View Full Version : Reginald VelJohnson was a VERY GOOD ACTOR!!!!
TVFactFan 06-28-2009, 01:04 AM Was watching the ep when Eddie was harassed by two white cops and it felt so real when Carl was in the face of one of the cops. It no longer felt like I was watching a sitcom and that's because of the great acting skills of Reginald.
That's why he was always my favorite character watching this show growing up

Its a shame he and everyone else was overshadowed by Urkel.

That's true! I've seen him in a few other movies and he is a really good actor. I'd love to see the episode you mentioned. Do you know the name of it? Family Matters is always on ABC Family or Nick at Nite, so I'm sure I could catch it soon.

Jessica 06-28-2009, 08:05 AM Yeah, he's good for sure.
Scoobiedoo30 06-28-2009, 11:20 AM Yes Reginald was an Awsome Actor
Mr. Television 06-28-2009, 12:08 PM I loved him in Die Hard. He's always been very underrated as an actor.

I think it was a 1993-94 ep because Eddie was Still living at home
DSfan 06-28-2009, 02:34 PM Yeah, it is most likely a season 5 episode (if not, S4).
I remember because I have seen season 5 more than the all the others lol

Wel, we do know it was season 4 or 5 because of the reasons below
1. There was no Rachel
2. There was no Judy
3. Opening Theme was still there
4.Eddie was not in College Yet
Jessica 06-28-2009, 03:38 PM It's season 5, the episode is called "Good Cop, Bad Cop". The theme song dissaperaed after season 6.

Thanks, I knew it was the 93-94 season because Eddie was still at home
And I guess it made sense to get rid of the theme after season 6 because by that point, The Winslows Kids, and their friends were all in their 20's

He really was a great actor, very underappreciated. He always seemed to put his heart and emotions into the role. Urkel had nothing on him.

Another example of his good acting was the ep when he arressted his brother-lol
He was likke-"you have the right to remain silent"
GARFIELDKOOL 06-28-2009, 08:40 PM Reginald was very underrated as an actor. I love that episode you brought up, because Carl brought out so much emotion. He supplied the fire when needed. He was also funny (when he wanted to be) and was one of my favorite TV Dads. He was fun to be around, a wonderful dad, and a loyal husband. I liked him waaaaaay better than Uncle Phil from Fresh Prince.

I was the same way, I used to be like-"damm he seems like a cool a$$ dad" Uncle Phil was my DOG-lol I liked him too. What bothered you about Uncle Phil?

He was too uptight and bossy. He didn't know how to have fun. He put his job ahead of his family at times. Don't get me wrong, he was a good father figure, a good husband, and at times, bailed Will out of trouble, but he wasn't my cup of tea.

Yeah I know what you mean, you didn't see a lot of family happy moments between him and will and cerlton going to some kind of event like Carl did with Eddie/Waldo/and Steve.
I think that's why I like Family Matters more than the Cosby Show
glickmam 06-28-2009, 11:10 PM Its a shame he and everyone else was overshadowed by Urkel.
Now, if Frank Dungan and Jeff Stein had created and produced this show, instead of Miller-Boyett, Reginald VelJohnson's talent would have been able to show naturally, because unlike Miller-Boyett, Dungan and Stein believed in emphasizing quality over quantity, as seen with their work on Mr. Belvedere.
Jessica 06-28-2009, 11:26 PM Reginald VelJohnson was really into his part, and he was in every single episode of the whole series, and when you've done the same part for a while you're getting more into it, and better.
He was a great dad, like all of these Eddie & Carl talk they had.

Well Rachel and Judy were on season four so that should support the fact that it was season five than season four.
JMTapes 07-07-2009, 01:18 PM Now, if you know who created and produced this show, instead of Miller-Boyett, the overshadowing would never have happened, because unlike Miller-Boyett, you know who believed in emphasizing quality over quantity, as seen with their work on you know what.
You've said this in like three posts recently. What gives?
Furienna 07-14-2009, 08:01 PM Its a shame he and everyone else was overshadowed by Urkel.
I don't think anyone else was overshadowed by Steve.
He really was a great actor, very underappreciated. He always seemed to put his heart and emotions into the role. Urkel had nothing on him.
I have to disagree with you. Yes, Reginald was good too, but Jaleel was terrific! Just watch those episodes, when he's changing between Steve and Stephan, because the cool juice is wearing off.
Furienna 07-14-2009, 08:04 PM [Uncle Phil] was too uptight and bossy. He didn't know how to have fun. He put his job ahead of his family at times. Don't get me wrong, he was a good father figure, a good husband, and at times, bailed Will out of trouble, but he wasn't my cup of tea.
I agree with you totally. I so prefer Carl over Phil.
Jessica 07-15-2009, 03:56 PM Me too.
DSfan 07-15-2009, 07:41 PM I can't believe how Jaleel White was able to talk in that high pitch for so long. It's unreal!
Jessica 07-15-2009, 10:16 PM I can't believe how Jaleel White was able to talk in that high pitch for so long. It's unreal!
Haha true. He is an awesome actor, who did everything to make his character perfect. You can hear that the pitched voice gets even more high pitched in thelast seasons, I guess that's because Jaleel's real voice got lower and he had to work harder with the voice.
Furienna 07-16-2009, 06:05 AM And what's even more remarkable are the scenes, where he changes between Steve and Stephan, because the cool juice has started wearing off. He's got his normal voice one second, and then the high-pitched voice the next second.
Jessica 07-16-2009, 09:37 AM Yes. Amazing job! I know in one episode when he is turning back to Steve again he say "Lobster" He say "Lob" as Steve and "Ster" as Stephan. Just amazing!
rsandcm1 07-18-2009, 02:44 AM I think Reginald beat Jaleel for emotional parts. I also think Reginald beat Jaleel just a bit in the acting part. But Jaleel kicked Reginald's butt in the physical acting department.
Jessica 07-18-2009, 09:54 AM Yes, they were awesome in different ways.
Furienna 07-18-2009, 10:14 AM I think Jaleel was good in emotional scenes too.
Jessica 07-18-2009, 02:46 PM Yes, he sure was. He's fantastic!
Scoobiedoo30 07-19-2009, 01:00 AM I wish Reginald would get another Sitcom
Schmoopie 07-19-2009, 02:52 AM I wish Reginald would get another Sitcom
Yeah, that would be nice. He's been in a lot of movies (sorry if I've mentioned that before), and he's pretty impressive in the roles that he's been in.
Furienna 07-19-2009, 07:19 AM He was in "Die Hard". Where he also played a policeman.
Jessica 07-19-2009, 10:39 AM He was in "Die Hard". Where he also played a policeman.
Yes, he's good as a cop.
