View Full Version : Was the Character of Cindy Snow A Big Mistake?

Should they have just said that Chrissy got married or moved out or something and went in a totally new direction instead of bringing in Cindy? She never really meshed well on the show. IMO

No I think under the circumstances they were under with Suzanne suddenly gone from the show, the Producers did the best they could with the Cindy Character.

...and also I don't think they knew if Suzanne was coming back or not. Jennalee was meant to be temporary until they determined the outcome of Suzanne Somers (in the producers' opinion) unreasonable demands. Besides I for one liked the character of Cindy.

Obviously the producers had some issues with the character since they pushed her into the background and more or less phased her out when they brought in Terri as the third roomate. But like Markaway said Cindy was only a temporary situation anyway due to the uncertainty surrounding Suzanne Somers future on the show. Once that issue was resolved the brought in Terri as the third roomate and moved Cindy into the background and began to slowly phase her out.

Yes, the character was GOOFY, TOO TALL, and CLUMSY and related to CHrissy. a Huge Mistake-lol

Exactly. It was one of those emergency situations where they needed someone FAST because Suzanne's antics had already held up production for too long. The production people were losing lots of money, and ABC was understandably upset as well. I think Jenilee did very well under a lot of pressure and scrutiny, and I don't think she gets fair credit for that. Having said that, Terri's still my favorite of the blond roommates.

I think the Cindy character worked very well with Jack. They had some of the funniest scenes together, especially with all the physical comedy. "Double Trouble" with Austin Tripper was definitely one of the funniest episodes of the series.

The reason they replaced Cindy was because she had zero chemistry with Janet. It wasn't believable that her and Janet were close friends. It wasn't really "Three's Company", if the three roommates didn't gel together.

I still believe they should have brought Cindy back for Three's a Crowd. She had much more chemistry with Jack than Vicky did. She even accepted his marriage proposal in one of the episodes. It would have been funny if Larry was forced to move in with them. It definitely would have been "Three's a Crowd".

Yes, Cindy was tall, but I thought it only looked awkward when she stood next to petite Janet. When she interacted with Jack, it wasn't noticable.

I always liked Cindy, too. I have always thought Harrison was a very underrated actress, particularly in comedy. I liked Terri as a character too, though, and kind of wish they would have been able to accomodate four roomates (or at least three roommates and a goofy female neighbor).

Cindy: Jack, I'll be a good wife. I'll give you love and respect and a good home

Jack: I know but you're not pregnant.

Cindy: I'll give you that too.

Jack: You don't understand. You're not already pregnant.

Cindy: (turns to Janet) Talk about lazy!

I liked Cindy. Her and John were great together and she did pretty well considering she was cast at the last minute. Lana was the one mistake that the producers of 3C made. She had no chemistry with John .

You've GOT to be kidding!!

The chemistry between Jack and Cindy was fantastic!!

It's just that it got old to have Cindy be a klutz over and over again so they brought in the more sophisticated Terri and the show should've gone on years longer with Terri if they couldn't just come up with good storylines!

^Yea, that exchange is funny....

I don't think Cindy was given a fair shot of being her own character, she was at first almost a clone of Chrissy, be it the "country/farm" version. But for Jennilee's sake, she landed a gig on "Dallas" which lasted two seasons, so she is lucky she had roles on two hit series. Not too many actors get that chance.

I loved the Cindy character, I thought she was hysterical--- I think I even liked her better than Chrissy towards the end of her run on the show when you could just tell that she didn't care anymore. In fact perhaps my favorite episode of TC is "Case of the Missing Blonde." Classic.

The episode that you are writing about is called "Urban Plowboy". Although that episode did have a lot of funny lines, there was one hole in the plot that I wondered about for a long time. Remember Jack's original reason for going to the farm? Larry used Jack's name when he took the other guy's car and romanced his girl. Fear that the man would come looking for him caused him to leave town for the weekend. The man did, in fact come to the building and asked my Furley if he knew were "Jack" was? Mr. Furley thought that he was a gay man who wanted to "get his hands on Jack"! Thinking he was being a good samaritan, he drove the man up to the farm so he and "Jack" could have their romance! He ended up at the farm and met up with both Jack and Larry. Not knowing (or caring) who the real Jack was, he decided to beat both of them to a pulp! After he caused both of them (and Mr. Furley) enough pain and grief for his own satisfaction, he left the farm alone. The only thing that I was never able to figure out was, without Mr. Furley as his ride, how did he get back to L. A.? Any thoughts anyone?

