I'm not sure why CPO Sharkey can't get a release when it has more eps and the same amount of seasons as That's my Mama and also Don Rickles is more popular than anyone ever was that starred on that's my Mama

I agree, thats why I'm trying to put together all the tv series that have gotten releases and compare shows like CPO. I would think shows that have someone before they were famous or spin-offs (like Fish and The Ropers) would be sucessful,

Unfortunately, I don't think there is any logic or reasoning behind a dvd release for a short-lived series. I think sometimes it just so happens that a company holds the rights to something and they just go with a release. Other times, I think someone has a personal stake in the show and perseveres until the release happens.

I think another reason why some shows don't make it to dvd is because they are not available in decent quality or in a ready format for dvd. It was looking promising that S'more released Lotsa Luck and Good Morning World. I thought we might see many more short-lived shows after that. Unfortunately, they weren't big sellers and the studios haven't exactly made it easy for a company as such to license out a show. The stupid thing behind that deal is the studio isn't making any money at all off of a series that is just collecting dust in their library (cough..Sony :p) and someone is willing to do the footwork to get it out there. They could be making something out of their back catalog.

Me too. I was trying to get some of idea of why some short-lived shows get dvd releases and some don't. It seems many sci-fi series get released, or a show like Square Pegs because the star became well known later on. But still, this list seems so random. Interesting, though.

...was supposed to appear in the fall of 1987, but pressure from, I believe, "Action For Children's Television" (Peggy Charren's notorious organization that did more harm than good for children's TV programming) forced CBS to scrap the series before it aired- on the other hand, if they hadn't pulled "GARBAGE PAIL KIDS" from its scheduled time period- 10:30am(et)- "THE NEW ADVENTURES OF MIGHTY MOUSE" wouldn't have appeared in its place, becoming a "cult hit".

Wow! It looks like many short-lived shows are coming to dvd. I know it was just announced that Mill Creek will be releasing a short-lived sitcom spin-off with Delta Burke. I hope this is a new trend and we will see more and more short-lived series released in Complete Series sets. I know there are many Sony and Fox shows I would love to see released. :)

UPDATE (9/1):

Whoops, we guess it was too soon before Paramount's announcement, and that Amazon got scolded for jumping the gun.

Reader Sheryl Aumack has pointed out to us that overnight, the pre-order listing there has been taken down. Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean the title isn't coming out on that date.

On the other hand, it might mean exactly that. We'll let you know what we find out!

Jess Oppenheimer, co-creator of "I Love Lucy" created and produced this 1960 sitcom about an American architect who meets and marries a pretty French girl...and hilarity ensues.

I wish they would put that show Medicine Ball on DVD. It lasted only one season but I loved it at first. Got kind of weird toward the end, but it had potential. It was a medical drama (with some comedy in it) that took place in Seattle.
Yes, now we have Grey's Anatomy, which I could never get into but I wish that Medicine Ball would have had a longer run.

I'm annoyed that these "WB Shop" releases are not just pressed on regular dvd's, instead of DVD-r's. I can not play these dvd-r's on my dvd player, and yet I can play well-made Homemade dvd-rs. I've never understood why, other people don't seem to have this problem. They seem to have a large catalog of shows and rare movies I'd like to own, but what's the point in buying them?

I'm just hoping "Kirk", "Thunder Alley", and "Norm" would be on DVD soon....

I wish they would put Medicine Ball on DVD. I was mad when they canceled it, even though it only lasted one season. It could have been a really good show but toward the end it started getting weird. ..kind of odd the "NBC Peacock" is on the "JOHNNY STACCATO" DVD cover...I know NBC/Universal {formerly MCA/Universal} owns it these days, and it was on NBC during the 1959-'60 season....but it was filmed and shown in black and white

They did the same thing with "Checkmate."

I believe the Peacock now has a totally different role at NBC that has nothing to do with color. It's NBC's most durable trademark and its visual identity now. That's why you'd see it on black and white series' DVD covers.
