I agree. Can you suggest that to your friends at ABC. Don't the affiliates also want them to pull HANK. Not to harp on this but in addtion to being one of the lowest rated shows, I don't see any support for it. Michael Ausiello at EW just put up a story on his favorite new shows. People are commenting on it. He doesn't like THE FORGOTTEN but it has its supporters in the comments. His other worst show is HANK. No one is disagreeing on that. I haven't seen any critics or viewers claiming they love it. In fact, many critics keep asking ABC to get rid of it, since the other 3 shows are far superior. What's the upside to airing it?

If they don't schedule THE POLAR EXPRESS on Nov 29th like you suggested originally, they can always do a new 2 hour EMHE from 8-10.

To keep Kelsey Grammer happy I guess. They won't air Polar Express on Thanksgiving Eve for sure.

In order to attract more new viewers to the program, SOAPnet will air a four episode marathon of “Cougar Town” on Saturday, November 14, 2009 from 5:00-7:00 PM ET/PT.
The “Cougar Town” marathon will include four previous episodes (Pilot, Into the Great Wide Open, Don’t Do Me Like That, I Won’t Back Down) previously broadcast on ABC earlier this season.

And as of now, ABC is airing new episodes on Thanksgiving Eve. Why? Last day of sweeps and the affiliates demand that they air new episodes that night. I hope they reconsider and air a new special or something instead! Maybe that Jennifer Hudson Special?

WTF, screw the affiliates. I agree, to keep them happy they should air a new special, it's a compromise.

This just in, the first Lost final season promo (0:15) is tentatively scheduled to premiere during the end of FLASHFORWARD (with Lost's Dominic Monaghan joining the cast) this Thursday (Oct. 29 -- first night of November sweeps). Promos for V (starring Lost's Elizabeth Mitchell) will heavily be featured in this hour as well.

Kelsey ain't stupid. The ratings are horrendous and there has not been a positive thing written about his show anywhere. Even NBC's lowest rated flops are getting better numbers. They are just delaying the inevitable and I just hope not at the expense of growth from the other comedies. I am sure he is not expecting a pickup. I can't imagine they would preempt it before sweeps and not during, when like you said, the affiliates need better numbers. I assume it will be pulled before sweeps. The truth is, I am less concerned about them showing originals on Thanksgiving eve, if they have a decent lead in at 8p. But if Hank, which is getting a 1.5 now, is still scheduled that's gonna be under a 1.

And you expect The Middle repeats to so any better? I understand the reasoning that some shows do better airing in block format, but I don't think airing repeats of The Middle at 8pm is anymore beneficial. ABC has 13 episodes of the show, and sweeps or not, they might as well air them

I agree. Half the time I forget there are new episodes on Thanksgiving Eve. They never learn. They should save the new episode for December when all they seem to air are repeats.

The Winter Olympics run from Friday, Feb. 12 to Sunday, Feb. 28. So when Lost takes a break, it will only be a two week break since it will likely air on a Tuesday or Wednesday this year. Only Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are nights when the Olympic games air three times in, and I doubt Lost is airing on any of those nights. I bet we will see a schedule similar to this for Lost's final season:

Wk of 1/11: Episodes 1 and 2

Pavan. I agree except one thing. American Idol most likely premieres 1/13 and if ABC moves LOST to Tuesday I don't see them premiering it against that. AI's 1st night is 2 hours. I understand why you schdeuled teh finale as week of MAy 10t as last year they ended the 2nd to last week of season so as not to compete with the AI finale. Since this year LOST's will be its final episode I could see them airing it on the last night of the season (even if LOST moves to Tuesday, the last night will probably be on Wed since DWTS will be 9-11p on Tues. Plus I could see the comedies season finales the week before so as not to go against AI finale). Also the last hour of the LOST finale will not have AI as it airs 8-10p. SO I could see them starting the week of 1/18 and finishing the last week of season. Lpke you said with the exception of the OLympics it would be rerun free all the way though.

Welcome tvmadman! I think the Lost premiere date will be announced very soon. I'm guessing in early-mid November. I am not sure what the first promo will say on Thursday, but I bet it will just say "returning in January" or something similar to that. Maybe the premiere date will be announced through promos/press releases the night V launches. That would be good cross-promotion.

tvcrazed, good point about Idol. I thought it was Jan. 19/20 (isn't sometimes the third week of Jan?), but if it is Jan. 12/13, then Lost should launch week of Jan. 18...then the finale would be week of May 17 indeed. That is going to be huge.

In 2006, 2007 and 2009 (no season of 24 in 2008), the 2-night premiere event of "24" and the 2-night premiere event of "American Idol" aired the same week from sunday to wednesday with only 2 shows for 8 time slot. Since "24" starts sunday 17 and monday 18, American Idol could start on tuesday 19.

And is FOX going to air new episodes of "24" against the Olympics ? It should be better to air 2 new episodes the last monday before the olympics and the fisrt monday after the olympics.

Moreover, I think FOX is stupid to put the series premiere of "Human Target" between the big NFL overrun and the season premiere of "24" on sunday 17th, since "Human Target" will have a post-Idol time slot. It could hurt "24" and prevent him from doing a big rating. Remember the 5th season premiere of "24": 17 million !

EDIT : Human Target wednesday time slot premiere is scheduled for Wednesday 20th, so American Idol will likely start the week before.

Scrubs is premiering Tues December 1st according to the Scrubs writers on Twitter. I think that most likely means Better off Ted as well. Can we expect a ABC midseason schedule announcement tomorrow with a LOST date!?

UPDATE: More news from Twitter, Scrubs double episodes on Dec 1 at 9 with Better off Ted starting Dec 8th at 9:30.

Episode 10 of GA airing Nov 19th takes place from Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years, so it is possible that is their last episode of 2009 which would follow the normal pattern of 10 eps first half, eliminating the one episode that usually airs in Dec because of the 2 hr premiere. This isnt great this year because their first ep back will be Jan 14th, so its a 2 month hiatus. I assume they will run 5 in a row? then until The Winter Olympics start or maybe just 4 with a week break in teh middle. Who knows?

I guess on Deccember 3rd they can run the 10th episode of FF followed by a 2 hour PP (ep 9 and 10). who knows?

Maybe December 10th after the 2 Scrubs episodes they can rerun the eps of MF and CT that ran on thanks eve at 10p and it would be an all comedy night. CBS should be in reruns that night, comedies could top the hour at 10p. Oh wait does the victoria Secrets special air that night?
.
Forgotten ep 9 and 10 can air Dec 8th and 15th.

Anyway, some schedule news:

ABC Thanksgiving Schedule
Thursday, November 26, 2009
8:00PM A CHARLIE BROWN THANKSGIVING/MAYFLOWER VOYAGERS (as previously announced)
9:00PM BEYONCE: I AM...YOURS (all-new)

10:00PM PAUL MCCARTNEY: GOOD EVENING NEW YORK CITY (all-new)
In the summer of 2009, Paul McCartney performed in Queens, NY where the Beatles performed 44 years ago. Paul McCartney performs both Beatles classics and some of his favorite songs. The program includes footage of the original Beatles concert at Shea. He does an interview talking about those early days and what it was like to return and sing many of those Beatle songs today.

Are you conceerned about the potential gap for GA if it really is 2 months?

Maybe they can do GA behind the scenes specials

Pavan

I don't know why they are airing the specials on Thanksgiving night, but they are not ABC specials like the Hudson one is going to be. These are acquisitions I believe. Beyonce's is a Las Vegas special out on DVD.

I hope they air Grey's Dec. 3. I haven't heard anything saying Nov. 19 is the last one for the fall.

