View Full Version : Favorite "The Price of Right" Games
I have been watching "Price is Right" almost half of my life and I have always thought that the little pricing games were so so easy!
I have a lot of favorite pricing games like:
PLINKO!!
PUNCHBOARD
SAFE CRACKER (Loved the music used)
RACE GAME
ONE RIGHT NUMBER ("Gentlemen or ladies, do I have at least ONE number right? BEEP!!)
HOLE IN ONE (or TWO!)
MAKE YOUR MOVE
3 STRIKES
MONEY GAME
This is not a pricing game but I loved how they used to have the little train come out that displayed the prizes.
That's about it right there! What are your favorite TPiR Pricing games? Share your memories and the favorite moments
dugferd 09-22-2001, 02:30 PM plinko, 3strikes, race game, safecracker, also:
Mountain Climber (yo-del-ay-ee-hoo)
The game where you have to draw cards to get to the value of the car
Piggy Bank
beat the clock (higher, higher, lower)
secret x
Worst game: Guess the digits in the price of the car and give back one dollar for every one you're off. Run out of the seven dollars you have and it's over. Tough game!
Easy games: blank check, range finder, which of the two prices is correct.
Tough games: (see above), 3 strikes,
corwayn2 09-22-2001, 06:47 PM I think TRIPLE PLAY is kinda tough, because, if you guess one thing wrong, you lose ALL THREE CARS, and I like the background music in THAT'S TOO MUCH!, but, Bob Barker forces the contestants to EXACTLY say, "That's Too Much"!, and for them to sound like they REALLY mean it
DarleneIllyria 09-24-2001, 01:12 PM Plinko is my favorite game. Then the punch board game is my 2nd favorite.
------------------
Hottest Men alive:
Dale Midkiff
Anthony Starke
Tim McGraw
Jonathan Crombie
Lumpy: Did you go out for anything, Dud?
Dudley: Well, I went out for football, but I got my finger stepped on, so my mother made me quit.
Eddie: Well listen-- I went out for basketball and I got my hair pulled, and my mother made ME quit.
Dudley: It's not that I was afraid of getting hurt or anything; it's just that-- well, it's kind o' hard to play the flute with a busted finger.
[Eddie and Lumpy suppress laughter]
Hole in One
I think it would be more dramatic if the contestant would have to win the second chance to putt.
ThomasE 10-06-2001, 07:54 AM Ohh! Ohh! Plinko and the Dice Game.

3. Triple Play (Hard to win but what a payoff!)
4. Cliff Hangers
5. Hole-in One (or Two)
6. Ten-Chances
Hey, I saw that new game Pass the Buck and I think it's pretty cool, but haven't seen it enough to rank it yet! What do you guys also think of the new game "Bonkers?"
I don't like One-Right Price (Too easy and dumb) or Make Your Move. Not a big fan of Secret X either.
I'm glad they changed the 3 Strikes to only 1 strike in the bag as well. Still like Clock Game. Dice Game is easy to get screwed in though. (Have you guys noticed that we are seeing fewer prices, especially on the cars that end in 0, 9, or 5?) I think that this is especially aparent on games like Cover Up and One Away?

