So far, he's keeping up the stellar record he had with the Indians!! TVFactFan 10-28-2009, 11:47 PM CC - always choking in the postseason!! So far, he's keeping up the stellar record he had with the Indians!! He choked with the indians too? Wreckless 10-29-2009, 12:11 AM PHILLIES WIN!!!!!! Yeah we took over Yankees Stadium. Where were all the fans? LMFAO. 3 WINS UNTIL DESTINY, ULTIMATE DESTINY. Hi Solomon :) catlover79 10-29-2009, 12:15 AM He choked with the indians too? Oh yes, during the 2007 playoffs he was so bad he couldn't get my mom out.  Marvo301 10-29-2009, 12:16 AM PHILLIES WIN!!!!!! Yeah we took over Yankees Stadium. Where were all the fans? LMFAO. 3 WINS UNTIL DESTINY, ULTIMATE DESTINY. Where's the kid Pavanbadel? He was talking sh*t before Game 1. Hi Solomon :) Hey I predicted this weeks ago when I said this may be the Phillies year to go back to back! Pavan 10-29-2009, 12:18 AM Solomon, please get away from baseball, because you make no sense. C.C. is a choker? Yeah he was 3-0 in the playoffs until tonight and the MVP of the ALCS. C.C. was not the problem tonight. He only gave up 2 runs. Lee outdueled him. catlover79 10-29-2009, 12:22 AM Solomon, please get away from baseball, because you make no sense. C.C. is a choker? Cliff Lee is one of the greatest pitchers to come along in the last 10-15 years. The Indians made a HUGE mistake when they let him go. ohno: Wreckless 10-29-2009, 12:27 AM Solomon, please get away from baseball, because you make no sense. C.C. is a choker? Yeah he was 3-0 in the playoffs until tonight and the MVP of the ALCS. C.C. was not the problem tonight. He only gave up 2 runs. Lee outdueled him. Yeah but Sabathia is horrible against the Phillies. Up until this game he was 1-2 with a 5.55 ERA, and now he is 1-3 career wise vs. the Phillies. He just can't tackle the Phightins! Wreckless 10-29-2009, 12:27 AM p.s. you really expect Solomon to make any sense EVER? Lol. Big C 10-29-2009, 01:30 AM Sabathia gave up 2 runs in 6 innings. Not exactly a horrific performance- the offense didn't do their part. Tweety 10-29-2009, 05:42 AM The Phills have averaged 6 runs per game in the postseason prior to the world series (55 runs in 9 games by my count).... and they scored 6 last night. CC pitched well (he pitched 7 innings, not 6, and gave up 2 runs to Utley...I mean, to the Phillies), the Yanks offense was nowhere to be found. Only 6 hits, 3 of those from Jeter...and NO walks by Lee. I think Utley could win the governorship of Pennsylvania at this point, if he wanted to take the pay-cut. For the Phill's sake, let's hope he sticks to baseball. Congratulations to the Phillies...one down, three to go. And congratulations to the Yankees... none down, four to go. Jeepers, now that the Phillies won game one, starting Pedro in game two really doesn't seem to be as much of a gamble as it was when the move was announced. I like this matchup on paper, I hope it goes 7, because the two best teams are here. TVFactFan 10-29-2009, 08:38 PM Solomon, please get away from baseball, because you make no sense. Unless I need eye surgery did he not give up two homeruns??? Those homeruns set the tone for the game. And tonight the Yankees are getting of to another bad start and down 1-0 but it's still early. I feel that in order for any team to have a shot in beating the Phillies they had to win game 1. Tweety 10-29-2009, 09:15 PM Unless I need eye surgery did he not give up two homeruns??? I feel that in order for any team to have a shot in beating the Phillies they had to win game 1. Yeah, the Phillies seem like they really get a world of confidence once they get a win under their belts. They are going to be tough to beat. The Yankee bats had better wake up or they'll be down 0-2 before they know what hit them. Tonight's game seems really slow, considering it's just 1-0. And they were solo home runs. Those are fine. C.C. only gave up 2 runs in 7 innings. On most nights that is a W. Cliff Lee just pitched better. Hats off to him. And the Yanks take game 2! A.J. was marvelous! Series tied at 1. And Pedro limps out of the game like usual vs. the Yankees in the playoffs. That 7th inning reminded me of that game in 2003, even though the Yankees got screwed tonight with that terrible call in that inning. Pedro falls to 1-3 vs. the Yankees in the playoffs in his career. Coming into the game his ERA was 4.72 vs. them. TVFactFan 10-30-2009, 08:35 PM And they were solo home runs. Those are fine. C.C. only gave up 2 runs in 7 