PlayOn 06-11-2009, 01:35 PM I'm sure this has been posted before, but I wanted to make a post and this was the only topic I could think of.
Has an FOL episode helped anybody out with one their episodes? I can't think of one right off hand in my case.
Jude The Obscure 06-11-2009, 04:01 PM I don't know if help is the word, but Tootie Failing her Driver's test, was relatable--I did too

LOL! Me too! Nice to know we're not alone. It happened to Tootie too! :)

Me three! I did everything right except with they had me park on the sidestreet my font tire tapped the curb. Didnt go up on the curb just tapped it
Jude The Obscure 06-11-2009, 07:51 PM I'm glad I failed and then waited til i was 18.......I wasn't mature enough then to handle it.
Nighthawk76 06-11-2009, 08:28 PM You guys will have to put me down as someone else who also failed their driver's test. Infact, I failed it twice! When I was practice driving, I used to go out with my dad and driving with him was like like it would have been for Tootie driving with Jo.
ZeldaGilroy 06-11-2009, 08:34 PM I really hope none of us meet up on the road someday. That's an accident waiting to happen.
And Mike...I failed twice too. And my mom actually smacked me once while we were out practicing because I was crying hysterically and screaming and tried to close my eyes. I was only 14 though. Here, you could (back then) get a restricted license at 14 and drive to and from school or work with it until you were 16. I should have waited until 16...but I actually passed on the third try. But by then I was too scared to actually drive. :)

I got so upset with my dad once, I got out of the car and walked home. He was being soooo picky about everything.

My stepdad was the same way, very picky, he'd yell at me for doing things he did. Little does he know I havent changed my ways at all but I'd say I'm a very good driver ;) Better than some of my friends, I got one friend thats on his 3rd vehicle and he's 19. He's totaled one car and a truck, the scary thing is I always felt comfortable riding with him.

Your friend sounds like the typical Illinois driver. Actually, I knew this guy in high school who got into several bad accidents during his first year of driving. The worst was when he backed the car into the front window of a store. Like the whole backend of the car was inside the store!

Illinois drivers arent the worst by far. Yes alot of them suck but I've seen worse. But hey down here I dont think we're that bad, we all put on tractors when we're like 10 so generally if you can drive a tractor you can transfer it to a car but yeah we still have some downright idiots too. I got behind a guy going to class this morning going 40 in a 55 on a straightaway and he flipped me off when I passed him!!!! It confused me.
Smartboy 06-12-2009, 12:49 AM At one point I heard that the worst drivers around come from Rhode Island. Have any of you heard that?

I was in Rhode Island last week and I didnt think they were that bad. Conneticut drivers I'm not really a fan of. (sorry to anyone from CT)

I can picture it now:
Dad: Mike, did you have to hit that pedestrian?
Mike::rolleyes: Details.
lol. ;)
Bille: I can't believe your mom slapped you. lol. She must've watched "Facts" too.
I'm afriad to drive. Once, I drove our golf cart around the block. It was just me and mom. You have to turn at this ditch to go to the destination we were headed. I turned and went straight into the ditch. That was last year if not the year before. So, I'd say Tootie's driving test is mine as well. That's the reason I don't have my license. I don't feel like sending anybody to the hospital and/or going myself.

Tootie Drives is my mom's favorite episode of FOL. I am pretty sure she didn't remember the episode when she took me driving, but afterwards whenever we would see it and Jo gives her little line about not liking to teach people to drive because they make stupid mistakes and cry when you slap them...my whole family cracks up. It's a family joke now.

