10:01pm Primetime: Crime
I understand they are trying to save Scoundrels and The Gates, and that's great, but do they really think Saturday night showing helps nay shows...why not using Tuesday 10pm use The Gates and Wednesday 10pm try Scoundrels next week...Mind Games is already being removed and Castle didn't do anything big this week...
That way they could have left Eastwick alone...they need to schedule Better off Ted and Eastwick for some time on a Saturday...
Pavan 07-01-2010, 11:53 PM Who knows they could do better on Saturday than Sunday (or boost Sunday by a tenth or two). Castle repeats did better on Saturday than the first Wednesday repeat. These Friday and Saturday airings have more live viewing it seems. We saw Jamie Oliver's first Friday airing do loads better than the premiere on Sunday.
I think ABC should burn-off 3 shows: Eastwick, Better off Ted and Romantically Challenged. They could do it Labor Day Sunday or week before (Saturday, Aug. 28). Maybe Eastwick from 9-11pm on Saturday, Aug. 28 and Ted/RC on Sunday, Sept. 5? I seriously doubt Hank or The Deep End will get to air their episodes.
Pavan 07-02-2010, 07:00 PM Primetime: What Would You Do? is all repeats so far from what I can see. So far I have info for July 9-Aug. 13, and they are all repeats. Wonder if any will be new from Aug. 20-Sept. 17 or if they are saving all 11 for November and on?
tvcrazed 07-02-2010, 10:55 PM Maybe they're saving for September instead of Body Of Proof. Are they doing the ALMA awards this year?
Pavan 07-03-2010, 12:24 AM 2010 ALMA Awards are taping Oct. 19 I think, but that could be a wrong date. Last year it taped Sept. 17 and aired Sept. 18. Airdate announcement was mid-June last year, so we should hear something soon I guess.
tvcrazed 07-03-2010, 10:58 AM I completely understand why ABC scheduled CASTLE reruns on Wed and they are doing a great job promoting it. I'm starting to think that it would do better On Tues. There is no crime procedural there. just THE GOOD WIFE and AGT, where on Wed it has SVU and CSI. Primetime might do better on Wed too.
mtlguy 07-04-2010, 01:47 PM The last 2 episodes of Happy Town are on the ABC website, so I presumed this means they won't air.
http://abc.go.com/shows/happy-town
Pavan 07-04-2010, 03:58 PM No, they won't air. I think I tweeted that, but forgot to mention that here. happy town was ABC Studios, so easy for them to put on abc.com. Something like Eastwick and Romantically Challenged would be tough to put online since they are from Warner.

tvcrazed 07-07-2010, 11:23 AM wouldnt be surprised if Downfall is removed off of Tuesdays effective today and Shark Tank new one airing next week with a rerun follow week.
I could see/and would hope that Wipeout encores Thurs at 8p all Summer
Pavan 07-07-2010, 11:28 AM I think they want to test Shark Tank to see if they want another season, so they would need more than just 2 weeks to test. But I would air the new one after Wipeout on Tuesday, too, and then promote the repeats for a few Thursdays.
tvcrazed 07-07-2010, 12:00 PM why? if it airs after WIPEOUT and holds enough (or more than Downfall and ISAJGS) they have their answer. ST has NEVER had a lead in. BY itself on Thurs at 8p and against BB it's not gonna get much mroe than a 1. They are extending Wipeout on Thurs for Rookie Blue. The minute they remove it. RB goes down. They know it. Now those 2 work well together. ABC is finally a player on Thurs in Summer. Why wouldnt you want WIPEOUT encores there rest of Summer. Plus it will give ABC a rating on Thurs. ST aired on Sun, Tues and Fri it never got above a 1.9. After being off the air for so long and airing in the 8p hour a rerun will not get a good score, so why hurt the whole night. I say all this as a massive ST fan that wants the show to come back. I would immediately put ST on Tues after WIPEOUT. Downfall is done. We all know it. Move on and give the slot to something worthy of that lead in.
tvcrazed 07-07-2010, 12:10 PM also they had 14 weeks to know if they want another season. they dont need to test. plus if theyre doing it to test, wouldnt giving it a lead be a true test of its potential as opposed to airing in the 8p slot against BB?
BTW, WIPEOUT had a 3.1 second half, then DOWNFALL had a 1.4 then a 1.1 second half. Primetime got a 1.2. If that Downfall score isnt evidence enough that people are fleeing in droves I dont know what is. Whats the advantage of keeping it there for 2 more weeks. They have a powerful lead in at 8 and then send the viewers elsewhere after. Even if they dont put ST there, they should air a Wipeout encore there (take the Sat one off in favor of AFV).
I cant imagine you would argue for Downfall to remain in their anchor position
A shame they didnt air Jake Vienna last night after Wipeout
Pavan 07-07-2010, 12:25 PM I am just telling you what I heard from them about Shark Tank, that they want to test it. I am not saying it should air Thurs at 8. I think Downfall will air next week (again not what I would do, just what I think they will do) and then on July 20 I think they will pull Downfall and probably air the all-new Shark Tank there and just have Wipeout repeats on Thursdays at 8 starting July 29. I don't think they will have enough episodes for more originals on Thursdays beyond July 22. ABC has done a good job in scheduling Wipeout so far, I think.
Anyway, blog story on the changes made today: http://blog.sitcomsonline.com/2010/07/abc-adds-more-new-wipeout-on-thursday.html

If you're going to pull the July 27 Downfall episode, they might as well pull the entire show. I agree with tvcrazed, Shark Tank should it's new episode next Tuesday which will help Primetime.
Since it's summer, ABC scheduling department should send themselves to boot camp to relearn their job.

