View Full Version : Why do most men carry their wallets in their back pocket??

It seems like most men carry their wallets in their back pockets, and this is something I've never understood. I would NEVER carry my wallet in my back pocket!!! You are so much more susceptible to getting it stolen when it's in your back pocket. There are many pick pocketers who are bold enough to steal wallets from a guys' back pocket, but I don't think there are many who would be bold enough to steal it from your front pocket for obvious reasons. To all the guys' who keep their wallets in their back pockets, I ask why?? It just seems more logical to keep it in your front pocket, because it's pretty unlikely that it'll get stolen when someone's looking you in the eye. This is something I've always been bewildered by, and if anyone can explain it to me, it would be appreciated. Thanks!!

I carry mine, in my left front pockey....i think its stupid to carry it in the back pocket- easier chance of somebody jacking you for it & stealing all of your identities, money etc. and your wallet itself. Sure if people wanted to and were crazy enough, they could attempt to steal your wallet from both pockets, but I prefer to carry it in my front pocket. My Dad always carries his in the back pocket of his jeans or pants. And Am I the only guy that actually keeps change in their wallet- instead of in their car or rolling around in their pants pockets??- lol.

And I agree with you Brad....it's so much more easier to get it taken from you, if you have it in your back pocket, instead of the front pocket like I do..

I agree with you both, but I have always carried my wallet in my back pocket. I am not to worried about getting ripped off because I am poor and a pick pocket wont get much from me. Then again my friends always tease me saying that because I am a big black man most people would be afraid of me LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL.

As a man, I couldn't give you an honest answer. I have always kept mine in my front, right pocket. No one would steal it without me seeing it first. I'm very paranoid. I'm always looking around me, being aware of my surroundings.

LOL - see - there's something to be said for stereotyping sometimes!!

I wouldn't have ANY idea since I'm a chick with a purse....but....
to me, wouldn't it be tough to sit down comfortably with a wallet in your front pocket? (especially a George Castanza special that's 5 inches thick?)

Also, wouldn't putting a wallet in the front pocket possible squish "Frank and The Boys"??

That being said, a big wallet in the front pocket of a big black man could really scare the bejeezus out of people!!! j/k

I'm a woman and I have wondered about that too. My uncle got pick pocketed years ago at a state fair and since then he carries his wallet in front pocket. I know a few guys who do the same.

I always keep mine in my front right pocket. I never understood why most keep it in the back pocket either. I'd be too worried of it falling out back there too. lol

I keep my wallet in my left back pocket (no I am not left-handed).
And always make sure it's there; but I would do that if I kept it in the front, too. I don't want to keep it in my left front pocket because it would be hard to reach my house and car keys.

I does fit kind of tight in the back so I would fall out easy.

Always had mine in the front left........just an old habit, while my keys and phone are in the front right.

My husband said it's too get stolen too, worn in the back. I remember Seinfeld did a funny episode on George's wallet, that was about six inches thick, lol.

I personally have no worries at all of it getting stolen in the back pocket, but I usually move it to the front when I have night classes. It gets quite uncomfortable sitting in a small desk for 3 hours with a wallet in the back pocket.

I'm used to the "old days" around here when we'd get going on double meanings, etc.. Good times!!! LOL

I'm trying to visualize this in my mind (wallet in front pocket, the guys getting squashed), and I'm just not seeing it. Guys' jeans have bigger and deeper pockets than ladies' jean pockets, so I bet they could comfortably fit their wallet AND phone in one pocket, if they really wanted to. lol

The wallet would have to be hella bulky for any squishage to happen. But I bet it would be damn handy for these, uh, unexpected moments... ;)

I use to keep it in the back pocket years ago, now I keep it in my front pocket for safety. I also heard by keeping the wallet in your back pocket it was bad for your back.

I didn't know guys' jeans had bigger front pockets than ours. Hmmmmm.....that suspiciously could lead to a lot of false advertising......

Ever notice that when you use your pocket so much, you end up with a permanent imprint? I see that guys that especially use the back pocket to carry their Skoal/smokeless tobacco cans.

Well, I don't know about that for 100% sure, but ya know. The size of the back pockets on every guy's jeans are pretty much uniform. Sometimes we ladies get back pockets, sometimes not at all. So I would imagine they get deeper front pockets too. These jeans makers gotta take the size of the guy's hands into consideration... :) It pisses me off when I find jeans for myself that barely has any depth in the front pockets.

And yeah, I have jeans with imprints too. From my phone and the clip from the handheld scanner holder (front pocket) and the boxcutter I used to use at my last job (back pocket).

I used to use a wallet, but only a money/credit card clip now. And, like George Costanza, had so much stuff in the wallet, ATM receipts, business cards, library card, Triple-AAA card--you name it, it was like carrying a 'filing cabinet in my a**'! as Jerry Seinfeld would say  . And seriously, guys, if you drive a car with a wallet in the back pocket you could eventually do permanent sciatic nerve damage, from your leg up your back. I take that on valid knowledge from a friend whose wife is a nurse and she told him it's true.

I always keep my wallet in my front left pocket and never in the back for all of the reasons everyone stated, and also, because it can be a literal pain in the a** if you sit down and forget its there.

Actually that reminds me of one time when we were out with my (ex) brother-in-law. We were sitting on a picnic bench and noticed he was sitting tilted to the left. Apparently it was because of the size of his wallet in his back pocket!!. I called him Costanza ever since that day.

And on the same topic - I love it when guys pull out their wallets and they're in a curved shape to fit the butt!

There was a time when it was in style for men to wear tight pants. Its seems if a guy wearing tight pants kept his wallet in his back pocket, a pick pocket would have a hard time getting the wallet out of the guys pants.

Just saying.
