But i can't stand "Are you being served" I also like mr bean. Cokies 01-11-2001, 01:57 AM There's only two words you have to say in association with britcoms, 'Absolutely Fabulous'. That show is so funny, if you have'nt seen it, buy the videos off amazon or something. You might be lucky enough to see an episode on Comedy Central. I highly recommend it! ------------------ "It was just like Saturday Night Fever, except it was a Friday." Ian 01-11-2001, 02:09 AM I never cared much for "Absolutley Fabulous", But I did enjoy "Fawlty Towers" and "Father Ted". In the U.S. you can watch these and many other "Britcoms" on BBC America! I dont think all cable companies carry this channel, but most satelite and Digital Cable carriers do. ------------------ Stanley Roper: I'm sorry Jack Jack Tripper: Oh, thats ok, what did you do? Roper: Me? Nothing, I just thought I saw something that wasnt normal, because it was normal, but, now I can see it aint normal, so, everything's back to normal again. Jack: oh, well, I'm glad for you. PomeranzFan1 01-11-2001, 01:04 PM Don't forget "Benny Hill!" Also, while were on the subject, has anyone ever seen any britcom that the U.S. later turned into one of their own? For example: "'Til Death Us Do Part"->"All in the Family" "Man About the House"->"Three's Company" ------------------ Felix: "Responsibility" is my middle name, Mister! Oscar: And "Pest" is your FIRST name, Mister! heather78 01-11-2001, 04:00 PM yeah, i totally forgot about fawlty towers what a great show! "Manwel what are you doing?"lol i also loved absolutly fabulous Jay 01-11-2001, 11:48 PM Keeping Up Appearances is a hoot! Hyacinthe is hysterical in that show. She played a detective on a drama series but I couldn't get into it. I also loved the red-headed actress who played Mrs. Roper in Man about the House. factsoflife 02-03-2001, 09:11 PM i love absolutley fabulous... and i am ashamed to admit this but i even like waiting for god!!! Smeghead 03-20-2001, 08:04 AM You've all forgotten Red Dwarf!!! How could you? It's the best and not too mention one of the highest rating shows in BBC history. It's unique as a sci-fi comedy and KILLS anything the americans could do in that genre (eg Third Rock from the Sun). In fact, most british sitcoms beat ANY American sitcom. American sitcoms are basically all the same. Pretty much all revolve around the home or office. British sitcoms often have a little more intelligence with their comedy (eg Mr Bean, The Young Ones) and don't just throw out the same old lines and always do the same boring things. The british ones are innovative, cutting edge and their gags are often GENUINE gags not some Frasier smart ass remark or Bill Cosby and his wife are finally alone or some rubbish. Watch more BBC TV and request your local stations to bring back Red Dwarf, The Young Ones, Blackadder, Mr Bean etc if they don't run it! Purple Velvet Bohemian 03-20-2001, 06:41 PM While I love Britcoms, I don't think "they kill" American sitcoms. I happen to love the good old American sitcom, and think that while lots of American shows are stupid, and contrived, there are lots of them that are really funny, and well done. I have seen many Britcoms that I didn't like as well, besides the fact that American censors wouldn't allow a lot of what goes on British TV. There is definately a different mind set in Britain. MARFAR104 04-07-2001, 06:55 PM "TO THE MANOR BORN" WAS VERY FUNNY! I HAVEN'T SEEN IT FOR A FEW YEARS THOUGH! WISH THEY'D BRING IT BACK ON! ON PBS. factsoflife 04-20-2001, 01:02 AM great news all, AB FAB is back! Comedy Central has confirmed that they will air six new episodes of ABSOLUTLEY FABOULOUS this November! Patsy, Edina and Saffie will all be back with a whole new character to be played by the same women that played bubbles.. did i dream this up or is it actually happening? Ian 04-21-2001, 01:57 AM Originally posted by Smeghead: You've all forgotten Red Dwarf!!! ! Damn, how did I forget that. Definatly the best sci-fi comedy of all time! LdyofLake4 05-25-2001, 04:00 AM Listen very carefully I shall say this only once...I love 'Allo 'Allo! heather78 05-26-2001, 11:58 PM i have to disagree about red dwarf it is my most hated britcom next to blackadder and are u being served Sean Snow 05-27-2001, 11:13 AM "George and Mildred" -> "The Ropers" "Robyn's Nest" -> "Three's A Crowd" ------------------ Jack: I'm surprised at you. Where would all the great women of history be if they thought like that!? Look at Joan of Ark and wht she accomplished. And, and Florence Nightengale and Madam Curry. Chrissy: And Lucretia Borzok. Janet: She posioned people. Chrissy: Yeah, but she was very goo at it. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The You Can Do It Cheer Chrissy: You Can Do It, You Can Do It. WHY should you be ASHAMED of that?!? "W4G" is a WONDERFUL show with a top-notch cast! Janine Duvitski and Graham Crowden are both classically trained Shakespearean performers-- as well as having appeared together as Fanatics in the Monty Python movie "Jabberwocky"...] TJL 07-14-2002, 10:37 PM The "Black Adder" series, people.... One of the funniest Britcoms ever, and one of my personal favorites. Rowan Atkinson is a genius! Will and Grace Fanatic 07-15-2002, 02:01 AM I get BBC but I never actually watched a whole episode of a British sitcom. But I love So Graham Norton, that is the funniest talk show I have ever seen. That's the only british show that I do watch. JethroSimpson 07-15-2002, 01:29 PM Grahem Norton has just started doing a chatshow 5 nights a week. Brian Damage 07-15-2002, 03:02 PM Benny Hill will always be my favorite(Even though that was more of a variety show than a sitcom) However, does anybody remember the Britcom, "The Goodies"? That show was a laugh riot! :) gotchrislady 07-15-2002, 04:09 PM I loved watching FAWLTY TOWERS and one called BUTTERFLIES. Does comedy Central show any of these or will they? :p :talk: |
