I've been brought to tears quite a few times on the job, but I always waited until I got home and no one could see or hear me cry. She sounds like she needs to toughen up a little and your boss sounds like he needs better management skills.

I have coworkers in the past do stuff like that. Maybe she is overly emotional or something. I do think it is a bit odd. But who knows maybe she is going throught some other stressful things in her life.

I've been crying myself to death for almost 24 hours straight over a lot of the crap that's been happening to me lately so I tend to be pretty sympathetic to her. I think the boss is the one with the problem more than anything. Sometimes a person is already in so much pain inside that they can't help it and they can't hold it in for a while until they get home.

Regardless you wait until you go in the bathroom or home not in front of your coworkers because then you start looking like you are not normal.

It is a bit odd, but the boss is more to blame. Just because you have the smallest bit of power, doesn't mean you abuse it. If that was me, he would be in for a rude awakening. It's like my dad used to tell me; you never know who you're messing with. If my boss did that to me, let's say he wouldn't be walking for awhile.

Any boss who takes pride in belittling employees really needs to develop better management skills. Although it may have been unprofessional for this young woman to run out of the room crying, it is unfair to judge her for it. People can't help how they feel and sometimes they can't help getting overly emotional either. It would have been better for her if she could have held it together, but obviously she couldn't and she's the one who will have to deal with the boss over this so I doubt she needs anyone else jumping all over her for making a scene. I feel bad for her actually.

i think you wanted to cry, Solomon, when you saw her crying- lol.

it's normal. people just have no confidence, and bosses scare them. but the poor girl should of waited until she got home. At least people know now that she is uncomfortable at certain times, and knows when to express it lol.

All I can say is I dislike people like your boss. I have had bosses like that. It makes them feel superior when they make others feel inferior. I feel for your her. What did your boss do after she ran out? If he was a good boss he would have had a talk with her.

The boss is a she and she did talk to her but that doesn't mean she still won't write her up if her performance doesn't improve. The Boss has a responsibilty to get rid of weak links on the staff

That's what it is wreckless, she has no confidence in herself-lol I know I can step it up which is why her threats were not bothering me. All the Boss said was-"EVERYBODY STEP IT UP" or you will get WRITTEN UP" and she starts crying-lol

I can see both sides of this. Some people are over emotional and get too upset over the smallest thing. At the same time some bosses are just extremely difficult hard asses that expect way too much out of people.

OH Nuts!

I can understand her getting upset - but I try to have a long fuse for stuff like this. It's better to wait til you're alone if you can - i wouldn't want to give any creeps the satisfaction of seeing me distraught. I am not my job and my boss's opinion of me is not necessarily the truth. He sounds quite awful & in the end he's going to get what he gives, either thru a lot of turnover or even worse performance.

Your boss sounds difficult to work for, and I couldn't work for someone like that. I'm assuming that your co-worker knew the way her boss was, which makes me wonder why she works for her. It's not as if her boss was singling her out. I worked in corporate for years, and never saw anyone run crying out of a meeting, so yes, I think her behavior was odd.

I really don't know, I wasn't there.

It depends, but there were times I had wanted to cry at work... cause my boss was a BIT:rolleyes:H who was constantly putting me down.. criticizing my looks, my shyness, and the way I dealt with customers.. This woman would not leave me alone! So there were many times, on breaks, I'd go in the bathroom and cry.

So I know that feeling of wanting to cry all day, and just the simplest things, like your boss yelling at everyone to step it up, could have pushed her over the edge. Don't call her a weirdo when you don't know what else is happening in her life at the time. I don't think she's odd at all.. I just think she was having a really bad day.

You're boss is the one who sounds unprofessional, IMO... you have to treat employees with respect, and yelling at them doesn't fit that description. :(

I feel sympathy for overlyemotional people, but I do find her behavior kind of odd. I'm actually the opposite, as I react with rage when someone chews me out or belittles me. I never let anyone belittle me, and that's why my counselor is trying to find me an internet job, or a job where I don't have to be around lots of people, because she knows that I don't tolerate that kind of behavior from anyone. I don't tolerate bully like behavior whether it's a person in authority or not, so it's doubtful that I'll ever work in a corporate type environment. My temper is too bad. I think my job future will most likely be online work, or outdoor work, as I think that would fit me best. As far as the woman you mentioned though, it sounds to me like the poor thing should probably search for a less pressure type job.

I agree that she does sound a bit sensitive, but your boss sounds like a total jackass. Perhaps running out of the room crying is a bit odd, but I can toally undestand. I've had a boss like that before. I worked in a video/record store back in the late 80's and my boss was this shaggy looking guy who was a terrible manager. He was the kind of person that you didn't want to make mad. I think that maybe your coworker was on edge to begin with and your boss yelling "at" her was the last straw. I've been like that many times. I try really hard not to cry at work, but I have done it before. Actually now that I think about it, this very thing has happened to me. It was awful....

I worked in a call center and we had a board where the managers would write extra shifts. Then if you wanted a shift, you just put your initials next to the time you wanted. I had signed up to work a four hour shift on a Monday holiday in the morning. Out of the blue, my husband asked me if I wanted to go out of town for the weekend. About a week before I was scheduled to work, I went and asked my immediate supervisor if it would be okay if I removed my name from the overtime board. He said yes. Well, later that afternoon, I was sitting at my desk, reading a book when my other supervisor comes over to my desk. He said "Did you remove your name from the board?" I told him yes and OMG, he totally got in my face, screaming at me. The whole call center heard me. I told him I had gotten permission but I don't think it registered with him. This is a guy that never in a million years would I think was capable of such an outburst. I seriously thought he was going to hit me. I could not hold back my tears and thank God I was getting ready to go to lunch. The manager walked out and one of my coworkers jumped up and asked me what happened. I ended up not even eating. I drove around for 15 minutes, crying, so that no one at work would see me. When I got back to work, I told one of my good friends, who was a Lead (like an assistant manager) and she and I went to talk to the boss who told me it was okay to remove my name from the board. She suggested that I email the head of the organization, which I did. I guess he foreworded to the supervisor who yelled at me, and he did end up apologizing, but OMG, that was SO scary.

Like many others have said, she might have a hard time in general, so the boss saying it was the last straw for her. I don't think it's nice to call people "weirdos", especially not just because they cry at work.
