View Full Version : Do You Prefer Things To Be Loud Or Quiet?
Family Ties Forever! 12-10-2009, 08:49 PM Do you like things like the tv and radio to be loud or quiet?
I like to watch tv or listen to the radio with a low reasonable level. My mother and sister like the tv and radio to be loud. Since I have very good hearing I hate loud noise.
Retro4Life 12-10-2009, 09:14 PM I guess in general I'd say "quiet". If things are too loud is makes me a bit jumpy.
I notice the sound at movie theaters is hard to modulate. The trailers boom out like the trumpets of Gideon, fairly assaulting my eardrums. But sometimes once the movie starts the dialogue is a bit soft or indecipherable, though that may be somewhat due to the tendency of modern actors to mumble a bit. :)
Crimson and Clover 12-10-2009, 09:32 PM quiet
I usually keep my stereo and TV at pretty low volume. Loud TVs are one of my pet peeves.
I also dislike loud music and loud voices. I grew up in an extremely noisy house -- dad and mom, grandma, lots of brothers and sisters, grouchy old dog that barked all the time, everything loud and crazy. So now that I'm older, I really appreciate my quiet time.
The only exception is when I've had a few beers. That's when I turn up the music and have a good time! party:
HuntingtonM15 12-11-2009, 12:46 AM Quiet, unless I'm in my car alone, then the radio tends to be on the louder side.
catlover79 12-11-2009, 12:52 AM The quieter things are around me, the better. I get so nervous when there are crowds around or things get too loud.
JamesG 12-11-2009, 01:17 AM I can tolerate things loud but prefer it more quiet when I'm alone or at home.
TV and my music I keep low; I don't blast it. When I was in my teens I blasted my music but I don't do that anymore.
I can tolerate having things very loud at concerts or at clubs but it gets to be annoying when people have to talk directly in your ear to hear each other.
ponytail 12-11-2009, 06:36 AM Quiet.
sunshinefizzy 12-11-2009, 08:49 AM I suppose it depends on what mood I'm in.

Pitooey 12-11-2009, 09:26 AM Medium. I play my music loud in the car but at home I'm fairly quiet like.
MickeyMac 12-11-2009, 03:27 PM Depends, the TV usually quiet. Sometimes if I am playing music and I come across a tune I really dig, I cant help but to crank it up. I do that in the car too.

Yea, Monika, I agree. Sometimes when I am in crowds and children and young teens are being loud, it drives me up a wall. I prefer quiet, unless I am in my car. The radio gets turned up, especially this time of year with the Christmas music. :D
OH Nuts! 12-12-2009, 02:04 PM QUIET!!!! please. Loud noises drive me crazy, and I mean CRAZY.
Janice 12-12-2009, 03:21 PM Quiet all the way. My husband likes the tv kind of loud, and it drives me crazy. In restaurants or stores, I hate it when the music is too loud. A couple of years ago, I was in CVS very early in the morning, and there were about three customers in the store, including myself. There was a young staff working, and the radio was blaring, and I mean blaring, with heavy rock. I told one of the employees to please lower the radio so I could hear myself think. I asked him if this was a drugstore or a nightclub.
Schmoopie 12-14-2009, 05:14 AM I used to be able to listen to really loud music (not ear-splitting, but louder than my mom would approve of!), but within the past few years, I've gotten really sensitive hearing. I can't stand being in a restaurant or on a bus and being able to hear people talking next to me. I'm REALLY sensitive to that and it used to never bother me before.
At work I used to go out to eat all the time for lunch only to be able to get out of the building because there is literally nowhere that I can sit and get some peace and quiet.
Must be getting old....

Yes; I KNOW it's an OLD PICTURE. . . . .
I like a low to mid-volume level, loud enough that I can hear it without having to raise my voice if I want to talk to someone. My husband likes it loud, but he has some hearing loss due to years of riding a Harley and working around loud machines.

I can relate to not liking the tv being loud. I like having the tv at a normal level.. I know what you mean about being in a store and a certain area may have music turned waaaay up.
I just noticed this thread is from 2009, lol.
Bonniegirl 07-21-2015, 01:57 PM TV at a regular level. Music too, unless I have been drinking and I really like the song !!! CRANK IT UP BABY!!!! I live in the city so it is never really that quiet here, I don't like things really loud, but if you can hear a "pin drop" quiet I don't like that either, that makes me nervous! I always have the TV on when I'm home even if I'm not watching it. And we keep pet birds and it never is totally quiet with birds chirping and singing all day!
My hubby tends to have the TV loud, and his family drop in a lot and they all talk really loud! LOL!!!
