Not really impressive. Andy Griffith shouldn't even air on Sundays because they repeat pretty much the SAME episodes at almost the same times that they aired on Saturday. No other show to my knowledge is done that way.

I can't believe I'm saying it, but I almost hope they don't renew Good Times. Maybe the void left on the schedule from it will prompt them to bring Hogan's or Beaver back which haven't gotten as much airplay in recent years.

Is Nanny still slated for August? I forgot about that....if so, slide Raymond to 8-10pm, Nanny 10-11pm, and Roseanne 11pm-12am.

I love Good Times and would like to see it get renewed to continued to be exposed to audiences. However, anyone who gets TV One knows that the episodes are uncut on there...so I for one don't really watch it on TV Land.

If Good Times goes...it would be cool to see
9am- Leave it to Beaver
10am- Hogan's Heroes
11am- The Beverly Hillbillies
and just leave AITF & S/S for evenings

But I have a feeling they will add another hour of westerns before they do that.

I'm not sure why they even renewed Beaver a year ago? I think maybe so they could have it for their online full episodes section.

The 2nd classic is slated for September, I believe, which may shake things up a bit. It's more than obvious that it is "I Dream of Jeannie" so it will more than likely be paired with "Bewitched".

Wow, Tv land really is sucking again. They're back to their greedy ways. They might've gotten rid of an hour of infomercials, but running shows off the clock again? Please. No other channel does this. It's owned by Viacom, they especially don't need to do extra commercials or anything. How are people supposed to tape or watch these shows? How do they expect anyone to watch when they do that? And there's still some infomercials where some classic shows should be and always used to be.

And WAY too heavy on movies and westerns. Too many originals too. I guess the westerns get good ratings, but they shouldn't be aired so disproportionately much because of that. They've forgotten that they're supposed to be about tv, not movies. Because of that, fans of other shows suffer, especially if they're only aired late at night.

I'll still give Hot In Cleveland a try, but I'm mostly watching other channels these days and I'm rapidly losing hope in this channel. If I like a show and it's on another channel as well, I'll usually watch or tape the other channel. It's so badly run these days with so many bad programming decisions. Amazing it's not off the air yet.

Yeah...I'd really rather see them ADD an extra hour of Paid Programming than do the whole off the clock crap.

Ever since PRIME launched in late 08, I've been trying to enjoy all the classics I like on there...because it is only a matter of time.

It just seemed as if this network was going in an upward swing with all of these additions like ELR, HI, Nanny. But Home Improvement is unfortunately a bust :( and now off the clock again!!!??? That's possibly the most annoying thing. How can they find it useful? OMG....

I'm afraid, gang, the good old days of TVLand are gone. And why did they do this "off-the-clock"bit again. They did it before and it didn't work. And why in the world did they squish the end credits ( I know, they all do it,but not like TVLand)and severely edit their series?

It looks like Good Times isn't being renewed. Checked the Schedule page for 7/1/10 on tvland.com and there is a change and no Good Times in sight...however further exploring shows that this change starts next Monday (6/14)

Tuesdays - Fridays:
9:30am- Sanford and Son (replaces Good Times)
10:00am- Sanford and Son (replaces Good Times)
10:30am- Gunsmoke (replaces Sanford and Son x2)

Weekdays:
12pm- Bonanza (replaces Gunsmoke)
1pm- Bonanza
2pm - 5pm- The Andy Griffith Show (replaces Bonanza x3)

(the week of 6/28 shows the morning schedule on the clock with a 2nd All in the Family at 9 and Sanford and Son at 10am/10:30am....but that will likely change).

So the last airing for Good Times is probably this Friday at 9:30am/10am (approx times).

Andy Griffith coming back to weekdays is great news but an odd time. This will be interesting, because TV Land has not aired sitcoms in the afternoons since...twice as nice? It's been westerns in the 2, 3, and usually 4pm hours for years. Also, it is interesting seeing how Gunsmoke is gradually being downplayed.

