View Full Version : Nic Cage Hasn't Had A Hit in Years, He is in Serious Debt, Now this...
Brian Damage 02-14-2010, 10:28 PM Lionsgate has decided that the "Season of the Witch" won't be in March, pulling the Nicolas Cage starrer out of its March 19 release date -- only five weeks before its planned opening.
The minimajor hasn't yet set a new launch date for "Witch," which also stars Ron Perlman, Ulrich Thomsen, Stephen Campbell Moore, Stephen Graham and newcomer Claire Foy.
"We're looking for the best release date," said a spokeswoman on Friday.
Lionsgate's decision to vacate the date leaves a quartet of wide openers on March 19 -- Fox's family comedy "Diary of a Wimpy Kid," Universal's sci-fier "Repo Man," starring Jude law and Forest Whitaker; Sony's comedy "The Bounty Hunter," starring Jennifer Aniston and Gerard Butler; and Apparition's "The Runaways."
"Season of the Witch," directed by Dominic Sena from Bragi Schut's script, centers on 14th Century knights transporting a girl suspected of being the witch who has spread the Black Plague.
Producers are Chuck Roven and Alex Gartner; production comapnies include Roven's Atlas Entertainment, and Relativity Media.

comedyfreak 02-15-2010, 03:09 AM Poor Nic
Um, sorry, what's the big deal? Movies get their releases pushed back all the time, it happens. And I don't feel sorry for Nic. This guy's been given everything - everything! He's a Coppola. He's won an Oscar. And he's made a lot of terrible movies (Wicker Man, anyone?) His financial problems are his own dang fault. I wouldn't go see a new Nicolas Cage movie if he paid me to.
JamesG 02-15-2010, 03:48 PM And he's made a lot of terrible movies (Wicker Man, anyone?)

What was he thinking??
Janice 02-15-2010, 03:52 PM All actors have a few duds in their resume. Nic's been in enough hits to balance it out. I think he's a terrific actor, and I've seen most of his movies. If I didn't like the movie, it was for other reasons, but never because of his performance. He didn't cash in on his Copolla name, and chose Cage as his screen name. Not many people would do that.

This movie is so bad it's great. It's one of the best unintentional comedies ever made.
btw, that famous "bee scene" did not make the final cut as it was an alt. ending on the DVD release.

Yeah, he only used the Coppola name once in his career - his film debut in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.

No, it's just bad.

And yet everyone knows he's a Coppola and he did use his family's connections. I'm sorry, I can't stand him as an actor. He's got such a whiney voice it makes me insane. I don't say he doesn't work hard, but he's made his own bad choices.

Everyone knows that? Did you talk to everyone? Even if he did use the Coppola name, and he'd be crazy if he didn't, that only gets a person so far. Famous relatives can open doors, but it ends there, and the rest is up to the actor. Nobody will make it as an actor without talent. Nobody is loved by everyone. Nic's got a solid fan base. Sounds like you've got some irrational hatred going on there. He's only an actor, and he's not looking for you to feel sorry for him.
Mr. Television 02-16-2010, 08:38 PM If I was just a casual movie goer ,I'd never know he was a Coppola. Lots of Hollywood stars open the doors for their kids or family. Do you think Henry Fonda never opened any doors for Jane or Peter? It's the public who decides if any of these people have talent. The ones that do last in this business and the ones that don't just disappear. Nicholas Cage must have some fans as he's had a long movie career. Sure he's had some bombs. Most stars do at one time or another. Look at John Travolta. I'm not a big Nicholas Cage fan. I liked a few of his movies but regardless, he's had a pretty good career. And don't forget he's also won an Oscar. Not too many stars can say that.

Wow, Janice, calm down. First of all, I certainly don't hate him. I don't hate anyone. As an actor, I don't find him talented and I think he owes most of his success to his famous family. That's just my opinion. I'm entitled to it.

