View Full Version : Which UM story would make the best movie?? Wurider 10-16-2009, 01:09 AM I would go with the Eric Tamiyasu case. That would make an oscar caliber story!! synthisislab 10-16-2009, 04:59 AM That one would be very interesting since there are so many events in that case. I'd also like to see feature length films on these cases as well: Blair Adams (directed by David Lynch, of course :) ) Son of Sam killers L'Enfant Circleville Ed Baker Kurt Sova Jeremy Bright Roger Wheeler and Whitey Bulger Clarence Roberts "Jose Antonio Gonzalez" Pat Mealbach Dr. Richard Boggs John & Linda Sohus Joseph Maloney Tommy Zeigler Sammy Wheeler Mastermind 10-16-2009, 10:42 AM I would go with the Eric Tamiyasu case. That would make an oscar caliber story!! Eric Tamiyasu is an interesting "Agatha Christie" style mystery, but I feel at best it would make an okay episode of CSI or NCIS or whatever. :D Oscar worthy is a stretch 1. The Circleville Writer would make a frightening movie. IMHO. 2. The problem with Blair Adams is that there is so little known about th case, a lot of it would have to be made up. My choices 1. Cindy James-would be a perfect star trailer for some actress. Heck UM even gave them the perfect title-Scared to Death 2. Danny Casalaro/Octopus/Charles Morgan-- There's enough there for SIX movies!!! 3. Tammy Leppert- interesting story that could attract the teens in the theatres. a sort of dark version for the "Gossip Girl" crowd. 4. Liz Carmichael & the Dale - the story is so bizzare it HAS to be a movie. 5. Eliot Ness & the Torso Murderer- would be a fine "Zodiac" like movie. Maybe Kevin Costner is interested in reprising his role. ;) 6. Ohio Prostitute Serial Killer- would be the most realistic and modern day Jack the Ripper tale. I call dibbs on Jeff Daniels staring as the reporter!;) Would be an interesting social commentary on the lives of prostitutes and women in general. 7. Justin Burgwinkel- would be a very relevant story today. It would be fun just to cast his girlfriend Yolanda.;) 8. The Zip Gun Bomber- would be very relevent considering the whole Anthrax scare. 9. Ressurection Mary- could be a very original and intersting ghost story with some romance elements in it. 10. Black Hope Curse- would make a frightening horror film 11. Mothman- I mean a better one then that crappy Richard Gere version!!! Get David Lynch to direct 12.David Stone- would make a great introspective movie about the search for oneself. Get Lynch to direct this one also. 13. The Wackers-probably have to recast as a younger couple though!:D 14. Missing Time- Would make a great TV series. zack007attack 10-16-2009, 03:19 PM I would go with the Eric Tamiyasu case. That would make an oscar caliber story!! The Jesse James Hollywood case made a great movie (Alpha Dog). But cases that would make good movies, here is what I think: Justin Burgwinkel Tammy Lynn Leppert Richard Church Mark Groezinger Kevin Poulsen Liz Carmichael Redwood City arsonist Resurrection Mary Son of Sam Patsy Wright Mastermind 10-16-2009, 04:39 PM Redwood City arsonist There's really not to much to that case. You would probably have to elaborate it and turn it into a satanic horror movie. Kevin Poulsen Probably too late for that one. They should have done one during the late 80s. I guess they could update it for today's audiences. Patsy Wright The problem is that the story has been done millions of times in mystery books. This is also a case with no solution, which makes it problematic. Mark Groezinger The probelem with this case is that the real clincher here is the lesbian angle. Other than that, the story has been done before. Richard Church Yes, good choice. Son of Sam Somebody beat you to it. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1235074/#comment The problem with David Berkowitz is that for all his acts...he's not really a very interesting person. browneyes106 10-16-2009, 04:50 PM The Circleville Letters Liz Carmichael case Justin Burgwinkel case DJ_Foxx 10-20-2009, 10:49 AM They should do one about William Bradford Bishop....the man who killed his entire family and went on the run...presumably. Speaking of which and this is off topic slightly, did the John List murders happen before or after the Bishop case? I'm asking because I could have sworn I've seen a movie about one of these cases (they're so similar). I don't think I saw it on Lifetime