I was hoping that the departure of Good Times would force them to bring one of the benched shows back. Looks like I was wrong. There is no point in airing AiTF and S&S in the mornings. They really should do this (remove off-the-clock):

8:00AM-9:00AM Leave It to Beaver
9:00AM-10:00AM Hogan's Heroes
10:00AM-11:00AM The Beverly Hillbillies
11:00AM Gunsmoke

Tvland's so boring. I don't care about Good Times, but they might as well just call it the Andy Friffith/Gunsmoke/Bonanza channel already. I have no idea why those shows are still such hits. They play them way too much.

Sad to see The Brady Bunch and Good Times now gone. I was thinking they'd just return the morning marathons to how they were before late April when The Brady Bunch and Good Times departed and just wanted to give those shows some final airtime. But I guess maybe Leave it to Beaver, Hogan's Heroes, The Beverly Hillbillies were not doing so well.

Seems like they mainly want to focus on the blockbuster shows during the daytime- TAGS, Bonanza, Sanford and Son, etc...

Andy is likely a good lead-out of the westerns and good lead-in to Bewitched, All in the Family, Sanford and Son. (kind of goes in order of their age). It's weird not to see it in prime time anymore, but seems like they really wanted to move away from having it there.

On another note, I read tvland.com will re-launch next Wed 6/16. So maybe now we can see a site that reflects the network in 2010 and not 2007/2008.

Good Times has been on TV Land the entire decade and its complete on DVD so it's time for it to go

tvparadise
06-09-2010, 11:09 PM
Actually only since summer 05 with this most recent run of Good Times.

I don't think they base what's complete on DVD or how long its been on the network- other wise the same argument could be made for Sanford and Son, Andy Griffith, Three's Company, etc....If it is successful (gets good ratings) it remains. And nowadays with them going in somewhat of a different direction, it is probably more difficult for shows that just do pretty good to get renewed I would guess.

tvland.com has been needing a total overhaul for ages. Thank God.

I think Beaver, Hogan's, and Hillbillies will air again eventually, maybe on the weekends or weekdays somehow. Since they all have a good while left, I just have a hard time seeing them never airing those again. Hillbillies seems most likely. I hope Boston Legal goes the way of EM: HE. Talk about out of place.

Keep in mind, although we've lost 2 classics so far this year, they've brought one new one in and another is coming. Bewitched seems to be doing well, which is great to see. It will be interesting to see when the new show airs.
And, it's funny they are airing Sanford and Son so. If I remember, years ago, TheLink said the show had the oldest demographics on the channel and even though it did well, they didn't like to air it. All I can think is they are desperate for ratings.

TV Land is pretty messed up. I hate this stupid off the clock programming and it sucks that the Brady Bunch and Good Times had to go. Rumor has it that the Brady Bunch is coming to WGN America sometime later this year and I hope it's true. It's a good thing that Good Times is still on TV One. They do a better job of showing it because the epiodes are uncut and they play the credits with the original music and don't do that stupid-a** credit crunch like TV Land. Same goes for the Jeffersons. I bet by 2015, I will have quit watching TV Land completely. They show too much of this new crap and not enough of the good shows they used to.

The new website at tvland.com has launched as well as new message boards (which nobody ever visits, at least for the shows).

The "Show" section STILL lists shows that haven't aired in ages. Grr.

Yeah...nice design...but still such a misrep of what the network is today. They now list even more shows than before that do not air. 13 total. Why put up pages for stuff like The A-Team, Murphy Brown, and Mad About You (but yet they took Addams Family, Bob Newhart, Munsters, and Night Court down....not that I'm suggesting they should have them up).

The schedule filter feature is very nice.

The addition of "Gilligan's Island" to the Shows page and a message board for it strikes me as odd. It wasn't there before. Could that be the sitcom for September? I've always wondered if that was the show. The Mad About You, MB, etc pages were already there I think. I'm surprised Hallmark doesn't make them take Lucy off.