FF will air its 10th ep on Dec 3rd. Assuming it doesn't come back until jan 14th and will be off for the olympics, there will only be 1 week it will be off through the whole season (with 25 eps). That week they can do a clip show recapping stuff. Since GREYS aired a 2 hour premiere and will most likely do a 2 hour finale, and has a 24 episode order, they will need to be off an additional 3 weeks and that is if their last episode of the Fall is Nov 19th. I think they should do 3 special GA clip shows to fill in those gaps - i.e. Most Romantic GREYS moments (as voted by fans), BEHIND THE SCENES with the cast, All time fan fave episode etc. Do you know if its the standard 24 eps for them and is PP still 22? Thanks

Pavan
10-29-2009, 02:58 PM
Not sure how many PP has this season. Maybe it will be 24 now like the normal ABC hits.

Beyonce: I Am......Yours

We can read this on The Hollywood Reporter (about Lost promo) :
What's interesting (arguably more interesting than this promo) is that a scarcity of footage is going to be part of the network's marketing plan moving forward, as not to spoil the big reveal of what happened after Juliet detonated the bomb.

One school of thought at the network is to not show any new footage -- anywhere -- before the premiere. That would be quite something and likely unprecedented.

What do you think of that ?

At this point "LOST" is not going to bring in new viewers and fans will not need to see new footage in promotion to make them watch the show. I don't think this is really a big deal. People will know when the show starts airing again and that's all that matters.

ABC may want to bring back viewers who watched the show during the first seasons. It could create more buzz for the premiere event.

That would be completely pointless. If new viewers were to tune in at this point, they would be completely lost with what is going on. The core 9-10 million viewers will watch this winter, and the series finale will probably pull in a solid 13-15 million viewers, just for the curiosity factor, but for the final season, it won't be pulling in any new viewers.

Meanwhile, is anyone else completely bored with Flash Forward? I was expecting so much more from this show, and it's been falling below expectations ever since the pilot. I'm sure ABC was expecting more out of it, too. So far, ratings have been far from what they should be. IMO, it's going to go the route of Commander in Chief and be cancelled by May.

ABC is now airing the Thanksgiving episode of Hank (titled "Hanksgiving") next week (Nov. 4) instead of Thanksgiving Eve. The episode that was slated for Nov. 4 ("Got It") will now air Nov. 18. I bet ABC goes with a half-hour version of A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving on Thanksgiving Eve (Nov. 25) now instead of Hank.

And as for FLASHFORWARD, not sure what you're watching Julie, but it has been great. Yes, sometimes it is slow, but this is just a set-up. It will pick-up soon.

Agree that they will pull it by Nov. 18...though I heard good things about the episode "Got It." So who knows. As for Charlie Brown, that will certainly help the comedies on Thanksgiving Eve...but that night is one of the lowest rated nights of the season, so if Charlie Brown can even get 7-8 million, that is great. Last year it got 11.1 million (one-hour version) on a Tuesday.

Some more sweep news:

All I'm saying is that it's been slow. Sure, it has its moments, like the last 5 minutes of the episode that aired 2 weeks ago, but it seems to have more bad moments than good. Agreed. Lost was amazing in its first season. Flash Forward has so far been a pale immitation.

Comparing Lost to FLASHFORWARD is not fair, especially since FLASHFORWARD has not even had a chance to air HALF of its first season yet. Be fair.

Comparing Lost to FLASHFORWARD is not fair, especially since FLASHFORWARD has not even had a chance to air HALF of its first season yet. Be fair.

Shark Tank was a good show. Hopefully ABC will be smart and keep it a summer series.

And why don't you think it's fair to compare Lost to FlashForward, when these 2 shows have been compared since May? We can at least compare the first 6 episodes of FlashForward to the first 6 episodes of Lost, and the first 6 episodes of Lost were far better, especially the pilot, even when FlashForward had a good one. And it still all comes down to ratings, where FlashForward isn't exactly exceeding. Point is, ABC was looking for their next Lost, and this isn't it.

Comparing Lost's ratings in 2004 to FF's in 2009 is not a good comparison to make. DVR, onDemand, abc.com/Hulu are all available now when they weren't in 2004. I don't think ABC was expecting 15-16 million a week like Lost was doing in season one. Honestly I was hoping for 10-11, but it is doing 9-10, which is decent and when the DVR/internet audience is added in, it is well over 12 million a week and jumps nicely in 18-49 as well. No new scripted show is going to do huge numbers in live numbers anymore (unless it is a procedural on CBS, Nielsen's darling).

A clarification on Shark Tank being ordered: they have 3 episodes still left to air and will use existing footage to create 2 more episodes, for a total of 5 episodes to air. They will air soon, I'm told. So I bet either December or January at maybe Tuesdays at 8 starting Dec. 8?

If these 5 do well, I think there will be a season two this summer.

If there is a Game 7 of the world series Thurs night (and it's not out of the realm of possibility now), I think ABC should not air a new FF this week (i would save new GA and PP as well, but I don't see them doing that. FF got hit ratings wise last week and that was against just game 2. There are plenty of men that watch this show that will be watching the world series. This week is suposedly a "game changer" and lot of people (critics, fans) are threatening to give up on this show. If this week is as pivitol an episode as it seems, they would lose whaveter momentum they can gain but airing it against game 7. They can always rerun V or last week's GA.

Rerunning V would actually be a very good idea, and I agree that ABC should hold off airing FlashForward this week. The ratings are already sinking, and ABC cant afford to lose more. It should be able to stay in the comfortable 9-10 million range and 3.0 demo, but if this week's episode is in fact a gamechanger, I don't see that happening.

Election cut in must have removed some then. WABC did a good job in not cutting in on V and DWTS (they only did a few times during commercials), but they cut in a lot during the forgotten. I think the beginning and end were preempted a bit. Maybe in between as well, but not sure since I didn't watch.

Here are additional airdates for Let's Dance, following its series premiere on Monday, Nov. 23 from 9:30pm-11pm:

9:00pm-10:00pm

WOW to V ratings last night - over 14 million viewers and a 5.0 demo would make it one of the best premieres of the season. Hopefully it can maintain this audience, because I thought it was heapings better than FlashForward. What a shame we only have 3 more episodes before hiatus.

V was awesome and those ratings were shocking and amazing. I can't believe a 5 demo! ABC should repeat it on Friday.

So when are we gonna find out the rest of the midseason schedule? Like Lost's timeslot...

I assume (and hope) ABC is rerrunning V on Friday at 8p. They are promoting on ABC.com that the episode with commentary will be on their site Sat.

I am guessing they will want to see a second week of V ratings before they release their midseason sked. Also maybe they want to wait to let other nets announce their plans first.

Pavan
11-05-2009, 02:48 AM
If all goes well, LOST's timeslot could be announced Friday. It was announced on the first Friday of November last year, I think. Might not happen now with V doing so well. It would be so great to have V and LOST together on one night come March. V at 8, LOST at 9 on Tuesdays would be ideal.

tvcrazed, I also think they will reair V this Friday at 8pm. I hope they do. We'll know tomorrow if they decide it.

And I think FLASHFORWARD will be indeed new on Dec. 3 leading into the two all-new episodes of Private Practice. Maybe we get more Bailey on PP that night? Remember ABC said there will be at least 3 cross-overs this season between GA/PP and we already saw one a few weeks ago.

tvcrazed
11-05-2009, 08:00 AM
I don't think they are gonna do another crossover this early again. I think there are 2 more planned. I imagine they will space them out. Maybe beginning of Feb and May, but maybe you're right.