Punchboard
Hole In One
Mountain Climber
Beat The Clock
Dice Game
3 Strikes
I'm not sure what the game is called but
the other one I like is where the person
has to stand on the correct # and he/she
can make move left, right, forward and
backward.
corwayn2 11-15-2001, 01:54 PM The game you mentioned where one person has to stand on the right number, and move left and right, is called "Pathfinder."
Bootsy Whoosh 12-06-2001, 08:17 AM My favorite pricing games are:
-Piggy Bank
-Pathfinder
-Dice Game
-That one where they have all the cards, with 2 numbers in the price of the car, and if you get it right, you see either the front end or the back end of the car (BTW, this game is also ridiculously easy. I only like it because I yell at the people who don't realize it is "el cheapo" 99% of the time!)
-Punch Board
-Cliff Hanger (mountain climber...that's the same one, right?)
-That one where there's three prizes and you get ten chances to write down the price of all 3 prizes
-Hole in One (or two)
-I always loved the one where...I forget exactly how it is played because it's been eons since I've seen this game...but at the end, one of Barker's Beauties would go over to a huge safe and see if it can be opened. Is this game the same as Safe Crackers? I thought this game had been retired, it has been literally, probably 6 or 7 years at least since I have seen it
-Plinko
I hate Secret X, what a boring game. My biggest complaint with TPIR is that lately it seems like it's always the same games over and over again. I don't know if they have less games now then when I was a kid, or if I'm just paying attention better now :)
It's also a tad bit annoying that they rarely ever pick one "normal-not-specially-dressed" person from the audience, and I count college sweatshirts as special dress too because they almost always get on. I mean it's cool because if I ever get to go, I'll make a custom tee, but still....
Also, it bugs me that the showcases are so uneven now. They used to be fairly equal, both in price and coolness of prizes. Lately, I've been seeing showcases where one showcase has like 2 cars or a car and a boat, along with like a TV and other stuff, and it's worth well over $30,000, and the other showcase is a room and like a year's worth of pizza, and if you're lucky, pots and pans, which totals to like $13,000. What's up with that? I seem to remember them being much more even in the past.
Well despite all my complaining, TPIR always has been and always will be my favorite game show. Who else but a true fan could find all these flaws and still love it? :D (btw, I also miss the little train)
FaithForever5981 12-27-2001, 04:15 AM Plinko
any number
and thats about it
LarryJ 12-27-2001, 06:29 AM THE GRAND GAME!
The opening cue comes from the closing theme of Family Feud's.
It's the same game that Samoan chased Bob Barker around the stage.
Back in 1988, a little old woman I nickname "Hurricane Arlene" not only won $10,000 on GG, but also $11,000 on the wheel. Then 12 years later, "Hurricane Lilia" pulled the same stunt only she played Punch-A-Bunch! Those ladies got a BI-SLAM (Double sirened) & if they'd won both showcaes as well, it's a GRAND SLAM!
Whoop-whoop-WHOOOOOOOOOOP!
Woo woo woo woo woo!
Moe, Larry, The Cheese! Moe, Larry, The Cheese!
Forgive me, I always do my Curly when I see siren winners.
jayman75 01-20-2002, 08:42 PM OK, here's my question/comment...
I REALLY want to find the Mountain Climber music, aka "The Yodel." Does anyone know where I can find it? I would be greatly appreciative.
Please email me if you know....
greenivy4ever 01-25-2002, 03:21 PM Anyone ever see the time the lovely Janice did her inspiration putt....it got to the side of the hole, & then it took an unbelieveable turn & it dropped right into the hole? That was around 1993.
Jordan 02-02-2002, 01:34 PM P L I N K O ! :happyface :happyface :happyface
mstewart 03-07-2002, 10:48 PM Plinko rocks and the energy level of the show is very high:cool:
Punchboard is cool. The male contestants are funny because they punch the board as though they are boxing. One contestant might as well put on the gloves the way he was punching the holes in those slots.
Golden Road is great especially those expensive cars.
Three strikes is cool being a baseball fan.
Hole in One is great because it reminds me of miniature golf.
Jack1000 03-09-2002, 06:31 PM I agree 100% that TPIR picks the same type of contestents most of the time....favorite contestents for the producers most likely chosen are:
1. Little old lady (most likely on vacation) who has never seen the show and doesn't know how to play any of the games.
2. Anyone in the military
3. A "good looking" college girl/guy that looks like a fashion model
4. The "little giggley" overly happy woman that like the little old lady doesn't know the games
5. Anyone named "Kimberly!" (What's up with that, I try to watch whenever I can and I have probably seen 20 or so "Kimberly's" in the last several years!)
They don't have "Regular Joe's/Janes on anymore!
ashleyyvonne 04-17-2002, 05:59 PM My Favorite game would have to be PLINKO oh what fun... cant wait till i m 18 so i can go to the show and try to be a contestdent...

Yeah, I dont watch it either. I dont know why but it has nothing to do with Drew Carey. They do have a lot more gimmicks on the show now, do they?

rusty spike 04-25-2015, 05:01 AM I like Hole in One and Race Game.
Sherrie Anson 04-25-2015, 06:29 AM I like "Let's Make a Deal" ... lol ... the costumes are really funny and they give out a lot of money ... lol ... I wonder how easy it is to go or join.:happyface
Melba Mamie 04-27-2015, 05:54 AM Plinko and Punch board is my favorite but I get too excited with triple play most of the time. I just can't stop the cheering.
Sherrie Anson 04-27-2015, 07:35 PM Oh and of course, Survivor is the ultimate game show.
irehtman 05-01-2015, 06:54 AM Bring back the Credit Card game!
Sherrie Anson 05-05-2015, 10:33 PM Another thing that I like find funny about let's maket a deal is the stoic looking "prize" girl. I can't remember her name, but she does not make a great host. She has the same expression on her face all the time. The host is kinda cute and is a good singer and dancer. Sure he can be a candidate for bosley (http://www.bosleymedicalbeverlyhills.com/patient-reviews.php), for more hair or for some hair, but that is part of his appeal like Morgan of Criminal Minds. Sometimes, though, when he makes fun of contestants, I can't help but think of a come back to him when I do succeed to being a contestant in the game!!!! yipee!

