I have two cats, and I adore them. Still, I'm more of a dog person. If I was in better health, I'd get a dog; yet dogs are higher maintenance than cats. How about you?

definitely a dog person. I am highly allergic to cats.

Cats, no contest. My two kitties are my family. They think the apartment belongs to them - they just let me sleep there sometimes.

Dogs have masters, cats have staff.

Growing up I was a dog person as that's all we had.

Now, I would say I'm more of a cat person. I like both, but I prefer cats. :)

I love both. They each have their own special charms. :)

Both. I preferred dogs when I was younger, but in the past few years I've really started liking cats, for some reason. They're so mellow and quiet, and that's a good thing.

Cats all the way. We've never had a dog. I like dogs, but could never own one - they are way too high maintenance for me. :cat: :kitties:

I love my kitties to no end, but I miss having a dog. I never owned one, but I miss the Cairn terrier my mother had before she came down with cancer several years ago. If an animal loves you and wants to play and cuddle, that's what matters. Dogs are high maintenance, you have to be around to feed them, walk them, take care of them and keep them from being lonely, and if I wasn't gone from home all the time I'd love to have one. Cats are low maintenance, they take care of themselves, and they ring a little bell when they need you. I find cats completely mystifying, but it would be nice to have a little doggy around. Keep the kitties in line. :D

I'm a cat person though, I don't mind dogs. Cats are more self sufficient.

I love them both, too. Grew up mostly with dogs, but now I take care of 5 cats along with my dogs.

I like both. But I prefer cats. They are easier to take care of and some dogs can be really hyper and always jumping.

Every dog I ever had was kept in line by the cats. Truly, they're always the ones who call the shots. My parents have a dog, a pure-bread Schipperke (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Schipperke), and he is the sweetest thing, but he truly is terrified of the cats. They tell him he's lower than dirt, and he belives it.

I truly agree.

I am more of a cat person too. Although I love dogs, cats are more self-sufficient. Also, when they get excitable, they can be managed better than a dog.

OH Nuts!

Amen to that. In a fight betw a cat & a dog I'd put my $ on the cat. They're smart and fast...20 sec later you realize you've been scratched in a big away. They are also good at getting back at you by surprise.

BUT, there is NOTHING and I mean NOTHING like a sweet tempered cat. My Satchmo was a big ol Tom and he was the sweetest thing alive. A nice cat has all the virtues of a dog w/o any of the vices. (Like having to walk them 2-3X at least a day). BUT a dog with a sweet disposition is VERY NICE too - just dogs are more work.
