View Full Version : The "Remember This???" Thread
Wreckless 07-03-2009, 03:45 PM Their is a lot of music, movies, things in life and in general that people enjoy, but sometimes forget about...or on the other hand, it could be just something really good that never got the attention it could of...it could be music, movies etc. ANYTHING. My point is, to make this thread, I want everybody to bring things back from being a teenager, kid- early adult that they enjoyed. By doing this, you can post links to websites with cool items, or good stories, or media- Youtube, Veoh, etc. links to movie, music, fads, fashion, books etc. Like I said, anything would work, it's remembering things that we all know, but sometimes forget or move around, but ultimately love. I'll start. You don't even have to post links in here. You can copy and paste stories, lyrics to songs, or just share stories of what you want us to remember. I co-call it, "The Blast From the Past!". So I'll start.
I used to love this song in the mid 1990s, it gets you going!

Those Beanie Baby Dolls...damn, it sounds corny but we used to collect them in elementary school, as a kid

Brad Russ 07-03-2009, 04:37 PM Does anybody remember Teddy Ruxpin? I use to play with this thing all day until I saw the movie Child's Play, and I don't think I ever went near him after that.
Big C 07-03-2009, 04:46 PM I remember some old ice cream flavors Ben and Jerry used to have, but are now retired:
Baked Alaska: Vanilla Ice Cream with Marshmallow Swirls & White Chocolatey Polar Bears
Bohemian Raspberry: Vanilla Ice Cream with Fudge Brownies & Raspberry Swirls
Caramel Chew Chew: Swirls of Caramel & Chocolate-Covered Caramel Chunks Swimming in a Sea of Caramel Ice Cream
Chocolate Therapy: Chocolate Ice Cream with Chocolate Cookies & Swirls of Chocolate Pudding Ice Cream
Peanut Butter Tracks: Peanut Butter Ice Cream with Peanut Butter Filled Chocolate Cups
Jessica 07-03-2009, 04:57 PM Ohh, I love retro! :D Do you remember POGS?

PZelda 07-03-2009, 06:11 PM You Can't Do That On Television. Even better if you remember watching it in its original run (it was on from 1979 - 1990, and Nickelodeon's splat logo was inspired by YCDTOTV.).
Also, Ed Grimley. I remember Martin Short as Ed, and the cartoon spinoff. That was a million years ago.
JulieSomoski 07-03-2009, 06:31 PM Anyone own a pet rock when they were a kid? For Christmas one year, my grandma bought me and my sister pet rocks. They were so cool (well, I thought they were then) - they came with rock houses, rock leashes, and all the rock accessories. Me and my sister used to take them on walks every day, no kidding. Why can't we have quality toys like that nowadays? ;)

ZeldaGilroy 07-03-2009, 06:40 PM Anyone remember Garbage Pail Kids cards? They were quite the collectors item when I was a kid. My parents wouldn't let me have any because they were "inappropriate."

Anyone remember a cartoon character named Snagglepuss? He was a creation of Hanna/Barbera studios. Snagglepuss was a mountain lion voiced by Daws Butler. His catchphrase was "heavens to murgatroyd". He is also famous for saying "exit, stage left even" which is what he is doing in the above picture.

WOW I forgot about pogs- lol. I used to love those, but I've completely forgotten about them....either that or they've fallen completely off the planet lol
Thanks Jessica
Wreckless 07-03-2009, 07:11 PM FactsFan, I do remember GPK....I was too busy playing with my GI Joe men though, at the time
they are still a fad to this day...for the kids of the '70s

Yes, I remember that cartoon character. He was part of the Hanna-Barbara Cartoon Olympics. :)

LOL, Bobby Moynihan did an impression of him on SNL this past season! I have heard of Snagglepuss, but I think I'm too young to remember watching the cartoons.
TheHappyBurgerMeister 07-03-2009, 09:39 PM Does anybody remember Teddy Ruxpin? I use to play with this thing all day until I saw the movie Child's Play, and I don't think I ever went near him after that.
I wanted a Teddy Ruxpin so bad when I was young- I never did get one though.
Brad Russ 07-03-2009, 10:27 PM I wanted a Teddy Ruxpin so bad when I was young- I never did get one though.
Awww, I'm sorry!! :( Don't feel too bad though, he was overrated. All he did was say the same things over and over and over again. Personally I thought he started to become a nag!! ;)
*Pleasant Tomorrow* 07-03-2009, 10:33 PM I bought about a million beanie babies. Still have them somewhere. They were going to worth sooo much money. Oops, fail.
And I also had Teddy Ruxpin when I was really little. Kind of started to creep me out lol.
Anyway, here's some 90's nickelodeon show openings to enjoy.
All That (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kipmGJCVnYM&feature=related)
Clarissa Explains it All (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-S8cs8_8XHQ&NR=1)
The Adventures of Pete and Pete (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XnqeeBdGhh4&NR=1) Oh man, the mom and the idea of her having a metal plate in her head is still hilarious to me. Never realized how good of a song that theme was until now, either.
Salute Your Shorts (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwoGyVYwtLw&feature=related) Just ignore the random loser inserting himself into the theme.
Are Your Afraid of the Dark (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jitg-3xbmKU&feature=related) I. used. to. love. this. show. And tbqh, the opening was probably one of the scariest things about it lol.