they only ordered 18 eps of WIPEOUT (why they dont order 22-24 i dont know) so there will need to be another rerun on Tues to get them til Sep unless, they do some type of compilation ep like they did end of 1st season.
They have done a good job scheduling it, although wasting eps on Sat as oppossed to during the week or Sun still doesnt make sense to me.
Pavan 07-07-2010, 02:08 PM Since Wipeout is adding 2 extra all-new Thursday airings, it is a repeat on Tuesday, July 13 (opposite MLB All-Star Game) and Tuesday, July 27 (the two-hour Blind Date episode). So there will be no need for any repeats after that on Tuesdays, unless more air on Thursday.
As for Downfall, their best contestant came on at the end of the episode this week and she could win a lot of money by the next episode, so that is why I don't think they will pull it next week. I think they will pull it on July 20 maybe. And if Shark Tank airs next week after a Wipeout repeat (and opposite the MLB All-Star Game), you all will be complaining I think. It is best to air Shark Tank on July 20. And yet another reason why I don't think Downfall will be pulled for next week (rerun of Wipeout at 8 and MLB All-Star Game airing).
icecream 07-07-2010, 02:18 PM When the Wipeout episodes get to once a week ABC would be better off airing repeats on Tuesdays and moving the new episodes to Thursdays. Rookie Blue will be helped by the lead-in more than Downfall or Shark Tank. Plus there's higher ad revenue available on Thursday.
tvcrazed 07-07-2010, 02:51 PM And if Shark Tank airs next week after a Wipeout repeat (and opposite the MLB All-Star Game), you all will be complaining I think. Uh I will be complaining/questioning if they surrender, yeah. I'm not saying anything crazy here, you make it sound like I am. So in other words if I dare question their scheduling moves, it's sacrilige. Theres no point to airing Downfall anymore, either way, they'll only lessen their numbers and it's not like there's passion for Downfall. It's not Better Off Ted.
2 Wipeout reruns next Tuesday would do better and would help their 10pm, remember that's their job to get ratings. You see that's my point. At this point they send their viewers away at 9p. Oh and if theres a Wipeout rerun at 8, the numbers will be lower and the DOWNFALL numbers will be under a 1. Even more reason to pull the show stat. You dont just surrender. You can make fun of NBC all you want but the changes they make on Summer schedule are to bolster their schedule the best it can be.
Frankly I dont really care where they air ST. I just meant they shouldnt air it on Thurs instead of Wipeout encores and I just meant if they're gonna air it, at least give it a lead in for the one airing. Shark Tank is a show worth getting behind. Downfall isn't. ST got a 1.9 with no lead in. Downfall got a 1.3 (or 1.2 im sure in finals) with a 3.1. This isn't that crazy here. Sorry if I have the nerve to criticize ABC scheduling.
Pavan 07-07-2010, 04:15 PM Are you ok today? I wasn't looking for an argument. I was just pointing out that next Tuesday Wipeout is a repeat now and the MLB All-Star Game is on, so it is best NOT to air a new Shark Tank then. That's all what I meant. I never said to keep Downfall on, I am just giving you a reason why I think they will keep it on next week.
tvcrazed 07-07-2010, 04:58 PM I am never looking for an argument, but you made that "you'll be complaing about that too" line, so it made me defensive. Plus many times when I criticize their scheduling you get defensive (like one cant question anything about ABC's decisions, who in terms of scheduling, they raise many questions) and everytime I think of writing a suggestion here/or expressing shock at some of their scheduling, in the back of my mind I'm already expecting you to have a problem with it. So I am not looking for an argument at all, but that comment made me defensive. Honestly I go through periods where I dont want to comment at all, because of that. Im just being honest.
My suggestions with ST were just a means of getting Downfall off. Honestly they could schedule two eps of MF after the Wipeout rerun and that would be an improvement. I am less invested in ST airing Tues at 9 at this point was just suggesting it as 1)yanking Downfall off now and 2) leaving Wipeout reruns or some kind of lead in Thurs at 8 (not ST).
Suggesting ST Tues at 9 was borne out of 1) give it one shot with a lead in 2) theres no way itll do worse than Downfall and 3) at least its a good show.
Oh and also my point was, it's still not a reason to keep Downfall on another week. if anything it's more a reason to get it off, because with a rerun lead in, its minscule numbers will be smaller.
Not looking for an argument at all. All said with peace in mind, just being honest.
Pavan 07-07-2010, 05:04 PM I said you all would be complaining, I didn't meant just you...
You all wanted Shark Tank there next week, but I don't think any of you realized Wipeout is a repeat next Tuesday and the MLB All-Star game is on. I am fine with two Wipeout repeats from 8-10 next Tuesday. I don't think it will happen though.
tvcrazed 07-07-2010, 05:07 PM did you realize it was a rerun?
again it was just a suggestion to get Downfall off. I honestly dont care where they air the last new ST.
Again, whatever they air there, there is no logical reason why Downfall should be the show airing there.
I feel silly at this point going on about this. Sorry
Pavan 07-07-2010, 05:12 PM Wipeout was changed to a rerun next Tuesday when these schedules changes were made this morning. That is when I found out. I didn't mention it then, but later mentioned it when you said there would be another repeat after July 27.
tvcrazed 07-07-2010, 05:14 PM ok, thanks
tvcrazed 07-12-2010, 11:46 AM I know Downfall is scheduled for this Tues, but ABC could always do 2 Wipeout reruns, OR they could always do AFV at 8p into Wipeout at 9p. AFV got a 1.4 at 7p last night - ABCs highest rated show.
Pavan 07-12-2010, 02:09 PM ABC/Global has renewed Rookie Blue for a second season!
Locked and Loaded: Canwest and ABC Announce Early Renewal of Summer's Hottest New Hit, Rookie Blue
Homegrown Series Sets New Record as Biggest Canadian Drama Premiere on Any Network in Over a Decade
TORONTO, July 12 -- Today, Canwest and ABC jointly announced the renewal of this summer's biggest new series, Rookie Blue. The sexy hit Canadian drama was greenlit for a second season only three weeks following the ground-breaking premiere on Global Television and ABC.
A bullet-proof winner since its debut, Rookie Blue has hooked a combined weekly average of 8.5 million viewers on both sides of the border, and has garnered a rap sheet full of critics' accolades. Sparked by this extraordinary response to the new blue, the second season is currently in development and will move into production in Toronto later this summer.
"We are so proud of Rookie Blue's amazing success and are thrilled to announce its renewal alongside ABC," said Barbara Williams, Executive Vice-President of Content, Canwest Broadcasting. "This homegrown series has delivered record-setting audiences, and we're looking forward to giving fans even more of these fresh characters and gripping storylines in season two."
In Canada, the series premiere garnered a record-breaking 2.1 million viewers on Global (Ind 2+, national - up from the preliminary overnight number of 1.8 million) - the highest-rated premiere for a Canadian drama series on any network in over a decade. Bolstered by an extensive marketing campaign across the country, Rookie Blue is the most successful original Canadian drama ever commissioned by Canwest.
"We're very pleased that the show has connected with viewers, especially considering the challenge of finding an audience in the summer," said Quinn Taylor, Senior Vice-President, Movies, Miniseries and Acquisitions, ABC Entertainment Group, "and thrilled to pick it up for a second season."
Rookie Blue was developed by Thump Inc. and produced in partnership with leading indie studio and distributor, E1 Entertainment. The series is executive produced by award-winning Tassie Cameron (Flashpoint), Ilana Frank (The Eleventh Hour, Would Be Kings), Noreen Halpern (Hung, Haven), John Morayniss (Hung, Haven) and David Wellington (The Eleventh Hour, Would Be Kings).
"The creative troika of Tassie, David and Ilana is the secret behind the out-of-the-gate success of Rookie Blue," said Noreen Halpern, President of Dramatic Programming, E1 Television. "They tell heartfelt, immersive human stories burnished with a sexy, glossy pop sheen. We're thrilled that the stars seem to have aligned on this project, and that Canwest and ABC have been such incredible partners."
E1 owns worldwide distribution rights for its TV productions and markets its programs to broadcasters, digital outlets and retailers around the globe. Along with the sales to ABC and Canwest, the exclusive global pay-TV rights (excluding U.S., Canada, France and Germany) for Rookie Blue were previously acquired by Universal Networks International, the global channels division of NBC Universal.
Rookie Blue follows the lives of five inexperienced rookies thrown into the world of big city policing. The series examines the trials and triumphs, competition and camaraderie of this rookie family learning that no amount of training can prepare them for this job - or for life.
Shot entirely on location in Toronto, Rookie Blue features a diverse lineup of Canadian actors including Missy Peregrym (Reaper, Heroes), Gregory Smith (Everwood), Charlotte Sullivan (M.V.P.), Enuka Okuma (24) and Travis Milne (My Green House). Rounding out the cast is Ben Bass (Would Be Kings), Eric Johnson (Smallville), Matt Gordon (Rent-A-Goalie), Noam Jenkins (Flashpoint) and Melanie Nicholls King (The Wire).
Rookie Blue airs Thursdays at 9pm ET/PT on Global and ABC. In this week's episode, "Signals Crossed" (Thursday, July 15), Andy (Missy Peregrym) trades in her uniform for something more risqué when she goes undercover as a prostitute. Tensions run high when Dov (Gregory Smith) puts an informant's life in jeopardy and it's up to Andy to infiltrate a risky gun deal in progress to save her.
Viewers can catch up on the first three episodes of Rookie Blue at www.GlobalTV.com.
Missy Peregrym will be on TBS talk show "LOPEZ TONIGHT" on Tuesday (July 13).

