a 12 disc, 92 episode box set showed up on Amazon, and it was official. It was supposed to be released last October. When the release date came and went, I sent them an email. I got a reply saying that "not enough stores showed an interest," so they weren't going to bother. Right. They obviously don't check this site, because they'd see that there is a market for it. I replied, asking if it was a possibility for the future, and never got a response.

Yeah, but we're only a handful of people. I actually get teased by my husband and other friends by watching reruns now. They all say the show was neat when it was airing, but sadly I just don't think it's one a lot of people would add to their movie rack. We can always hope, though!

Sadly, it's a numbers game, and I don't think there is enough perceived interest for them to do this.

Unfortunately, I don't think that a season by season set would even sell 1000 copies. There just aren't enough UM fans out there for it to be economical for the copyright owners to create season sets. Also, it seems that the compilation discs they have released thus far didn't sell too well, so they might see it as a huge gamble with no real payoff to release UM season by season.

I've said this before on other threads, but I also wonder if legal issues would prevent them from releasing the episodes in truly "unedited" first run broadcast form. There are many, many stories that were never shown again on Lifetime or Spike after they aired on NBC. There has to be a reason for that ie lawsuits, threats of lawsuits, families/victims requesting their story not being shown after it was solved etc.

I wish they would put the original versions on DVD season sets but I just don't see that happening. I don't think the demand is there on a large scale although I hope I'm wrong.

just the fact so many cases could be solved if ppl could watch them again...

I'm with you on this and I think the blame lands squarely on Cosgrove-Muerer's terrible business decisions.

Unsolved Mysteries was a show that used to finish in the top 10 of the weekly Nielsens with regularity in the early 90s and has developed a rabid, albeit small, fan base who followed the show from network to network. This decade has seen the American television viewing public go gaga over forensic criminology, criminal profiling, and true crime non-fiction narratives. There are channels solely devoted to such shows now. If they can't find a way to market their product to grab some of that pie that is their own fault and it smacks of a company woefully inept. They royally screwed the pooch ((no offense to dog lovers out there)) with this SpikeTV UM revamp. The whole "no new episodes but re-releases of the old ones" was a try for some of the aforementioned market, a try to get some sort of buzz going for DVD releases, but its been a horrible failure. As evidenced by the comment above regarding no merchant interest. Whoever they gave the keys to on the Spike TV thing flat out ruined whatever momentum they could have got going with the horrible choices they made trying to "hip it up" for a new audience.

Corky, I agree with you 100%. CM screwed up royally throwing the "Cool Version" of UM at us on Spike. If they would've thought about it for more than five seconds, they could've done something incredibly cool. They should've tried to make the fans of the ORIGINAL UM happy and go from there, and gain fans, instead of making the Super Cool Guy edition and ignoring their original fanbase.

I find CM to be quite arrogant people. They refuse to release any more UM DVDs or regularly release new eps. Yet, if someone posts a vid on YouTube god forbid! They are quick to report anyone who is just sharing what should be available on DVD.

Hmmmm...might be interesting. Were you able to track down an episode listing for this? I might take a gamble...

Maybe one day in the future they will put UM on Netflix Instant Watch or something like that so they wouldn't have to worry as much about market demand.

sdb please let me know when that company tells you they have the DVD's in stock, I would love to get a copy myself. I'm really trying to get a hold of the Dennis DuPue episode. Anyone care to help me out?

It would be nice if they released more DVD sets and/or uploaded them on the internet, as many countries don't have access to the show and/or can't buy the pre-existing DVD sets. I wish they would give that some thought. I also wish they'd come out and tell us why they won't release and upload anything after repeated yet understandable resquests.

No problem, I will. They have offered a refund for the DVD's also but still waiting on that.

It's very weird, some of these DVD sites offer these dvds but it doesn't seem like it's a massive release or anything.

Those DVDs made me suspicious, so I went to tvshowsondvd.com and noticed that they are not listed under the UM DVD history. My conclusion: Either those particular DVDs were produced outside the US (and are probably incompatible with US DVD players), or they are unauthorized releases.

Even if the online store says they will give you a refund, there is no guarantee that you will eventually get one, no matter how disappointed you are with the product(s). In other words, if you're going to buy any of those DVDs, you will be doing so at your own risk.

These DVDs are the ones already released by first look but have them bundled in 3 "seasons" instead of 5 or 6 sets. Best I've seen for Unsolved Mysteries is the 16 disc compilation ppl have transferred from VHS which is what I have.

I didn't want to post links but if u look closely at those 3 boxed seasons you can see what's on them. Third season set is miracles, physics & treasures. I don't know if it's a clever way to disguise these to fool people or the way they looked outside of US release.

Hope this helps people.

That's exactly what it looks like to me too. They took 2 sets, put them together and just wrote season on the front, like they're trying to trick you into thinking you're buying something new. Look at the front cover of "season one," it says GHOSTS and BIZARRE MURDERS.

26 episodes of Unsolved Mysteries aired during season one. At an average of 4 segments per episode, that would equal to around 104 segments. If someone was buying a TRUE season, the DVD sets would be much bigger than what is shown in those pictures.

http://www.nicedvder.com/2646_Unsolved-Mysteries-complete-seasons-1-3-DVD-box-set-ENGLISH-VERSION.html

This site is selling the new "seasons" set for $30, and provides close-ups of the front and back covers of the DVDs.
Apparently, these are absolutely repackaged versions of the previously released sets, broken up as follows:
"Season 1": Ghosts and Bizarre Murders
"Season 2": UFOs and Strange Legends
"Season 3": Miracles and Psychics

The only positive point to these new releases are some extras that are included:
Audio Commentary (which could be both enlightening and amusing, depending on the content,) a tribute to Robert Stack (awesome!) and a behind the scenes special about UM's 150th solved case.

Overall, a 19 disc set that has what is likely a single disc's worth of previously unreleased material. For $30 it is not too bad of a deal, granting that your do not expect to get actual seasons of the show. I am considering picking this up myself. Even though I already have copies of each of the sets, I am interested in the extras.
Also, considering that I have absolutely zero luck obtaining any UM through this message board (people must think I am a narc/shill for cosgrove, perhaps because years back when first I joined I committed the ultimate taboo of offering to purchase any segments/episodes from people that had no interest in any of the terabytes of data I have for possible trade??) this new set, sadly may be my only recourse of adding to my meager, ultra low resolution UM collection.

FYI, these extras were also on the original DVD sets, so if you already own those, this set won't provide any new content.

Yeah looks like it's just a re-hash with a couple of extras thrown in. Pretty disappointing but hey we've come to expect that from Cosgrove-Meuer in recent years.

This does not surprise me in the least.

I do have copies of each of the segments from those previous sets, but the extras would at least be new to me; I still may get this consolidated set.

After years of only being able to find the low res bootleg set with it's haphazard organization and seemingly random edits, all I want to find is full, uncut episodes. I know there are more than a few people out there with them, but obtaining copies for myself has basically proved impossible thus far.

I should make my own Unsolved Mystery segment about how incredibly difficult it is to find decent copies of these episodes, be it from hoarding fans or the actual copyright holders, haha!

Does anyone know how I can obtain a copy of the Unsolved Mysteries, Season 2, episode 11? Looking for the Lee Selwyn murder case that was aired on Jan 11, 1989. Thanks.