though. I wish I could remember more about that movie because it's been years since I've seen the movie. compulsive dvd 10-20-2009, 04:52 PM I always thought the tommy burkett case would make the best movie. Everyone involved seems corrupt. TracyLynnS 10-21-2009, 03:22 PM They should do one about William Bradford Bishop....the man who killed his entire family and went on the run...presumably. Speaking of which and this is off topic slightly, did the John List murders happen before or after the Bishop case? I wish I could remember more about that movie because it's been years since I've seen the movie. IIRC, John List murdered his family about 1971. The Bishop murders were 1976. Todd Mueller 10-21-2009, 03:41 PM Sammy Wheeler.... That would rock! They could call it "Dangerous Liasons". The theme songs could be "Bizarre Love Triangle" by New Order and "Send in the Clowns" by Frank Sinatra. Starring: Will Ferrell as the dectective Adam Sandler as Bob Bean Lisa Kudrow as Pat Haley Joel Osmet and Miley Cyrus as the Bean children Owen Wilson as Danny Wheeler Michael Jordan as himself  Mastermind 10-21-2009, 04:20 PM Owen Wilson as Danny Wheeler I could picture Owen saying "Just by co-ins-a-dense" synthisislab 10-21-2009, 06:30 PM I didn't think she was a good-looking woman. lol Sammy Wheeler.... That would rock! They could call it "Dangerous Liasons". The theme songs could be "Bizarre Love Triangle" by New Order and "Send in the Clowns" by Frank Sinatra. Starring: Will Ferrell as the dectective Adam Sandler as Bob Bean Lisa Kudrow as Pat Haley Joel Osmet and Miley Cyrus as the Bean children Owen Wilson as Danny Wheeler Michael Jordan as himself  lmfao synthisislab 10-21-2009, 06:40 PM They should do one about William Bradford Bishop....the man who killed his entire family and went on the run...presumably. I wish I could remember more about that movie because it's been years since I've seen the movie. Yeah, they did a TV movie on John List. I saw it about 10 years ago, but I can't seem to find it online. OMG, they did another movie on him and Robert Blake plays John List: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0107285/ The one I saw isn't that one though because I would have remembered that cast. synthisislab 10-21-2009, 07:01 PM I would like to see the Coen Bros. direct one. Maybe the one with the inept overweight bank robber that kidnaps a banker and drops his robbery cheat sheet. crystaldawn 10-22-2009, 09:27 AM I think the reverse sting operation would make an excellent movie. LaToyaBoy 10-22-2009, 06:00 PM The Circleville Letters Liz Carmichael case Justin Burgwinkel case Am going to add one to this list....Bonnie Wilder...as long as Lisa Penz plays her original role as the moron of the store! Haha! Love it! Seriously...the Circleville Letters is one of the strangest cases ever. That creepy gun trap on her bus route! I would have rolled out of that town asap! TheGraveDigger 10-25-2009, 12:59 AM The case I want into a movie is Elizabeth Carmichael make for an interesting movie Zlatko 10-25-2009, 02:40 PM The Boys on the Track case would be perfect for a film. Everything in that case seemed very mysterious. Like that guy roaming about in a military outfit. The Cindy James case would also make an excellent film, very Alfred Hitchcock-like. If we could find out the full details, I'd like to see a film on the Keith Warren case. Also, this isn't a UM case but there should be a film on the Keddie murders. The whole case seems like something straight out of a movie. Zlatko 11-17-2009, 01:18 PM I forgot to mention the Marie Hiley case. That case is bound to become a Lifetime movie, or something like that. It has all the qualities of movie. Her life actually seems like a soap opera, so it would make a great film. Mysteryphile 11-17-2009, 02:08 PM I forgot to mention the Marie Hiley case. That case is bound to become a Lifetime movie, or something like that. It has all the qualities of movie. Her life actually seems like a soap opera, so it would make a great film. Lifetime did do a movie of Marie Hilley. I remember seeing it you-know-where. The one I think would make a great movie is Camilla Lyoms (Lyons possiably?) She was a rich, eccentric heiress that showed dogs. They found her body at the bottom of a septic tank after she had disappered. The story has everything==money, the fact that Camilla had been taking steroids to turn into Cam Lyom, her sudden disappearance, her friend (or maybe it was a guy that worked for her) taking over her show dogs and showing them for his own...and the fact that the case remains unsolved. Bleedingheart 11-17-2009, 08:18 PM They could play it out like the JFK movie Show the investigation the trial or parts of the trial and go through all the different theories on what happened sdb4884 11-18-2009, 09:46 AM Clarence Roberts The story has everything except for and ending! DALLASTEXAN!! 