View Full Version : How do you deal with bullies, and smug jerks??
Brad Russ 08-26-2009, 07:45 AM I've had many run ins with such people, but the most recent one happened a few days ago when I went to the pharmacy to pick up some medications. I went to get my medications, and as soon as I got there, I saw this pharmacy guy belittling one of his employees. It pissed me off, but obviously I said nothing. I had had two prior run ins with this particular jerk before, but this one took the cake, and I snapped. He came to help me and I said hi, I'm here to pick up a couple med...... before I could finish he cut me of with a really snide, wait until you're spoken to before you speak. I looked at him, snickered, and said are you ****ing kidding me??? Then when he looked up and started talking to me, I said to him, first of all, don't you ever disrespect me like that again. You may get your jollies from talking that way to other customers or co-workers, but don't you dare speak to me like that!!! Then I threw in an unecessary, but funny ****, you treat me like I'm an idiot, I have a 142 iq bro, and am probably smarter than you. lol!! After I said what I said, the guy was noticeably embarrassed as I had said this in front of one of his co-workers. I noticed that she had a half smile on her face as if she had been waiting for someone to put this pompous ass in his place. lol!! The guy said not another word, handed me my meds, and I walked away with my head held high. How do you guys deal with people like this, do you take my approach, or do you usually just keep quiet, or do you deal with it in another way? I'm just curious.
comedyfreak 08-26-2009, 08:17 AM I handle things like you did. Not too long ago I was in a grocery store and this manager acted the same way toward his employees which immediately pissed me off. I let it go until he starts messing around on the intercom which they have turned up too high. He kept calling various people and I got so annoyed that I went to the back and asked to speak with him. I told him that one, the intercom is turned up too high and hurts my ears it sounds like they're yelling and two, it sounds very unprofessional and disturbs paying customers. I also told him that if he has an issue with a worker call them aside and speak with them in private. He appologized which I was surprised.
MickeyMac 08-26-2009, 03:35 PM This is just me, but if that guy got in my face I'd kick his ass.

Oh believe me, I was tempted to kick his scrawny little punk ass. If it weren't for the guard in the office, I just might have too. I've seriously never been that blatantely disrespected by a supposed professional in my life. I was literally shocked when he spoke to me that way. I'm no push over though, so hopefully he learned not to ever disrespect me like that in the future. If he does, he'll get a response tenfold to what he got the other day!!!!!!!
Chocoholic 08-26-2009, 04:16 PM I'm not as tough and outspoken as you are. I would have notified the manager about that employee and let the manager know I was taking my business elsewhere. I can't stand people like that.

Well I think your approach is definitely the best way Kristen. I just can't stand bullies, and tend to stand up to them to let them know that they don't intimidate me one bit. I wouldn't care if he was 6'5" and 300 pounds, you aren't going to intimidate me, PERIOD!!! I did report the guy btw, and told one of the doctors what he said, as well as the way he had treated his fellow employee. Hopefully more people will do the same thing so that he stops treating people so poorly, or gets fired which I wouldn't shed any tears over.
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 08-26-2009, 05:44 PM lol I wish I could be like that and tell people off, but usually I just do my best to avoid those types of people. I hate conflict, so I usually just don't bother so I don't starting something. I'm also really bad at defending myself on the spot. So yeah, I'm pretty good at letting people walk all over me. Easier than arguing.
Sharop 08-26-2009, 06:04 PM Usually I would just let them intimidate me - I'm not very good at standing up for myself.

I'm sorry to hear that people tend to walk all over you Ashlee. :( I can guarantee you that if they treated you that way around me, they'd get one good butt whooping. ;) It wasn't always easy for me to stick up to bullies either. It wasn't until I decided that I wasn't going to let some jerk get the best of me, that I made the decision to start standing up for myself and others. The first couple times it was hard, but it gets easier the more you do it. Now I don't even hesitate to speak up when I feel I've been insulted, or worse, if someone bullies a family member. In those situations I actually have given a few ass whoopings. You never bully a guys mother!!!!!!! Just remember that you can always change, and grow, and hopefully one day you won't feel like people are walking all over you. You seem like a tough cookie to me, so I can see you improving. :)
Chocoholic 08-26-2009, 06:33 PM I have a hard time standing up for myself and I tend to let people walk all over me too, but I plan on trying to assert myself more often. I'm going to start at my work.
dawsongirl 08-26-2009, 09:10 PM I wish I could have told him off like that. I just would have cussed to myself and stopped going there.

Haha well thanks. I'm all talk, I'm a pretty big wimp. It's not like a get bullied because I don't put myself out there enough to get bullied. Of course if it got to a point where it was that bad, I would definitely say something.
Courtnee 08-26-2009, 10:32 PM I would have probably done what you did. You didn't give this man any reason to be disrespectful to you.
beautifuldreamer 08-26-2009, 10:50 PM I don't know... fortunately, I haven't had to deal with too much of that... and if someone I have no connection with, and don't know at all (like someone in customer service or something), I'd just ignore them... cause I know they aren't meaning it to be personal, so I don't give a crap anyway. But if someone I work with or go to school with ever talks to me like that, I usually just get snippy right back at them. And in a way, I start to immitate them in a funny way, which usually puts an end to their attitude. :D
By the way, damn, you rock, Brad!!

