Crime Beat Ohio - A woman in Alliance has an emergency - she needs a husband. Audrey Scott made the odd request on an emergency call as she decided to dial 911 for assistance. Bad idea.

Audrey Scott spent time in jail for calling 911 five times in one hour from her home in Alliance demanding some help in finding a husband.

ABC has a video report and reveals how the conversation unfolded. The emergency operator asks the desperate woman to repeat her request: "You need to get a husband?"

"Yes," Scott responds. Christi Klimes has been fielding 911 calls for 21 years and asked the woman point blank: "You're calling 911 to get a husband? Do you know you can get arrested for dialing 911?"

She fires back: "Let's do it."

"You want to get arrested for dialing 911?"

"Absolutely."

Problem solved, the authorities obliged. Scott spent three days in jail on a class 4 misdemeanor.

Did she find a guy while she was in jail? Perhaps the arresting officer or some other drunk spending time in the local jail?

I'd hate to think she went to all that trouble for nothing.

I think there needs to be a serious re education of the American public on the function of the 911 service. Not putting the right ingredients in a hamburger, needing a husband, etc...? What the hell are people thinking?

ALLIANCE, Ohio (AP) — A northeast Ohio woman spent three days in jail for calling the 911 emergency line five times seeking a husband.

The dispatcher, familiar with odd calls, was flabbergasted and asked Audrey Scott of Alliance, "You need to get a husband?"

The 57-year-old Scott responded, "Yes."

Scott was warned that she could face arrest for misusing 911 and responded, "Let's do it."

She was convicted last week of improper use of the 911 system and was sentenced to the three days in jail, which she had already served since her arrest. Seven additional days were suspended if she stays out of trouble for a year.

After her release, Scott blamed the incident on drinking. There is no phone listing for Scott, who could not be reached for additional comment Wednesday.

OH Nuts!

The woman should have made a 2nd call to 911 - to request a brain!

As God as my witness, I'll never be desparate again!!! Seriously lady, you get a husband with class; not a shot glass (or a cell or a police record).

ALLIANCE, Ohio - Calls are supposed to be made to 911 for emergencies only, but an Alliance woman called looking for a husband.

Audrey Kay Scott is going through a divorce and trying to stay sober. She says the last five weeks have been rough. Last week when she moved into a new apartment, Audrey, who friends call Kay, decided to celebrate.

"I drank too much vodka and I got lonely and sad because all my friends are with my husband now and I have no family," she said.

In a blurry state of mind, the lonely 57-year-old picked up her phone and dialed 911.

Her call to Alliance Police went like this.

Caller: "Get me that husband"

Dispatcher: "You need to get a husband?"

Caller: "Yes,"

Dispatcher: "You're calling 911 to get a husband? Do you know you can get arrested for dialing 911?"

Caller: "Let's do it."

Dispatcher: "You want to get arrested for dialing 911?"

Caller: "Absolutely."

Kay went on to even thank the dispatcher when she said she would send a police officer to her apartment. According to the police report, when the officer arrived to ask her what was wrong she replied, "I don't know."

Alliance police say Kay called five times. She was arrested for abusing the 911 system.

"The officer said you cannot abuse the system we have serious things to respond to and this is not one of them and he said you need to learn this lesson, so I went to prison and I wouldn't trade any of it for anything in the world," Kay said.

Kay admits she was drinking and says she was looking for her husband, not a love connection. She says she should have instead asked for the crisis hotline.

She spent three days in jail before appearing in court. The judge ordered her to attend alcoholics anonymous meetings, which she is attending daily.

Kay says she is sorry she called 911, but says her drunk dial ultimately pushed her toward the straight and narrow.

I'm glad she is now getting the help she needs. It's a shame she had to go to such extremes before getting help though.

She's suffering from a broken heart, chose to self-medicate and did a stupid thing - but I hope and pray she will recover fully.