benjamoon 07-12-2010, 04:19 PM Good for Rookie Blue - it's nice to see a summer series gaining a following, even though I have not watched it yet
Will this be for the actual season? It might work well if/when "The Whole Truth" flops

Pavan 07-15-2010, 05:21 PM ABC News' Head Cases title has now changed to Nightline Prime: Secrets of the Mind. Everything else remains the same, with the premiere date still Thursday, Aug. 19 at 10|9c.
tvcrazed 07-18-2010, 01:15 PM I hope the .7 that Wipeout (only .2 above Persons Unknown) got on Sat nite is enough to convince ABC to stop wasting these 2nd runs on sat night and leave it on Tues and Thurs til Sep. A rerun of Wipeout on Tues got the same score. Airing these on Sat is a waste. AFv got the same or higher score. I assume this week they will make plans to leave Wipeout Thurs at 8p thru the whole Summer. Although just cause it makes sense to me, doesn't mean they'll do it.
Pavan 07-18-2010, 05:25 PM I agree and I think they will keep Wipeout on Thursdays (but now probably just repeats) starting July 29. Shark Tank repeats maybe Fridays at 8? Wife Swap finishes its season after its Aug. 13 airing. That was the first Saturday repeat though for Wipeout this season and it is not on next Saturday. It wasn't a "waste" this Saturday, since it aired on BOTH Tuesday and Thursday this week. Yet the 3 airings are still not as much as NBC airing America's Got Talent.
yankeesrj12 07-18-2010, 11:32 PM I hope the .7 that Wipeout (only .2 above Persons Unknown) got on Sat nite is enough to convince ABC to stop wasting these 2nd runs on sat night and leave it on Tues and Thurs til Sep.
Wipeout actually had a 1.0 demo last night (Marc Berman over at pifeedback updated his numbers), so it wasn't all that bad for Wipeout. Sure the numbers aren't great, but it was enough for a 2nd place finish in its slot.
Pavan 07-19-2010, 08:30 PM Nightline Prime: Secrets of the Mind title has changed again and is now titled NightlinePrime: Secrets Of Your Mind - Why We Do What We Do. Everything else remains the same, with the premiere date still Thursday, Aug. 19 at 10|9c.
Schedule change:
Wipeout repeats have been removed from Saturdays at 8pm and the movies will now air 8-10pm starting July 31 (a movie was already scheduled for 8-10pm on July 24). Castle Saturday repeats at 10pm will be replaced by Rookie Blue repeats now starting July 24. This line-up will air on July 24, 31, Aug. 7 and 14. Previously announce NASCAR race is on Aug. 21 and as of now on Aug. 28 it is repeats of AFV/Wipeout/Castle, before College Football starts on Sept. 4.
The movie titles are the same as previously announced - July 24: The Game Plan (network television premiere); July 31: Flight Plan; August 7: Red Eye; August 14: Meet the Fockers
JulieSomoski 07-19-2010, 10:51 PM ^ Is that long of a title really necessary? ABC News' Head Cases was much better. Lol.
Du Mont 07-19-2010, 11:32 PM Pretty please, ABC, don't forget about those two unaired 'Better Off Ted' episodes:
#2APX10: "Swap the Dog"
#2APX11: "It's My Party and I'll Lie If I Want To"
At this point, I'd even accept a Saturday or Sunday afternoon slot, perhaps paired up with a couple of 'Hank's.
tvcrazed 07-21-2010, 11:57 AM It's time to stop with the Primetime. It dud badly last Summer too. A.9 is unacceptable. A Castle rerun does the same number gets more money for them and gives mote exposure to it. Either that or Shark Tank or MF reruns.
Wonder why ABC hasn't yet changed Wipeout for Thursdays after this week. It would make zero sense not to, as Rookie Blue and whole night would collapse.
Pavan 07-21-2010, 01:31 PM tvcrazed, Primetime last night was BORING. That's why it went down and I could have told you last night expect bad ratings. It all depends on the story and the previous two weeks it was very interesting. I have watched all three so far and last night was just different. It was more like a documentary. It will be back up next week, I'm sure. I'm looking forward to Primetime: Crime. They have great stories. I would rather watch Primetime than repeats and I think it will do better without a Downfall lead-in. Shaq Vs. will do close to a 2.
ABC News does a good job with Primetime, but last night was boring. I think Downfall was the problem, but I think Shaq Vs. will do much better. It's too bad it can't air right after the Finals ends, but that wasn't possible due to the NBA season. Primetime: FS is doing just as good as Boston Med, just not this week.
tvcrazed 07-21-2010, 01:57 PM Boston Med is high caliber and critically acclaimed. I dont mind them sticking witha show like that. Primetime Crime didnt do as well last Summer either. Basically my annoycance is they have a 3.2 at 8:30 and then send viewers away for the rest of the night. Im sure Downfall didn't help (and you know my feelings on leaving that mess there) but it never gets above a 1.3. It's not gonna bring in as much revenue and CASTLE or MF and those shows have higher potential with repeated viewings, especially since outside AGT there's barely any comp as opposed to Wed. If they have to air primetime, the one series that used toi get buzz and do better was Medical Mysteries but they're not producing any of those. Basically my point is I hate to see them surrender which is what they have been doing the past 4-5 weeks after having a huge lead in at 8p.
It's also why I am perplexed that they are leaving ST on Thurs. They finally are a player on this night in Summer, yet if they remove WIPEOUT, it's over.
Pavan 07-21-2010, 02:12 PM They are already airing Castle on Wednesdays, so why remove Primetime on Tuesdays when it will do better? Primetime: Crime did just about as good last year as it did in 2008:
2009, Wed at 10: 1.4, 2.0, 1.6, 1.3, 1.5, 1.6, 2.1, 1.2 (first four after Japanese Game Show, 1.5 & 1.6 was after WWTBAM/Wipeout, 2.1 was after Crash Course, and 1.2 was after Wipeout: Australia and Presidential Address was at 8)
2008, Wed at 10: 1.9, 1.8, 1.8, 1.9, 2.1, 1.9, 1.3, 1.4 (all after Supernanny repeats)
I don't think Castle repeats would do a 1.3. Primetime is produced by ABC News, so it already is high caliber. I don't see a problem with Primetime airing at 10 on Tuesdays. Downfall was the problem and now it is gone. So let's wait and see now. Don't be quick trigger happy yet. I don't think you'll see a 0.9 again for Primetime, that was a fluke (boring and different from the normal episode). Primetime: Mind Games wasn't good, though. I like Crime, WWYD the best out of these limited series. Yes, Medical Mysteries was good, too. Family Secrets and Outsiders usually depend on the story.
I agree with you that Wipeout should remain on Thursdays as well. I hope they change it soon.
tvcrazed 07-21-2010, 02:18 PM I didnt say it would do better I said it would do as well and it means more to their bottom line than Primetime.
I think you know what my point was, which is the same point I usually make. I am aware there are nights the numbers are gonna be lower. I'm not calling them to rip apart Sundays, even though the #'s are low. Right now Mon, Tues and Thurs have signs of life on them which is better than ever for ABC in Summer. Good for them. I think it's important to leave Wed as is too.
So my whole point was this: Try to get the best bang out of your buck on Tues (meaning use that Lead in at 8p to your advantage) and LEAVE WIPEOUT THURS at 8p rest of Summer.
Pavan 07-21-2010, 02:24 PM I see your point, but why not wait until Shaq Vs. airs first. That show last year on its own was around a 2 in its second half. I think it will do just as good, if not better, with Wipeout as its lead-in. I am waiting for them to announce Wipeout Thurs will remain. As I said earlier, Wife Swap ends its season after Aug. 13, so they can air Shark Tank on Fridays at 8 starting Aug. 20. They are also doing well on Fridays, don't forget.
tvcrazed 07-21-2010, 02:30 PM yes, ur right, it should do better than Downfall as it had a 1.8 its first few weeks with no lead in. I guess I was reacting to the the pattern for them so far which has been to fall apart at 9p and if it were me, knowing I had the powerful 8p show, I would have rearranged things to take advantage of that.
The truth is, if they just left WIPEOUT Thursdays I prob wouldnt have even commented. My hunch at this point is that they are not gonna because why wouldnt they have changed that when they made their other modifications this week. They know what they're gonna do with Wipeout, they know what they're gonna do with ST reruns (as originals never cracked a 2.0 and that was with promotion etc). SO I guess it's almost a week and they havent announced it, makes me think ST is staying there and I guess I find that baffling. Your suggestions about Fri make sense.
Pavan 07-21-2010, 02:35 PM Also, I don't see the new episode of Shark Tank scheduled even. If it airs next Thursday, they have a repeat scheduled. If they remove ST again, it will be by Friday, so we still have two days to see if they do. I doubt they would pull it early next week, so it will have to be by this Friday.
tvcrazed 07-21-2010, 02:55 PM yeah I noticed that too which was whny I was still assuming/hoping they were gonna pull it in favor of WIPEOUT. SInce they havent yet, is why Im starting to think its staying, but maybe youre right.
Pavan 07-21-2010, 04:30 PM ABC has scheduled a movie on Sunday, Aug. 29:
Sunday, August 29, 2010
8:00-11:00pm ABC Sunday Movie of the Week “Casino Royale” (Network Television Premiere!)
Scoundrels is slated to have its season finale on Aug. 15 (ep #8), so no idea what ABC is doing on Aug. 22. The Gates has 13 episodes, so it will continue, if they want to.
tvcrazed 07-21-2010, 05:13 PM they'll prob double up the 22nd so they can put movie opposite EMMYS
Pavan 07-21-2010, 05:38 PM They did it!
Thursdays, effective Thursday, July 29, 2010 through Sept. 16
8:00pm Wipeout
tvcrazed 07-21-2010, 05:43 PM Yay!
Pavan 07-21-2010, 05:48 PM I just hope Shark Tanks gets scheduled. Fridays at 8 starting Aug. 20 would work.