Nice try Liza, but I was telling you to calm down. Look at your posts, going off about the guy as if he personally did something to you. That's why I said you have some irrational hatred going on. It didn't make any sense. Like I said in my last post, he's just an actor. No need to get all worked up about him.

Would you mind explaining to me then why Paris Hilton is considered an "actress"?
catlover79 02-16-2010, 09:13 PM Let us not forget that another member of the Coppola family, Sofia, was royally raked over the coals for her performance in Godfather III. But she found much respect behind the scenes as producer/writer/director for Lost in Translation (which was a darn fine little movie). She was only the third woman director to get an Oscar nomination, and won the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. So even though her family name has no doubt helped her get into the business, she really has carved her own niche in Hollywood. So has Nicolas Cage (loved Honeymoon in Vegas, by the way).

Then you totally misread my posts. I'm not worked up at all. I find him whiney and irritating. That's not emotion, it's a simple opinion. I think he's annoying. You're going all uber-defensive. I don't like him as an actor, and I don't feel sorry for his movie's release getting pushed back. That's all.
Janice 02-16-2010, 09:15 PM Would you mind explaining to me then why Paris Hilton is considered an "actress"?
Nobody takes her seriously as an actress. She would never land a great role with A-List actors. No comparison at all. None whatsoever.

I always liked Sofia. I think she's quirky and has totally found her own place in filmmaking.

I'll agree with that. But when people are saying only talented actors are successful, I felt obliged to point her out ;)

I loved Lost in Translation - the main theme of that movie really was...friendship!! :D

I'm ashamed to admit it, I still haven't seen that one! I actually remember her when she was a kid (still being billed as "Domino Coppola") in Faerie Tale Theatre!

Nope, no emotion there. You're pissed he even got into show business, and claim he was given everything - everything! He's got problems, but no sympathy from you. It's all his own dang fault. The sound of his whiney voice makes you insane. That Oscar, he won that, with his talent. Nobody gave it to him. You begrudge him everything. I pointed out that you were going overboard. It's not the other way around, no matter how much you try to make it so.

You are totally misinterpreting everything I said. Okay, let's take your accusations one by one:
1) I am not "pissed he even got into show business." I just think he did it because of his family. No he's not the first person to get in that way, and he won't be the last. It's just a fact.
2) No sympathy from me about his financial problems. He has chosen his own projects, his own agents, his own accountants, and has simply spent more money than he's made. That is, in my book, his own dang fault.
3) Yes, I think he has a whiney voice. That's my own opinion. Yes it does make me insane. (My sister's voice makes me insane too!) I know not everyone agrees with me, and I don't expect them to. But I don't have to like his acting if it doesn't appeal to me.
4) I never said he didn't earn his Oscar. I actually was the first person on this thread to point out that he won it. I have a high respect for Academy Award winners. However, I am still of the opinion that his career since winning has been rather lackluster.
5) I don't "begrudge him everything." I just don't happen to find him that talented, and he was handed a lot by his family. True I said everything, and honestly no, I didn't really mean "everything." You're reading into waaay more detail than was originally meant.
6) I am not upset or angry or anything at this man. You're the one who's reading my posts as though I have a dartboard with his picture on it. I don't. He's just an actor I don't particularly care for. I'm sure there are several actors you don't care for either.
Now, can we try and understand each other and make peace?
Janice 02-16-2010, 10:41 PM Liza, you've got it all wrong. I'm not mad. I was simply commenting that your hatred for the guy was over the top. I wasn't imagining things. I got it from your posts. You don't usually post that way. So yeah, we're good. No problem here. :)

I don't hate him, and I truly didn't mean for those posts to be taken so seriously.

eh.. I didn't care for that one. I found it very dull.
The only one I really liked that she did was The Virgin Suicides. I also did not care for Marie Antoinette.

Yeah it's bad but it kept me entertained and laughing throughout. Not many bad movies can do that.

Wasn't Kirsten Dunst in Marie Antoinette? I never saw it, and I never saw Virgin Suicides.