I know I have said this before, but it concerns me that their #1 show is not gonna be in originals for 2 months. I can't recall that ever happening before during teh course of a season. Last year their last original GA was Dec 4th and they came back Jan 8th. Now it will be Nov 18th-Jan 14th. Plus CBS, NBC and Fox shows will have at least 2 weeks of originals in Dec. I knew they were gonna have a problem with the 2 hour premiere but I would have aired a 2 hour PP 10/22 when CBS was in reruns or run a GA behind the scenes special that night. Also the last FF of the season which is supposed to be a whopper won't have a new GA airing after it.

I am really surprised they are not showing V again tomorrow night (they would have announced it already, I think, if they were). Pavan

how is HANK not cancelled yet? a 1.3 and it gave the MIDDLE its lowest score, while the week before when HANK was prreempted THE MIDDLE had its highest numbers since the pilot. Every critic is raving about ABCs sitcoms from 8:30-10:00 and specifically asking the same thing about HANK. Now if HANK was getting ratings I could udnerstand but in addition to being critically reviled, it has gotten one of the worst ratinngs out of any show on broadcast TV and there is clear eveidence it is hurting the good show after it.

Maybe 2 hours leading into NY Rockin EVE, run nthe last 2 FF with commentary from the producers.

I'm sure, like everything else of its genre, V will not repeat well and FlashForward, at the rate it's going, will be gone come May. FF basically doing what Ugly Betty was in the timeslot which wasn't good to begin with.

In terms of scheduling, Pirates of the Caribbean At World's End is scheduled to air Monday Dec 28 and I wouldn't be surprised if the annual airing of the Sound of Music airs on Sunday Dec 27.

i Figured Sound of Music would be there, I would schedule that Sat.

A 3 month hiatus is a killer. running it end of Dec and again in Feb keeps it fresh, maybe with some added features. If the ratings hold up, I would imagine a 4 hour marathon on a low rated week would do better than Sound of MUsic which usually get a high 1.

I would defeintiely extra schedule reruns of the comedies, dont you think they should do that?

Pavan
11-09-2009, 12:33 AM
NBC is airing comedy marathons at the end of December though. See the NBC upfront thread.

I like the V idea on Sunday, Dec. 27. Hope they do it. But I'm sure they will re-air the four episodes of V (opposite the Winter Olympics) leading into the March premiere, that way they have V for 13 straight weeks and get even more new viewers for the 9 new ones. Sound of Music would be better on Saturday, Dec. 26.

As for FF, it is fine. It'll pick up in the ratings soon (only the last 2 weeks have been disappointing in ratings...still higher than Betty from last year). It is still heavily DVRed and viewed on abc.com/Hulu. So it does way better than Betty last year.

Although a fan of the show, I'm not as confident of its survival as you are. The show is trending downward at a point in time where it should be stablizing, especially now that we are in Standard Time (higher hut levels). The DVR numbers are only from the first three or four episodes, which would have been artificially high due to the promotion and the start of the new season. The change in showrunners is a sign of trouble and the recent storytelling isn't up to the quality of its first two episodes. ABC's core female demo is starting to watch Vampire Diaries, and Bones is about to overtake the show for second place in the timeslot. I don't think ABC execs were expecting this show to be third with a 2.6 demo mid-Nov sweeps.

so according to today's press bundle HANK will air on Thanks Eve- so 3 out of 4 weeks in Nov sweeps. but THE FORGOTTEN can only air twice. Don't understand this as the latter doesn't hurt any other shows. Also they ran Charlie brown twice haloween week, but on Thanks eve as a lead in to their comedies it won't air?

I also don't understand Why the interview with Sarah Palin won't air on Tues at 10 instead of Friday especially given the big ratings 20/20 got this past week.

Pavan
11-09-2009, 06:37 PM
It is a good ABC is getting viewers to big events on Friday's 20/20. Fridays if programmed well, can still draw. the forgotten can't be preempted each week. While it is good to have big events preempt stuff like the forgotten or Eastwick a few times, it's not good long-term for them in their future. ABC likes both of those shows and want them to work and preempting them multiple times won't work. Twice is enough for both.

Palin's interview is slated for Friday, Nov. 20...not this Friday. They should just leave it there. They already have Janet Jackson interview on Wed. Nov. 18.

As for Hank, there is no episode listed still for Nov. 25. So it doesn't mean it will air then. I still expect Charlie Brown to air that night.

11-09-2009, 06:50 PM
I agree with you, but as midseason approaches I'd be surprised if EASTWICK and THE FORGOTTEN are on the schedule. My suggestion was more to the fact that ABC is big into maximizing sweeps, evidenced by the fact that many of their big hits end their Fall runs in sweeps.

Kelsey Grammer is on Conan tonight and they tape a new ep tomorrow. Maybe they are waiting for Wednesday to make changes.

yankeesrj12
11-09-2009, 06:55 PM
Since ABC seems to want a crime drama badly, why not hold onto The Forgotten and watch FlashForwards ratings? If the ratings continue to fall, I'd renew The Forgotten over FlashForward. FlashForward has gotten TONS of promotion and seems to cost a lot. Meanwhile, ABC could have a relationship with Jerry and have a cheaper show.

Pavan
11-09-2009, 06:58 PM
I just don't think every special should be used to preempt the forgotten or Eastwick. the forgotten is already being preempted for Robin Roberts CMA special this Tuesday and again in two weeks for DWTS. So if the Palin interview aired Nov. 17, it wouldn't be on at all until Dec. 1.
Usually only DWTS ends during sweeps...Grey's usually goes until the first week of December.

Eastwick is being preempted this week for CMA Awards and the week after (Nov. 18) for Robin Roberts' Janet Jackson interview. So there is not many options for that Palin interview, so I think Friday, Nov. 20 is for the best.

I think they'll air Hank one more time on Nov. 18. Promos are planned this week during the CMA's. Plus that episode is suppsoed to be good. If it can't deliver, I'm sure it will be gone starting Nov. 25.

They should not be wasting promo inventory on HANK, even if they air it on the 18th. It's not gonna miraculously turn around. They already know they are not giving it a pickup. They should turn over promos to things more pressing like PRIVATE PRACTICE which the MENTALIST beat last week, or even BETTR OFF TED.

Private Practice, no matter how many promos, will only pick-up if there is a Grey's Anatomy crossover. Hank might have some life left in it, and I bet ABC would rather air an original episode even of Hank thank a repeat of something else during sweeps. If it doesn't pickup in the next episode, then ABC can just run it out and end it at 13.

Even if the original gets a 1.3 and the rerun gets a 2.0?

I completely, but respectfully disagree with you re:Private Practice. Up until 2weeks ago it was getting high 3's and there was only one week of a GREYS crossover. DVR it is gaining a lot which means people are watching it even when not following GREYS. It was the 4th biggest gainer in DVR in the most recent rankings. The fact is they are barely promoting it, in primetime, outside of the promo in the last stopset of GREYS. 2 weeks ago they had a very pivotal episode with Violet confronting her attacker and there were barely any promos.

No amount of promotion is gonna save HANK, let's be honest.

http://www.hitfix.com/articles/2009-11-9-magic-runs-out-for-eastwick

The magic has run out for ABC's "Eastwick."

Network sources confirm to HitFix that ABC will not be picking up a back-nine for "Eastwick," effectively canceling the first-year series.

The end of the road for "Eastwick" can hardly be considered a surprise. Despite airing out of ABC's highly successful "Modern Family"/"Cougar Town" comedy block, "Eastwick" has reliably squandered its solid lead-in.