I just saw the second part of this post, didn;t notice it before. You are correct, I totally forgot about Fri when I posted, which is also helping them tremendously. Right. They have 4 really good nights of numbers, so that's all I was hoping they continue. They have done a great job this Summer. I also hope that WWYD starts in October (after a few weeks of encores of new shows) and BOP gets held for a better weekday slot and Secret Millionaire gets saved for Sundays sometime during season. With WWYD on FRiday and their roster of alternative hits for 8p (WS, SN, JO, and ST, shoudl they renew the latter 2) they have a good Fri.
tvcrazed 07-21-2010, 05:58 PM I just hope Shark Tanks gets scheduled. Fridays at 8 starting Aug. 20 would work.
yeah that is perfect. Should Shaq manage to hold a really good amount of W/O, wouldnt mind seeing at least the one new ep scheduled Tues at 10p, but Fridays makes sense for those few weeks left til season starts.
Zedman2 07-21-2010, 07:04 PM Boston Med is a very good show. I would have aired that twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays). I'm sure they had hours of material that was not included which could easily have made for a second episode on a weekly basis.

I agree. I watch it religiously. All the Terrence Wrong docs are so wonderfully produced. Ratings aside (and honestly I cant believe this show doesnt do better), I love that ABC airs this every other Summer.

Great news to read that, after appearances on movie nights skedded by CBS, NBC, MyNetworkTV, ION and The CW, Mr. James Bond is coming back to 'The ABC Sunday Night Movie', its true home, and the skein that gave the franchise its highest ratings ever.
CASINO ROYALE was excellent, and it might very well give The Alphabet a juicy Sunday night Nielsen to help promote all those new fall series.
Epic move on ABC's part.
tvcrazed 07-22-2010, 12:08 PM Here a suggestion:
Aug 3 after Shaq premiere, part 1 of CASTLE Dana Delaney ep
Part 2 airs next night Aug 4th
I'm fine with CASTLE on Wed but I do believe on Tues with no other crime dramas as comp (unlike Wed) it would do better and Primnetime would do better on Wed too. But just like CBS is running THE GOOD WIFE twice a week for 3 weeks (and giving em a big lead on on Sun). I wouldnt have a problem with them running it Tues too, or like I said yesterday comedy reruns 10p Tues too for a month.
Pavan 07-22-2010, 04:58 PM I think ABC's last chance of airing burn-off stuff would be on Sept. 5. during Labor Day Sunday. After AFV at 7, final two Romantically Challenged can air 8-9pm, Better Off Ted from 9-10pm and the final episode of Eastwick at 10pm. I don't think ABC needs to air the other Eastwick episode since it was skipped. I doubt they would want to air a new episode The Gates on this holiday weekend. Hank and The Deep End have like no shot of airing their final episode(s).
I hope they do something on that night.

I dont seen them blowing off THE GATES for other shows that arent coming back. THE GATES isnt pulling a big number on a reg Sunday. I dont think they care about if it airs that Sunday. They prob want to finish all eps, so pulling it, is only delaying it. I dont see them airing a full night of failed shows on a Sun anyway, holiday weekend or not.
In all honesty I don't see them burning any of those off except BETTER OFF TED. if you go on ABC.com the only shows that you mention still listed in their shows section are BOT and surprisngly THE DEEP END. There is no logical reason they cant give up an hour to air their most critically acclaimed comedy besides MF. Their scheduling is strange because they were all set to air all of them before Feb and then they changed originals to reruns and then they never aired the final 2. Makes zero sense. I still hope they air them, I could see them airing on Fri night Labor day weekend. I'd be shocked if any of those other shows are gonna be aired.

10:00pm Primetime: What Would You Do?
[Primetime: Family Secrets is not airing on this night.]
tvcrazed 07-23-2010, 01:24 AM its funny, since they have 2 hours of WIPEOUT next week, im less concerned about Tues at 10 next week. Also I dont want them to overuse WWYD. Its doing well on Fri and AGT is tougher comp.
If anything Id be willing to bet that CASTLE after 2 hours of WIPEOUT on Tues and WWYD on Wed against 2 crime procedurals would bring big gains for both shows. I know that they cant move CASTLE next week anway since they have that Verizon promotion.
Pavan 07-23-2010, 06:57 PM WWYD is a repeat on Tuesday, but ABC will promote it a lot starting tonight.
John Quinones tweeted the other day that the new episodes are tentatively slated for Wednesdays starting in November (but that is heavily subject to change). Hmm...
tvcrazed 07-23-2010, 07:42 PM really, that's weird?
Really surprised their 8-10p on Fri is still scheduled as such, since they seem such good options for them during week. They seem more of a sure shot than some other stuff. Plus, Fridays are working now.
Maybe they'll announce changes at Press Tour

I don't know why ABC would mess with a good thing. It's doing great on Fridays in repeats, and this is summer. It did great back in the spring as well. If I was ABC, I'd have WWYD airing Fridays at 8pm to give Body of Proof probably the best lead-in possible.
If it were to air on Wednesdays, that means The Whole Truth would get the boot. Is it me, or does ABC have very little faith in this show? With Maura Tierney as a lead, you'd think ABC would be pumping it up a bit more.
tvcrazed 07-24-2010, 01:01 PM Looks like WWYD did great again and for a change 20.20 actually improved on it. Last night, unless I am mistaken was the first Medical Mystery they have done in quite some time. I think I said the other day, thats the only other Primetime franchise that gets buzz and numbers.

