Trying to remember a case here. My memory of most cases I have seen only once is usually better than this. As I watched UM on Lifetime often, I think it's safe to say this case was not aired very much.

The case involved a (I think) wife and husband. The man was killed in their home late one night. The wife said it was an intruder, but there was evidence that she may have been the killer.

I feel that this was a newer case, possibly a CBS or even a new Lifetime version. At the very least it had the newer look to the film that the later episodes did (why I remember that and not more details, I don't know).

Also, I feel for some reason that this case took place in the Southwest. Anyone have any ideas?

Another thing is that the crime was committed with a gun. There was also some odd detail being brought up about the gun. I really wish I could remember more. It's frustrating.

Are you certain this was on UM?

I do remember a case somewhat like this. The husband and wife were coming home late from somewhere (cant remember where). The husband was a cop. Anyway, the husband went in the house first while the wife and child stayed behind in the car. No sooner than he walked in, gunshots were heard. The husband was shot dead. The wierd thing about it was that one of the investigators at the scene made a comment about the look on the guy's face as if he was surprised at whoever it was that shot him. Unless new developments came up in this case, I don't think the wife was ever ruled a suspect.

I wish I could think of this cop's name. It was one of the cases featured on Crystaldawn's dvds.

He was Deputy Sheriff Charles Robert Anderson. He was murdered in January 1987.

I don't recall any specific mention in the segment about the wife being considered a suspect (or even a person of interest). But I recall from the segment that she'd had some physical issue (a back injury, if I'm correct), which explained why she waited outside while Charles brought their young son into the house.

I don't know if this is the case you're actually referring to, Guardian, but it was shown during the 1993-94 season.

Do you remember which one? I remember the segment, faintly, but I watch CD's dvds AT LEAST weekly and I haven't seen that segment in a looooong time.

I would agree it sounds like the Charlie Anderson case. A very interesting theory about this case is that it may tie into another UM segment - the Final Appeal of Dan Montecalvo. I have read the book about the Montecalvo case and I believe a nearby drug addicted neighbor of theirs was responsible for the murder. The book also mentions that just a few blocks away from the house where Carol Montecalvo was murdered was Charlie Anderson's case and some people think the same drug addicted neighbor may be responsible for his murder as well. She is mentally ill though and really can't believe the things she says unfortunately.

I had forgotten about that case but have since reviewed it to be certain. It unfortunately is not the case I am referring to. The case I am referring to, the man was killed almost right inside the doorway of the home. I feel kind of dumb that i can't remember more detail about this, but I know for a fact that it was UM. Up until just the last year or so, that was really the only true crime show I ever watched.

In the segment, the wife or girlfriend (which ever she was) seemed very guilty to me when interviewed. They showed a couple of reenactments of the different theories of what happened and i am pretty sure a gun was involved. For some reason the gun really sticks out to me. There was something odd about it in the way of evidence. Also, if i remember correctly, in the reenactment, there was a vesterbule (not sure if I spelled that correctly) of sorts in the inside of the house.

As i am typing this, I can remember vague images from the reenactment, but not enough to describe in detail. One of those weird things where if I saw the segment again, I would instantly recognize it. I hope somebody on here can help. This is driving me nuts.

Also, I could be wrong, but the talk of "neighbors" in one of the replies got me thinking a little more. I am thinking that the wife may have been having an affair with either a friend of the victim, or a neighbor. The neighbor may have also been a suspect. It also seems that for some reason I had the impression that the area they lived in was not the most wealthy or crime free area I had ever seen.

Could it be the Charlie Sigmin case? He was estranged from his wife Ann Sigmin. Ann lured him over to her house late one night with threats of suicide. Charlie had even thought of bringing a gun but decided not to and told his friends before he left "I may be getting set up here". Charlie went to see Ann and her boyfriend Gary Goff was also there. Charlie ended up getting shot numerous times and killed and there was also a bloody iron at the house. After some investigation police determined it wasn't self defense as Goff had claimed and he eventually turned himself in and received a prison sentence. Ann Sigmin is still on the run and wanted for his murder. Btw Ann Sigmin also was a satan worshipper and this was mentioned in the segment and appeared to be a main reason she and Charlie broke up.

Very doubtful. Guardian mentioned that the segment in question featured an interview with the victim's wife/girlfriend. The Charlie Sigmin case had no such interview since Ann Sigmin was on the run at the time of the segment's broadcast during the 1988-89 season.

Similar case, but no, still not it. I just saw that one on Spike a few days ago so I know that is not it. I will continue to punch myself in the head until I can come up with more details. This is really starting to bug me now.

If you saw it on Spike, then it's a good bet that the case is listed at the official UM website (unsolved.com), probably under "Murder" or "Unexplained Death". Looking for it at the website (if it is listed there) might be your best hope putting the nagging uncertainty to rest.

No, Guardian was referring to the Sigman case as the one seen on Spike, recently. Not the one we're trying to figure out. :)
Or at least that's how I understood it.