I actually had a pendant when I was young that was a "cage" with a pet rock inside it! lol
Retro4Life 07-03-2009, 10:41 PM Yes, I remember that cartoon character. He was part of the Hanna-Barbara Cartoon Olympics. :)
Yeah, ol' Snag was actually the announcer! :)
JamesG 07-03-2009, 11:22 PM Ohh, I love retro! :D Do you remember POGS?
Yes I do and I still have my collection. I never got rid of it. I haven't looked at it in years though.
Another game I played were the MAGIC: The Gathering cards. I also remember when Pokemon cards came out the interest in MAGIC slowly went away.
JulieSomoski 07-03-2009, 11:25 PM I actually had a pendant when I was young that was a "cage" with a pet rock inside it! lol
LOL! Looking back now, I can't believe how stupid those pet rocks were. And to think they were among the most popular, iconic things of the '70s - what were people thinking? lol
JamesG 07-03-2009, 11:28 PM I never got into this but I remember it very well since my sister and friends got into this. Does anyone remember the virtual pet "Tamagotchi" craze of the late 90s?
I never did see the interest in this and I remember people saying "Watch my pet when I'm gone and make sure to feed it." and I thought it was nuts.

Well, I also owned two mood rings, at least they DID something though!

i miss old Nick :mrtarver:
so awesome! it was seriously good TV lol.

I remember the Garbage Pail Kids too, FactsFan. In fact, they were a parody of the Cabbage Patch Kids! I managed to get one card of the GPK's back in eighth grade (1986), and I remember it was Crater Chris. My parents had reservations about them, too, but fortunately for them I had and started developing interests in other things and never got any more GPK stickers.
PZelda 07-04-2009, 12:12 AM I remember -really- old Nickelodeon. Before Rugrats, before Hey Dude, before all that mid-90s shows.
It was Pinwheel from 1977 until 1981, so I wasn't around when Nickelodeon went by that name originally. But YCDTOTV was one of the first shows to be on Nick (when it was still Pinwheel). Their opening was inspired by Monty Python's Flying Circus - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oO5agWqCvs8 ;)
God I miss that show so much.

"Pinwheel pinwheel, see what I found, look through my pinwheel and see what I found". I absolutely loved that show!! Also loved Belle and Sebastian, and Today's Special, which was also on Nickelodeon. I sound so old here, but damn, they sure don't make them like they use to!!!
Nighthawk76 07-04-2009, 12:34 AM Anyone remember Garbage Pail Kids cards? They were quite the collectors item when I was a kid. My parents wouldn't let me have any because they were "inappropriate."
Same here, Billie. I remember going to Jewel with my mom in either 1984 or 1985 and asking her if I could buy a pack of Garbage Pail kids, and my mom wasl like "Noooooooo".
littlebelle 07-04-2009, 02:43 AM My Littlest Pet Shop was my ****.
littlebelle 07-04-2009, 02:44 AM Bohemian Raspberry: Vanilla Ice Cream with Fudge Brownies & Raspberry Swirls
They still have this flavor it's just under the name "Magic Brownies". I see people buy it all the time. Comes in a purple container.

Haha I had one...or two. Possibly three.

I forgot about those James! Thanks for bringing the short lived memories back of it lol. Yeah I remember them and used to have 1/2 of em as well. I remember I would feed the thing, then throw it in my closet, as I went to bed for the night and the ****ing thing would wake me up at 4 in the morning a few nights . It would be like (in this short, robotic like, annoying voice) "Please feed me, please feed me, please feed me."
it was a crackhead who needed it's drugs, that little computer thing- lol
i got tired and hella annoyed of it, and ended up throwing it in the trash. Or it might not of been that, I can't remember what I did exactly to get rid of it . Pretty funny though!
Wreckless 07-04-2009, 02:09 PM Haha I had one...or two. Possibly three.
yeah same here.....pretty cool for a few days, but an overall short lived fad

I so had a giga pet, or nano pet/tomagatchi, ect. I remember they would die if you stopped feeding them or paying attention to them; all of mine died, RIP
MickeyMac 07-05-2009, 02:47 PM Remember 8 Tracks???
78 RPM records (although I am not that old)

I remember 8 tracks very well. My dad's 1974 Gran Torino had an eight track player and he had about a dozen or so tapes.
P.S. If I remember 78 RPMs, that doesn't necessarily mean I'm "old" does it? ;) I think they were still the predominant musical recording form at least until the mid 80s or so...

you're a murderer Ramona . yeah I remember that; they were annoying as hell! lol
I hate how it always wanted to be fed. fat ass thing-lol
waichingliu81 07-05-2009, 04:43 PM well, back in the 80s at school in england, we had tracing paper, instead of loo roll in the boys and girls toilets, or as you'd call them 'rest rooms' in the US. imagine the agony of wiping your butt with those things- yeesh! and also, in P.E. we had to wear those nasty looking black plimsoles that had no laces whatsoever.
