View Full Version : Which cases were you personally bothered by?

Were there any cases that made you personally bothered and maybe really feel for the victims or their friends and family because of the circumstances of the case? Here are mine:

Nick Markowitz-he had so much to live for, and it was taken away by Jesse James Hollywood. Glad the SOB will pay.
Patsy Wright-a woman who seemed very beautiful and sweet. ashame the killer has gotten away with it.
Tara Calico-another seemingly sweet woman who had everything taken from her.
McAllisters-Gord was distraught and hoped that the killer would at least get caught if he came after him.
Stallings family-Patty was made a scapegoat because the prosecution was more interested in blaming someone instead of finding the truth.

The missing kids cases always got to me. I also always felt bad for parents whose kids died of "suicide" but under suspicious circumstances (Tony Lombardo, Jeffrey Dingman, et. al.).

But the ONE case that to this day just pulls at my heart strings more than any other has to be Gordon Page Jr.

I just feel so unbelievably bad for Gordon, Sr. and how he would give anything to go back to the day he last saw his son. I know it isn't the most tragic case but it always got to me. Once my son was born, it made it even worse. Just the thought that you are trying to do the best for your boy and then he disppears, possibly trying to make his way back to you.

My only hope is that Gordy Jr. either found a decent life in a shelter or died a quick, painless death. I would hate to think he wondered and died from the elements or got taken advantage of. So sad... :(

The Amy Billig case bothered me. A girl disappears and her anguished mother never finds out what happens to her.

The Dana Point, California, Jane Doe. I'm betting he feels awful now, but I want to throttle that cab driver who thought it was perfectly acceptable to leave a teenage/very early twenties girl by a cliff, out in the middle of nowhere, at 4 AM. I recognize that he needs to make money, but it's still an utterly reckless disregard for his customer's safety. Add on to this the fact that she was suicidal and apparently extremely withdrawn, and it's just ugh. Her life might have been savable.

He would have had no idea that she was suicidal, and it wasn't his responsibility to determine if she was safe.

Def the one about the little boy who was shot when some arsehole shot into his family's car. I still think about that little boy and the pain that his parents showed on that. Especially when they said he put his teddy bear up to his face to try and protect himself. I was so happy to hear that they got the jerk who did this.

Also, the Morgan Nick case...it really amazed me how her mom and so many people could be so close to her and this man take her out of nowhere.

Gordan McAllister as well. He had such love for his wife. I am glad they are in heaven together again.

The mother of Alex Olive (young biracial child who was kidnapped by his father and cult). My heart breaks everytime I see this episode because you can see the sadness and guilt in her eyes. I have heard that Alex may have been killed by his father and I HATE that. I hope that's not true. :(

All the missing and murdered children cases get to me!

The case of Veronica (Valerie?) Johnson, the young lady who went missing after shopping at a grocery store, and later found murdered, always saddened me. She was smart, lovely, career-oriented and had her life snuffed out by some perv!

Also, even though the case was mentioned by someone upthread, the Gordon Page, Jr. case was sad. It was like his father knew something bad would happen in his gut if Gordy was left at that group home. But he listened to the "professionals" and look at all the sadness that happened with his son going missing. Reinforcement, for me, to trust my gut and not others!

Maybe this says more about me than anything...but I'm finding myself not being bothered so much by cases as much as intrigued by the "puzzle" aspect of the cases.

I feel more sorry by people who are not dead by the acts such as "Debbie" and Jennifer Pratt and the Boston Rapist victims.

With a lot of the murders, my feeling is that what's happened has happened and that they are hopefully in a better place now. I'm more concerned about catching the killer and figuring out what happened.

All good ones for sure! So many of the segments really bother me, and certainly scared the blank of me when I was younger.

I think the ones that stick with me the most are the ones where you know that the victim had to endure terror before killed, and I always think about the fear that these poor people had to face; for example:

1. The Oba Chandler segment made me physically sick, thinking about that poor family.
2. The girl who ran through a cemetery to try and escape her abductor, and hit a barbed-wire fence before he caught up with her (I'm glad the scum was finally caught).
3. Roxann and Chrisopher Jeeves- truly despicable case..I'll never forget that even the cop chocked up on television when saying that someone "killed this little boy so close to Christmas."
4. Colleen Reed; as I've said, I will never go to a do-it-yourself car wash again.
5. "Debbie," the woman who was abducted in her bank parking lot and forced to drive for hours while the abductor drank, and then she was raped and left for dead.

so many more.