Superbowl 07-27-2010, 08:40 PM Steve McPherson resigning http://www.deadline.com/2010/07/changes-imminent-at-abc-entertainment/
Good bye and good riddance. I have never forgiven that guy for canceling 8 Simple Rules while renewing that bunch of garbage he renewed in 2005, and not coming up with a successful sitcom from 2005 all the way until Modern Family in 2010. He basically leaves ABC as the network in the worst shape of any network this side of NBC. ABC has had terrible development for years and has almost no hits thanks to him except for Modern Family and DWTS/The Bachelor.
Considering the ABC pilots are getting absolutely no buzz going into this season they are bound to have a barren slate of new shows once again. ABC needs to hire someone to deliver the next hits. We all know McPherson never did that.
Zedman2 07-27-2010, 08:57 PM Shakeup coming at ABC
Stephen McPherson poised to resign as Entertainment prexy
By CYNTHIA LITTLETON, MICHAEL SCHNEIDER
Word of a major exec shakeup at ABC is spreading amid reports that ABC Entertainment prexy Stephen McPherson is poised to resign.
Speculation is rampant about possible successors for McPherson, who oversees the Alphabet's entertainment programming and the ABC Studios operation.
On the programming side, a rising star at Disney has been ABC Family prexy Paul Lee, and some are eyeing him as a possible candidate for a programming role at ABC. But nothing could be immediately confirmed.
Another well-regarded programming exec in the Disney fold is Disney Channel Worldwide entertainment prexy Gary Marsh.
McPherson had been rumored to be on the Disney hot seat for months, although most expected that the conglom wouldn't make a change until at least the fall. Rumors started to spread of McPherson's exit on Tuesday afternoon, as the exec -- who had been on vacation -- was scheduled to return to the office on Monday. When he hadn't returned by Tuesday, speculation about his departure began to mount.
In recent months, some had speculated that former Lifetime CEO Andrea Wong, who's now working out of an office on the Disney lot, and exiting Showtime Entertainment prexy Bob Greenblatt might be recruited for the McPherson gig. But both execs weren't believed to be in line for the job as of Tuesday.
The shuffle now threatens to overshadow this week's TV Critics Assn. press tour, which kicks off Wednesday with CBS. ABC's press tour segment takes place on Sunday, Aug. 1 -- and the Alphabet's executive session will now likely be the most-attended one of the tour.
McPherson was most recently president of the ABC Entertainment Group, having expanded his domain in January 2009. As part of his expanded duties, he oversaw both ABC Entertainment programming and ABC Studios. He had overseen ABC Entertainment since 2004.

CONFIRMED: ABC Family's Paul Lee Taking Over As President Of ABC Entertainment Group
We've just confirmed that ABC Family's Paul Lee will take over as president of ABC Entertainment Group. Just as Steve McPherson was, Lee will take over both ABC Entertainment and ABC Studios. "Paul Lee has had incredible success for the last 6 years and has built the ABC Family brand from scratch," an insider praised.
Pavan 07-28-2010, 01:46 AM Good bye and good riddance. I have never forgiven that guy for canceling 8 Simple Rules while renewing that bunch of garbage he renewed in 2005, and not coming up with a successful sitcom from 2005 all the way until Modern Family in 2010. You're saying good riddance for someone losing their job? How nice. You're very vindictive and holding a grudge on something you had nothing to do with? The cast and crew of that series have totally moved on. And I love the show, too. But nothing in this business is fair or accurate (Nielsen). I would have brought back 8SR in a heartbeat, but it didn't happen--move on.
And ABC has not had "terrible development" for years, because each year they are the network with the most buzzed pilots (Pushing Daisies, FLASHFORWARD, etc), you just can't tell what shows will be big hits or not. If it were that easy, everyone would have hits. And this year while they might not have the buzz for their pilots, you can't say nothing will work (No Ordinary Family has a shot). Maybe buzz is something they don't need. Heck it has worked for CBS for most of their shows (don't remember any buzz for Big Bang's pilot?). Not saying McPherson did everything right, but he developed quality shows over the years (Samantha Who, Pushing Daisies, Dirty Sexy Money), some worked, some didn't unfortunately. All networks have new duds each year. To say ABC has no other hits besides Modern Family, Dancing, Bachelor makes no sense because they still have big hits that any other network would take in a heart beat like Desperate, Grey's, and upswinging Castle. He did his job because he put out the best pilots available I thought (with a few questionable non pick-ups like Secrets of a Small Town, Football Wives), but maybe it was time for a change as president of a network is not a long-term job historically.
Best of luck to Stephen McPherson and congrats to Paul Lee.
Official statement:
Statement on behalf of the Disney/ABC Television Group:
Steve McPherson today submitted his resignation as President, ABC Entertainment Group, and the Company accepted. Mr. McPherson said, "I want to thank the wonderful team of individuals who have worked with me throughout my time here and wish them nothing but the best.” A replacement for Mr. McPherson will be announced shortly.
Superbowl 07-28-2010, 07:58 AM How about all those people who lost their jobs on 8 Simple Rules, because that idiot canceled the show ? What still makes me angry to this day is not only did he move 8SR to the Friday death slot, and canceled it, but it was the shows he renewed instead of 8SR. You remember those shows like Jake In Progress, Rodney and Less Than Perfect that all had about 1-5 episode runs during that 2005-2006 season. ABC's development has terrible for years. Other than Modern Family they have nothing to show for the last several years. ABC is better off without that incompetent fool.
Here is what some of the media is saying about McPherson's failures :
Hollywood Reporter :
Although McPherson is credited for ordering last season's breakout comedy hit "Modern Family," which rival studio 20th Century Fox TV produced, he has had a modest track record during recent years for finding successful shows. ABC routinely develops more programs than any other major broadcaster but has had difficulty following up on such aging hits as "Grey's Anatomy," "Lost" and "Desperate Housewives" -- all of which were in development at Touchstone TV when McPherson was president.
Last season, ABC tied NBC for third place in primetime ratings, averaging a 2.7 in the adults 18-49 demographic.
"They haven't really done anything major since 'Housewives,' 'Lost' and 'Grey's,' and none of those shows generate a lot of money going into syndication," a rival executive said. "There's a performance failure the last few years. They've covered up a lot with 'Grey's' and 'Desperate Housewives' and 'Dancing With the Stars,' but it's a very hollow schedule at this point; there are no hits on the horizon. And while 'Modern Family' has done well, it's not like any of their other comedies that are close to being hits. They spend money like drunken sailors -- on talent, on development. For what they're spending, you'd expect bigger results."
From The Los Angeles Times :
McPherson, who played an instrumental role in ABC's turn-around in 2004 by shaping such hits as "Desperate Housewives," and later "Grey's Anatomy," was unable to produce a crop of new hits to pick up the slack as those popular but aging shows.
You're saying good riddance for someone losing their job? How nice. You're very vindictive and holding a grudge on something you had nothing to do with? Pavan 07-28-2010, 10:16 AM And if it were not for McPherson developing 8 Simple Rules at Touchstone there would be no show. You failed to mention that. I already said he was not perfect and made some moves I would not have done, but he was one of the few network execs who made bold moves and went with series that had quality instead of the regular cookie-cutter crime that you see on other networks. There has been no other shows on TV like Pushing Daisies, Eli Stone, etc. He took risks, obviously some worked, some didn't, some bad luck (writers' strike). To say he was a fool is idiotic. He had his job for 6 years, which is a lifetime for a network exec. It was this past TV season where he wasn't successful as he was in past seasons (yet they still beat NBC minus the Olympics), mainly because of declines in the second half of the season for its hits minus Dancing with the Stars. On the plus side, he did a good job with Comedy Wednesday and the patience on Castle. It was just last year ABC gave him the title of ABC Studios President as well. You don't give that to a fool.
tvcrazed 07-28-2010, 11:22 AM Nicely said Pavan. He also takes more chances creatively than any other broadcast net and a show like Pushing Daisies getting on the air is a prime example.