In its most recent airing on Nov. 4, "Eastwick" averaged only 4.6 million viewers and a 1.6 rating in the 18-49 demo. "Eastwick" has been the only first-run network drama to occasionally lose to NBC's "The Jay Leno Show."

With "Eastwick" not getting its back-nine, that leaves two new Warner Brothers TV programs still in limbo at ABC. The Kelsey Grammer comedy "Hank" is considered unlikely to get a back-nine, while the Jerry Bruckheimer drama "The Forgotten" is believed to have a somewhat better shot of being ordered for additional episodes.

The Christian Slater procedural has been the stronger of the duo, both of which are produced by Warner Bros. and air at 10 p.m. "Eastwick" will finish production on 13 episodes and ABC plans to run them all.

In addition, ABC is yanking the planned upcoming debut of reality show "Let's Dance." The network recently announced that "Dance" would debut later this month and with host Kathy Griffin. The show was to feature celebrities re-creating famous dance routines. Sources say the network had difficulty casting the show, which is a common problem for networks when developing celebrity-driven reality fare.

Wow, and Let's Dance sounded very good too. Too bad, because with Kathy Griffin hosting, it could have been a very good December program. Find My Family just sounds last-minute and completely unoriginal. It's too bad they couldn't have just gotten Secret Millionaire ready for December.

I wonder what they'll air after the DWTS performance finale then. Will they go with a 90-minute premiere of Find My Family? Maybe even that and a special episode of one of the comedies?

Meanwhile, Eastwick not getting the back is not surprising at all. And, ABC is certaintly being patient with The Forgotten, but since it won't be getting a full season, it will definitely need to prove itself if its going to be airing without the DWTS lead-in. If not, it'll be 18 and done. Although, this makes a Dancing/Lost/V Tuesday night sound a lot more likely for March.

THR says Let's Dance is officially scrapped because of difficulty casting

I hate that FMF is only gonna get 2 weeks of promotion, because this always sounded like a classic ABC show, that could really be somthing, but it is being thrust in last minute. Hopefully it will be enough. It's too late now, but once again, its a shame DWTS was not scheduled to run til mid dec.

I agree - Kathy Griffin is hilarious. I'm watching her right now on Leno, lol. She could make for a fantastic contestant on DWTS, if she's up for it. If not, they should definitely save her for the future. Maybe even a guest spot or two on one of the comedies?

I think they offered her to be a contestant before on DWTS and she turned them down.

She is a draw as a host.

They should sign her to a deal. Also I hope ABC doesn't let the rights to this show expire, cause another net will pick it up. It's been a hit in the UK. They should try for Summer,

ABC sent out a memo saying Let's Dance will be rescheduled at a later date. So it is not completely dead. I am calling it delayed.

As far as Find My Family goes, it is perfect for ABC. It comes from the creator of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition and it is feel good that fits ABC's brand. Not sure how anyone think it is "unoriginal." What other show went out finding long lost relatives for people? ABC found a hit years ago with Extreme Makeover in December when no one was expecting it do big, so this could be next...

ABC drops in coverage scope
Since digital switchover, coverage is down 1%
By MICHAEL SCHNEIDER

ABC has a 1% problem.

Alphabet execs are trying to figure out why, according to Nielsen, their network can now be found in just 97% of U.S. TV households -- below CBS, NBC and even Fox.

All four major networks lost a bit of their nationwide coverage following the digital TV transition. Before the summer switchover, the nets' programs regularly cleared 99% of the country -- which pretty much reps everyone but a few really rural pockets of the country.

After the switchover, with a few TV owners opting not to convert to digital, that number dropped for everyone -- but while CBS, NBC and Fox eventually recovered to 98% coverage, ABC still hasn't. And no one seems to know why.

"It's bizarre," said ABC research chief Charles Kennedy. "Normally people don't get too excited about a 1% change... (and) we're not crying over spilled milk here, but there's a little more milk we could be lapping up. That's an extra 1% that is not being monetized by us."

Kennedy said he believed that 1% difference in coverage could mean an extra $15 million to $20 million in advertising revenue.

Adding to the complication is the strange circumstance in which Fox -- which has long relied on a slightly weaker band of affiliates -- has now surpassed ABC in coverage scope.

The coverage drop has nothing to do with losing affiliates; ABC still has the same 233 affiliates it had before the digital switchover.

Nielsen spokesman Gary Holmes said the ratings behemoth was "working with ABC to confirm their coverage area."

"To derive coverage areas we use a combination of affiliate lineups supplied by ABC, along with the receivability of the network within our sample," he said.

That's where the fluctuation might be occuring. Several local TV stations -- including a handful of prominent ABC-owned outlets -- were hit with complaints in June after switching to weaker digital signals.

ABC said it has corrected most of those problems with its stations. But given Nielsen's small sample size, if one or two homes reporting to Nielsen are still having problems tuning in their ABC station, it might be enough to throw off the network's coverage total.

Alphabet execs have also expressed frustration over screwy ratings fluctuations for some of its shows. "Cougar Town" and "FlashForward" were hit harder than NBC and CBS shows during the World Series -- and especially among women 35-49, a demo traditionally known for watching baseball. Nielsen is looking into that anomaly as well.

This reps the latest in an ongoing flurry of complaints the networks have leveled against Nielsen's tallies and processes. In 2003, broadcasters including ABC balked when the ratings service showed a sudden, massive viewership drop among men 18-34. (After those complaints, the young male viewership mysteriously returned to more normal levels).

In May, Fox Networks Group honcho Tony Vinciquerra vented over Nielsen's admissions that its TV ratings may be off my as much as 8%. Late this summer the major media congloms and advertisers created a consortium to push Nielsen for a more accurate and comprehensive ratings system.

Hank promos are removed for tomorrow's CMA Awards, looks like it won't air next week. Schedule hasn't been updated yet, though. There will be 30 second promos each for The Middle, Modern Family and Cougar Town. And also a nice :45 spot with all three. Also, there will be a nice 1 minute promo showcasing DWTS/V/Modern Family/Cougar Town/FLASHFORWARD.

I think the Wednesday at 10pm or even 8pm move for Ugly Betty would work. If Betty is at 8, then Lost will certainly take 10pm. But I would go with Betty Wed at 10 and Lost anywhere on Tuesdays like 9pm (it can move to 10pm when DWTS returns in March and the series finale can air on the last Wednesday of the season).

I am just guessing, although I could be wrong, that this could mean:
Tues til March
8 - SCRUBS/BOT
9 - LOST
10 - FORGOTTEN
great flow - very male skewing all night

Wednesdays in Jan and Feb additional new Scrubs could lead off Comedy Wed maybe trading off some weeks with MF reruns.

MarchTues
8p - V (maybe)
9p - LOST
10p - DWTS

Romantically Challenged added somewhere to comedy wed (maybe at 8:30 after MIDDLE)

SCRUBS/BOT should have their eps completed by early MARCH (esp if SCRUBS runs 4/5 times on wed)

I really don't think it's a good idea.

And I don't think ABC wants to air the series finale of "Lost" against the season finale of "American Idol" (even if it's only for the first hour). So the "Lost" finale could be on wednesday, but the week before.

But we don't know if the american idol results show will air at 8pm or 9pm.
(I guess it will be 8pm with Glee at 9pm)

ABC’s planned reality competition Let’s Dance won’t make its original Nov. 23 premiere, but the Kathy Griffin-hosted show is still in the works for next year, a production source says. The series — in which celebrities reenact famous dance numbers — could air as either a midseason replacement or as summer fare, the source tells EW. The original plans were scuttled when producers found their preferred celebrities’ holiday schedules too complicated to work around.

