View Full Version : Cart or Basket? What Do You Call It?
Family Ties Forever! 03-06-2010, 08:48 PM At the store, what do you call the thing you put items in? Carts or baskets?
I have called them both before. I know sometimes it depends on geographic locations. I'm just curious to see what people call them. I have even heard people call them buggies before.

Yeah, that! I know when you go to target you can use a cart if you're getting a lot of things (big thing with wheels and you push it) or they have baskets that you carry a few things in. So to me they're 2 completely different things, not different names. I thought the only names for them were cart or buggy (which some people on here seem to be calling, too)
Nighthawk76 03-07-2010, 08:34 PM cart

Coffeecup 03-11-2010, 07:24 PM I usually called them carts. But on occasions will call it a buggy. I call my car a buggy but back in the 1920;s people did call cars buggies.

Bonniegirl 05-14-2021, 01:09 AM I call it a cart , that's what you push around the store ! :) A basket is what you carry around if you only need a few items !;)
biffbronson 05-14-2021, 06:56 AM If it has wheels: shopping cart. If it's to be carried: hand-basket.
icecream 05-14-2021, 07:56 AM If it has wheels: shopping cart. If it's to be carried: hand-basket.:yeahthat Carts are much larger. Buggies that several in this thread have called carts sure sound strange, that word should only be used with horses.

Me too, some of us with walking issues use the buggy to hold on to while shopping.
SitcomsHeydayfan 05-18-2021, 01:52 AM In America I've never heard them called anything but a shopping cart.
Of course if you carry it then it's a basket.
Dude111 05-18-2021, 03:01 PM I would think a BASKET is something smaller (Like many have said above)