Well, apparently Anne Sweeney agrees with me. ABC is better off without McPherson. They now can find the next hits.
Pavan 07-28-2010, 01:08 PM And if any of these new series hits big this season, it is because of McPherson. That will prove buzz doesn't mean anything.
Superbowl 07-28-2010, 01:42 PM And if any of these new series hits big this season, it is because of McPherson. That will prove buzz doesn't mean anything.
I guess anything can happen, but if any of these new ABC shows hit it big next season than it will be the upsest of the century. The buzz certainly helped Modern Family and Glee become hits last year. The potential hits for next season are Hawaii 5-0 for CBS (maybe The Defenders). Lonestar and Raising Hope on FOX. Nikita on the CW. Maybe The Event on NBC.
I have not heard a single new ABC show generating huge interest or buzz.
Pavan 07-28-2010, 02:00 PM Since when does CBS rely on buzz? The Defenders has about the same buzz as The Whole Truth. Buzz doesn't always mean anything or shows like FLASHFORWARD, The Class, Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip, etc would still be on today.
ABC has two great pilots in No Ordinary Family and My Generation. The former will work for sure I think as it fits ABC's brand very well and is very mainstream. My Generation is a risk and a good one because it is a quality show. I think Better With You might be one of the best new sitcoms, right up there with Raising Hope, but ratings might not show that for Hope. Detroit 1-8-7, The Whole Truth are CBS style, so who knows they could work. Well maybe Detroit is a bit like NYPD Blue, but I was never into that. Lonestar is a quality show for Fox, but I don't see it being a huge hit. But I commend Fox for putting a quality show.

That is well put coming from an ABC person, such as yourself. The word around the web and the media is no buzz in the ABC pilots. No Ordinary Family gets some mixed reviews, but not much else. In fact, some of the media has speculated that McPherson was fired because some of the ABC/Disney hire ups are dissatisfied with his new shows for the fall. I agree that anything can happen, and buzz does not always make great ratings, but judging by ABC's track record the past few years I would not bet on any of these new shows becoming hits. Remember, Modern Family had great buzz and great critical acclaim coming into last season, and it was their only hit for the past few years. Sometimes buzz and critical acclaim does matter.
Pavan 07-28-2010, 09:11 PM I don't know what you're talking about, but No Ordinary Family is probably in the top 5 pilots this season. It's certainly better reviewed than some of the shows you mentioned as "buzz" worthy (like The Defenders, Raising Hope). ABC doesn't have the top pilot like they have the last few years. But that is OK.
TV.com user poll (thousands have voted) top Fall pilots, % of users who will watch: No Ordinary Family 82%, Undercovers 81%, Hawaii Five-0 81%, Blue Bloods 74%, The Event 72%. Lowest for fall: School Pride 19%, My Generation 40%, Raising Hope 42%, Law & Order: LA 46%, Outsources 51%.
http://www.tv.com/fall-preview/?tag=topslot;button; This is not an exact science, but it tells you what viewers want to try.
And hate to burst your bubble, but McPherson resigned because of a sexual harassment suit. So it had nothing to do with his job performance.
Superbowl 07-28-2010, 11:36 PM I hate to burst your bubble, but here is a scientific awareness poll as published by the Hollywood Reporter. Notice no ABC pilots.
Awareness tracking: ‘Hawaii,’ ‘LOLA’ lead fall

A new poll says NBC's new "Law & Order" spinoff and CBS' "Hawaii Five-0" have the highest awareness among new fall shows. No surprise there, right?
But in third place is NBC's "The Event" -- the highest-ranked show that isn't a spinoff or remake. Here's the data:
Top 10 - Awareness
32% Law & Order: Los Angeles
32% Hawaii Five-0
16% The Event
15% $#*! My Dad Says
14% Outsourced
14% Nikita
14% Blue Bloods
12% Raising Hope
11% Undercovers
11% The Defenders
11% Hellcats
11% Mike & Molly

Pavan 07-29-2010, 12:07 AM And awareness doesn't mean they will watch.
Mr. Television 07-29-2010, 12:19 AM It all depends if the show is any good or not. I let the critics point me in certain directions but I make my own mind if I continue watching. I remember Criminal Minds got awful reviews and I watched it and loved it and it became a big hit. I was hoping that No Ordinary Family would be given a better timeslot. It's going up against NCIS and Glee both of which I watch so I guess I can't watch it. Hopefully ABC moves it to a different time.
JulieSomoski 07-29-2010, 01:13 AM What an interesting conversation. lol. In my opinion, Steve McPherson may have taken some chances that paid off in his career, but those risks have diminished in recent years. While you can argue that Wednesday comedy block was a risk, that was hardly one - actually, it was more of a no-brainer. And, it's only been semi-successful up to now. Only one show can actually be called a hit. And this upcoming season was the nail in the coffin. He took absolutely no chances. ABC's fall schedule is terrible and lazy, IMO.
As for the pilots, let's face it - they're not very good. No Ordinary Family has had a lukewarm response, but a lot positive, and by far the most positive of all the pilots. Better with You seems like it'll get a good sampling with decent reviews, but will it last? Detroit 187 is being blasted for removing the documentary set-up, and now critics are liking it a lot less. The Whole Truth is being called generic, while My Generation is being completely shot down by nearly every critic out there.
Pavan 07-29-2010, 06:33 PM Primetime: Family Secrets has been pulled. Repeats of WWYD will air until Aug. 24 when Primetime: Crime returns.

8:00pm AFV (R, special time)

How do you think The Gates will be scheduled after Aug. 22 with only 4 episodes left and Aug. 29 is a James Bond movie opposite the Emmys. I am guessing two hour blocks on Sept. 5 and 12 from 9-11pm and DH/B&S season finales repeat on Sept. 19 leading into the new season.
robyrob 08-02-2010, 12:39 PM i am still pissed that ABC has recancelled Eastwick, I just don't give a crap about any of their new shows, or barely any of their current shows.