11-21-2009, 06:52 PM bordello murders no doubt with the CIA related murders in AZ/WV if we could ever get more facts on those cases. Breakaway 06-25-2010, 10:44 PM The made for TV movie about Marie Hilley was originally on ABC in 1991. It starred Judith Light in the role of Marie Hilley. Gelatinous Goo 06-25-2010, 11:16 PM "The Iceman Disappeareth"? "Angela Hammond in 'The Phantom Phonebooth'"? "Bonfire of the Vanities" starring Omar "Dead Again" starring Clarence Roberts bell83 06-26-2010, 12:27 AM The Lake Wales haunting. Without a doubt. They could call it "Sexual Possession," and run it late at night on Skinemax. I would need to bring an E-tool to the theater with me, to shovel popcorn into my face. Heck, I'd probably see that in the theater four or five times. If they had the girl who played Mann's wife in the segment play her in the movie, too? God...I'd probably see it six times and even buy the DVD. bell83 06-26-2010, 12:31 AM And if they make a Back to the Future 4, seeing as how they destroyed the deLorean, they could use the Dale as the new time machine! That would be all sorts of hardcore. I mean, saving the environment and getting, like, 1,000 MPG, all while travelling through time? One wouldn't have to worry about running out of gas in the old west. Sign me up. Although...they'd have to change the 88 MPH part...if I remember right, the top speed of the Dale was 70. So maybe 68 :D SageSlowdive 06-26-2010, 09:02 PM Actually, Judith Light was FANTASTIC as Marie Hilley! I'd like to see a movie about Angela Hammond or Debra Poe...well, once we find out what happened to them. MegtheEgg86 06-27-2010, 10:44 PM "Dead Again" starring Clarence Roberts  Keith Reinhardt would make a cool movie in an independent, artsy kind of way. Lots of focus on the so-called "midlife crisis", his writing, etc. before his disappearance.. DP1 06-28-2010, 12:03 AM I always thought the life of Walter "Curly" Green could make a compelling story. The woman he loved fell in love with another man when he was at war and he could never win her back, living the rest of his life as a bachelor. That feels like something out of a Nicholas Sparks book. From what I've heard at least. Apostapler 06-28-2010, 08:25 AM I always thought the life of Walter "Curly" Green could make a compelling story. The woman he loved fell in love with another man when he was at war and he could never win her back, living the rest of his life as a bachelor. That feels like something out of a Nicholas Sparks book. From what I've heard at least. It's very a la Nicholas Sparks, except it has a terrible ending! Two I want to add. Dennis Depue: it would be just as freakin scary as you think Howard Drummond: this man obviously was OCD and a hoarder, and that is all the rage now. I think that Hollywood could find an awesome way to portray that. leafygreens 06-29-2010, 03:02 PM Dennis DePue would make the best movie... Oh wait, it already is a movie (Jeepers Creepers)... MissFit29 06-29-2010, 03:56 PM Has anyone mentioned Amy Billig yet? Has that been made into a movie? Kristi Krebs....although there would have to be a lot of speculation in that one too. soilentgreen 06-29-2010, 04:50 PM Has anyone mentioned Amy Billig yet? Has that been made into a movie? I'd be surprised if it hasn't --- an attractive kidnapped girl, outlaw bikers, a mother hanging around with criminal types. Screams Lifetime movie to me. I'd love to see a movie about the Moate/Hotard murders -- opening on the actual killings, then showing how it evolved. Too bad Tennessee Williams isn't around to write the screenplay. Horror movie -- the Cleveland Torso Killer. Mystery Man 06-29-2010, 11:00 PM I'd kill for an Alfred Hitchhock directed film on the Zip Gun Bomber. If only it was possible... Apostapler 06-30-2010, 11:00 AM I seriously had an idea about writing a book on the Church Suicide (You know, "William L. Toomey"). I want to write an entire conspiracy theory with religious undertones that culminates in this character committing suicide in the church. I think i'm gonna brainstorm this more. It will be fun. mphs95 06-30-2010, 11:50 AM Eric Tamiyasu is an interesting "Agatha Christie" style mystery, but I feel at best it would make an okay episode of CSI or NCIS or whatever. :D Oscar worthy is a stretch 1. Jeff Daniels would be great in it. No more Resurrection Mary. Burned out on it from Lifetime. Movie on the Baskin family would be very interesting....sad, but interesting. Joe Sheppard and David Harry Fisher. How those killers lived free in Canada.....there has to be victims up there, too. mphs95 06-30-2010, 11:54 AM I would like to see the Coen Bros. direct one. Maybe the one with the inept overweight bank robber that kidnaps a banker and drops his robbery cheat sheet. The Coen brothers need to do a movie on Danny Wheeler's murder. Can you imagine how Bob Bean, Pat Sneed, and of course, our very own Sammy Wheeler as directed by the Coen Bros. It would rock! No Miley Cyrus. She's a putz. Owen Wilson would be a good one for the flick, though. Have DJ Qualls as Bob Bean! tsny82 06-30-2010, 02:36 PM 1.Clarence Roberts 2.Hugh And Diane Harlan 3.Audrey Moate 4.Missy Munday And Jerry Strickland 5.Dennis Depue biscuitgirl 06-30-2010, 03:15 PM Honestly, I say Tony Alamo! I mean, come on! The televangelist who records goofy albums and puts his dead wife's coffin on display for years. And the glitter jackets and the slave camp? That man is more interesting than a lot of people profiled on UM. I think a biopic needs to be done on this guy. yellowVWchase 06-30-2010, 04:56 PM 13. The Wackers-probably have to recast as a younger couple though! I dunno - part of what makes this case so sinister is that it's a harmless little old couple that is being harassed for apparently no reason. I'd cast Frances Sternhagen as the missus, and Jack Nance if he were still alive... DP1 06-30-2010, 11:20 PM Who would you people cast for the film "Meet the Wackers"? ;) MegtheEgg86 06-30-2010, 11:36 PM Who would you people cast for the film "Meet the Wackers"? ;) Are we just going with living actors or can we include passed ones? I was thinking maybe Walter Matthau might've made a good Bill Wacker. kadrmas15 06-30-2010, 11:54 PM Yes, actually that is one that stands out to me too, Walter Matthau for Bill Wacker. Also, I was going to suggest Eliot Ness and the Cleveland Torso Slayer but someone beat me to it. Apostapler 07-01-2010, 05:58 AM Yes, actually that is one that stands out to me too, Walter Matthau for Bill Wacker. Also, I was going to suggest Eliot Ness and the Cleveland Torso Slayer but someone beat me to it. OMG that would be so funny if Walter Matthau was still alive and could do it. Comedy at its finest...the slapstick antics of two elderly people staging their own attacks. lauracrook 07-01-2010, 10:05 AM I think the Brooke Baker case would make a good movie- young innocent college student studying journalism who comes across a young man who just happens to be a killer. hmmm I see it.. yellowVWchase 07-02-2010, 07:47 PM OMG that would be so funny if Walter Matthau was still alive and could do it. Should Tom Cruise be the mysterious man who comes to the door and asks to use the telephone, claiming his car broke down around the corner? Apostapler 07-03-2010, 04:02 PM Yeah why not? He's crazy enough! carebears 07-03-2010, 04:11 PM Actually wife mother murderer with Judith Light as Marie Hilley was not an official Unsolved Mysteries movie because it does not have from the files of Unsolved Mysteries in the title. The 2 official Unsolved Mysteries movies with From the files of Unsolved mysteries in the title would be Victim of Love the Shannon Mohr story where husband injects wife with muscle relaxant drug Succinal Chlorine cloride or SCH to kill her but claims she fell from her horse. The killer is David Davis. Escape from Terror the Theresa Stamper story about Paul Stamper abusing his wife, shooting his ex wife boyfriend when they were coming home from a party, kidnapping his ex wife. The sleepwalking case where the man killed his mother in law was a UM file movie. All 3 Um cases were originally aired on NBC. Other movies based on UM cases on other networks are not official UM movies but just based on UM cases. |