Moving Ugly Betty to Wednesdays at 10pm would do no better than Eastwick. It is just not a 10pm show at all. Moving it to 8pm would be good, though. It would regain back some of its old audience, and surely improve on the demo of Hank/The Middle. And, ABC can still say they have "Comedy Wednesdays."

But, where does that leave The Middle, and eventually Romantically Challenged? I could see RC airing after The Bachelor at 9:30, but I don't think ABC would do that. Perhaps moving to Tuesdays in place of Scrubs/BOT, which would then move to Fridays at 9pm? Or, does anyone else think there's a slight possibility that ABC would try Romantically Challenged/Cougar Town Wednesdays at 10pm? I doubt they'd take the risk, but it would make sense, considering the shows airing.

V is awesome again. What a show!

As for Betty, I'd prefer it airing Wednesday at 10 if it were moving at all. Cougar Town is a good lead-in for it. If Betty can even a do a 2.3-2.6 ABC will be pleased. I really doubt ABC will mess with Comedy Wednesday from 8-10.

if BETTY does a 2.3-2.6 they will do cartwheels. As much as I love Betty I don't see that happening, as great as that would be. I think a 2.0/2.1 would make them happy.

I thought V was great too. I already see people knocking it all over the net. I hope the numbers hold. If it gets at least a 4.1-4.5 that would be amazing.

'V' ratings fall from the sky

After last week's record-setting premiere, ABC's "V" was destined to drop in the ratings for episode two.

Tuesday night's drop, though not entirely surprising, was steeper than one would want.

The second episode was seen by 10.6 million viewers and drew a 3.7 preliminary rating among adults 18-49, down 29% from last week. That's the largest fall from a premiere we've seen for a scripted show this season.

The rating is still a successful number for a freshman drama. If "V" can remain anywhere near this neighborhood, the show will be fine.

The drop put "V" into second place at 8 p.m., with CBS' "NCIS" (20.2 million, 4.2) resuming control of the time period. The swing is similar to when ABC debuted "FlashForward" against CBS' time-period champion "Survivor" at 8 p.m. on Thursdays, momentarily upsetting the balance, before "Survivor" popped up again ("NCIS" and "Survivor" -- they weeble and they wobble but they don't fall down).

CBS won the night, with "NCIS," "NCIS: LA" (16.2 million, 3.7) and "Good Wife" (12.9 million, 2.7) all on par with last week.

After "V," second-place ABC aired "Dancing With the Stars" results show (15.5 million, 3.4), up 10% and featured Susan Boyle as a guest, and includes a minute of "V" overrun. At 10 p.m., a special, "In the Spotlight with Robin Roberts: All Access Nashville" (9.6 million, 2.4), improved 26% on last week's performance of "The Forgotten" in the slot.

NBC was close behind ABC with "Biggest Loser" (9.6 million, 3.7) perking up a bit this week. "The Jay Leno Show" (5.7 million, 1.9) was down a tenth, but continues to deliver its highest rating on Tuesdays despite increased competition from ABC this week.

The CW has been so intent on delivering contemporary girls-texting-each-other soaps, yet what's interesting this season is that it's the network's genre-driven shows -- new series "Vampire Diaries" and ultra-veteran "Smallville" -- that have been delivering the most surprising numbers. Perhaps next year, the CW should develop fewer fashionable socialites and more magic and mythology?

The CW's "90210" (2.2 million, 1.2) was up 20% and matched its season high ... yet "Melrose Place" (1.3 million, 0.7) matched its season low. Heather Locklear shows up on "Melrose" next week.

ABC cancels 'Hank'
By Nellie Andreeva

It’s the end of the road for “Hank.”

ABC has cancelled the freshman comedy starring Kelsey Grammer. The show is filming episode 10 and will stop production after wrapping that episode.

ABC, which has aired five half-hours of "Hank," has no immediate plans to run the remaining five segments.

For the next few weeks, the network will air a combination of comedy repeats and holiday specials in "Hank'"s Wednesday 8 p.m. time slot. (ABC already preempted the freshman comedy once for a Charlie Brawn Halloween special last month.)

“Hank” was the odd duck in ABC’s all-new two-hour Wednesday comedy block as it was the only traditional sitcom in a field of single-camera series. It was mostly bashed by critics and has underperformed in the ratings in its 8 p.m. slot, kicking off the two-hour comedy block.

ABC has already picked up its other three new comedies, “Modern Family,” “Cougar Town” and “The Middle,” for a full season.“Hank” joins another ABC freshman casualty, Wednesday drama “Eastwick,” which also was recently cancelled after 13 episodes.

I have suggested this lineup before with V moving to 9pm next fall. Basically, DWTS Results must move out of the Tues 9pm slot as it prevents any flow in scheduling. Meanwhile, these FlashForward ratings are becoming pathetic. Thursday's episode hit another season low, and was actually down year-to-year from Ugly Betty's numbers, which had 9.2 million and a 2.8 demo on the year ago evening. For being the most buzzed, most expensive new drama of the season, these ratings are bad. IMO, it'll be one and done.

Julie, I am suggesting that. I never said ABC is doing it. And why is she so popular? Because she is a good person! You have to root for people like her. She isn't trash like Octomom or the Gosselins. As for FLASHFORWARD, I hate when people so love the show after seeing the premiere ratings then start to hammer the show only because of falling ratings. Ugly Betty did NOT do 9.2 and 2.8 demo on 11/13/08. See below:
11/13/2008
8:00PM UGLY BETTY 5.7/9, 8.25, 2.5/7, 3.1/7
9:00PM GREY'S ANATOMY 9.8/15, 14.9, 5.7/13, 6.2/14
10:01PM LIFE ON MARS 5.3/9, 7.97, 2.6/7, 3.4/8

11/12/2009
8:00PM FLASHFORWARD 5.3/8, 8.28, 2.6/7, 3.2/8
9:00PM GREY'S ANATOMY 9.6/15, 14.87, 5.6/14, 6.0/14
10:01PM PRIVATE PRACTICE 6.7/11, 10.25, 3.9/11, 4.1/11

It may be close in live numbers, but FLASHFORWARD is much more viewed outside of live TV than Ugly Betty was last year.

Zedman, I won't know the answer to that until ABC actually books the LOST premiere date.

Okay, she isn't trash, granted, but to air her wedding? I'd say that's a tad too far, even if ABC is looking for December filler. Sadly, viewers would probably tune in, too.

The premiere of FlashForward was good, but it wasn't great, and it wasn't as good as I was hoping it to be. But after that, it's just gotten progressively worse. It's dragging, and I am clearly not the only viewer who has given up on it. So, the ratings are not the only reason I am hammering it. Actually, I am mainly hammering it because it is not very good. Being serialized, it isn't magically going to add a million+ new viewers week to week. It should have stabilized at the 9-10 million mark and a 3.0 demo at the lowest, but it doesn't even seem to have stopped at the 8 million mark. A 2.6 demo for this expensive drama is too low, and I'm sure far below expectations.

As for Ugly Betty, I was looking at the overnight ratings, which indicate 9.2 million/2.8 demo. Did it really drop that much in finals?

For being the most buzzed, most expensive new drama of the season, these ratings are bad. IMO, it'll be one and done.
As much as I like FlashForwad (I've only seen two episodes with the rest on my DVR) before the season started I thought it was a concept with only one season. How can you stretch a show three or four seasons when the date is April 2010? Sure you can show the after effects, but I'm guessing that wouldnt be too exciting.

Well, one would say the same thing about Lost back in 2004, but they managed to stress that 6 years. Still, Lost had double+ the number of viewers in its first season. There is no way they can stretch out FlashForward for more than a season. Seeing how it's going the way of Commander-in-Chief, it'll be one season and done.