I feel the same sense of betrayal from ABC for their teasing the loyal viewers of 'Better Off Ted' skedding the two remaining unaired episodes that were ultimately pre-empted by game 7 of the 'NBA Playoffs'.
Perhaps Mr. Lee will show better respect for ABC viewers once he gets control of the schedulers. I'm not aware of his leaving any unaired episodes on the shelf during his tenure at ABC Family, although I still question his decisions to cancel 'Wildfire', 'Kyle XY' and 'The Middleman' before they had told all their stories.
Pavan 08-04-2010, 07:47 PM Looks like ABC is airing The Gates' last 2 episodes as a two-hour block on Sunday, Sept. 19:

tvcrazed 08-05-2010, 05:24 PM Pavan, maybe you could suggest to ABC to rerun the GREYS finale on Sep 16th BUT with the 18 minutes Shonda had to cut out of original airing (which will appear on DVD). ABC could really promote "the finale that had everyone talking all Summer, with 18 brand new, never seen minutes". They could run it 8-10:30, followed by rerun of Modern Family (finale ?) or one of the half hour fall preview specials.
They could have a 2 hour Rookie Blue finale the week before. I know Nightline Prime is only scheduled for 4 weeks so it wouldn't be scheduled the 16th anyway and they could always air the 4th hour anyplace.
Pavan 08-05-2010, 05:34 PM Good suggestion, tvcrazed, I will. I was just about to post that NightlinePrime is now only 4 weeks (Aug 19-Sept. 9) rather than 5.
tvcrazed 08-05-2010, 05:48 PM Thanks Pavan
Pavan 08-05-2010, 08:16 PM ABC said they will air the finale again, but not with the extra scenes because that is one of the draws for the DVD. It will likely be promoted duing the re-airing, too.
I bet the finale re-airs Sept. 16 from 9-11, with Rookie Blue's finale at 8.

thanks for checking
Nick@Nite 08-05-2010, 10:21 PM They're gonna show Nightline is primetime?

Rookie Blue is a GREAT show! Being Canadian and knowing most of the shows produced in Canada aren't of the greatest quality, I didn't have very high expectations for this show but it really surprised me and is quite good. I've watched all the episodes, including tonight's - which, in my opinion, was the best (most intriguing/suspenseful) yet.
Any word on when season 2 begins? Will it be around March or more like Summer 2011?
Pavan 08-06-2010, 12:12 AM I agree. Rookie Blue gets better and better by each week. It has become my favorite series of the summer on the networks. Season 2 will likely start next summer.
And Nightline in primetime is just a four week series (Thurs at 10, Aug. 19-Sept. 9), Nick@Nite. A series on the mind.

9:00-11:00pm Grey's Anatomy season 6 finale encore (R)
Pavan 08-18-2010, 02:14 PM Nice ratings for Shaq VS Rachel Ray/Tyson Gay last night. They only produced 5 episodes (like last season), so Tuesday, Sept. 7 is now a Wipeout repeat at 9pm:
Tuesday, September 7, 2010
9:00pm Wipeout: Family (R, 8/10)
Shaq VS season finale is Aug. 31 with Shaq VS Justin Bieber/Jimmy Kimmel
tvcrazed 08-23-2010, 09:45 AM The President will be speaking Aug 31st.
ABC should put Wipeout at 9 and Shaq at 10. I hope they dont just move it to Sep 7th, because a Wipeout rerun (which is currently scheduled) will definitely do better (even with Justin Beiber) and two weeks before the new season, they should try to keep their ratings as high as possible.
Pavan 08-23-2010, 10:15 AM I think they will just do that (Wipeout at 9 and Shaq VS at 10). Pacific time will have the regular times and 10pm PT won't count in the ratings since it won't air nationally.
ABC will likely not air Primetime: Crime anymore I think since it is already preempted on Sept. 7. And if it doesn't air on Aug. 31, then the only airing would be Sept. 14.
tvcrazed 08-23-2010, 11:17 AM Would love to see ABC find a spot for Modern Family next week, after exposure on Emmy Awards and red carpet. The only place I can see is to preempt Nightline Prime, which could be saved and air two eps back to back 10-11p
Pavan 08-24-2010, 02:44 PM Grey's Anatomy new season promos start this Thursday during all three shows!
tvcrazed 08-27-2010, 06:27 PM IMHO, 2 eps of Modern Family should air Thurs next week at 10p.
I also expect Primetime on Tues to drop below levels of What Would You Do. IMHO it's a poor fit after what they air 8-10p and they held off this long, I don't get why they need to air for 2 weeks to lower numbers.
tvcrazed 08-29-2010, 11:32 PM Thrilled for MF win, but as I predicted before, It's a shame they have NO eps scheduled this week, when people might check it out. I def say they should run eps instead of both newsmagazines Tues and Thurs this week OR Run 2 hours of eps from 8-10 Thurs with Rookie Blue at 10p. At the very least they should run a MF marathon before new season starts. Next Sun from 8-10p a possibility or next Wed from 8-11p. There are a lot of people who havent seen it yet (believe it or not). I honestly believe part of the reason LOST season 2 premiere got a 10.2 was due in part to its emmy win 3 nights before. yes it would have had a huge number either way, but that win didnt hurt convincing others to check it out.
what do you think Pavan?
tvcrazed 08-29-2010, 11:37 PM If you're inclinded to agree with me Pavan. feel free to suggest it to Jeff Bader
Pavan 08-29-2010, 11:46 PM I very much agree and will ask him and ABC. I think they will do something for sure, like you said maybe a marathon. Congrats to Modern Family for its 6 wins!
icecream 08-29-2010, 11:48 PM There are a lot of people who havent seen MF yet (believe it or not). There's also a lot of people like me who saw it once and didn't find it remotely funny. :D
Pavan 08-29-2010, 11:53 PM catsrule, if you just saw only the pilot, you are missing out. The pilot was great to me, but the show has a different feeling the rest of the way and it even gets better. It deserved the win. A nice clean comedy with a great heart. If you like The Middle, you'll like this.
Pavan 08-30-2010, 12:28 AM So, 20th Century Fox only gives ABC 3 plays per episode for Modern Family. And each episode has aired 3 times (or will like the final 2 episodes on Sept 8/15) except for Fizbo, Fears, and Travels with Scout have only aired twice (to my count). I hope they schedule those 3 somewhere at least.
icecream 08-30-2010, 12:47 AM I don't think it was the pilot I saw, it was a few weeks into the season. Ty Burrell's character was playing golf with his father-in-law.