innings. On most nights that is a W. The main reason they need to win game 3 is since the start of the 2008 playoffs, the phillies have never trailed in a series and I think it would throw them off bit. But since Lee is starting Game 4 if the Yankess lose Game 3 this team will be repeating and being starting a dynasty. And why can't A-rod ever rise to the occasion? Pavan 10-30-2009, 10:51 PM Lee is not starting game 4. Blanton is. Please did you see A-Rod in the division series and ALCS? World Series isn't over yet, relax. TVFactFan 10-31-2009, 12:20 AM Lee is not starting game 4. Blanton is. Please did you see A-Rod in the division series and ALCS? Hamels was terrible as the game went on, as Andy got better. Yanks will likely be up 3-1 in the series tomorrow with Sabathia on the mound vs. Joe Blanton. Yanks in 6 was my prediction, but it could be done in 5 maybe. Tweety 11-01-2009, 07:55 AM Yanks now up 2-1. Andy Pettitte showed why he is the best postseason pitcher ever. Hamels was terrible as the game went on, as Andy got better. Yanks will likely be up 3-1 in the series tomorrow with Sabathia on the mound vs. Joe Blanton. Yanks in 6 was my prediction, but it could be done in 5 maybe. I don't see how Pettitte can be called the best postseasson pitcher ever. He's not even close. Going into last night, he was 3-4 in World Series play with a 3.82 ERA... last nights game brought him to 4-4, but his ERA in series play is now 4.00. His career ERA (regular season) is 3.91 (3.83 in all postseason series). His overall postseason record is 16-9. He's cleaned up in the LCS's, going 7-1 (ERA 3.73). And actually, his only LCS loss was during his days with the Astros. If you want a couple of examples of recent pitchers who pretty much blow Pettitte away in post season performance, check out John Smoltz and Curt Schilling. Smoltz - 15-4 in postseaon ERA 2.67. (Regular season career ERA is 3.33) Schilling - 11-2 in postseason (4-1 in World Series). ERA in postseason 2.23 (Regular season career ERA was 3.46). You wanna tell me these guys weren't better than Pettitte in the post-season? Going back a little in time, Bob Gibson was 7-2 in the post season (all world series, of course). He lost his first series game, then won 7 straight, including two game 7s, before losing his final series game (also a game 7, thanks in large part to a misplayed ball by his gold glove CF that would have been the 3rd out of the seventh inning. It led to 3 runs, and the Cardinals lost the game 4-1). Gibson's ERA in postseason play was 1.89 (career ERA regular season 2.91). And believe me, Gibson wasn't coming out of the game after 6 innings. He started 9 series games and pitched 81 innings. We can all do the math on that one. He pitched 8 innings in his first start ('64 vs Yanks) in a losing effort, but later won a 10 inning complete game in that series. All seven of his other starts were 9 inning complete games. Heck even in Yankee history, Lefty Gomez was 6-0 in the World Series, with a series ERA of 2.86 (regular season 3.34). Allie Reynolds was 7-2 for the Yanks in Series play, 2.79 ERA (regular season 3.30 ERA). Whitey Ford won 10 WS games (but lost 8). But if we gave guys like Gomez, Reynolds and Ford a couple of extra playoff rounds each year, along with a chance to beat up on weaker teams, they would have put all these post season records out of sight. But there's no way Pettitte was the best post-season pitcher ever. Just no way. And don't get me wrong...I'd as soon have him on the mound as most pitchers in a must win situation, but I'd take Smoltz or Schilling any day of the week over Pettitte. Sandy Koufax's ERA in World Series play was 0.95 (57 IP, 36 H, 6 ER 61 Ks). His record was only 4-3 because the Dodgers just flat out refused to score runs for him. 1959 - 0-1 vs White Sox, lost game five, score 1-0 1963 - 2-0 vs Yankees, won game one 5-2, and won game four 2-1 1965 - 2-1 vs Twins, lost game two 5-1 (gave up 1 ER in 6 innings, 9 Ks) Koufax beat Twins in game five, a complete game shutout Then he beat Twins in game seven on 2 days rest, complete game, 3 hit shutout, 10 Ks. 1966 - Lost game two to Orioles, gave up 1 ER in 6 IP. Koufax was forced to retire after the Series in '66 with arthritis in his pitching arm. No one in the history of baseball would start Pettitte over Koufax in a must-win situation. Well I was confident they wouldn't lose all 3 in philly like the Rays did last year but atleast we now now the series will go back to NYC. |