Yup, that was what I meant. Sorry for the confusion. I also just went through the Unsolved website and I don't see anything like what I am talking about.

I promise this isn't a wild goose chase. I know it was an UM segment. The segment was just not shown that often. I remember that the reenactment had the murder taking place at night. The house may have been a duplex, but i am not certain of that. It was relatively secluded either way. The man was killed in the entry way. The wife/girlfriend was the most likely suspect as I recall, but she had not been charged with anything. There was something peculiar about the weapon used in the slaying, but I don't recall what it was. I am also thinking that the wife/girlfriend may have been at least part hispanic or native american.

On the surface of course it sounds like many of the UM segments unfortunately.

Are you thinking of Maria Armstrong? She was part hispanic or native american. She murdered her boyfriend but I think she was not right in the head. It was a weird case

If you are refering to the case where she left his body under some pillows in his apartment and he was found several days later, no that is not it. I meant to clarify that in my last post but it slipped my mind. I believe that case was solved though if I am not mistaken.

Ya they solved that case. She was captured but only convicted of 2nd degree murder but they could have got 1st

I am currently going through my Unsolved mysteries recorded off tv dvds in hopes of finding the case I am talking about. I am certain it is on there somewhere as i believe I have most of the segments that were shown on Lifetime (finding individual cases is a pain however). But so far in my search I have come to the conclusion that Lifetime showed the Gilbert Ortiz segment at least three times a week for about two years. Why do they like that one so much?

That man took Jonathan!

I don't know. The case plot is a lot like their shoddy, stereotypical, melodramatic made-for-tv movies, though, so maybe that's why. :p

Lifetime movies are so very damaging to women as a whole. Like women's magazines, they're designed to play on stereotypes and insecurities, both feminine AND masculine ones. I remember seeing this woman on one of those stand-up show on television do a bit on it--it went something to the effect of "Lifetime: Television for Women?!? How?!? We're always getting stabbed, or going crazy, or eating half the pantry and puking it back up!"

Absolutely. I had a friend who was addicted to Lifetime movies. She used to watch them just because of the sheer campiness of them. I have to say, they are great to do an MST3K with. :D

Wow, I remember seeing the Ortiz case a lot back then. I always thought it was just bad luck seeing it as often as I did.

If you're watching tapes from the later years of the show, you'll probably notice that the order is pretty haphazard. When Lifetime began showing UM, the episodes were mostly in chronological airdate order. As the years went on, their tapes must have become disorganized as it was almost random as to what they would show.

I remember another time when they seemed fixated on Resurrection Mary and repeated that one ad nauseam.

Yeah, that was my freshman year of college. I looked forward to catching UM between classes and used to get so frustrated at seeing Resurrection Mary yet again on the screen. For some reason I remember that "mystery hum" segment getting played a lot more than usual, too, but maybe that was just my luck.

At least Ms. Thiessen got away from that, and is now in a legit show where she's married to an FBI agent.

As for Gilbert Ortiz and Resurrection Mary, they've got nothing on Cokeville. It seemed like every freaking day for about 3 months that damn case would be shown. It wouldn't be shown for a month, and then it would come roaring back.

Still no. While they were still showing (well, I guess they are starting them again this week) UM on Lifetime, I Tivo'd both episodes every day fo over a year. So I have quite the collection on DVD now. Trouble is with over 100+ discs, I would burn several at a time and just quickly label them "Unsolved Mysteries". I have started a side project over the years of cataloging them, but it has always been a back burner thing. I haven't been on the board much lately because I have been diverting time to searching my discs.

Still no luck. I am certain it was UM, but I am not 100% certain that I have that segment either. I am continuing my search...

Well that's a bummer. I was hoping someone would come up with the answer for you.

I've got 12 or 13 dvds of UM that I've been cataloging here and there over the past few months. It is very time consuming. You've really got your hands full with 100 discs! Hopefully, you'll finally run across the segment you're looking for. Let us know! :)

Everyone else... anything in this thread giving you an idea of which case this was? There are so many that it's similar to. I went through my dozen DVDs and I don't think I have this one.

Found it yesterday!!! Finally! Totally dumb luck too. I haven't had a ton of time lately to keep going through all of my discs, but luckily my girlfriend was nice enough to set our DVR to tape the lifetime airings of UM and low and behold the case I was looking for came on.

I apologize, but it seems I had a few facts wrong as I had only seen the case once several years ago. I think I got some elements mixed up with a couple of other cases. The big mistake on my part? It was the wife that was killed. Not the husband. The husband was on a final appeal segment. His name is Dan Montecalvo.

That was bugging me for the longest time. I could picture their house in my mind, but somehow had forgotten that it was the wife and not the husband that was killed. I remembered that the neighbor played a key role in the case, but couldn't remember how. Also, I remembered there being an issue with the gun(s) used in the crime, but couldn't remember what it was.

Funny how the mind works huh? Dang. I am glad thats figured out. I have been going nuts trying to remember that one. Now if they will just air the UHAUL case so i can get a copy of it...