The more I think about it, since Fizbo was one of their best eps, maybe ABC is saving the 3rd run for it (and the other 2) during the season. Frankly, I think It would be great if they ran Fizbo instead of a new one on Thanks eve. It would prob do as well as an orginal and they can conserve new eps. After all, this season they're gonna need 4 new ones during Feb as opposed to last year due to Olympics.
tvcrazed 09-01-2010, 11:54 AM As predicted Primetime last half had a 1.0 behind what WWYD normally gets. Honestly I really wish ABC wouldnt run those last 2 Nightlines or (Primetime the 14th) Thurs and Tues. There are so many things that would do better. ABC could run another Wiepout next week or comedies at 10. It's close to the new season. Even WWYD would do better which is why they pulled Primetime for most of the Summer. As the season gets closer they need to put their best foot forward. Those newsmagazines can always be used for 20/20 on Friday where they'll do as well or better. Don't get this thinking at all.
Pavan 09-01-2010, 12:03 PM Primetime: Crime last night was nothing like Primetime: Crime normally is. I think they just put a Mind Games themed one and put it in there. It was about secrets of interrogation (aka "inside the box"). They need to do the good stories like they have. Those do well.
tvcrazed 09-01-2010, 12:45 PM As I said earlier this Summer, nothing outisde of WWYD is doing well during the week on the newsmagazine front. All these stories can be saved for 20/20Fri. They don't do well and with less than 3 weeks left to new season, they can do better. It's not necessary to run any of these.
I'd rather they run a Castle or comedy reruns after Rookie Blue than Nightline which wont get more than a 1.
tvcrazed 09-01-2010, 12:56 PM Personally knowing how the sked last night was gonna be messed up, they would have been better off putting Wipeout encore on at 8, join in progress and then new one starts on time at 9 and Shaq at 10. but that's over.
They have 2 more weeks of Wipeout til June. I don't have a prob if they make them all Wipeout Tues from 8-11p or at least something that can take advantage of the tone of Wipeout at 10 i.e. comedies. Primetime:Crime after the sillyness means most ppl watching will turn at 10p. They are so not compatible.
Pavan 09-01-2010, 05:29 PM Just to clarify, Primetime: Crime got a 1.2 in the finals from 10:21-11:20. Had it been on at its normal time (in the E/C zones...and a better story), it could have been higher. Only down two tenths from WWYD previously week, which aired on time everywhere.
Shaq VS would not have aired at 10 last night. It was the Beiber episode and the kids/teen audience went up last night (as did 18-49 despite the lead-in down). Too bad ABC got screwed in the E/C with it airing at 9:21.
tvcrazed 09-01-2010, 05:52 PM I disagree. the last half of Primetime was a 1.0. I dont think it would have been higher and its still lower than a rerun of WWYD. Shaq aired 20 minutes in the 10p hour. Would have been fine at 10 and Wipeout would have done much better at 9p as would the whole night. Look the last time I wondered about Primetime was July and they removed it for the rest of that month and August, so clearly they think the same. A dark magazine out of lite Shaq makes no sense and they can do better. That's my point. There's no reason this has to air there and can be saved for 20/20 - win/win
Shaq at 9p wouldnt have done much better. It was gonna suddenly pull a 2.0. If Bieber is such a draw (he's not, especially on ABC) it should have been higher than a 1.8
tvcrazed 09-01-2010, 05:56 PM The one magazine show that was of merit was Boston Med. I am glad they ran that all the way thru despite its low numbers. The Primetime stories are not specific to any magazine (even you yourself said it was probably Mind Games) and they can still run the story on a more appropriate night on Fri and probably garner a bigger audience. ABC is very light Tues from 8-10 and then Primetime:Crime is a completely different audience.
Pavan 09-01-2010, 06:14 PM I am never a fan of the same type of show from 8-11pm. I still have never seen an 8-11pm line-up of the same type of shows work. Ever see 3 dramas work well on the same night lately? Even CBS Tuesday starts strong but drops each hour. This is why ABC should use reality Thursday at 8 instead of a drama, because there are already dramas from 9-11. ABC Sunday is perfect because it is nice and balanced with two reality and two dramas. I guess this is why ABC doesn't do an all-comedy night from 8-11 on Wednesday, because it is too much of the same.
Sorry, went on a tangent but I don't see a problem with Primetime: Crime airing. It will do similar to WWYD anyway, if the story is good. Next and FINAL airing is Sept. 14. P:C has gotten 2s before. If the story is good, you'll see that again (especially after Wipeout on 9/14).
I like Primetime: Crime, but last night was not a story they normally would use. Not sure what they were thinking there. I was bored and it was probably a leftover from Primetime Mind Games. Where did you see it got a 1.0 in the last half? It's last half was 10:50-11:20, not 10:30-11.
tvcrazed 09-01-2010, 06:34 PM I like Primetime: Crime, but last night was not a story they normally would use. Not sure what they were thinking there. I was bored. Where did you see it got a 1.0 in the last half? It's last half was 10:50-11:20, not 10:30-11.
10:30-11p was a 1.0
I dont think a drama at 10p is a problem after 4 sitcoms. but there needs to be audience flow (Look at the CBS sked for examples of this - The Defenders is lighter than CM but both male skewing) and Wipeout/Shaq into a heavy dark Newsmagazine are wildly divergent audiences. You just told me how Shaq got more teens and young adults than normal and how many do you think stuck around for P:C. Most of those people probably switched to AGT. That's my point, there needs to be some kind of flow to keep as much of the audience. (You already know my feelings on putting Wipeout, their big hit at 8and following it with lesser hits from 9-11p. Makes zero sense. NBC seems to get this correctly and AGT has plenty of kids watching that)
I guess I really don't understand why you feel the need to defend everything they do. Last time I made this point, you defended it, then they removed Primetime for 6 weeks. Obviously they felt the same way. A job of a net it to do the best they can. In this case these Primetime stories are a completely different audience, they dont rate as high as even WWYD reruns (which fits way better) and they can be put to better use on Fridays (where they will still air and probably do better). This way ABC can air a more compatible, possibly higher rated show here and if they are reruns of their other hit comedies they can potentially expose those shows to other people. It certainly wouldnt do worse than P:C.
I am sure you'll disagree with me again, so I'll just agree to disagree and not belabor this anymore.
Pavan 09-01-2010, 06:51 PM That is prelim numbers. The show started 10:21 and ran to 11:20. 1.2 was the final number. So where did it go up you think? I don't have 15 minute breakdowns.
And I didn't defend them. I blasted how boring it was last night. I get you don't like these Primetime series, and that is fine, but does Castle need another repeat on Thursday for a week (what good is it for a week and against The Mentalist)? You said they removed Primetime for 6 weeks, yet they brought it back. Mind Games and Family Secrets (minus the Michael Jackson themed ones) were never as strong as Crime. ABC News has its own audience. They don't need lead-ins. 10pm is hard to program. You can't have the same type of show at 10pm. It has always been dramas/newsmags at 10. At least it is something new with Primetime.
And remember I did agree with you that I would have aired Wipeout at 9 and Shaq at 10 because of the Obama address. But ABC didn't want to have the Beiber audience to wait another hour. School has started for these young kids. Had Obama spoke more than 30 minutes, I'm sure ABC would have done it anyway and have Shaq at 10.
tvcrazed 09-01-2010, 07:19 PM I don't dislike the newsmagazines on principle. I am sure some of them are interesting. Many are, that I have seen. They just don't do well for them and they certainly are very different from their other Tuesday fare. Boston Med got the same kind of numbers, you didn't see me saying get that off the air.
Yeah they removed them for 6 weeks and did much better with WWYD, so why closer to the new season bring it back.
Yes I remember you did agree with me. Still think they should have gone with Wipeout rerun at 8 either way. They knew from past, that the night was gonna get screwed.
I didn't mean it harshly when I said you defended them, Just didn't understand.
Whatever, the season starts in a couple of weeks, don't mean to belabor this point.
mtlguy 09-01-2010, 11:08 PM I really don't think the last few weeks of summer at 10pm is a big priority for ABC right now as they are focusing on the fall schedule. Even if they had comedy or whatever else, it would just be random programming, people wouldn't know about it and it would get either the same or possibly less than the newsmags are getting.
You sure are spending a lot of your time thinking and re-thinking what ABC should do. Stability is more sensible than panicking like you do every time a show a bad or below average rating. The summer season is done and there is no need to move everything around to try gaining .2 average.

My issues with them stem from their scheduling in general, but yes I realized this discussion went on way too long for a few hours that aren't ultimately that important (and I basically said as such in my last post). I made my initial comments about this before it aired, before I saw the ratings.I apologize if it irked you or anyone else.
mtlguy 09-02-2010, 11:19 AM It didn`t bother me. I know you are passionnate about wanting ABC to succeed and it frustrates you when do they something you consider a bad decision. I am a big ABC too and I can understand. No worries, just wanted to give my opinion that even tough we want success, this particular battle doesn't really matter much ;)

You're right. Thanks.
tvcrazed 09-02-2010, 02:35 PM Might be cool for ABC to run the Comedy Fall Preview special Wed at 8:30 - has top 5 Mod Fam Moments etc.
Pavan 09-07-2010, 07:39 PM Could be the last schedule update for 2009-10:
