I have a feeling the surprise is going to be David Letterman. That would be very cool.

I heard on my local Los Angeles news radio this morning that there were people lining up for this final taping since yesterday afternoon. Some people even came in from New Zealand just to see the show. :eek: One local man was the first in line; he had been at Jay's first show and had his ticket stub with him from that time. I would hope that he was chosen to be in tonight's audience.

Definitely. I might just be balling my eyes out by the end of the show. This summer is really going to be different without Jay, that's for sure. I just can't believe how fast this day has come.

I've watched Jay almost every night since I was a sophomore in high school - since early 1996!! I still think NBC is making a huge mistake...it'll be a long 4 months until Jay's new show starts...at least it's something. :(

This is definitely a mistake by NBC. 17 years and this is how NBC treats Leno? While 10pm may sound good, we all know just how bad it'll probably turn out. And Conan on the Tonight Show? All I know is that things are going to very different from now on.

Loving James Taylor - he added the perfect mood to the last show I thought. Can't wait to see withat this final surprise is going to be.

LOL - just the fact that they had tickets to give away says something.

I love the end - a very cool way for Leno to end his latenight run. I'm not sure if I can handle 3 months and all summer of no Leno, though.

Conan stole the show, in my opinion. I can't wait to watch The Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien!! The Tonight Show will actually be funny. Okay, that last line was just to tick off the Conan bashers and Leno lovers, but still, it's an honest statement for me.

The audience seemed to love Conan, too.

I cant wait either. The reason I tuned in was for Conan. I think he is so funny and I cant wait until he makes his debute on the Tonight Show.

It's nice to have another Conan fan on the boards. Lately it seems to be all the lovin' for Jay and all the hatred for Conan.

For the record, I'm happy for Conan that he's getting this promotion, but I'm not happy about the fact that he's going to on opposite David Letterman. Letterman and Conan were my two favorite late night talk show hosts.

Without sounding rude or bashing, my opinion is that Conan acts like a clown on Late Night. He jumps around the stage, making stupid jokes and looking foolish. It just isn't funny to me.

But last night, he did have some good jokes and the audience did seem to love him. If he can act a little more serious for the earlier timeslot, I think he'll work. But, I think his comedy will have to change a bit to make it work.

While I'm not going to bash Conan here, I'm with Roby and wish it were going to be Johnny again....or at least Letterman. Actually, I stopped watching the Tonight Show on a regular basis once Johnny left. Jay was pretty good though - always loved the interviews on the street, etc..

Actually I got watching That 70s Show (which actually I've JUST started watching lol) and forgot about it being the last show until it was almost over. Just caught Leno bringing Conan in. No big surprise there. And I missed the final ending. Was going to pick it up on the web today, but I can't (what's up with you Americans not letting us view certain videos on Yahoo now??? Like it's a big security thread or something!! LOL)

LOL - toning down for just a few shows? He's going to need to learn to tone it down altogether if we wants people to watch. Airing an hour earlier, the viewers watching aren't going to want to see a monkey jumping around a stage.

He does seem like a nice guy. If he can stay at the level he was at on Leno last night, I'll watch. He had good jokes, he had me laughing. He just needs to keep it like that from now on.

I have watched Letterman, once. His monologue isn't even a monologue. I find nothing funny about him. In the long run, though, if Leno is successful, I may just be going to bed an hour earlier from now.

Haven't you heard Cathie we Canadians can't be trusted? :lol: This really makes me mad too! And its the same with Hulu and all those sites too. I checked out a whole bunch of those sites one day and it was the same story with all of them. Most or all of their content is not available to viewers outside the USA. :mad:

I think the real winner in all this will be Jimmy Kimmel! People who weren't watching Dave before aren't going to start now. And I think Conan will have a tough time adjusting to the earlier time slot. So that leaves Jimmy Kimmel as the late night destination of choice for displaced Jay Leno fans.

Conan won't make it at 11:35. If he can't scale back his humor, it isn't going to happen. What will probably happen is people will watched Leno at 10pm like they were watching Leno at 11:35, then go to bed an hour earlier than usual. I think Jimmy Fallon would be better suited for 11:35.

This could definitely be good for Kimmel, though. Like you said, I doubt those Leno fans are going to turn to Letterman after all these years. They may just wait a half hour and switch over to Kimmel.

Or, if you're like me, you'll switch over to The Nanny on Nick at Nite at 11:30, and maybe switch to Kimmel at midnight ;)

It all started because they didn't want Conan to jump to another network. So they offered him the Tonight Show as sort of a bribe to keep him at NBC. But then they realized Jay could jump to another network so they had to offer him an hour of prime time every weeknight to keep him in the fold. It's a vicious circle. Who knows where it will end?

This is what makes Conan kind of unfunny to me. He does have some pretty good jokes and his skits are funny sometime, but Leno was the best.

I FINALLY watched Leno's last show last night and I have to tell you that his monologue could have been the best ever. It was hilarious and I LOVED the "tribute" to the "man on the street" thing. That was hysterical! Very classy of him to have Conan on his last show. Not many hosts would do that.

I LOVED the end where he had all the NBC kids on stage. That was SOOO cute! And Mavis (his wife) was in the audience as well. How sweet!

GREAT show, and I'm going to miss him on "Tonight", but I'm sure Conan will do a great job. I watched the first "Tonight" with Conan and it seemed to be just a "copy" of his previous show, so I think his fans from his other show (which was pretty successful), will follow him to "Tonight".