A lot of the cases mentioned have bothered me. Just recently I saw a rerun of Extreme Home Makeover and Morgan Nick's mom Colleen was chosen to have home makeover. It was heartbreaking to see her still not knowing what fully happened to Morgan. Colleen runs a missing children's foundation out of her home and she received a lot computer equipment and supplies from ABC.

Gordy Page - so sad and I am sure the dad is kicking himself now. But I have a lot of empathy for the whole family.

There was another one where the white nurse was taken in by a black man and his "wife" and she was drugged and sex went on between the white woman and man. I am not sure if it was consensual or not as I can't remember how drugged she was. To me it was not consensual but the point was she her son was conceived that night and he had some odd hold over her....I always felt bad that she did not have more guts to get up and leave and take her son with her.

Then again I would not have told strangers all about my menstrul cycle after knowing them for a few hours.

The dad with the bad toupee who was trying to prove his son was murdered because he WAS murdered.

The Oba Chandler segment made me physically sick, thinking about that poor family. I saw an "American Justice" on this one and that episode made me ill, too.

As for the topic, the Megan Curl case made me sick. What kind of parasite does that to another human being. The same goes to the weirdo who committed the Blind River killings.

Also, the boy who was killed with his teddy bear bothered me a lot. Sad.

Tara Calico. I was nine when it first aired, and I had snuck back into the living room after my mom had thought I was in bed. I had nightmares for months about the polaroid picture of the bound and gagged children.

I can't watch this one. I always get teary eyed during the reenactment where he tries to get back into his father's car and the father makes the choice not to let him in (which he would regret for the rest of his life).

Another case I find really difficult to watch is the Jordan family arson case. Five innocent children killed and no justice done. The reenactments of them being unable to get out is just too much.

Murders of children and animal abuse are cases I can't watch to this day. I think part of that is because I was 10 when Unsolved Mysteries went to series in 1988, so a lot of the kids profiled were of my generation. That and the particularly nefarious nature of people who would hurt defenseless animals or children.

Amen. I could never watch the Mabel Woods kennel fire segment again because of that. Any of the child deaths I find hard to watch now. Not that they weren't years ago, but now I'm even more sensitive.

Even other criminals hate criminals who hurt children. That is why anyone who hurts a child needs protective custody in prison. As strange as it may seem, even hardened felons have lines they won't cross.

The case of "Carol," shot on Brayman Hollow Road in Connecticut. I know that speculation about the identity of her still-uncaught assailant has circulated, maybe even on this very board. That case disturbs me for several reasons:

1) the idea of being all alone as a woman, in a car or not, and having some sicko target you.
2) Carol being someone who tried to help mental health patients.
3) the composite being so "normal" that it gives me the creeps.
4) the fact that they still have not caught the sicko after decades.
5) the actor who played the shooter in the reenactment (great performance) and the glimpse of his eyes in the truck's rearview mirror. Bone-chillingly evil.
6) no one stopping to help Carol or even see if she was okay with her car parked in the middle of the road.

Jill and Julie Hansen. I saw this segment for the first time when I was pretty young, and I remember feeling so upset when Julie's death was announced after she had managed to survive the blaze and being shot. And of course, Jill being shot and being unable to flee and perishing. These poor girls were in their own home and should have been safe. And for Julie to go through weeks of suffering physically (and emotionally from losing her twin) only to die from an embolism is simply heartbreaking. Not to mention that there was no justice served here. I feel horrible for their parents and sister.

I mentioned the Jordan family fire above (absolute devastating) and yet another fire segment I can't bear to watch is the one with Donna Baldeo and her children. So sickening and to find out it was two juveniles apparently thinking it was funny to set fires (and getting no jail time) makes it even worse.

I also can't watch the Mabel Woods one. Intentional fires harming innocent people and animals is just too much to bear.

What really bothers me about that case, and I understand that people have their own opinions especially on this board, is that there is a certain camp that is convinced Rob Shafer is guilty and nothing will ever persuade them otherwise. I just don't see how he did it. I know that there were certain details that UM withheld such as Angela's pregnancy (supposedly), but none of those change the fact that Rob Shafer was cleared by police, and Angela's family didn't believe he did it.

I'm inclined to believe the way you do, that the guy was an out of towner and it was a crime of opportunity.

Add Dexter Stefonek to the list.

I feel this so much because I've been in situations where I've argued about safety with an elderly relative who is in relatively good health and has all their faculties. Especially with older men of a certain generation, you just cannot tell them what to do, and if they are making a rational decision, it's their life, no matter how much you worry. Dexter Stefonek's son David knew that, and you can see it in his face. For his father to be found in a refuse dump hidden and his things scattered around less than 48 hours after he left for home is so sad to me. My elderly relatives never met with Dexter Stefonek's fate, but I remember the worry.
