Great prices everyone, I wish our Big Lots would get in some of those tv show dvds. All they ever seem to have are a few movies & lots of kids shows. We only have the one store in our city. But I'll keep checking it out.

Big Lots had a $3 display box today which was mostly movies but I did see several copies of Joe Schmo, uncensored (S1) and I picked up 3 more copies of Pebbles & Bamm Bamm (complete).

Walgreens had the earlier 33-episode set ("Vol. 1") of the animated Defenders of the Earth series at $3.99 (just 1 copy in stock). Did not see much other TV fare however.

Also, if anyone's interested in the 1950s Annie Oakley western TV series, I found a single copy of a 10-episode DVD at a Dollar Tree Store -- good deal for just $1. They also had some western movie compilations, like Roy Rogers - you just can't go wrong at that price with more than one film on the disc!

I will visit the 2 Big Lots near me but they very seldom have any TV sets on sale. Hope to get season 5 of JAG if available. Plus see what else they may carry.

I went to Big Lots today for the first time in over 2 years. They didn't have any TV DVDs when I went in '09, so I never went back, but today, I decided to go back and was surprised they had a few which I bought. :cool:

Are you talking about the regional discount store Roses (mostly in VA, TN, KY, and a few other places near there)? I remember those used to be in some of the most random places throughout the south, often places where you wouldn't expect to find any stores at all, but I haven't seen one in probably 10 years... didn't even know they were still around! Anyway, most (though not all) of those are Sony titles, and lately, if you follow some of the older Sony releases, you'll notice that they are slipping out of print. So if you are interested in any of, I'd definitely say get them while you can! I've seen Huff at Big Lots for $3 before, and Mind of the Married Man seems to always pop up at Half Price Books stores... and they can't seem to get rid of them! Last time I was there they had them all marked on clearance to $1 each and they weren't moving.

As for the Buffalo Bill set that you found at a grocery for $5.99, that is very interesting, I actually bought that set for $5.99 at a grocery store myself (Kroger), but that was probably about two or three years ago! Interesting to see value priced copies are still out there.

The very same one, they're actually based in Hendersonville, NC. This store used to be here several years ago and went out of business. Goody's took over and they recently closed so Roses came back and just had their grand reopening a few days ago and now they're paying rent to Goody's for the building they originally occupied. Oddly enough, when the Big Lots here got destroyed because of a tornado, they were going to rent the building owned by Goody's and relocate there but they wanted more money than their previous renter (Walmart) so we're still without a Big Lots because they refused to pay the price Goody's wanted.

I bought the complete Sanford and Son series at Walmarts for $25.00. I also picked up, even though i've never seen it, lol, the complete series of a show called Mercy at Big Lots today for $5.00. I havent had a chance to watch any episodes yet, but it looks like it might be pretty good. I figured you cant beat it for $5.00. lol

That Sanford and Son set is a very worthy set of purchasing. Personally, I always thought of Sanford and Son as one of the funniest series EVER (unlike other Norman Lear series of the era, it was always controversial and made absolutely no attempt to be politically correct at all, which made it much more hilarious than the other ones) and that complete series set has always been nicely priced. The packaging isn't all that great for it, but it is certainly sufficient and about what you'd expect for the price.

Be on the lookout for more Warner Brothers dvd's possibly headed to Big Lots. I stopped by today and found Saturday Morning Cartoons, 1970's Volume 2 for $3.00. If anyone finds volume 1 or any of the 60's compilations, please let me know.

Keep checking, some stores will get new stock at later times and if you shop their regularly, you know that they don't always get the same things. It's also possible that new stock has arrived and hasn't been put on the shelves yet. Food and other perishable items usually get put out first but it really depends on the store.

I also wanted to mention that I've seen at least 3 volumes of Swamp Thing from Shout Factory at Walgreens for $5.99 each. I've only been able to check one store though so I'm not sure if they got other SF sets or not so you might want to check the stores in your area.

That's pretty cool considering that the final Volume 3 of Swamp Thing was a Shout Select title that's supposed to be exclusive to their website retailing for $34.99. I'm definitely gonna check my local Walgreens. Think maybe Shout has surplus sitting around?

I picked Mercy up at BL's a few weeks ago, i never even heard of it but for $5.00, i figured i'd give it a try, and it turned out to be a pretty good show. I was happy i bought it.

Found sealed copies of Weeds (S2, $2.99) and Nip/Tuck (S3, $3.99) at Goodwill today along with a Sony promo dvd of Bewitched (1st 3 episodes, in color) for $1. Can't find much info on the Bewitched disc but it's in near-mint condition.

We have a place here called Ollie's Bargain Outlet (they have mostly been in the mid-Atlantic states but they've been expanding out a bit lately) and the last time I went there, they had literally DOZENS of copies of the Bewitched movie, shrink-wrapped with that promo DVD of the first three episodes, on a special display dedicated just to that set, for like $2.99 or $3.99... they weren't moving at all... probably because the movie was so awful! I love Bewitched, but that movie comes in as one of the worst movies I've endured in my entire lifetime... and I think many people agree with that.