IMO, the site still screams classic TV. But, then again, why would I expect it not to? They still don't have a clear direction as a channel. I think Raymond is the only recent show that has ever done anything and I don't know if the recent shows they've acquired will do well (like Curb Your Enthusiasm), seeing how Boston Legal did. ELR is different because it is so mass appeal.

tvparadise

The Gilligan's Island thing is weird, but they also added show pages for The A-Team and Charlie's Angels...so it's hard to know.

For the most part they are intentionally keeping these show pages around. I just think it's confusing to casual viewers (and those who don't frequent this website) because they'll go there and read that Shows list and think all those are actually shown on TV Land.

Shows that no longer have a page:
-The Addams Family
-The Bob Newhart Show
-The Munsters
-Night Court

Shows that now have a page added:
-The A-Team
-Charlie's Angels
-Gilligan's Island

-Mad About You (*update*- now removed)
-Murphy Brown (*update*- now removed)

*also this morning there was a Mister Ed page, but that has since been removed*

Show pages that should be taken down (not under contract)
-The Brady Bunch
-Cheers
-Good Times (still under contract, but not scheduled to air again)
-Green Acres
-I Love Lucy
-The Jeffersons
-Just Shoot Me (b/c people go to tvland.com looking for info on this one...)

Shows that have a board, but not a page:
-I Dream of Jeannie
-Mary Tyler Moore Show
-The Waltons
(Cheers and The A-Team have a page, but no board)

I'm surprised Hallmark doesn't make them take Lucy off.

I remember TheLink once wrote something like- TV Land can keep up show descriptions/pics/bios once the contract has expired...it's just videos they have to take down.

If you notice all The Brady Bunch videos that are up now are not footage from the actual series (yet the opening theme for The Jeffersons remains...uh oh!)

What were your thoughts on "Hot in Cleveland" ?

My preliminary thoughts were borderline but hopeful. I enjoyed it more than any other multi-camera sitcom from this past season (although that's not saying much when the sitcoms were "Hank," "Accidentally on Purpose," and "Romantically Challenged.") The cast is great and enjoyable - all four of the leads were very good and did what they could with only decent writing but I'm hopeful because there were some good lines and some good moments. I'll tune in again next week

Monday, July 5th will be a Bewitched marathon from 8am-5pm and Sanford and Son from 5pm-9pm then a couple of Raymond episodes. I think it's clear what shows are doing well.

Speaking of shows no longer airing, we're 2 expirations down, 4 to go. Little House (August), Cosby Show (September), Star Trek (October), Beverly Hillbillies (December). I'm pretty sure they will all go except maybe The Cosby Show, since Nick at Nite has been airing it and it still airs a good bit on TV Land, and I'm surprised it's still airing from 8-9pm. Honestly, I could care less if it goes. The Nanny comes in August and the unannounced classic in September (pretty sure it is I Dream of Jeannie or Gilligan's Island). Since Hogan's Heroes has 18 months left almost, I'm pretty hopeful it will come back and air at some point. Same for LITB.

My understanding for the shows that had boards but no pages was, if you recall, the TV Land boards used to have tons of show boards - earlier this year, they were cut back and they only kept the busy ones. I see no point in keeping those pages up.

It was okay. The writing was not that great, but thankfully Betty White was there to make it watchable. I could do without Wendy and Valerie - Jane was alright. The characters are very shallow so far and it's mostly just a bunch of reused one-liners. The "studio audience" sounded very much like a laugh track and it was very loud I thought.

They are replaying the pilot now and already a bunch of stuff is being cut out. Why already?

I think the actresses are good, but they haven't been given very good roles. So far no one is very like-able, they bitch too much. I suppose that might tone down as they get used to their "new environment."

Also, the plot is a little outlandish, but after 60 years of sitcoms, I imagine it's pretty difficult to come up with something original while still being believable.