ABC aired Trista Stutter's (Bachelorette 1 star) wedding in December 2003 and it did 17.1 million. That was 6 years ago and live viewing isn't high anymore, but I think Rycroft is a draw (and I think more liked than Trista) and the special would do well in today's live number standards (plus reality is better suited for live viewing). This isn't anything new to air a wedding on TV. And again, I am SUGGESTING it...it is not happening as far as I know, but I hope they do it.

As for FLASHFORWARD, nearly everyone loved the pilot. Not sure what you were watching Julie, lol. That first act was great TV. And the high expense was for the pilot. Subsequent episodes are no where near in high cost. Not sure why people would give up on it when the series has plans for multiple seasons and has a series ending.

And the last 2 episodes that just aired were fantastic. We are only 9 episodes into the 25 episode season, so there is plenty of time for viewers who are not caught up yet. During Christmas break I hope they catch up on their DVR's. It seems ever since the World Series started, the ratings went down a bit. Before that it was consistent. I know a few people who have the last 3 or so episodes on their DVR still due to ALCS/World Series watching.

Not sure why anyone is comparing Lost 2004 to FF 2009. Like I said before, live numbers were much higher back then. DVR, online, onDemand are taking away live numbers more and more each year for scripted serialized series especially.

The difference between Commander in Chief and FF: ABC likes the show and the direction it is going. ABC is not going to give up on it after just one season. And it is way too early to call it out of the picture for 2010-11 after just 9 episodes.

I would just like to jump in on this FLASHFORWARD discussion. I have watched every episode and I do agree that the show is not as good as I hoped but I am still enjoying it. The last two episodes were top notch TV as well as the 5th episodes.

I have also seen next week's episode which turns the show creatively in a different direction, focusing on more character centric backstory and focus on their flashforward similar to LOST structure with flashbacks this time with the flashes and the story, with this episode being about Bryce. The show does a great job in doing less stories, more focus, and great reveals all in one episode and if you tune into one episode you should tune into the next one.

I agree that FLASH FORWARD is getting treated worse than it deserves.
There is very much to like about this show.

I do think however there is a perception problem. This past Friday I saw 3 well respected televsion critics/writers say they are done with the show. The fact that BONES is now beating it, is concerning. I know live numbers don't tell the whole story but if you look even at Itunes most popular shows it is #8. VD is #1, GREYS is #4, V that aired 2 days before is #5, GLEE is #7.

I am really looking forward to this weeks ep, the promos look really good.
But I am sure ABC is concerned.

Here is what I think they need to do to change perception and to just make the show a little more impactful. They need another sharp co-showrunner to work alongside David Goyer, who has worked well on genre shows. Someone like Joss Whedon, who they will never get, but someone who can fine tune the show. Remeber when Greg Berlanti was brought in to help BROTHERS & SISTERS around ep 4. He clicked with Ken Olin and helped focus the show correctly. They never aired ep 2 and the preception changed in the press from being a troubled show to a good one. He would be a good choice here too, even though he doesnt do this kind of show, but he's a great storyteller. They just need someone to help give the show that added oomph and focus. Greg is busy directing a movie so I don't think he is avaiblale.

Even the critics that arent fans of V (and there are not many) are encourgaed by their choice of Scott Rosenbaum as new showrunner and have said they will definitely tune in to see his eps in March. I think ABC just needs a well respected showrunner, one who is a good storyteller to join David Goyer. IT would be great if they got a really big well respected star (someone like James Spader whis is currently unavailable, or someone like James Gandolfini, who they will never get, that would get people tuning in) to join cast too. Announce them both soon, use the December hiatus to fine tune and they can come back in Jan with great promos and I think that is all they need to get the show back on track.

Speaking of V, I thought it would be an AWFUL show, but I LOVED the pilot much more than the pilot of FlashForward. I really hope V can hold its current numbers and come back strong in March.

Castle is awesome, it's fast becoming my favorite show on television.

As for Flash Forward, I do think it's getting better, but the ratings are hard to spin. They are VERY disappointing. I'm shocked it has still not stabilized.

I will also say that Desperate Housewives has made a huge comeback this season after a very rough Season 5 for the most part. I went into this season not even sure I was going to watch live anymore, but I'm back in and loving it.

ABC cuts 'Romantically Challenged' order
Series star Alyssa Milano will guest on network's 'Castle'
By Nellie Andreeva

Updated: Nov 15, 2009, 11:00 PM ET

ABC has cut the order for midseason comedy "Romantically Challenged" from 13 to seven episodes. Meanwhile, series star Alyssa Milano has been recruited for extra duty on the network with a guest stint on the sophomore drama "Castle."

The order reduction for "Challenged" is for inventory reasons, an ABC rep said. The network has picked up three of its freshmen comedy series, "Modern Family," "Cougar Town" and "The Middle," for a full season and has two more comedies, "Scrubs" and "Better Off Ted," on deck for midseason.

"Challenged," from Warner Bros. TV and writer Ricky Blitt, centers on a thirtysomething man (Josh Lawson) who is torn between his new girlfriend (Milano) and his needy best friend (Kyle Bornheimer).

The pilot didn't make the cut in May but was picked up to series in August and underwent casting changes.

On "Castle," mystery novelist Richard Castle (Nathan Fillion) works with the NYPD; Milano will play his ex-love.

Interesting. Seems like they won't be launching it until March now. With an empty slot on Wednesdays now, though, what are they going to put there for January/February? I'm guessing Scrubs/Better Off Ted will stay on Tuesdays, and Ugly Betty will probably go to Wednesdays at 10pm. So, what will air at 8:00?

If that is the case then I would have scheduled the full hour of FIND MY FAMILY on Nov 23rd and run a MF rerun at 10:30. Instead of the MF rerun that wed I would have scheduled CB Thanksgiving. The full hour of FMF is quite compelling.

Then CASTLE could be new on Nov 30th. I think it's risky for FMF to air in between Xmas special and a rerun.

They do have the rights to the Polar Express. Maybe it is on a Saturday this year (Dec. 12 or 19) since it has been played the last 3 straight years or so. I'm not certain yet what movie is on Christmas night, as TBD movie is listed. Also, New Year's Eve movie is TBD, as well as Saturday movies. Should have info on all this sometime this week.

I think the Parade does decent, but I don't think it would do well at night.

Castle is a repeat on Nov. 30 maybe because the Boston area will preempt ABC programming that night for Monday Night Football between the Patriots and Saints. But then again Castle is all-new on Dec. 7 and ABC is preempted in the Green Bay area for the Packers-Ravens game, but that is no where near the big game of Pats-Saints.

With how badly FORGOTTEN did last night out of penultimate DWTS, if LOST isn't gonna be on Tuesdays and goes to Wed at 10p instead, Tuesdays in Jan and Feb are gonna be ugly for ABC ratingswise. FORGOTENs only chance at doing better is if a strong drama like LOST leads into it. Getting beaten by Leno last night is bad. If they put LOST on Tuesday they could have a strong anchor every night of the week. According to Ausiello that is not happening now and it's probably Wed at 10p. We'll see.

Lost on Wednesdays at 10pm would actually be a good idea. It'll add strength and buzz to the night, and possibly helping out the hour of Modern Family/Cougar Town airing before it. On the other hand, Tuesdays would be completely dead then. Tuesdays could also work. Since it would probably be airing at 9pm, it would only go head to head with Idol for a few weeks.

After episode 18, The Forgotten is dead. I can't see ABC keeping this around for another season. If Lost will go to Tuesdays at 9pm, ABC needs to put V at 10pm when it returns in March. It's continuing to shed viewers, and after a long hiatus, it'll need the help. Plus, it'll make for a great block.

