USATVFAN 04-19-2009, 11:20 AM Name TV shows that becamce more popular after they went into syndication.
Reba-Got around 4 Million viewers a week but that was great for the WB(The network it aired on) it was there Top Rated Show, had it been NBC, ABS or CBS it would have been cancelled. Not alot of people knew she had a sitcom or notice or they ignored the show but when it reached syndication everybody fell in love with it and that the help DVD Sales.
The Fresh Prince
Jude The Obscure 04-19-2009, 01:02 PM The Brady Bunch--everyone got into it as a rerun staple and that turned it into the phenom it still is in pop culture.
Zoneboy 04-19-2009, 01:03 PM Star Trek (TOS)
browneyes106 04-19-2009, 01:14 PM I agree with the OP on Reba. One of my friends loved the show when it started airing on Lifetime. I kind of Family Guy is one of those shows my sister got into the show one time when she saw a rerun on TBS.
Jude The Obscure 04-19-2009, 01:19 PM I think George Lopez also fits this description--more people are discovering it now, then when it originally ran on ABC.

Ad I'm one of those of people-lol It's hard for me to watch shows in primetime because of Sports so I never got a chance to see it.
George Lopez-"I BE LIKE THIS"
LOL_LOL
JulieSomoski 04-19-2009, 01:48 PM WKRP - definitely got more popular in syndication, as it was never a break-out for CBS, with all the schedule shuffling it endured during the 4 years it aired.
Probably NewsRadio, too, for the same reasons as WKRP.
ryan423 04-19-2009, 02:48 PM The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air
George Lopez
Reba
That '70s Show
Dusty's Fan 04-19-2009, 03:50 PM The Brady Bunch--everyone got into it as a rerun staple and that turned it into the phenom it still is in pop culture.
Well stated, and I think to a certain extent you could say the same for another Sherwood Schwartz series, Gilligan's Island.
catlover79 04-19-2009, 06:25 PM Barney Miller seemed to become a major hit in syndication after it ended its network run in the spring of 1982.

Married With Children was popular during it's first run, at least to me. Because Fox was a young network at the time it aired, and wasn't full-fledged the ratings probably didn't show, compared to the big three, but it was popular. I remember at the time when it was hot, everyone talked about the show.

I remember my uncle became a fan when our WB channel started airing episodes back in 2004.

It was popular to my family during it's first run. Back when Fox started the area where I grew up here in New Mexico somehow managed to pick up Fox on antennas. But I remember in the town near us no one was able to get Fox because there were a lack of transmitters in the state at the time. There were several areas in New Mexico that didn't get Fox until the mid 90's. The show got popular with people here in '92 or 93 because the ABC affiliate started airing MWC nightly at 10:30.

Wait, you lived in New Mexico during the '90s?

NBC wasn't going to cancel it. It was 1994, and Will Smith was going to personally end it, then it would of eventually been canceled through Will leaving, but fan letters and people persuaded him to renew the show, and it continued on for 2 more years. That's why at the end of "A Philadelphia Story", it says- Fresh Prince of Philadelphia??
That would of been the worst ending in history lol, Solomon...
Wreckless 04-20-2009, 03:44 PM Futurama
I never got into it in it's initial run, and I'm still not a big fan, but it seems more popular nowadays...Before it was competing with Malcolm In The Middle & The Simpsons on FOX so it was hard to come out successful...

That doesn't right to me,m why would he want to end after 3 years? I have to put this on my research list

It was 4 years lol, it started in 1990 and they continued it, after contemplation in 1994/1995, when the 4th season ended & the 5th season started back up...
And he ended it to pursue and focus solely on his acting (movies) & music career, and family life...look it up, that's why he did it- to continue on and pursue further, those 2 other careers....thus TFP almost ending.

The Beverly Hillbillies and Happy Days were not more sucessful in syndication. They were both #1 Neilson rated shows for years during their original runs. I think MASH was up there too.

Plus Charlie's Angels was in the Top 5 its first two seasons, and still in the Top 15 in its third. The last two seasons when Kate Jackson left the show dropped out of the Top 30 altogether.

Gunsmoke was also ranked #1 for 4 straight years. Green Acres was also a top 20 show.

And that's because it was no cable or internet during the 1958-1961 era-LOL

I can't agree with you. I loved watching those shows. lol
factsoflife 04-21-2009, 08:29 PM What I Like About You fits this bill. I think that not too many people watched it when it was on the WB because either people didn't want to watch shows on the wb or they just didn't know about it, but since entering syndication it's become a pretty popular show. I would also say the same about The Steve Harvey show.

I never really got into What I Like About You until it went into syndication. I think it was a great show and Jennie has a lot of comedic talent.
steevo 04-22-2009, 12:16 AM The Odd Couple never pulled in great ratings when ABC originally aired it, but it became popular in syndication.
After it was canceled by Fox the first time, Family Guy became a hit when it aired on Adult Swim (the DVD sales helped, too). It was so much a hit that Fox even bought it back.
