TVFactFan 04-18-2009, 04:08 PM ESPN has let Steven a Smith go and decided not to renew his contract. ESPN wanted Smith to take a paycut but he didn't want to and now his last day will be May 1st.
Damm, I was a Steven A fan
Info from Newyork daily News
Brian Damage 04-18-2009, 09:00 PM Steven A. Smith was being used less and less. I can't say this is shocking news at all.

Not really I still saw him on "EPN First Take" on espn2 and Sports Reporters on Sunday Mornings.
Brian Damage 04-18-2009, 09:14 PM Is he still with the Philadelphia Inquirer?
TVFactFan 04-18-2009, 09:28 PM Is he still with the Philadelphia Inquirer?
No he quit working for them 3 years ago when he was demoted to working as a general assignment reporter instead of having a daily coulumn
GARFIELDKOOL 04-18-2009, 09:41 PM It's good news to me. I never liked him anyway.
Brian Damage 04-18-2009, 09:46 PM No he quit working for them 3 years ago when he was demoted to working as a general assignment reporter instead of having a daily coulumn
Wow, Smith has hit hard times. He no longer works for a news paper, his tv show got cancelled, he quit his radio show and now ESPN lets him walk.

I would love if he replaced Charles Barkley on TNT
Brian Damage 04-18-2009, 09:55 PM I doubt that, Charles Barkley is the king over at TNT.
TVFactFan 04-18-2009, 10:00 PM I doubt that, Charles Barkley is the king over at TNT.
Well then they can fire Kenny Smith-lol
Wreckless 04-18-2009, 10:00 PM This isn't breaking news. Nobody likes Steven A. Smith. I never liked this ignorant fool. He had to have the A. in the middle of his name, like he was somebody so important. I'm glad ESPN gave this guy the door, and shut it fast. I won't miss him at all. He was controversial and mouthy, with his sports remarks constantly and I'm glad Philadelphia Inquirer gave him the boot a long time ago, when it was needed. He's not a Philly guy, he's from New York anyway.

Well he will reappear you better believe it
GARFIELDKOOL 04-18-2009, 10:06 PM I would love if he replaced Charles Barkley on TNT
You are smoking dope. When Barkley speaks, something meaningful comes out of his mouth. When Steven A. Smith speaks, hot air comes out of his. Plus, if that change ever happened, it would be an outcry in the TNT studios.
Wreckless 04-18-2009, 10:07 PM Well he will reappear you better believe it
Yeah, some new york newspaper will give him a job probably, sooner or later but I don't respect the guy. I have choice words on what he thinks about Philly and Philly sports. If he was classy but I didn't like him, I would feel sorry for him losing his job, but I don't whatsoever so bye bye. All things must come to an end sometime.

Barkley stuuters too much and slows the show down when trying to make a point
GARFIELDKOOL 04-18-2009, 10:13 PM Barkley stuuters too much and slows the show down when trying to make a point
So?! No one can replace Barkley in the studio.

You hit the nail on the head my friend. How are you though?
This has been one of the WEIRDEST days in sports I can remember in a long long long time.
But no doubt, Steven A. Smith is no professional.
Wreckless 04-18-2009, 10:16 PM So?! No one can replace Barkley in the studio.
I agree. Plus Barkley is a tell it like it is kind of guy, but on the other side, respects his coworkers and the players of the league. He knows he can put himself in their situation when he used to be a player as well, and doesn't make rude or inappropriate comments, to certain dismayys, like Smith does.

I'm cool and yourself? I don't know where Steven A$$ hole Smith came from, but I hope he goes back now that he's off TV.
Brian Damage 04-18-2009, 10:17 PM Steven A Smith must be a millionare to keep turning down these contracts.

One thing I notice about Steven A, is that he always jumps on the bandwagon of whosever winning in the NBA and the NFL.

What about SAS being the 4th man?
Steve, Ernie, Kenny, and Charles?
Wreckless 04-18-2009, 10:20 PM One thing I notice about Steven A, is that he always jumps on the bandwagon of whosever winning in the NBA and the NFL.
I noticed that too. Remind you of anybody we know on SO? lol.
Wreckless 04-18-2009, 10:22 PM What about SAS being the 4th man?
Steve, Ernie, Kenny, and Charles?
God I hope not.
I can honestly see him annoying everybody on that panel. Those 3 guys are funny, have great commentary and are light with their jokes and comments. Maybe sometimes Barkley will say something strong minded, but Smith would go too far; I can see and picture it now.
Wreckless 04-18-2009, 10:23 PM I'm cool and yourself? I don't know where Steven A$$ hole Smith came from, but I hope he goes back now that he's off TV.
Yeah, and QUITE FRANKLY I hope he's not heard from for awhile lol..

i was surprised that they let him go though...well not surprised that somebody wold drop him, but it caught my attention I'll say...

Angelo is going to KILL the Phillies if they get swept during a Harry K tribute Weekend. Who was picthing tonight?
GARFIELDKOOL 04-18-2009, 10:28 PM I noticed that too. Remind you of anybody we know on SO? lol.
Yeah, you got the first 2 letters right.

I root for the UNEXPECTED UNDERDOG. Like I would love to see the Pistons beat Cleveland but it ain't happening

It wasn't the starter that did bad tonight, it was the bullpen once again. Myers pitched 6 innings, but only gave up 3 ER. I'm not mad they lost. I would of liked a win but I'm more emotional right now then anything. Solomon, I have to ask, even though this is a Steven A. Smith thread...did you see the ending ceremony to the Kalas open casket? They played the saddest music, and players lifted his casket into a truck to take him out of the ballpark....i'm sorry but I never cried so hard in my life, I wonder if you caught it by any chance....i was a wreck, no pun intended

Yeah if they still had Chauncey Billups, they would definitely have a chance at it....no doubt, minus the matchups

I would love for the Jazz to beat the Lakers, but I KNOW that ain't happening.
I hate the Jazz, but I like them better than LA, so that should tell you how I feel about them.

Too much for a sporting event. I can see how that would break someone up

Hopefully the Rockets can get out the First round WITHOUT tract mcgrady
Wreckless 04-18-2009, 10:40 PM Too much for a sporting event. I can see how that would break someone up
Yeah man it's so tough....plus they had to play a game AFTER all of this....damn
the game wasn't right after, so they couldn't channel their emotions through the game and playing....ya know? it was like watching somebody die, then having to commit to something....it's totally hard.
GARFIELDKOOL 04-18-2009, 10:44 PM Hopefully the Rockets can get out the First round WITHOUT tract mcgrady
I fell out of favor with T-Mac. I use to like him, but he's letting his team down with all these damn injuries. I know it ain't his fault, but one has to question his conditioning. When healthy, you can mention him in the same sentence as Kobe and Lebron. He lead the league in scoring before. Sad to say, he will never be that explosive player as he was in Toronto and Orlando. For one, he put on too much weight now. But yeah, the Rockets need to get out of the 1st round without T-Mac, because he's never been out of it. I am sure the Rockets will be looking to unload him next year.

The Spurs need to get rid of Drew Gooden and Kurt Thomas. Can't believe they lost that game tonight.