V is victim to DVR/online like most scripted series these days. Live viewers are so hard to get these days. The series has been so good, so I doubt the viewers are not watching or "shedding" viewers. They are watching it other ways.

I think I said it before, but no new scripted series will ever do consistent 6.0 or more (or even a 5) in 18-49 ever again for live numbers.

V was great last night. Even a 3.1 at 8p these days is good especially against NCIS and TBL, Plus it's huge on Itunes and HUlU and I imagine will be when DVR is released. That show is a real hit.
Think about it. A 3.1 is higher than 3 of NBC's Thursday comedies. Higher than THE GOOD WIFE. Plus it's a heavily DVR'd show.

V is certaintly a fantastic show. I've heard talk that, like every other serialized show lately, V has been very slow-paced lately. I completely disagree - there's a new twist or turn it seems at every commercial break. This is by far the best new drama of the season.

IMO, going up against NCIS is hurting it the most. The show pulls in 20+ million viewers nowadays. No new show is going to do fantastic going up against it, but V is managing to do well. It seems to me like it would have been a much better idea to put DWTS at 8pm, with V at 9pm. Hopefully come March, we will see a lineup of DWTS/V/Lost, or DWTS/Lost/V on Tuesdays.

V was awesome last night, best episode yet(after what I felt was a much weaker 2nd episode vs. the pilot). I HATE that it's about to go on a 3-month hiatus. I just feel like it's going to kill any momentum it got. :(

I do think when it comes back in March it needs to move away from NCIS and Idol for sure. I'd really like to see Lost and V back-to-back on Tuesdays with DWTS either at 8 or 10. It'd fix ABC's huge problems they've had with the night. Move B&S to Wednesday at 10.

Do you think it's possible that ABC will launch Lost in March ?

Because we are late November, and there is still no air date for a January premiere. And if Lost starts in late January or early February, do you think it's a good idea to air 3 or 4 episode, then a hiatus for the Olympics, then new episodes starting March ?

Would'nt be better to air the final season without any interruption between March and May ? With that option, ABC could make a huge premiere event with a 2-night 4-hour premiere in March (like 24 in January) and/or a huge finale event with a 2-night 4-hour finale in May.

Pavan
11-19-2009, 05:20 PM
I don't think that is possible because there wouldn't be 16 weeks left. And I think ABC is better off airing it for 4 episodes and then 14 more. The Olympic break is only 2 weeks.

tvcrazed
11-19-2009, 05:29 PM
It's way too valuable to them to wait til March. All their scripted shows should take off those 2 weeks. I assume they will announce midseason sked between now and Thanksgiving which is next week (maybe late tomorrow).
I feel like they are waiting for FOX. Maybe I am wrong but I would assume they will want to run promos during DWTS finale.

Interesting to launch it in February, but not sure why. I'd think it would be more logical to premiere it in mid-January like they have before, air it up until the Winter Olympics, give it a 2 week break, then resume it after the Olympics. This way, it'll be airing against the Olympics.

Still, Tuesdays at 9pm were pretty much a given. The rest of the schedule falls into place now. Tuesdays at 10pm will be The Forgotten until March, when V and DWTS will air at either 8 or 10pm. UB will surely go to Wednesdays, but at 8 or 10? My guess is 8pm, where it will finish out its season until March, giving The Middle a break. The Middle will then return with Romantically Challenged in March. Inside the Box or Happy Town will probably go to Wednesdays at 10pm, although I'd personally like to see one air Sundays at 10pm, shifting B&S to Wednesdays at 10pm.

JulieSomoski

They would have to air new episodes against the Olympics I think. Plus, why premiere the show, have it air for 2 weeks, then put it on hiatus for 2 weeks? Like you said tvcrazed, there must be some reason why they chose the later premiere instead of the 2 week Olympic hiatus.

And after last night's numbers, the MF repeat/The Middle duo are actually the best thing to happen to the night. Everything on ABC was up last night, and The Middle hit a season high (since the premiere). They probably will just move it to Wednesdays at 10pm, especially if they have either Inside the Box/Happy Town ready to go for January.

11-19-2009, 05:52 PM
It seems like it is consecutive with no breaks now, so yeah it would air againts Olympics. I guess that is why they started later to not break it up. Thats cool. In this case airing againt Olympics doesnt bother me, because they are not taking breaks and because there are people that watch other things (like me) plus in this DVR age it doesnt matter.

With their other hits there will be breaks during season so it makes sense to not waste new eps during olympics.

ABC ANNOUNCES THE PREMIERE OF THE SIXTH AND FINAL SEASON OF "LOST," WITH A SPECIAL ALL-NIGHT EVENT ON TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 2
ABC announces the premiere of the sixth and final season of "Lost," with a special all-night event on Tuesday, February 2. A recap special will kick off the night from 8:00-9:00 p.m., ET, followed by the much anticipated two-hour premiere from 9:00-11:00 p.m.

The series will then air in its regular time period - Tuesday nights from 9:00-10:00 p.m., ET - beginning the following week, on February 9.

"Lost" stars Naveen Andrews as Sayid, Nestor Carbonell as Richard Alpert, Emilie de Ravin as Claire, Michael Emerson as Ben, Jeff Fahey as Frank Lapidus, Matthew Fox as Jack, Jorge Garcia as Hurley, Josh Holloway as Sawyer, Daniel Dae Kim as Jin, Yunjin Kim as Sun, Ken Leung as Miles, Evangeline Lilly as Kate, Terry O'Quinn as Locke and Zuleikha Robinson as Ilana.

"Lost" was created by Jeffrey Lieber and J.J. Abrams & Damon Lindelof. Abrams, Lindelof, Bryan Burk, Jack Bender, Edward Kitsis, Adam Horowitz, Jean Higgins and Carlton Cuse serve as executive producers. "Lost," which is filmed entirely on location in Hawaii and premiered on September 22, 2004, is from ABC Studios.

I would guess in January they will have to fill the Tuesday 8pm hour for 4 weeks with repeats or specials...or Shark Tank. Scrubs/Ted/fogotten from 9-11pm. Then in February the comedies slide to 8pm, with LOST and the forgotten from 9-11pm.
In March I think V will return and move to 10pm replacing the forgotten and Dancing results likely at 8.

Wednesdays at 10 is a question mark still, maybe Ugly Betty moves there in January...or Wife Swap. Or Wife Swap can air Fridays. They are not going to break-up the comedy block from 8-10, or you would have saw LOST there at 8. The 8pm half-hour will likely be repeats of MF and The Middle until March.

Wife Swap/Supernanny on Fridays is best. It's cheap, and both seem to work better when airing together. Ugly Betty's best option is Wednesdays at 10pm, and there's definitely still life in it. Is there any word on when any of the new dramas will premiere this season? My guess is one would go to Wednesdays at 10pm in March, although I wish ABC would take a risk and put somethiing like Happy Town after Desperate Housewives.

ABC seems to be really high on these UGLY BETTY Bahamas eps. I hate to see them scheduled on Friday in December, when they can easily go on wed in December, even if UB doesnt go there in Jan. They can easily move EASTWICK to Fridays and at this point it doesn't look like all 13 will air on Wed before the end of the year. I don't think EASTWICK will be there come Jan, so they might finish them off in the Summer like last year. I doubt they will be promoting EASTIWICK at all anymore, so in that case I would give BETTY the better slot at least for DEC.