Personally, I would have kept the promo and gave the MOVIE to Goodwill, ha... although I have all of the seasons on DVD anyway and don't even need the promo.

I picked up the first season of Charles in Charge at Targets a few days ago for $5.00, and also bought an Adam 12 top 10 episodes dvd for $5.00 as well.

The Jetsons?? I haven't seen that one show up in "bargain bins" at all! But it looks like it has since people are selling it very cheaply (starting at $7.99 with shipping) on amazon.com! Oddly enough, the only Ollie's here is in a shopping center DIRECTLY next door to Big Lots! And on the other side of Ollie's is Target, and they've got some good $5/$10 deals very often. And strangely enough, with all of that, there is also a Burlington (although they've been lacking any TV DVDs in recent years) on the OTHER side of Big Lots... it's like my cheap DVD shopping center (with, of course, Target also filling in my more expensive cravings)!

Often times... well really every time... the DVDs which DO show up at Big Lots end up being hoarded by resellers and end up on Amazon Marketplace for just a few dollars more. But honestly, you aren't really missing out on much from Big Lots lately anyway, they had a big load of Warner TV DVDs for $3 back in 2009 (that one was a HUGE deal), a smaller Universal TV DVD load in early 2010, several CBS TV DVDs in late 2010, but these days, all that seems to be left at Big Lots is a few random leftover copies of things that have been there for years, yet still nobody is buying, like Kate & Allie S1, Bosom Buddies (both seasons), and Twin Peaks S2 (nobody wants to buy it because S1 is hard to get ahold of, and it is important to have the entire series to understand it). There have been a few random TV series pop up at Big Lots lately, but they are usually just things that nobody wants at all, and even then, they get very few copies. Still, I have a feeling that as many TV show DVDs are falling into out-of-print status lately (for example, almost EVERY TV series that Sony put out when they were a serious player in TV on DVD is no longer being produced, and supplies are dwindling fast... seasons of series like Starsky & Hutch, SWAT, and The Partridge Family are out of print now), we'll see more liquidations of the remaining copies at Big Lots soon.

As for Best Buy, I used to view them with a lot of skepticism, but they've had a lot of nice $9.99 deals lately too... it is hard to believe that when TV DVDs first began, we'd pay $30 or more for each set without questioning it. I remember the very first TV DVD that I bought was Family Guy S1 "on sale" for $35, and I remember the "great deal" that I got on Married With Children seasons 1 and 2 (buying them together) for $45. These days, you can get that same Family Guy set for $15 and the entire SERIES of Married with Children for about $30!

I bought the whole series(11 seasons) of Married With Children for $35 at Best Buy back last fall.

Target, which is where I work, often has good deals on two-packs of TVonDVD. Currently in my store (Chicago) are I Love Lucy, seasons 3 and 4 for $19.99 and That 70s Show seasons 1 and 2 for the same price. In the past I have seen I Dream of Jeannie, seasons 1 and 2, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, seasons 1 and 2, Bewitched, seasons 1 and 2, Will and Grace, seasons 1 and 2, and The Golden Girls, seasons 1-2, and 3-4. I think these are also surplus sets from other chains, bundled together. I've purchased several, and the quality is fine. Target also has single-season sets of shows like Magnum P.I. and Hawaii Five-O (original series) at low prices. I think the selection of these vary by stores. Best Buy often has very good deals on popular series. Last year I bought seasons 1-4 of Mad Men for $9.99 each. This was a great deal.

I was at Lowes Foods grocery earlier and found Johnny Bravo S1 and The Adventures of Aquaman (complete series) for $5.99 each. I bought Aquaman but technically didn't pay anything for it because I saved over $21 on my grocery bill with the coupons.

They're Mill Creek issues but probably can't go wrong for a dollar. No word yet on any TV series being available.


My local Dollar Tree got some DVDs and BDs in last month but I didn't even recognize a single title, noticed they were all Mill Creek landfill material, and haven't thought about it since. But for a measly buck I'd gladly buy some of the titles on that list, even if they are from Mill Creek with their reliably crappy releases. Maybe tomorrow I'll stop by and see if they got any new stock.

Went to the grocery store earlier today and found The Ellen Show and Square Pegs (both complete) for $7.99

I like those Mill Creek "Shovelware" Sets and if I like an episode of one of the shows on the disk, I'll go over to "The Big River" to see if they have any more episodes or even the entire series available. If I can't find it there, I'll go to a "trading site" such as ioffer.com (http://ioffer.com) or sell.com (http://sell.com) to see if any "collectors" have them to offer. Some may consider them fossils, but I've found quite a few gems among them. :D

They were having a 20% off sale today so I went in and picked up Season 2 of Dave's World for $8 and also got the movie Semi Pro on blu-ray for $4.

The only TV set I noticed that wasn't there last time was season 2 of Dynasty.