Well, I think "that girl" is trying her best. We do not need to talk about what is lacking on her on the physical aspect. Just Sayin.
GameShowFan66 05-29-2015, 11:36 AM Bring back the Credit Card game!
I'd be surprised if Credit Card ever returns again.
The show is already so condensed for time anymore, that it seems inconceivable that they would trot out a 5 prize pricing game to be played.
Shopping Spree is the anti-Credit Card, where a player needs to spend at least X amount to win, and is only a 4 prize game.
That being said, I always prefered Credit Card to Shopping Spree. I mean the object of "Price" is to NOT go over, yet with games like Spree and That's Too Much, that's just what contestants are being asked to do now.
GameShowFan66 05-29-2015, 11:46 AM I enjoy many of the car pricing games, epsecially Pocket Change, Cover Up, One Away, Dice Game, Golden Road, Three Strikes, Ten Chances, Any Number, Card Game, Gas Money and Temptation. Lucky Seven, Money Game and Triple Play are enjoyable but not as highly ranked by me, not too fond of More or Less or Line 'Em Up, and I positively cannot stand That's Too Much. If I were one of the powers that be at either CBS or The Price is Right, that game would be a goner.
Rat Race is unique unto itself and I do enjoy it, especially if all 3 rats are won by the player.
Pathfinder I really love. Five Price Tags, Switcheroo and Master Key are great. My least favorite of the SP/Car games is Spelling Bee, but even that is somewhat enjoyable.
I love Let 'Em Roll although the pricing part of the game is rather dull. Pass the Buck I very much like. Stack the Deck is my favorite because it involves pricing grocery items and the car. Hole In One is my least favorite. A player can be wrong on the pricing part and still win, plus it involves a physical activity (golf) which not everyone is good at. I never much cared for "Hole in One".
Of the small prize games, Half Off is my favorite. Punch A Bunch I love, although I liked it better when 2 of the holes had the top dollar and there were "second chance" slips. Shell Game is next, then Cliff Hangers. Plinko I like a bit better than Bonus Game, but I'm not too terribly fond of Plinko to be honest. It seems rare that a player gets more than 1 chip in the center slot anymore, even more rare to win all 5 chips to play the game itself. Secret X is my least favorite of the small prize games, as perfect pricing still does not guarantee a win.
I won't bore you all with the rest of my list, although I could go on and on...but I already have :)
McBevis 06-03-2015, 09:22 PM I've always liked Ten Chances, but it's absolutely frustrating (makes me want to tear my hair out sometimes) how utterly clueless some contestants STILL are with it, even though it's been around for 40 years now. Even if you're not aware of the zero rule, it's still mind-boggling how some people would more readily consider something like "$17,058", before they would ever consider something like "$17,850."
Also, being a miniature golf fan, I like Hole In One, though I more enjoy older shows with it, because from it's debut in 1977 until about 1985, it was kind of like the equivalent of what 3 Strikes is nowadays, being played for more expensive, less-frequently offered cars during that time period.
Golden Road, 3 Strikes, Card Game and Lucky Seven also up there for me among my favorite car games. Also Five Price Tags. I don't love the gameplay of that one quite as much, and it bothers me that we sometimes never find out the car price (in the event of the contestant not winning any chances), but I enjoyed seeing it because for a time, like Hole In One, it was one of those games often played for a car not seen on the show frequently.
Finally, I know I'm swimming against the tide on this, but for big-money games, Punch-A-Bunch (aka Punchboard) rules for me. I don't dislike Plinko, but I just never thought it was as much fun as PB.
mets82 06-04-2015, 03:25 PM Yeah, 10 Chances is a very good game. I've always liked the Race Game and Plinko.
70s show watcher 06-07-2015, 08:41 PM quite frankly I have never understood why everyone goes ga ga over plinko ether I mean I don't dislike it but to me its not really that exciting
mets82 06-08-2015, 04:26 PM I just think its because Plinko is kind of a hard game. I mean the goal is to get the 10,000 but it rarely happens.
LeeBlue 06-13-2015, 10:33 AM My family and I enjoy the Price Is Right.
Rat Race is a favorite game although sometimes the contestant doesn't even get one rat -- and the game is over.
And Pay The Rent is a lot of fun to watch although it is a tough one!
Hawkee 03-31-2018, 04:41 AM My favorite The Price Is Right game would have to be Secret X because if I was a contestant on The Price Is Right and I got to play Secret X I would win it very easily because guessing the prices to win more X's is very easy for me. My least favorite The Price Is Right game "well actually I have three games" is Clock Game because it seems impossible to win and to tell you the truth I don't know how in the world the contestants can win it when it's so tough to guess the prizes while a clock ticks. Bonkers is another game I dislike because it is another game that I can't figure out because it also seems tough as well. Three Strikes is my third least favorite TPIR game because I find it surprising that when contestants play it they try to fit all the numbers to the car price right but when it gets down to choosing the last two numbers of the price you get strikes and lose. I have had trouble with Three Strikes when I have played The Price Is Right video game on my Nintendo DS and I rarely win Three Strikes all the time but most of the time I get strikes every time