I agree with the earlier posts. She was created quickly to fill in for Suzanne (Chrissy), and since the future was still uncertain as to whether or not she'd be back, they didn't intend her to be a permanant, long-term roommate. I thought she was funny though, especially the physical comedy with John Ritter, he was so great at that and the Cindy character gave him a lot to work with in that area!

Apart from needing a third roommate (it IS "Three's Company," after all), I think they might have hoped that by showing that they could replace Suzanne, it might make her give in and return to the show.

It was nice that they kept Cindy on the show after Terri moved in, but what ever happened to her? She just kind of disappeared near the end of that season, never to be seen or mentioned again.

The ironing board scene is a gem...I think the only time I laughed harder was Jack's scene with the hammock in the camping episode (the Chrissy era). One of Jenilee's biggest assets in the role of Cindy was her adeptness at physical comedy.

I was never a big fan of Cindy's either. I thought she was okay just popping up from time to time as Chrissy's cousin, but didn't care for her as a roommate. After awhile, her airhead clumsiness just wasn't funny. It would've been good had the found Terri soon after Chrissy left to help out her family(?). So Jennilee Harrison was really just another blonde to fill in for Suzanne, but she really didn't bring anything significant to the show.

Did anybody ever consider that maybe it had nothing to do with Harrison's performance, but the mere fact that she was so much taller than petite Joyce Dewitt. She may have even been taller than John Ritter. The three of them standing on stage looked awkward and unbalanced, than with the more average heighted Somers or Barnes, as the third roomate. Just an observation.

It's a possibility. Before Charlie's Angels cast Tanya Roberts as the newest Angel in 1980, Jayne Kennedy auditioned for the role of Julie Rogers. According to the Charlie's Angels Casebook, the feeling was that she may have lost the role because at 5'10", she towered over Cheryl Ladd, who is about 5'3".

Shelley Hack towered over Cheryl Ladd, also. The trio of Jaclyn, Cheryl & Shelley looked off balance too.

I think you're right about them looking awkward and unbalanced. Also, the chemistry wasn't there between the three of them. Joyce Dewitt never really accepted Jenilee because of her lack of acting experience.

Jenilee had great chemistry with John and all the scenes when they were together were very funny.

Yeah. Cindy was just a spur of the moment character. I'm sorta glad she came because she saved the show from not airing, if I'm not mistaken, but, I still say she wasn't planned out well enough. The only characters on the show that actually have depth, are Janet, Jack, Larry, Chrissy (somewhat) and so on.But yeah, to add a Cindy wasn't such a good idea. The Teri character was inevitable.

I liked all three blondes. Each was unique in her own way.

The producers really lucked out, when they literally threw her before the cameras, that she did so well. They should have kept Jenilee on permanently.

I didn't care for the character of Cindy at all. Her clumsiness got old by the third, possibly even her second episode. I wonder whose great idea it was to cast a pretty gal, but have her act like the 4th Stooge. It got to the point where she had a hard time walking into a room without causing an uproar. Sidesplitting humor, not.

And I never connected the clumsy angle because her cousin Chrissy was more of an airhead not clumsy. So why they made her clumsy was always confusing

They wanted the character of Cindy to have her own identity while still being similar to Chrissy. So they made Cindy a klutz in comparison to Chrissy who was an airhead.

I recall when they 'replaced' Chrissy with Cindy, and to be honest, I was all prepared to dislike her because I was a big fan of Suzanne's.

However, I found I really liked Cindy. Yes, she was very pretty, but more than that she was LIKEABLE, and vulnerable in a way. She didn't seem to be a 'threat' to the memory of Chrissy, she came across as her own character, and most of this was due to Jenilee Harrison's acting skills because the character as written wasn't, admittedly, very substantial.

So...yay, Cindy! :)