You guys should have had my father - he'd let me do donuts in a church parking lot! Or when we were at pipeband practice, he'd go into the lounge after practice for a few beers and let me drive around any way I wanted to in the legion parking lot! LOL
I look back now and it was probably as dangerous as could be!
I actually got licensed the first time around, but the other two who were with me failed (and good thing - one of them ended up on someone's front lawn within centimeters of a huge oak tree)!!
It wasn't until I was licensed that I had my first accident - wrote off my best friend's brother's car in an ice storm! LOL
I didn't drive for about 3 years after that, but then got back on the horse again and was fine. Just learn from your mistakes.
I can relate to some degree though - when my mom tried to take me out, she'd put a death grip on the door handle and dash board that could really intimidate you! Family members shouldn't teach you to drive!! ;)

Well, my parents call me Michael, not Mike, but except for that you're pretty much on the mark, Brandon. ;) He actually used to get on me about little things. Like, for example, stopping too close to the car in front of me. Stuff like that.

At least she let you out of the garage. ;)

My mom would not even drive with me! She wouldn't drive with my sisters either.

That sounds like my dad. He didn't care at all about safety. He would take me out in the country and make me go top speed and then yell "Slam on the brakes!" I would, and once I realized I hadn't flown through the window I'd ask him why the heck he did something like that and he'd say "You gotta learn sometime." He was crazy. He drove like a lunatic himself, so I guess he wanted to pass that legacy onto me.
ZeldaGilroy 06-13-2009, 05:31 PM At least she let you out of the garage. ;)
Yeah...a couple of times. After the slapping incident she enrolled me in driver's ed and made me practice with my brother.
RoryGilmore 06-13-2009, 08:42 PM I live in the country and my dad is the kind of person that would prefer taking a little longer to get somewhere and just cut arcoss backroads and so when he taught me to drive he had me on all of these backroads and telling me where they come out and what conects to what and all and while I was learning I kept thinking this is crazy I'll never use these. I use them all the time know so now I'm kinda glad he did things how he did them :) Three years ago I never would've guessed I'd ever even learn all of them much less use them. One thing I have learned however is you get places quicker by these backroads because theres less traffic, stop signs and stoplghts, so now anytime my friends and I go places I always drive because I know my way around better ;)

It's hard to believe we live in the same state, Meghan. There isn't a lot of country around where I live.

It used to be the biggest mall in the United States. I live about 10 minutes away. I thought maybe at some point you had been there.

Nope never. I got a friend going to Loyola and she's begging me to take the train up to see her sometime this fall so if I have time i might. But it'll be my first time in the city yeah.

I'm not a big fan of the city, but I think everyone should go there at least once. I only go there for concerts at the United Center and somtimes to the Museum of Science and Industry. I was born there though. We didn't move to the suburbs until early 1979.

Hey Brandon, don't feel too badly. I was TERRIFIED of taking my driver's license test...I mean PETRIFIED. I did fine as long as it was just me and my dad or me and my grandma driving, but I FROZE with the highway patrol officer. I failed my driver's license test two times too, and it took me another four years to work up the courage to take it a third time when I was twenty. But, I FINALLY passed. :D  The thing was, deep down inside, I had this feeling that I was really ready, that I had enough driving experience to pass it. Hang in there! You'll know when the time's right for you. ;) But don't just give up and stop driving, period. Yes, driving is risky, but it can also be a world of fun once you get used to it and know what you're dong. ;) For the record though, I know exactly, and I DO MEAN EXACTLY, how you feel.

I used to love the Museum of Science and Industry; was my favorite museum to go to as a kid :D . My parents took me there a lot and also to the United Center to see those Disney on Ice shows. Now though, I don't go to Chicago too much; things just get too busy :D . My dad still works in the city though and he goes everyday.
And yes, Woodfield Mall is a zoo around Christmas time .

Thanks, Leigh. :) I'll give y'all a heads up in case I ever do get my license. Please take my warning seriously. I love y'all and don't want you to get hurt. lol.

My dad and I were thinking of going back to the Museum of Science and Industry, since we haven't been there in 10 years, but then we found out that the Museum now charges $16 to get in, so we're not sure if we are going to go.
Nat's #1 Fan 07-26-2009, 10:25 PM  wow, I didn't know that. I remember it being free to go in but it probably was for me at that time because I was still a kid . It'd be nice to go back there; that little simulator ride that they had and the dollhouse exhibit were my favorite parts :).