So overall I'd say: More Betty, fewer whiny, annoying women. I'll watch again next week. And hopefully I'll catch the original airing or I'll be screwed out of 5 minutes of footage!

"Hot in Cleveland"showed A LOT of promise. And with guest stars in coming weeks like Hal Linden,Carl Reiner(Betty White said on "The Joy Behar Show"on Monday that her character goes out on a date with Carl Reiner's character). It's somewhat like "The Golden Girls,Jr."

I thought Hot in Cleveland was great. Betty White was fantastic as always. Wendie Malick really got funny at the end - you can tell she was getting into the character as the episode went on, which was kind of interesting. Jane Leeves was solid as well with the few lines she did get, while Valerie struck me as annoying throughout the whole episode. Maybe her character is just a bit too "strong," but I wouldn't mind seeing less of her and more of everyone else.

Overall, it was very traditional, and a great fit for TV Land. It isn't perfect yet, but it has a lot of promise, and I'm definitely going to be sticking with it over the summer. Hopefully ratings were excellent - with all the promotion (there was A LOT of promotion everywhere), I wouldn't be surprised to see 4-5 million viewers for it tomorrow.

The pilot was ok. Perhaps the next episode will be better.

I'm so used to Jane Leeves' Daphne accent that her real accent sounds strange, lol. I think I prefer the Daphne accent.

I was surprised that the repeat of the pilot was edited so much. Why?

I only watched the 10:30 version. I'm upset to hear that so much material was edited out in that one, since I didn't manage to catch the 10pm airing in time.

Meanwhile, Raymond is doing extremely well for TV Land. Apparently, many of its airings have done over a million viewers, especially the primetime airings, according to tvbythenumbers.com. With that said, I think this could finally be the big break TV Land has been looking for, especially if Hot in Cleveland hits.

I actually thought Hot in Cleveland was quite good. I had only seen the promos about 8,000 times and almost didn't want to watch because of that. LOL(this is the first TV Land original show I've actually tried seriously). I did laugh out loud several times, mostly at Betty White. It started a little rough but once she was on screen the whole show got brighter. I'll definitely watch again.

I watched the 10pm airing, not 10:30

Missed Hot in Cleveland...I'll try and catch it tomorrow.

But I did catch this....
TV Land has posted schedules for each week thru August on their boards
http://forums.tvland.com/?page=ThreadView&thread_id=73

With the addition of The Nanny on 8/2, we'll be seeing All in the Family leave evenings and Sanford and Son/The Cosby Show will move back to 6pm - 8pm with an hour of The Nanny at 8pm. Then, The Nanny airs again from 1am - 2am, pushing everything back an hour basically.

So it looks like this....
6/6:30pm- Sanford and Son
7/7:30pm- The Cosby Show
8/8:30pm- The Nanny
9 - 11pm- Everybody Loves Raymond
11pm - 1am- Roseanne
1/1:30am- The Nanny
2/2:30am- The Cosby Show
3/3:30am- Home Improvement
4/4:30am- Three's Company
5/5:30am- M*A*S*H

And they have the rights to The Nanny during the day also, so we'll be seeing some blocks in the afternoons on Saturdays. The premiere week will feature episodes from 6pm - 9pm & 11pm - 2am (for the most part) during the week and in afternoon blocks on Sat/Sun.

Probably not too much to think about as it will likely completely change by August. No airings of Little House on the Prairie in sight (it expires at the end of August).

Can someone please tell me what the deal with the off the clock schedule is about? Thank you.

What was edited it in the encore?

I watched part of the encore episode after watching the full premiere episode. The part of the encore episode I watched had several lines removed. I'm guessing they chose to do that so that they could shove in a bunch more commericals. It seems like a bad idea because those who didn't see the first airing missed out on a lot.

I wonder if Hallmark will get 24-hour rights with TV Land likely losing it?

The modern shows, sadly, are eating up more and more of the schedule. It is a little glimmer of hope to see Hallmark adding another older show and saying they're committed to them, though. The "new" TV Land is starting to gain momentum, which is a blow to classic tv fans.