Just a heads-up to let everyone know that Big Lots has started putting DVD's on their discount racks. They're mostly movies but I've seen some TV shows as well which have been marked down to $5 per-set including:

Not a Big Lots purchase but I picked Up Saturday Night Live (S1) at a local Goodwill for $6.40.

i went to Big Lots yesterday and they literally had no TV dvd sets left at all, just a bunch of the same movies they've had for the past 6 months.

I've seen several volumes of Family Guy along with Spin City (S1), Jericho (S1).
Family Ties (S3) and 60's cartoons volume 1. There were a few more but I can't recall them. They're priced at $10 and $12 except for the 60's cartoons which was $5 and probably the best thing they had. I saw The Jetsons (S2, V1) at a grocery store for $4.95.

One man's "crappy TV/movies" is another man's "classic TV/Movies". It's all in what each person likes. I generally buy only what I like though. I never have much luck at our local Big Lots, wish they got in a better variety of DVDs. I have found a couple of movies at The Dollar Tree that were pretty good.

I bought what I did to unload on Ebay, when I can buy complete sets of The Adventures of Superman, Lois and Clark, The Flintstones, Batman the Animated Series and others for less than $20 each and sell them for $80 - $100 a pop then I'm all over it. I have at least 20 stores in a 200 mile radius that I will hit if a deal like this ever happens again.

I was at Lowes Foods grocery earlier and found Johnny Bravo S1 and The Adventures of Aquaman (complete series) for $5.99 each. I bought Aquaman but technically didn't pay anything for it because I saved over $21 on my grocery bill with the coupons.

Something I'd like to know about that: how did they put 36 Aquaman cartoons on the two discs of this release? Wouldn't 18 episodes on one disc be kinda much? (The reason I ask is because they were 30 min. apiece in original broadcast [which might work out to 22-25 min. in the release], and 18 on a disc might result in some compression issues.)

I didn't know that! I thought each episode was one continuous cartoon.

Yeah, in addition to Aquaman, DC even had more obscure stuff like Teen Titans animated back then -- of course, that group later became much more well-known. But as others pointed out, these were cartoon "shorts," the same way Marvel did Sub-Mariner and others.

Regarding season sets of TV, these can make great gifts too, especially if the packaging remains in new condition. And stocking stuffers -- $3 for a movie or $5 for a TV season is pretty cheap when you compare with how things like chocolates have gone up...!

I used to work in a warehouse where a Big Lots buyer occasionally visited to buy unsold stock -- usually cases of candy. My boss was selling him stuff for just pennies on the dollar. There were situations where the total retail price per case was around $75, but the buyer -- agreeing to take an entire skid -- got them for $2 per case...!

Of course, with foods there's an urgency to "move" the product before it gets stale. But I remember vividly how my boss would offer stuff at very low rates.

Recently I bought some Christmas candy at Big Lots at 75% off of their retail -- which of course already tended to be lower than other places.

Found Trauma (complete series) and V (2009, S1) at Big Lots today for $5 each.

Looks like some of HB sets are showing up at Big Lots again. Today I found Josie and the Pussycats, Wacky Races and The Perils of Penelope Pitstop (all complete). Also found Seaquest DSV (S2), & The event (complete) They were all $5 each.

Seriously? That's awesome! I love Hanna-Barbera cartoons- and $5 for a complete series DVD set? Wow- can't get much better than that on prices. (Except for like, free, of course:) ).

New TV season sets have arrived at BigLots and will go on sale starting Saturday, June 7th. They're priced at $8 each or 2/$14. I'm in that same boat. My library has grown to the point where I probably have more hours of TV & films than I have time left on this earth to actually watch it. I've been pretty good at keeping my purchases pretty selective over the past couple years. It's already a chore just to keep everything cataloged and organized (without that, I'm nothing more than a hoarder). It almost has to be a phenomenal deal on something I REALLY want for me to pull the trigger. None of these shows are on my radar but I'll still swing by my local BL and check it out regardless.

The Big Lots here had few of the advertised shows or maybe they sold that quick. Lots of King of Queens and "2 and a half men" but no "2 Broke Girls" which I was looking for. It seems like after show are released in complete series sets the old individual season packs start going to Big Lots.

Dollar General stores have had a few random, single disks of Degrassi at $1, in case anyone is interested in checking out what they have. They also had one of the Three Stooges compilations from circa 1937-39 (?) at $8, which may be comparable to what you'd pay on Amazon with shipping added.

I have two Big Lots stores near me and the one that I visit the most has lots of movies but I knew that Big Lots had Japanese Anime cartoon DVDs because Dad once bought some Japanese cartoon DVD sets but I never knew Big Lots had TV show DVD sets for an awesome price. It sounds fabulous. By the way you mentioned that Big Lots is selling some DVD's of The Facts Of Life as well. What seasons of The Facts Of Life are featured at Big Lots? Also have you spotted a DVD set of a cartoon named Bleach at Big Lots as well too,