That was me; I was always just nobody so no one bothered me.
Darren J. 08-27-2009, 02:01 AM I give them a taste of their own medicine. You were completely in the right Brad.
ponytail 08-27-2009, 06:33 AM This got me to thinking about all the times customer service people have been rude or mean to me. I decided no more. I'm not one to give it back to them. But a couple of weeks ago my jerk of a boss started screaming at another employee and a guest at our work overheard this. This guest let in to my boss about how rude and unprofessional he was. My boss just shrank and never said a word. I think he was surprised someone yelled back at him. So whether it be just writing the company about my experience with jerks or talking to the manager I'm going to do it.
TheGreatPretender 08-27-2009, 08:21 PM Little Mel, could you send us all an instructional booklet on how to be like you? Seriously, passive aggressive is my middle name, and it stinks because I carry it around more.
Number 9 Dream 08-27-2009, 11:15 PM If someone messes with my family or friends--forget it. They're dead, lol. One employee at White Castle kept rolling her eyes and talking to my mother in a really snotty voice just because my Mom was ordering food (and it wasn't like it was late or that we had a huge order or anything). I jumped right in there and said, "Listen, do you have an f-ing problem? Don't talk to my mother like that!" She actually looked really scared and apologized. I just didn't like how hostile she was to my mother, who was only ordering food. It's not like my mom was being rude to her!
Then there was another time this group of girls thought me and my two younger brothers were staring at them the wrong way. We were all outside the mall, waiting for my mother to pick us up, so we were watching the parking lot like hawks. Well, apparently these girls thought we were staring at them and walked over, cursing us out. They said some nasty words and we just glared them down, basically ignoring them. We had no idea what they were talking about. Anyway, they moved on and I saw my mom pull up. I went to go explain to her what happened, while my brothers waited by the doors (for reasons I can't remember). My mom saw how upset I was and followed me outside. Then my brothers told me the girls had just come back to throw a lit cigarette at them! I was PISSED. They could call me all the names they wanted, but there's no way in hell I'm letting them throw a lit cigarette at my brothers! The girls weren't outside anymore, so I rushed into the mall, hoping to find them. My mom trailed after me (I think my brothers had gone into the car by then). I saw the girls hanging out in the food court, chatting it up with some guys. Well, I saw the real nasty one (the one who'd done most of the bullying) and pushed her REAL hard...hard enough so that she went flying back right into plastic tables set up into the food court! She fell down on her ass and knocked over the chair too. Hahahahaa, I embarrassed her right in front of all those guys, lmao. And her friends did NOTHING to help her. Just goes to show you how tough they were! I felt so good after that.
So, yes, if anyone provokes me, I WILL fight back. I'm usually very easy-going, but I don't take people's ****, especially if they're messing with my family. Good for you, Brad, for sticking up for yourself!
so elektrikkxx 08-27-2009, 11:54 PM LOL i have a perfect example of a story that relates to smug jerks.
I was at the mall with two friends, Alex and Kelsey and they were shopping for prom dresses. We tried just about every store and finally decided to try an expensive store, and it sells women's dresses, pocketbooks, and belts. and in the dressing room was this mirror from which you could see yourself on all sides. My friends picked a few dresses and went into the dressing room and asked me to stand outside so I could tell them if I liked the dresses. They came out and I stepped into the dressing room and began giving my opinion and even went over to the mirror to see how I looked from all sides, just for kicks. Then all of a sudden, this woman who had to weigh triple what I weigh and looked about 40 came out of the corner (it was a big dressing room and the changing rooms were blocked off with doors) and started yelling at me. She says "WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN THIS DRESSING ROOM, YOUR A GUY GET OUT NOW!!!" and I said, "Do you work here?" and she said "No but my daughter is also trying on a dress and I don't want you looking at her, GET THE **** OUT" so I said "Okay listen bitch, you don't work here, you don't tell me what to do. I'm not even interested in girls, and I certainly don't want to look at your daughter if she looks ANYTHING like you so why don't you make me leave." and she said "I've been in here for a half hour helping my daughter and we don't need nasty teenage punk asses like you ruining the mall" and I said "I'd think you'd be more mature at your age" and she leaned in to slap me and I was about to push her and tell her to get the **** out of my face when a store employee asked us to either decide amongst ourselves who would leave or we'd both have to, and I stayed there and wouldn't go, and the woman was asked to wait outside the dressing room for causing a commotion.

so elektrikkxx 08-28-2009, 12:12 AM MAN I wish I coulda seen that! SNAP!
the funny thing was she had a very loud, shrill voice and each time we spoke we got louder and louder and my friends said they'd never heard me yell so loud!
Cactus Jack 08-28-2009, 12:15 AM I dont like starting anything, or being possibly kicked out of anywhere, so no I dont do what Brad or Michael did. I know that if I did I would probably say or do something that would make me hated LOL. Im easy going, things can piss me off, but I don't get too mad, well at least I dont show it so much niw

LOL wow. Yeah I can yell loud which is another reason I dont start anything LOL.
Courtnee 08-28-2009, 01:27 AM Man, there's this girl that I work with, her name is Brie, and she's like ALWAYS rude to customers.
Let me give you guys some backgroud information. I work in a portrait studio and we take, ya know, appointments and we go in a simple rotation. People who have visited the studio before come up to me all the time and ask NOT to have her as their photographer because she was so RUDE and PUSHY. Some of the stuff she says and HOW she says it is really rude, but of course I can't say anything to her about it because in her eyes, she's the best employee ever. Sure, she does good work, but her customer service sucks dick.

How much younger are your brothers than you, Number 9 Dream? You sound like you're quite protective over them. :) I'm guessing that this happened quite a few years back, though.