Last night's FLASHFORWARD was fantastic. The one gripe I had about the series was no character development, and last night it had plenty of that. Not to compare it to LOST, but that was LOST-like in story telling. Excellent episode and Dec. 3 episode looks great as well. I hope people catch up during the holiday break who left when the ALCS/World Series started...because I hear ABC is very very very high on this series production for the rest of the season. You'll be seeing more great episodes like last night.

I agree, Last nights FF was the best since pilot. it seems like it's finding its groove. Next ep seems great too. But now they have to figure a way to get the public to know that. Not an easy task. The EW story is a nice start.

I hate to single people out, but the major gripe from critics is that Joseph Fiennes is not cutting it. I have to agree and the fact that he is the lead is a problem. He seems to be giving it his all, but something isn't clicking with him, maybe it's because he's having trouble with the accent, but somehting's missing.

It is only one episode in the Bahamas. That airs on Friday, Dec. 4. Next week's episode (Nov. 27) is not in the Bahamas. The Dec. 11 episode is a Christmas episode after they come back from the Bahamas.

If they are planning on moving Betty to Wednesdays at 10, I think they will do it very soon, like Dec. 2. They can have the last Friday one air on Nov. 27 as planned, then the Bahamas episode could be used to launch the Wednesday move on Dec. 2 at 10. They would have to move the Barbara Walters 10 Most Fascinating People of 2009 special (currently on Dec. 9 at 10) to Tuesday, Dec. 8 at 10, where the forgotten was a rerun anyway. The Betty Christmas episode would then air Dec. 9 at 10pm, where all of the ABC comedies are Christmas episodes on that night anyway. The two Eastwick episodes that are scheduled in December (Dec. 2 and 16) could air on Friday, Dec. 4 and 11 at 9.

OR...they could air Eastwick Saturdays at 10pm starting Dec. 12 for its final five episodes instead of Castle repeats. They can have Betty still move to Wednesdays at 10 on Dec., with encores on Fridays at 9 for those two episodes so fans know it has moved to Wednesdays.

1500 is not that much when you consider 15 million watched, plus he has performed before even on GMA. - he's not gonna do that again. Also, the fact that people have a reaction means they care, means they will tune in to see what he's gonna do tomorrow. I just witnessed him doing an interview when asked about that, he said he doesn't want to hurt anyone. I don't think he will do it again. even ABC called the complaints moderate.

It's a mistake to hand over a major get like that your competition. They could have promoted it as see his first performance since the AMA's plus he'll talk about it. Instead CBS will do that. If i didnt think he was majorly talented, i woudlnt care. I think he's a huge star.

New England at New Orleans
Boston: WCVB-5 (ABC)
Manchester, NH: WMUR-9 (ABC)
New Orleans: WDSU-6 (NBC)

Find My Family should be OK with Shrek the Halls as a lead-in. If it can do 8-10 million and a decent demo (2.5-3), it'll be fine. Shrek the Halls will likely go over 10 million and close to a 4 in the demo.

we say it every year and every year i dont get it. ABC comedies dipped to new lows last night with CT getting a 1.9. Why they couldnt use beyonce and Mcartney from 8-10 is beyond me. They could have had GA reruns tonight or even THE POLAR EXPRESS. Of course every other net held up better than ABC. I think Pavan you said the affiliates want fresh eps. It makes zero sense to me, since the specials probably wouldnt have done much worse and then they could have had two weeks of new shows in a row. Instead most of the comedies are reruns next week. ALso. there is no sense in leaving EASTWICK on this night. They are not promoting it, and I don't think it's helping CT. MF and CT had their best eps last night and were seen by far less people. NBC preempted L&O with TBL and to no surprise did quite well. Hell even a 2 hour best of DWTS season 9 would have done ok and helped save fresh eps for next week. Now people will probably spin that ABC comedies arent so hot. To me, and I know to you too Pavan, there is never an upside to this and they do it every year.

I love ABC. I think they are the best network in terms of taking chances, development, promotion and marketing. But the scheduling the last 2 nights is prime evidence of why I feel they dont schedule to their benefit.

The comedies should not have run this WED. They could easily have run the music specials on Wed night, after Charlie Brown. CB got a 2.0 on Thanksgiving, could have pulled a 2.5 on wed night. FOX movie did great which really proves a family movie could have done well that night. Instead of wasting THE POLAR EXPRESS on Sat night dec 12th, they could have run it on Thurs night followed by a GA rerun at 10p or some other special.

This way they could have had 2 consecutive weeks of new eps of Wed comedies. Instead fantastic episodes this week were seen by far less. There is a break next week and then they have one week of new eps til January. That to me is not maximizing your assets. The shows got lower ratings points this week and could again the 9th since people might assume they are done til Jan.

I also dont understand letting UB run tonight on low rated Thanksgiving weekend with zero promotion, while Eastwick is still getting burnt off in a more high profile slot.

isnt it strange how outside of Tom mentioning it very briefly on DWTS, this has had no promotion.

I hope ABC reruns this one night in primetime before the end of the year

AFV never gets promos. They will promote it tonight in primetime a few times during Supernanny/Betty and again tomorrow on Saturday Night Football.

LOST :30 promo launched today during College Football and will run again tomorrow during football.

As for the comedies, I agree with everything you said. But it would be weird to have Thanksgiving episodes NEXT week (Dec. 2). ABC realizes the Thanksgiving Eve problem but they have to keep the affiliates happy. I'm not worried on how well the Dec. 9 episodes will do. ABC will have ample amount of promotion for them and they are all Christmas episodes.
The Middle is new next week (Dec. 2).

ABC still hasn't confirmed if they are airing the Presidential Address on Tuesday. CBS, NBC and Fox have confirmed they will air it. If ABC does air it, it will just bump Charlie Brown Christmas in the 8pm half-hour for East/Central only.

Hi Pavan,

Have you heard if ABC is ordering more eps of their Wed comedies, or maybe even CASTLE?

It seems to me a no borainer to do at least 24 eps of the comedies, since they will only have to produce 23, since the pilot was filmed last Spring, unless it's a money issue.

Also, assuming DWTS launches Mar 8th, I assume the first results show would be March 16th. If THE FORGOTTEN last new ep is this week, that will give them enough to run every week (except FEB 2nd when LOST launches) starting Jan 5th finishing March 9th. Also V could launch March 16th and 9 eps will give them enough til the second to last week of season. Last week will be 2 hour DWTS and LOST.

Also I have heard from multiple places that SCRUBS has 13 eps, so they could run every week (except Feb 2nd) and finish Mar 2nd. BOT could finish Mar 9th with back to back eps.

I don't have any official details, but Castle, Modern Family and Cougar Town could have 24 episodes. It would make sense, especially since Castle will air all season in the 10pm Monday slot. They could have 24 for Private Practice as well. I don't think Ugly Betty will have its normal 24 this year.

And the March dates you mentioned sounds good to me.

As for this Adam Lambert stuff, frankly I don't care, but ABC will have him on Jimmy Kimmel on Dec. 17.

I think he's a major star.

By the way, since UB finished some story lines last night, I wonder if ABC will air the last 2 during the week, maybe they'll announce Monday. Anyone that missed the first 7 can just join with ep 8, since they finsihed Wilhemina and her daughter and daniel and the cult. Plus they have special guest star Shakira. They seem very high on Bahams ep, they sent it out for review, seems strange to leave EASTWICK on wed and let Betty that they are proud of languish on Friday

A new Castle is scheduled after The Bachelor on Jan. 4, so I would assume so.

I meant it's possible that it finished all 22 late March/early April. But I think it'd be better to run all season, especially with it growing. They would need 24 for that, though.

Maybe Tuesday night in the time zones that dont run the Pres address at 8p they could rerun this week's AFV.