Absolutely amazing, but exactly the ratings I'm sure TV Land was hoping for. Nearly 5 million viewers? I wonder what the 2nd airing did. With that added in, the premiere could have done well over 6 million viewers altogether. Hopefully ratings will stay up. I would really love for this to be a big cable player this summer. TV LAND’S “HOT IN CLEVELAND” IS THE MOST-WATCHED CABLE SITCOM PREMIERE EVER

Second Episode Premieres on Wednesday, June 23 at 10 p.m. ET/PT

New York, New York, June 22, 2010 – TV Land’s sizzling, critically-acclaimed first original sitcom “Hot in Cleveland,” which last week became the most-watched cable sitcom premiere ever with nearly 6 million total viewers, returns for its second episode this Wednesday at 10 p.m. ET/PT.

TV LAND BOASTS OVER +20% INCREASE AMONG TARGET DEMO IN PRIMETIME FOR SECOND QUARTER 2010

Hot in Cleveland” Propels Network To Score Highest-Rated And

Most-Watched Month In Primetime Since January 2008

New York, NY, June 29, 2010 -- Buoyed by hit acquisitions and the premiere of the hugely successful “Hot in Cleveland,” TV Land scored impressive, double-digit gains in primetime for second quarter 2010, according to The Nielsen Company (March 29th-June 27th). Additionally, TV Land scored significant increases for the month of June as the highest-rated and most-watched month in primetime since January 2008.

The month of June was very successful for TV Land in primetime as the network posted a 0.4/393,000 among Adults 25-54, up +37% in rating and +36% in delivery. The network attracted an average of 904,000 total viewers for the month. Among Women 25-54, TV Land scored a 0.4/232,000 up +43% in rating and +45% in delivery. The first two episodes of the fiery hit “Hot in Cleveland” propelled TV Land to its highest-rated and most-watched month in prime since January 2008 with a 2.3 rating and 2.4 million A25-54 viewers. The sitcom is averaging over 5 million total viewers and is also a smash with Women 25-54, pacing at a 2.9/1.6 million viewers.

For the quarter in primetime, TV Land posted a 0.3/360,000 among its target demo of Adults 25-54, up +21% in both rating and delivery over YAGO. Among Women 25-54, TV Land scored a 0.4/210,000, up double-digit gains of +34% in rating and +35% in delivery over last year. In addition to the huge premiere of “Hot in Cleveland” in June, regularly scheduled programming such as “Everybody Loves Raymond” and “Roseanne” remained strong performers among Adults 25-54 for the quarter with “Raymond” posting a 0.4/415,000 and “Roseanne” scoring a 0.3/341,000. Additionally, the original series “How’d You Get So Rich?” starring Joan Rivers also performed well with a 0.3/341,000 among A25-54.

Is it just me, or are they phasing Prime out even more? Now it's down to just tiny letters going down the right side of the bug.

I just saw an advertisement for Raymond, Hot In Cleveland, She's Got The Look, The Nanny, and Harry Loves Lisa - and no mention of Prime.

JulieSomoski

They don't really need the PRIME name anymore. PRIME was just a ploy to grab viewers' attention, a phase to a different branding. And now that it seems they've finally arrived, now that more and more viewers are beginning to find TV Land again with shows like HIC and Raymond, they can go back to using TV Land.

I find it interesting that they listed Roseanne as a success in their press release. I haven't even realized that it's been on the network since May 2009. And it's airing 2 hours a night. In fact, I don't think it's ever aired less than that it's entire run on TV Land. It must really pull good numbers for them. Personally, I'm looking for The Nanny to be hit just like Raymond. It'll mesh very well with Raymond and Roseanne, and Hot in Cleveland as long as it's still airing. A lineup of The Nanny/Raymond/Roseanne should work, although Raymond/The Nanny/Roseanne would make more sense.
