View Full Version : Is this normal?
littlebelle 06-28-2009, 12:31 AM Do you all think it's okay to meet a stranger out in public and after having a little small talk w/ them ask them for their number? I mean this in the way of, a romantic interest.
I think there's a difference between somebody yelling out their car window, making cat calls and such, then asking if they can have their number and what I mentioned above.
Nighthawk76 06-28-2009, 12:45 AM It depends on what sort of person you are, Ramona. Since I'm really shy and reserved, I would never ask a stranger for their number. However, its not exactly unheard of either. I guess you just have to go with your gut instinct.
OH Nuts! 06-28-2009, 12:59 AM I don't see anything wrong with it. The way I interpret it it says "I'd like more opportunities to get to know you better." And that doesn't necessarily imply just romantically, at least to me.
Hollow 06-28-2009, 02:23 AM for me, no, because i hate strangers and i wish they would all **** off and leave me alone.
for other people, yeah i guess.
Schmoopie 06-28-2009, 02:34 AM If I meet someone I like (and I mean in the friend kind of way, since I'm married:lol: ), I'll usually give them my e-mail address. I've been with my husband since 1993, so the Internet wasn't around back then (not as readily, anyway!) and I've never given a stranger my number. E-mail is safer, IMO.

It's not a problem when considering the intentions of the other person.
If they mean nice and the talk goes well and the idea of a phone numbers comes up, then that's fine.
On the other hand, if they cat-call and wolf-whistle and you don't like that, then you can go nuts and unleash any fury you have.
If someone treats you like a piece of meat and you don't take too it kindly- by all means, let him have it!

No. He was a really nice guy that came through my line at work and began talking w/ me. He gave me his number, so I've been talking to him tonight. He's seems fine, and he's super cute ;).

In that case, if I were you, I'd get to know him a bit better and then possibly ask him out to get a bite to eat.
When I meet a hot girl for the first time, I get to know them, then set up a get-together with them.

Yeah, do you think tomorrow too soon?
Big C 06-28-2009, 03:01 AM Yeah, do you think tomorrow too soon?
Definitely too soon.
First, find out what kind of food he likes- the last thing you want to do is to take him to a restaraunt that mainly serves a food that he doesn't like.
IMO, definitely Thursday/Friday-ish.
Also, you should try and set up something with him on the Fourth of July- you can watch the fireworks with someone!

Okay, but maybe it would be good to just get something to eat with him tomorrow and get to know him? then we could take it from there?

In that case, that's a good idea.
If you're going to do it, though, find out what food he likes.

Yeah, I will. It's good to go out on first dates, just to make sure the persons not a creeper, lol.

IMO, if he's the real deal, he's a keeper.
Otherwise, if he's a creep, dump him.
I always have that little bit of nervousness that the person I'm with might have some terrible flaws.
Theda Bara 06-28-2009, 04:50 AM Ramona, I see no harm in exchanging numbers with someone, especially if there is a mutual attraction; but, I do highly recommend that you two have your first date in a public place; somewhere you two can feel comfortable; find a place where you two can talk and get to know each other, and take it from there.

Well, I am older than most of the ladies and gentleman here, and I have been around the block (ooops, did I just say that?) ha ha ha; but, if anyone needs any advice on this subject, I am more than happy to help:)
MickeyMac 06-28-2009, 02:22 PM If a woman asked for my phone number I would immedietly take here to the nearest mental institution :D
Actually I would be thrilled and then give her my number and then if there is more interest ask her to meet me for coffee or offer to take her to a museum. One thing about that is if you run out of things to talk about you can always take about exhibits.
Nighthawk76 06-28-2009, 02:47 PM Mattie has nothing to add?!?!

I have a question:
if you're going out to eat with someone, when is it ever OK to go to a drive-thru restaraunt?
littlebelle 06-28-2009, 03:00 PM Thanks everyone! we're just hanging out today, going down to the aquarium, out to eat, hang out in the park- I'm so excited. We may now tun this thread into: "The dating advice thread, hosted by Tara" ;)
gidgetgrape 06-28-2009, 06:17 PM A tip I read in a Dr. Phil book: If you're going to give your phone number out to a stranger (regardless of your intentions), give them an unlisted cell phone number. Ideally, your billing information should have a post office box as your mailing address. That way if things get crazy, the person can't get your home address using reverse lookup.
