There are many, many, many classic tv theme songs and theme music. What are some of the worst in your opinion? For me, I hate the Rockford Files theme song. I also am not a big fan of the Welcome Back Kotter theme either.

I always loathed the horrible, twangy Seinfeld theme. It makes me nervous, lol.

Likewise the wordless Cosby Show theme, blech.

I love the Rockford Files theme but I have to agree with you about Welcome Back Kotter. It's also one of about 4 or so themes that hit #1 on the Billboard singles chart and I never understood why. I think it's a rather boring song.

...I can think of a few:

The third [abbreviated] season theme for "PRIVATE BENJAMIN" (1982-'83). There was a different version of the theme each season it was on the air- the first two were "rousing" and darn impressive- but the last one was pretty mediocre: a march that sounded "bland" and "banal" (as the series had become, and it ended in mid-season).

"YOU TAKE THE KIDS" (1990-'91)
I almost forgot how that went, but I still remember the show itself: Nell Carter's variation of "ROSEANNE"- and it was terrible (I'm almost thankful the Gulf War pre-empted the sixth and final episode).

"HILLER AND DILLER" (1997)
Even though it was sung by the great Leon Redbone, it sounded "incomplete" [by then, ABC insisted on sitcom theme songs lasting about 20 seconds or less]...and the series was itself mediocre, which is why it lasted half a season.

One of the worst themes is the ABC theme to the series "Matlock".When "Matlock"was on NBC,it had a great theme to it.The NBC theme had was real catchy. The ABC theme, however,is a lot less memorable, and,in my opinion, practically forgettable. What a differemce a change of networks make.

Neither do I. It's an entirely DIFFERENT show. It's simply not as funny and witty and clever. I have seen every episode of all 8 seasons with Charlie Sheen but only 2 episodes with Kucher. That's all I can take. It was "The Charlie Sheen Show", actually. "Two and a Half Men was just the working title name as far as I was concerned.

I didn't like the theme to the Ropers very much. It was a bland instrumental. I loved the ABC version to Matlock. I thought that it was spot on vaudeville/ragtime sounding.

The theme to the show "Hangtime" wasn't all that to me IMO.

Malcolm in The Middle, Roseanne (like the show, though), Soap. ComedyGuy, I'm with you on Phyllis. I saw the intro a few years ago on YouTube and it took me a long time to get the theme song out of my head. I must avoid it so I don't relapse.
To each their own because some of the themes mentioned here I have no problems with.

Hot in Cleveland, without dispute, deserves to win this contest...

I also have to agree with the people who said:

*Two & a Half Men

*Charles in Charge
*Friends.

I couldn't stand the theme songs to the following shows either:

*Leave It to Beaver (though I like the instrumental from Season 6)

*The Twilight Zone (hated the original theme, love the main/infamous theme)

*Boy Meets World (every version of theme just seemed very bland and anti-climatic. Not a bad show though)

The season 1 LITB theme is actually my least favorite. It was used as the opening theme for seasons 1-5. It was simple and I guess matched the feel of the show in early seasons but I preferred the more fleshed out arrangements in later years.

Off the top of my head:

Two And A Half Men (so repetitive, and annoying)
Dear Jon (stupid lyrics, and the singer is SO WHINY)
Charles In Charge (lame....just lame)
Silver Spoons (see Charles In Charge)
Friends (overplayed......so very overplayed)
Roseanne - the version with lyrics (not a fan of Blues Traveler, and lyrics were stupid)
Malcolm In The Middle (not a fan of They Might Be Giants)
All In The Family (so much screaming from Edith)
Alice (part lyrics, part Linda Lavin's singing)

I never liked the theme song to The Big Bang Theory, but I loved the show. I wasn't crazy about I'll Be There for You for Friends either, but it's one of my favorite shows. The Family Ties theme was so serious that it didn't fit for a sitcom. Father Knows Best was another one that was too dramatic for such a light show. The Toy Parade (all versions) for LITB is one of my favorites!

The Family Ties theme was nauseating--it would fit a soap opera. The FKB closing theme was updated (improved, IMO) during the 5th season and again in the 6th season. The opening theme in the original episodes was updated in the last three seasons, but remained unchanged in syndication. The changed original versions are on the 4th and 6th season DVD sets.
